Captain's Log
The Mac is currently going through light, scheduled maintenance on Arkaria. While the crew are free to stay there, most are staying in planetside hotels, including an elegant ski resort called The Lodge, which has a rather convenient discount for active-duty fleeters.
The reason we're all planetside, other than skiing, is the trial of the, well, not the trial of the century, but at least the trial of the year. We took Gul Guillaume Du Toollamé into custody only a month ago, for murdering Dr. Veho Murra on Kerelia, and now he is to stand trial for his crime. Some of us - myself included - were part of that investigation, and are therefore involved in depositions and other legal processes.
For others, this story is just interesting, and I can see why. Since we took Du Toollamé into custody, a holorecording emerged of his brawl with the Bajoran Ha'mara celebrants at our colony, and since he is a candidate for the Detapa Council, that recording came to feature in their electoral campaign. Specifically, it appeared in a campaign ad of his party - the reform-minded and normally quite pro-Federation Radical Party - which by all accounts helped make Gul Du Toollamé, into Councillor-Elect Du Toollamé. I'd frankly be quite happy with the new government of which he is a part, if not for his record of murder; that does tend to cast things in a rather different light.
For now, after our beach vacation on Kerelia just a few weeks ago, and as I wait to give my deposition, Max and I are enjoying the snow. We're too old for downhill skiing, but snowshoeing is acceptable for members of our age group.
[Capt. Judith Eastman(-Williams), PhD & Max Williams - Restaurant, The Lodge, Arkaria]In this early morning hour, Judy and Max took themselves out to breakfast, sharing a lovely plate of green eggs - a local delicacy - and some kind of ham variant made of a local bird[fn]On Arkaria, pigs fly[/fn]. It was delicious, and therefore such a shame to be interrupted. =A= "Arkarian Central Detention Center, is this Captain Eastman?" =A= a nervous voice came over the comm. =A= "This is she; what's the matter?" =A= the Captain answered. =A= "Ma'am, Du Toollamé escaped from our custody. We could use some help investigating."=A= =A= "I'll get you some help. Eastman out." =A= "I'm so sorry, honey.""I suppose two vacations was too much to ask," Max lamented. "I'll make it up to you.""I know you will; you have your ways."What was a bit of galactic intrigue to derail them? =A= "Eastman to all Mac personnel. I need some volunteers to help the locals with a sensitive investigation. Meet me in my cabin in 30 minutes." =A= 30 minutes later[Capt. Judith Eastman(-Williams), PhD - Cabin 19, The Lodge, Arkaria]Max had gotten out of the way, and Judy sat on an armchair in the rented living room. She was, suitably, in her duty uniform, armed with a PADD. She was ready to present the info made available to her. Meanwhile[Arkarian Central Detention Center]At the awkwardly-translated central detention center, local officials struggled to keep the press at bay. Somehow, word had gotten out that they had lost a murderer-politician.

[ LT Joshua Niles - Suite 237, The Lodge, Arkaria ]Normally, a ship's company was never entirely dismissed when a ship went into yard hands, unless it was going to be a lengthy, major refit. But in this case, it was simply scheduled and preventative maintenance, including a few things that had their service lives drastically shortened by by doing something as borderline insane staring down the full wrath of a star and somehow not getting incinerated in the process. And for one Lieutenant Niles who was certainly not exempt the vagaries of having to stand anchor watches, it meant that his time ashore would be less than total. In fact, he had just finished a duty rotation and gotten himself some accommodations dirtside to enjoy, well, anything other than the confines of a ship that was being partially torn apart by the yard dogs. And truth be told, he needed the shore leave... even though he knew he was expected to testify in the near future, which also meant that going down-well also meant he had to have his uniform and all of his notes and reports from Murra's murder. Which, truth be told, left him with mixed feelings: no matter whose murder it was, if it happened under Starfleet's watch it needed to be dealt with effectively, swiftly, and impartially. But a Cardassian war criminal getting crossed off certainly didn't upset him at all. And there he had been, enjoying the local equivalent of a breakfast skillet and some excellent locally-grown Earth coffee when his commbadge, constant companion that it was, chirped. The Captain, asking for volunteers. Of course, that meant that whoever arrived, or would not arrive, would be judged accordingly. And he had the feeling he was on paper-thin ice at best, and that refusing to show up would reflect rather poorly upon him. "Niles to Captain Eastman, acknowledged."He wasn't quite sure what he had been planning for the day yet; it had been years since he'd gone skiing, might have been fun to do it again; or go skating, that had been a while too. But now, things certainly did change. So, he scarfed down his meal as quickly as he could, and one quick shower and a trim of his beard later, he was in his duty uniform, complete with overcoat and overshoes, with PADD in hand, and out the door and off to the Captain's cabin.

