[LTJG Chloe Hudson & Matthew Harmon - Subble]
Chloe reluctantly turned her attention away from Du Toollamé and back towards the sensors in the hope they would pick up the other Subble soon. She was relieved to hear that Matthew was being held hostage, and hadn't gone completely insane. Well that wasn't necessary off the table, but at the very least he hadn't committed treason. She didn't have time to dwell on it as they soon picked up the other submersible again. "I'm locking on!" she said as she tried to get a clean lock on Matthew. "Energising!" she shouted excitedly. A few seconds later he materialised."Chloe?" he said with a somewhat confused look on his face. "Ah, monsieur, good to see you are okay. I'm afraid I spilled my wine," he commiserated to Du Toollamé as he indicated towards the wine stains on his jacket.
"What were you doing over there!" Chloe asked as she punched her boss in the arm. She was annoyed he seemed so chummy with Du Toollamé.
"Well, I was out sailing, enjoying the wind, the peace, and quiet. Some time to myself. When a trio of angry Naussicans appeared and kidnapped me, shoving me into their submarine. It wasn't very polite of them, but Monsieur Du Toollamé was a fairly gracious host given the circumstances."
Chloe again, punched him, this time because she was angry about how blasé he was been. After what happened on Caldonia, not knowing if he was alive or if he was ever going to come back again, she wasn't ready to be put through that mess again. So when she saw him on that shuttle, and then nearly lost him again, it took a toll on her. "Commander," she said to Taggart in a calm, and professional tone. "We cannot be sure that this is not part of some ploy, or that either Du Toollamé and Commander Harmon are telling the truth. Until we can be certain and vet their story we should be extra careful and place them both in handcuffs and keep a close eye on them until we return to the Mac," she advised.
"Hey!" he responded angrily, "There's no need for that!" he looked towards Chloe puzzled, unsure why she was responding like this.

[Charlie Fox - Conference Room Z, 5th floor, Capitol, Arkaria]Charlie blinked rapidly, then found herself leaning back in her chair, eyes on the very compliant Anka. But this was what they needed, and even if it came easier than expected, she wasn't one to look a gift horse in the mouth. This particular horse happened to be one she knew: Yatin. "Yatin arranged for you to have that fund, which you used to pay off Nella Pas and arrange the illegal release of Du Toollamé."It wasn't framed as a question. It was a statement, but Charlie was betting he'd confirm it all. [ LT Joshua Niles - Conference Room Z, 5th Floor, Capitol, Arkaria ]Well, that was fast. No negotiation, no asking for a deal, no refutation of anything. Just pretty much admitting to everything right then and there. And providing one name. Yatin. Instantly the image of the oily, pretentious Caldonian Foreign Office representative flashed in Niles' mind... and somehow he wasn't surprised that he would be named as the Caldonian connection to all of this. Now the question was why. But regardless of what that answer would be, this would be opening a serious political can of worms that could have strategic implications for the Federation, and would need careful handling. But, that was above his level all right. And, truth be told, beyond his caring; he was told to investigate, he investigated; even if it would lead to some rather impolitic results. "I don't suppose you happen to know why Yatin wanted Toollame freed, do you?"Politics, hateful game. Of course someone as greasy as Yatin would find a way to weasel out of getting detained and interrogated, and pressing the issue would make things even more interesting with the Caldonians. [NPCs - Lt. j.g. Mabel Henriksen & Kellor Anka - Conference Room Z]Panicky or otherwise, Kellor Anka wasn't stupid. He knew he didn't have exactly the card they wanted, but the cards he had were quite valuable. "I don't know what they wanted - I'm just the guy with the cash. I can account for every transaction in there, who ordered it and why, but not for intent," he explained, still sounding nervous. "And?" Mabel asked, expecting the catch. "I want a plea bargain."He could hope for a reduced sentence, and/or to share his cell with his hero, his former boss, his secret father, Vazk.

[ Lt. Cmdr. Pierce Taggert / PO1 Jovireh Velal - Arkaria - Shuttle-Submersible Kenkrak] It was somewhat reassuring to hear that Commander Harmon was, in fact, being held against his will. The other man was in enough trouble with Starfleet as it was. A growing sense of urgency filled the submersible as Jenkins announced the other team had sent coordinates for a potential opening in the grid. "Adjusting course and speed to intercept!" he replied, his focus now entirely on pushing the vessel as fast as it could safely go through the deep water. Well, that was a relief. It seemed the rescue no longer hinged entirely on Velal's interrogation skills. They weren't done yet, though. "The more you tell us, the more your cooperation will be taken into account at your sentencing. What do you know about the technology they're using to get past our sensors?" Knowing exactly how to bypass the cover would make finding and retrieving Harmon much easier. "Approaching the coordinates. Please tell me you've got something." Taggert asked Hudson and Jenkins as he slowed the vessel. They didn't need to find out what a full speed underwater collision would do to the submersible. [NPCs - Gul Councillor-Elect Guillaume Marie-Étienne François Henri-Pierre Thierry du Toollamé & PO2 Roland L. Jenkins - Shuttle-Submersible Kenkrak]And just like that, Matthieu Harmon was back among them. "There is no need for restraints. Matthieu and I are civilized men. We will not run," Du Toollamé reassured, albeit feebly. "I know they are heading off-world, to neutral space. That is all I know.""Matthieu? Are you two amis?" Jenkins asked, the French rolling off his tongue awkwardly. "Recommend we call the locals in to intercept the Y-4, sir."

