[Capt. Judith Eastman(-Williams) - Commanding Officer's Quarters]Judy did, in fact, toss the dogs some treats, which they took. "They're so hopeful because I'm so soft," she quipped. She then took off her apron and finally sat down. What Devra said next was a lot more serious, and very reassuring indeed to hear. "That means... a lot, truly. In this line of work, trust is everything. I took the job, as Captain, because I had the trust of the crew, especially people like Jovireh. A lot of people, especially inside the fleet, think the superior-subordinate relationship is about power, but it's not - it's a matter of confidence and trust, and it's only through their faith in me that I can do this job."This was a core article of faith for Judy. Her effectiveness stemmed from the crew knowing that she was in their corner, and that she cared. She began to tuck into her meal.

[Devra Kul - Front Ear - CO's Quarters]Her smile brightened even more as she felt the other woman's spirits lift slightly, satisfied with the progress. She took a sip of wine, also satisfied with her selection there. "Jovireh's trust has always been difficult to earn, even before losing her father. That only got worse the more she went through." Another sip as she contemplated how to phrase what she wanted to say next. "You earned not only her trust, but also her respect, in a surprisingly short amount of time." Of course, it had made perfect sense as soon as she'd actually met the Captain her daughter spoke so highly of. "Now, she'll never admit this of course... But I think her biggest fear has started shifting away from being kicked out of the Fleet... To disappointing you." One might expect her to be envious of the relationship her daughter had started forming with the other woman, considering their relationship as mother and daughter had never been the best. However, she saw the value of what they had, and appreciated Judy's willingness to fill the needed role of mentor in Jovireh's life. It seemed the least she could do to provide a listening ear and 'outsider perspective' when Judy needed it. Devra took a bite of her omelet, and nodded approvingly. "This is absolutely wonderful!"

[Capt. Judith Eastman(-Williams) - Commanding Officer's Quarters]Judy took a moment, over a long sip of wine, to think about what she could say. Devra seemed wholly approving, even proud, of the relationship Jovireh had found with Judy herself, and that state of affairs was surely one to cherish. "Your daughter, in my opinion, is a woman of unusual potential, truly, but she needs the right touch to bring out the best in her. I'm glad that I managed to connect with her, because she is extraordinary."Part of the job, as Judy saw it, wasn't to find the ones that could thrive in any situation, but the ones who needed the right kind of support to thrive: Jovireh was one, Mabel was another. As for the omelet... "You know, I think we can improve it a little further," she announced, practically jumping (gently, of course, at her age) out of her chair for another jaunt to the fridge. She came back, a moment later, with a block of roquefort and a knife. "Blue cheese is... controversial, as human food goes, but I think this is just the right environment for it," she explained, placing a small slice of cheese on a piece of her omelet.

[Devra Kul - Front Ear - CO's Quarters]Devra smiled and nodded as she took another bite, understanding exactly what Judy meant. "It has certainly been refreshing to see her finally thrive. Her growth here has been obvious even from across the Quadrant." Like any mother, all she truly wanted was for her daughter to be happy and live a fulfilling life. While she had plenty of her own ideas about what that could entail, she had learned with time how important it was to let Jovireh decide for herself what made her happy and fulfilled. As Judy brought over another type of cheese to add to the omelets, Devra leaned back and took another sip of wine. "Sometimes the best things are controversial, especially when it comes to food," she replied with a small grin.

[Capt. Judith Eastman(-Williams) - Commanding Officer's Quarters]"You bet," Judy agreed. She sliced some more blue cheese, for herself and Devra to each take as much or as little as they liked. She downed the rest of her wine, though she felt she didn't need it quite as much as she had even two minutes ago. "We really should meet more often. At the very least, I ought to introduce you to my daughter," she suggested. Judy took equal pride in all four kids, but Anna was the one who dined at this very table, and often did math homework on it too.