[Lt. Cmdr Pierce Taggert / PO1 Jovireh Velal - Arkaria - Camping Grounds][/color] Lt. Commander TaggertWhile Jovireh was certainly curious about who the new Head of Security was, she was even more curious as to why he had asked her to meet him in the campgrounds outside the lodge. Thankfully, after her introduction to snow on Kerelia a few months prior, she was at least better prepared for it. Wearing a thermal jacket over her uniform, gloves, and her hair braided to fit beneath a knit hat that covered her ears, she trudged into the woods until she found the man she assumed was the one that had summoned her. Hearing her footsteps, he straightened from base of the tree he had tied a rope around, turning to greet her with a smile. "Velal, right?" She nodded, standing at attention until he dismissed it with a wave of his hand. "Pierce Taggert. I'm told the Captain has big plans for you. Part of my job while I'm here is to help make sure you're ready for them."The Petty Officer tilted her head slightly in acknowledgement. It didn't surprise her that Judy had 'big plans' for her... Several of their recent conversations had eluded to as much. She was surprised that she'd be receiving special attention in reaching those plans, rather than achieving them on her own. "I appreciate the help, sir." She replied simply. Pierce continued. "Before we get into too much heavy training, though, I need to see for myself what you're already capable of. Don't worry, I decided to start with something I've been told you excel at." He gestured around the snow-laden campground as he finished his explanation. Jovireh raised an amused eyebrow. "With all due respect, sir... Who told you I excel at snow?" If this was Isaiah's idea of a prank, she was going to have a few words with the Science Officer the next time she saw him. The man chuckled softly, realizing there was a story there, but held in his curiosity. "Well, I had no say in the weather. But I did set up a bit of a survival course for - " His words were cut off by the Captain's voice speaking over both their com badges. The two exchanged an understanding glance before he continued. "Looks like fate has other ideas on how to start." He tapped his com badge. =A="Commander Taggert to Captain Eastman. Acknowledged, PO Velal and I are on our way."=A= Without another word, they both turned and started the hike back up to the lodge. ----[Lodge, Cabin 19]--- Pierce entered first, followed by Jovireh, both removing their gloves and hats and stuffing them into jacket pockets. "Captain, Lieutenant," he greeted the two already present before settling somewhere away from the door to give room for others that may arrive. Jovireh gave a nod in greeting, but remained silent as she also stepped off to the side, curiosity burning at her but knowing the information would be given in due time.

[Lieutenant Commander Anthony "Tony" Sleebaggo & Lieutenant Junior Grade Chloe Hudson - Cabin 19, The Lodge, Arkania]Lieutenant Commander Sleebaggo had been assigned to the USS Mac and Front Ear Station as their Acting Chief Intelligence Officer following his predecessor's misadventure and subsequent suspension. The middle aged man's career had hit something of a brief snag the past couple of years, but was once again on the upward trend now that he had been given a senior intelligence role in a sector that Starfleet was becoming increasingly interested in. Unfortunately, the current crew had mostly been transferred here to get them out of the way. They were hardly the cream of the crop, in his mind. Something that must change for the sake of Starfleet's important missions in the area. It seemed the local officials of Arkania were similarly amateurish, having allowed a murderer to escape. Absolutely shameful.
Wearing a bespoke winter coat over his neatly pressed uniform, he entered the Captain's cabin as ordered, his subordinate Lieutenant Chloe Hudson in tow. He had been attempting to re-teach her a number of important skills as he had noticed a lot of her work was sloppy, perhaps an indicator of why she was assigned out here, or perhaps more an indictment on her previous errant superior. Sleebaggo was a fairly tall man, quite handsome back in the day if he did say so himself, though now his black hair had started to grey and he had became a bit on the chubby side, due to being relegated to desk jobs at Command for some time. "Captain. Commander Taggart," he said with a nod to each as he entered, not paying too much attention to the others. Even compared to Harmon, Sleebaggo's accent was posh. Overly so, some might say to the point it almost seemed like a caricature. He was an Old Etonian after all.
Chloe missed Harmon, the Sleebaggo was already annoying her. He didn't respect her space, or her abilities. Had a smugness that was overpowering, especially when forced to endure a lecture from him, usually about something inane. She hopped Harmon would return to his job, though given what he did she was more worried about Starfleet changing their mind and charging him. At least for now, this escaped prisoner would keep her mind on something new. Maybe even allow her to prove herself to Sleebaggo.