[ Ensign Rin Zakir - Briefing Room #2, Spaceport HQ] Though he had been concentrating so much on his own work that he didn't notice the nudge from Som to Quinn (although it wouldn't have been all that subtle otherwise), it did not escape his attention when things began to escalate. First, after informing Quinn of her findings, Som was denied a PADD from Kallis containing some further findings. From Director Ke, no less, who then went on to accuse the woman of pretty much being behind the whole thing. Something the engineer denied very strongly. Yeah, very professional without more evidence than that, he thought as he once more glanced at his screen. Was that really all he had to go on? Som had beaten him to it, but it wasn't like it was a race. More of a concern was that now it had been revealed that Trax had access to all of the command codes. Coupled with the overheard statement from earlier, and it was a valid path to follow. The man had been very co operative with their investigation, but it was also possible that could also have been a front. Again, he wasn't willing to announce guilt before all other possibilities had been exhausted, so when he was tasked with finding him, Zak nodded and stood from his console. "Sir", he acknowledged the order, before heading back into the direction he had last seen Trax. Whoever the guilty party was, the net was closing in around them, and he would need to keep his guard up. "Mr Trax?", he called out, hoping the man wasn't so far away to not hear him. "Can I have another moment of your time please?", he added. He wondered if the director himself had access to any of the clearance codes, but again, until their was sufficient evidence, then despite the three suspects (in his eyes at least), then all were innocent until proven guilty. [ Snr. Manager Tullin Trax - Control Center, Spaceport HQ] Trax turned to look over his shoulder to see that young, Ensign Rin had returned once more. He has asked for another moment of his time. Trax's eyes looked past the Bajoran briefly where he could see the rest of the Starfleet officers speaking with both Director Ke and Kel Kellis. Whatever was going on was clearly important. His eyes returned to the Bajoran and he began to nod. "Of course," he answered. He gave a few parting orders to his subordinate before following Rin over to the others.
[Lt. Commander Isaiah Quinn - Command Center, Spaceport HQ] With everyone gathered, Quinn thought it about time to get to the bottom of this once and for all. It was a time such as this that Captain Eastman's presence would be ideal, or even Lt. Commander Taggert. Someone with enough experience to talk culprit into surrendering at this point. He wasn't a diplomat that could do the verbal gymnastics and draw out an actual admission like Eastman. Nor did he have Taggert's experience of narrating the scenario so that the only option that remained was submission. He was a scientist. His logic was rooted in fact. So, he'd have to play to his strengths. "Director Ke... Mr. Trax... Miss Kallis, I don't see any reason to beat around the bush," he began. "My team has gathered enough evidence to suggest that the fugitive Du Toollamé, albeit indirectly, received aid from someone in this office. Simply put, the three of you are the most likely of suspects." Isaiah's eyes scanned each of them as they spoke, to see if either seemed inclined to waiver, but thus far he saw nothing of the sort. "Means, motive and opportunity," Isaiah continued. "That's the criteria typically employed for an indictment. Chief Som is very good at her job. So, if you had the means to do it, she will find out exactly how you did it. I can tell you this, I wouldn't bet against her." Quinn continued to study the three suspects as he went on. "Ensign Rin may look young, but he is a well-trained security officer. You may think you covered your tracks, but he can dissect every moment of your day and discern the exact moment you took advantage of that opportunity.""And as for motive," Isaiah smiled slightly, "Let's just say I've reviewed all your personnel files and accessed your recent communications. At this point, your best chance at leniency is to step forward and cooperate. Otherwise, the courts can prove to be exceptionally stubborn, and house you on a penal colony so far away you'd be lucky to be an afterthought to your loved ones." A long sigh left Isaiah's lips as he glanced upon Ke, Trax and Kallis once more. "So, what's it going to be, because no matter how you slice it, it's over. The coordinates have already been discovered and transmitted to our search teams. By now, your accomplices are already in custody. Personally, I'd want to be the one making a deal rather than being a part of someone else's."There was a long silent pause, before the true culprit finally stepped forward. Lt. Commander Quinn nodded slowly. "Mr. Trax, if you could arrange transport for Mr. Rin and our detainee. Two directly to Central Holding," he said as he turned his eyes to Zakir. "You'll find PO1 S'Riia already waiting with security team for the official transfer of custody. Be sure to get a full statement first. The Chief and I will be along as soon as we finish collecting evidence." Isaiah didn't address the detainee, instead turning to face the last remaining Arkarian. "Miss Kallis, I would appreciate it if you could accompany us to the Director's office. We may need you to verify some of the remaining evidence." After a simple affirmation, Quinn began to move towards Ke's office, already reaching for his comm badge to report all that had transpired to Captain Eastman.

Captain's Log.
I would say we had a successful operation. We managed to capture Du Toollamé, as well as a Y-4 class shuttle-submersible full of accomplices, while rescuing a hostage we had not even known they had taken. We caught a particularly talkative co-conspirator - Kellor Anka - in our net as well. All told, a robust case to give the Arkarian prosecutors.
However, I fear they will not have much more success. All evidence indicates that the conspiracy leads to the Caldonian foreign office, who - we speculate - hoped to win favor with the new Cardassian government by rescuing Du Toollamé. Between diplomatic immunity and Caldonia's privileged status as our Trillium supplier, they're untouchable. Again. Mr. Yatin couldn't get in trouble with the Federation if he tried - and it sure seems like he's trying.
At the very least, my crew - with two high-profile exceptions - performed excellently, as did Charlie Fox. I am proud of them, especially Chief Som, who has been recovering quite well in recent months.
The exceptions, however, must be dealt with. Commander Sleebaggo has received a final warning, and will be sent back to Earth if he gives us another excuse to do so. I will discuss with Thea and Felicity just what we'll do with Lieutenant Niles, but it will have to be severe as well.
On a personal note, I've been asked to make a trip back to Earth, to... for lack of a better term, help Starfleet beg for more budgets for frontier outposts. I've agreed, only because it gives me an opportunity to see Earth again. I leave in two weeks - one week after the Mac returns.
End log.