[Ensign Rin Zakir - Cabin 19, The Lodge, Arkania]
When the call came in that the crew had been called on to assist the locals with 'a sensitive investigation, Zak had been quick to volunteer. Not that he was particularly bored or anything, in fact he had just been resting up from a little skiing trip, but he thought that perhaps this would be a good opportunity to step out of the background a little. While he was no boot licker, he wouldn't get very far in this career if he didn't show some kind of dedication!
He wasn't the first to assemble in the cabin that Captain Eastman had rented, though he had hardly expected to be. The bajoran filtered in among a few others, moving himself out of the way of the door to let more in. He wondered just what exactly was going on, and what it was that the locals needed assistance with. Whatever it was, the captain looked serious, armed with a PADD as she no doubt awaited more of their crew.
He silently prayed to The Prophets that it had nothing to do with the murdering 'cardie' they'd just dropped off, but that was surely paranoia. No, it had to be something else, as surely these people couldn't be so incompetent as to let a criminal only just handed over to them get away. Right?

[ CPO Kaya Som | Mount Kimobetua, The Lodge, Arkaria ]Kaya Som and Roland Jenkins had been on the mountain all morning, enjoying the rustic rush of natural gravity. Kaya had never going 'skiing' before, but she took to it quickly, her low center of gravity working to her benefit. "Come on!" she shouted, cupping her hands around her mouth. "Don't be a weenie!" She was wearing the Starfleet issued cold-weather gear they'd all been encouraged to replicated. She was at the bottom of a particularly steep slope, cheeks red from the cold, breathless from the exhileration. She'd left Jenkins at the top. Chief Som had been happier than other engineers to leave the Mac in the hands of the yard maintenance crew. She wasn't the workaholic so many others in her Department were, and not nearly as possessive. Who wouldn't love skipping a shift to throw themselves down a mountain without a holodeck's safeguards. And then the comm badge went off. She didn't particularly want to, but the next message was from Lieutenant Hugo. "Hugo to Som, you're the senior on the planet. Go see what the captain needs."Kaya returned an affirmative to both and waited for Roland to get his tail down the hill. Judith Eastman (Eastman and Jenkins)

[Ensign Enola - Cabin, Arkania] When the voice came through the communicator , Enola ended her meditation and blew out the candle. The room became dark, and the smell of the fire faded - albeit slowly. She picked up her pillow and placed it back on the sofa.
The half-Vulcan retrieved her uniform from the closet. In a few minutes, her uniform was in place, and Enola hurried to the cabin.
With a hiss, the door in front of the part-Vulcan opened, revealing those present. She nodded once to each, and gave Chloe a hint of a Vulcan smile that was meant to mean something like 'congratulations on your promotion'. Soft all in the cabin

[Charlie Fox - Cabin 26, The Lodge, Arkaria] Some unholy hour
Brrp.
BRRRRRPPPP.
BRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRP. BRRP-BRRP-BRRP-BRRP-BRRP-BRRP-BRRP-BRRP-BRRP-BRRP-BRRP-BRRP-BRRP!
"What the..." Charlie's head, tousled bed-hair in her eyes, rolled over. Her arm reached out, palm slapping blindly, trying to find a commbadge, PADD, Olsen... whatever it was making that horrific ringing!
"Sorry, sorry, it is me. OW!"
The sound of the slapping hand on bare skin echoed off the bedroom's panelled walls.
"S'too early!" Came Charlie's whine as she buried her face back into the soft pillow, her extended arm left limp and forgotten in exchange for the chance to sleep through this hangover. However, her companion had other plans. The Arkarian kicked at the sheets, which had become tangled around their legs during the night's activities, and rolled off the bed, landing with a thump and another indignant "OW!". Interesting sounding native curses vied for attention with the female's communicator. When she very loudly knocked over an empty bottle in attempt to locate the device, causing a clatter of noise, Charlie gave up and flung herself dramatically onto her back. "Kill it, Deywa! Drop it into one of the glasses! A full one!"
"I cannot, it might be work, it could be - Ah! Here it is!" Successfully located on top of a pile of discarded cold-gear in the corner, the naked Arkarian guard plucked it and stood, victorious. She smacked it enthusiastically to respond. =//= "Officer Deywa here." =//=
=//= "Deywa, report to the Central Detention Centre immediately. We have a Code Grey. Repeat! Code Grey! Du Toollamé is gone!" =//=
Charlie was on her feet in seconds, hangover and all ideas of Round Two fleeing her thoughts. "What? Gone where? How do you lose a Cardassian politician from a prison?" She was grabbing her thick snow combats, pushing one leg inside as she realised she'd just answered her own question. Sneaky bastard.
"Shh!" Charlie could tell Deywa was frowning, or at least, the Arkarian version of it. Expressions looked different beneath those ridges. =//= "I am on my way." =//= She held the device for a few moments, staring down at it in thought. Then her head whipped around, loose auburn hair flying, when she realised that thump sound this time was Charlie falling over.
She'd tried to put her pants on too quickly, lost her balance, and then tripped over her boots. Her head shot up over the corner of the bed and she smiled winningly at the security guard.
"Can I come?"

[Lt. Commander Isaiah Quinn - Science Lab, USS Mac ] Isaiah continued to review the scans of the asteroid fragments. From what he could see, they were certainly unique. The Arkarian on the screen cleared his throat, as his patience and his anxiousness collided within. =/= "I'm sorry, Commander, but this is highly unorthodox. I'm quite certain that--" =/= the man's voice was interrupted by the chime of Isaiah's comm badge. The science officer briefly excused himself before muting the audio on both ends to hear Captain Eastman's summons. =A= "Acknowledged, Captain," =A= Isaiah said tapping his comm badge. He then resumed the audio and spoke to the Arkarian on the screen. "I apologize. We'll have to pick this up some other time. I promise you'll hear from me at my earliest convenience. Quinn out." He then ended the communication as the man's image disappeared from the viewer. As Quinn began to exit his lab, he spoke aloud to the computer. "Computer. What's the weather like at the Captain's location?" His lips curled into a smile as he reached the door after hearing the computer's weather report. "Guess I better grab a jacket."
[Captain's Cabin, Arkaria] As Isaiah arrived, he took note of the people that had gathered thus far. He had to admit, the number of Security and Intelligence personnel present was hefty. Velal was among them. He was curious how she'd fared with actual snow thus far. Still, given the number of officers present, including two acting department heads, Quinn wondered if their attendance was by coincidence, although he doubted it. He stood off to the side, mainly to allow others the opportunity to sit if they preferred, but gave the Captain his undivided attention nonetheless.

[NPC - PO2 Roland L. Jenkins - Mount Kimobetua]"Don't be a weenie." That was a tall order, and Roland was sure Kaya knew it. He wasn't a particularly daring or athletic man, and his beanie just made him itch. He contemplated just hoofing it back to the lift, slope be damned. And then, he got the call from Eastman. "Well, there goes nothing," he lamented, skiing down as a matter of saving time. There he found Kaya. "Let's hurry. The Captain likes punctuality."And punctuality she did get, albeit barely, with Jenkins himself coming in a sweaty mess. [Capt. Judith Eastman(-Williams), PhD - Cabin 19]"Good morning," Judy said pleasantly to Velal, Taggert, and Niles, and was about to make some small talk when in came Sleebaggo, with enough hot air to melt all the snow on the grounds. He treated her nicely enough, of course, but she was moneyed and a superior officer, so that didn't earn many points for this pompous man. The others filed in as well, and Judy rose from her chair. "Unfortunately, we're in a bit of a hurry, so I can't offer you any hot drinks," she said apologetically, motioning at a pitcher of water. "About an hour ago, at sunrise, Gul Du Toollamé escaped from Arkarian custody. They suffered a momentary power outage at the facility in which he was held, and when they woke up, his cell had a big hole punched in it, and he was gone. They need our help to catch him."Judy took a long look at her officers. "The detention center is located on an island, about 300 km northwest here, 5 km from shore. We don't know... much of anything, right now, and Arkarian police are desperate for help."

[ LT Joshua Niles - Suite 237, The Lodge, Arkaria ]First one there. Well, I guess that it was the sort of thing that happened sometimes. Though, truth be told, he'd truly moved as quickly as he could when the call had come, but he didn't have to wait long before Commander Taggard and Petty Officer Velal arrived. Now, Velal was as solid an NCO as he could hope for, and he certainly could have used her when he had found himself ankles-deep (though upside-down) in a murder investigation. But the acting Head of Security? He still wasn't entirely sure what to make of the man; one thing for sure, he was no Sven Aune. However, when he was greeted he answered with only a nod, which he immediately mirrored for Velal. If anything, Niles expected that he would be asked directly if his opinion was wanted, given he'd started to have some serious doubt as to whether his input was respected at all. However, the next pair to enter was another story altogether. While he'd not worked directly with Chloe Hudson before, he'd heard nothing but good things about her, and he had filed her under the heading of a reliable, skilled officer. But the acting Chief Intelligence Officer? That was another story altogether. Hell, the man hadn't even so much as acknowledged his existence and Velals' when he entered, and his accent spoke of privilege and snobbery; Niles should know, he had come from that particular world. And in Lieutenant-Commander Sleebaggo, whom he was privately referring to as Sleazebag, he saw precisely the kind of officer that the Old Lady had warned him against becoming: stuck up, aristocratic, arrogant, and not considering his subordinates as anything more than the help, at best. Not long after, one of the newer arrivals to the AO, and his department, arrived, followed by another Intelligence Officer. Well, one thing for certain there would be quite a bit of analytical muscle brought to bear here, and hopefully Rin was a better detective than he was... Which, despite having brushed up on techniques and procedures in the last month, was not exactly a high bar. And finally, Chief Som and Jenkins; now, that was an interesting pair all right, and it might be interesting to see if the Trill had put their last meeting behind her, as it had been... less than pleasant. But then again, it had been after they'd dealt with religious fundamentalists butchering a civilian crew, and being denied the ability to actually apprehend the guilty parties... And Commander Quinn; now, that certainly was a heavy presence all right. At least, there wasn't much time to wait before the reason they were gathered there came up. Gul Du Toollme, that smarmy bastard, had broken out of jail and the Arkarians were calling for help. And, the Captain was taking questions. Well, perhaps she wanted him to get better-rounded, but he was still very much one who saw the spaceborne picture first. "How on the ball is the local traffic control? Do we know if there was any traffic up into orbit or anyone leaving the system since? And what measures are they taking to prevent him from getting on a ship and out to warp as we speak?"Well, at least he was also thinking in terms of containment; an escaped prisoner's first goal would be to get off-world and then out of they system, and that had to be denied as quickly as possible. Though if the escape had been performed with a warp-capable shuttle... And even as he waited for answers, he started thinking up of solutions, including what Runabout and other small craft out of the Mac could be brought to bear if required.

While he didn't know much about the man on a personal level, what he had seen and heard of him thus far left him unimpressed. However, there were currently two juniors in the room he was expected to set a sterling example for, so he kept his face and voice neutral as he returned the greeting. "Hello, Commander." It was only after the other man had walked by him that he turned his glance to the Intelligence Lieutenant that followed him, and gave her a sympathetic smile. Several more filed in - a testament to the strength of the crew, that so many would show up on a volunteer basis. He noticed an Ensign in his own department there as well, mentally pulling up the files and placing a name with the face. Rin Zakir... There wasn't much more information than that, but there rarely was with Ensigns. He'd get to see first hand what they were all capable of shortly enough. When the Captain decided not to wait for anyone else, he listened carefully as she explained the situation. A testament of his experience - if he had any emotions regarding the swift escape of a murderer they had just exchanged custody of, his face and posture showed no signs of it. She could have said they would be standing guard of an empty vault, and received the same reaction from him. However, that stoic facade broke when she asked for questions... and immediately Lt. Niles released a barrage of very specific ones, mere moments after the Captain said they had very little information to go off of. At least they were important questions, so apart from a raised eyebrow, Pierce didn't comment. He did, however, clear his throat as he shifted his gaze back to the Captain, his stoicism returning. "If possible, we'll need to know what all they've done so far so we can hit the ground running. Have they said if the hole was created from outside, or inside the cell?"Jovireh wasn't able to keep her expression quite so emotionless. While she hadn't been on Kerelia at the time of the investigation leading to the Gul's arrest, she had heard all about it when she returned from Toros VI. Him being able to escape so soon after incarceration on Arkaria, meant that it was already known where he would be held. Or he had inside help. She wasn't sure which one was most concerning. For now she remained silent, listening intently to the questions and answers, her mind working swiftly to absorb and categorize the information. The Petty Officer had only been involved in two investigations before this... Well, if you count 'finding the body then spending the rest of the day in Sickbay' as being involved... otherwise it was just one. While she'd had quite a larger part to play in investigating the sabotage of the fighter exercises with the Nyberrite Alliance, most of what she had done was follow orders. Knowing her place in the rank structure, that would likely be what she primarily did today, but that certainly didn't mean she didn't need all the information that was being given.

[LCDR Tony Sleebaggo & Chloe Hudson - Cabin 19]
More junior officers began to file in, one of whom was another one of Sleebaggo's subordinates, Ensign Enora or something. He listened carefully as the Captain explained the situation only to be promptly jumped at by that upstart Lieutenant. "Lock down traffic of course, but do not divert all efforts there," he said, his tone almost indicating that he was trying to order the Captain. "Unlike the security forces of this planet, Du Toollamé isn't a dullard. He'll know that we'd be looking for him trying to flee the planet, so most likely he is trying to find somewhere to hunkerdown and hide until there is less scrutiny. Then he can slip by once traffic inevitably starts up again." Taggart at least had more useful questions.
Chloe didn't speak up. She felt far less comfortable participating with Sleebaggo's overbearing presence, though she did smile back at Enola as she entered. She hadn't got to interact with her too much yet, but she seemed nice enough.

[ CPO Kaya Som | Cabin 19 ]
Kaya filled in so that she could see. Most were familiar to her, but there was a new Bajoran [fn]Zakir[/fn], the smarmy new Intel guy replacing Harmon (ew), and the new security chief looking grizzled and experienced (if the greying at his temples was a give-away). Mercifully, circumstances allowed Kaya to avoid turning down Captain Grandma's Earth refreshments. Unluckier though, the Human-Cardassian murder suspect was missing. Kaya had only made it down to the Ha'mara just as night was falling, unable to get off-duty for the rest. There, she'd heard the entire story.
'Momentary power outage?' Kaya made a skeptical little, "hmm!" There were dozens of possible reasons, but they significantly narrowed when their timing was so useful. If there was one thing Kaya could always sniff out, it was a hack. If she could avoid the wilderness at all, she'd take it.
"What do we know about the power cut?" Kaya asked when there was a moment. "And can I have access? Timing of it seems dead convenient."

{Quoted Posts} [Capt. Judith Eastman(-Williams), PhD - Cabin 19][...] "Unfortunately, we're in a bit of a hurry, so I can't offer you any hot drinks," she said apologetically, motioning at a pitcher of water.
"I'll be taking all your questions." [ LT Joshua Niles - Suite 237, The Lodge, Arkaria ][...] At least, there wasn't much time to wait before the reason they were gathered there came up. And what measures are they taking to prevent him from getting on a ship and out to warp as we speak?"[...] [Lt. Cmdr. Pierce Taggert / PO1 Jovireh Velal - Arkaria - Lodge, Cabin 19] [...] Several more filed in - a testament to the strength of the crew, that so many would show up on a volunteer basis. Have they said if the hole was created from outside, or inside the cell?" "And can I have access? Timing of it seems dead convenient." [Lt. Commander Isaiah Quinn - Cabin 19] From the moment the Captain revealed what why they had been gathered, Isaiah found him asking the question that most many scientists typically ask: how is this possible? A high profile prisoner being detained at one of the more prominent holding facilities in the sector had escaped. Quinn doubted that it was a fluke, which meant people had to have taken time to pull this off. Time... resources... personnel. He listened as the people he presumed were experts began to speak. Niles was the first, his train of thought seemed to be on the timing. With as much time that had passed, was it possible that they had already escaped the planet? The next person to speak was the acting Chief of Security, Lt. Commander Taggert. Now, he had asked the question that Isaiah really wanted to know: how was the hole created? Implosion? Explosion? A clean cut? Hell was there even any debris? All those questions would likely be best answered by visiting the actual crime scene. That's where Quinn wanted to be and felt he could best contribute. He doubted that the Captain could tell him (scientific) detail he wanted to know. The best way he could contribute would be working that scene. Then, came yet another acting officer, Lt. Commander Sleebaggo. (Was that really his name?) He had a different theory. That du Toollamé was simply waiting for the dragnet over the planet to die down and then slip away. It was a gamble, but also a smart play. Allow the search to intensify elsewhere and then slip away. It also bought more time to better disappear. And then there was Chief Som. Again, focusing on the question of how? She seemed to be focused on the momentary loss of power. What was the story behind that. Because it was more than just a hell of a coincidence. It was one of the catalysts that had set the escape into motion. "Captain, how much access are the authorities allowing us? I'm probably stating the obvious, but unless du Toollamé has a bestie that's a Q that could spring him by just snapping their fingers, this operation had a lot of moving parts. Have they expressed what they may consider to be 'out of bounds?'" If there were limitations, it'd certainly help to know that now.
