[Capt. Judith Eastman(-Williams), PhD - Cabin 19]Judy took note of all the questions, ignoring the unpleasant tones from a certain Intel officer. At the end of the day, she hardly defined herself by his respect.. "Well, gentlemen, on the topic of space travel, as you know, Arkaria is a major regional trading hub. Traffic operations went into a restricted protocol, with enhanced screenings and all that jazz, about 15 minutes after the outage, so that now, every ship moving in or out of the planet has gone through the most advanced scans. However, even the finest operation can miss a subtly disguised traveler, or an unauthorized shuttle. There's also the possibility that he's made his way off to the mountains of Arkaria, on-world but secreted away."
"Mr. Taggert, Ms. Som, unfortunately I don't really have answers for you. The outage allowed a number of other criminals to leave their cells, including some violent types, so the authorities have been too busy trying - successfully - to control those, and haven't run anything resembling an investigation yet. In fact, they're just starting now, after they've put the last murderer back in her cell."
"And that, Mr. Quinn, leads us to the question of access: we have all the access we want, for now, except that we're not allowed to shut down the spaceport. I've spoken with the minister of the Interior[fn]The officeholder responsible, among many other things, for law enforcement and public safety[/fn], and they're all just so desperate to avoid the embarrassment of this debacle."Setting the image of that hopelessly embarrassed politico aside, Judy looked at her crew. "We're going to divide into three teams to investigate. Team A, with me, will inspect the crime scene at the prison itself. Team B, with Commander Taggert, will investigate any escape routes on the surface, starting with ways on and off the island. Team C, with Commander Quinn, will investigate space traffic for possible leads. The rest of you can self-select for your teams."Judy deliberately selected two subordinates who could be trusted in independent operational roles. She knew Sleebaggo would be upset, but that was a price she was willing to pay.

[Lt. Cmdr. Pierce Taggert / PO1 Jovireh Velal - Arkaria - Lodge, Cabin 19] Under normal circumstances, Pierce would have merely grunted a reply to the Intelligence Officer's greeting. While he didn't know much about the man on a personal level, what he had seen and heard of him thus far left him unimpressed. However, there were currently two juniors in the room he was expected to set a sterling example for, so he kept his face and voice neutral as he returned the greeting. "Hello, Commander." It was only after the other man had walked by him that he turned his glance to the Intelligence Lieutenant that followed him, and gave her a sympathetic smile. Several more filed in - a testament to the strength of the crew, that so many would show up on a volunteer basis. He noticed an Ensign in his own department there as well, mentally pulling up the files and placing a name with the face. Rin Zakir... There wasn't much more information than that, but there rarely was with Ensigns. He'd get to see first hand what they were all capable of shortly enough. When the Captain decided not to wait for anyone else, he listened carefully as she explained the situation. A testament of his experience - if he had any emotions regarding the swift escape of a murderer they had just exchanged custody of, his face and posture showed no signs of it. She could have said they would be standing guard of an empty vault, and received the same reaction from him. However, that stoic facade broke when she asked for questions... and immediately Lt. Niles released a barrage of very specific ones, mere moments after the Captain said they had very little information to go off of. At least they were important questions, so apart from a raised eyebrow, Pierce didn't comment. He did, however, clear his throat as he shifted his gaze back to the Captain, his stoicism returning. "If possible, we'll need to know what all they've done so far so we can hit the ground running. Have they said if the hole was created from outside, or inside the cell?"Jovireh wasn't able to keep her expression quite so emotionless. While she hadn't been on Kerelia at the time of the investigation leading to the Gul's arrest, she had heard all about it when she returned from Toros VI. Him being able to escape so soon after incarceration on Arkaria, meant that it was already known where he would be held. Or he had inside help. She wasn't sure which one was most concerning. For now she remained silent, listening intently to the questions and answers, her mind working swiftly to absorb and categorize the information. The Petty Officer had only been involved in two investigations before this... Well, if you count 'finding the body then spending the rest of the day in Sickbay' as being involved... otherwise it was just one. While she'd had quite a larger part to play in investigating the sabotage of the fighter exercises with the Nyberrite Alliance, most of what she had done was follow orders. Knowing her place in the rank structure, that would likely be what she primarily did today, but that certainly didn't mean she didn't need all the information that was being given. [LCDR Tony Sleebaggo & Chloe Hudson - Cabin 19]
More junior officers began to file in, one of whom was another one of Sleebaggo's subordinates, Ensign Enora or something. He listened carefully as the Captain explained the situation only to be promptly jumped at by that upstart Lieutenant. "Lock down traffic of course, but do not divert all efforts there," he said, his tone almost indicating that he was trying to order the Captain. "Unlike the security forces of this planet, Du Toollamé isn't a dullard. He'll know that we'd be looking for him trying to flee the planet, so most likely he is trying to find somewhere to hunkerdown and hide until there is less scrutiny. Then he can slip by once traffic inevitably starts up again." Taggart at least had more useful questions.
Chloe didn't speak up. She felt far less comfortable participating with Sleebaggo's overbearing presence, though she did smile back at Enola as she entered. She hadn't got to interact with her too much yet, but she seemed nice enough. [ CPO Kaya Som | Cabin 19 ]Kaya filled in so that she could see. Most were familiar to her, but there was a new Bajoran [fn]Zakir[/fn], the smarmy new Intel guy replacing Harmon (ew), and the new security chief looking grizzled and experienced (if the greying at his temples was a give-away). Mercifully, circumstances allowed Kaya to avoid turning down Captain Grandma's Earth refreshments. Unluckier though, the Human-Cardassian murder suspect was missing. Kaya had only made it down to the Ha'mara just as night was falling, unable to get off-duty for the rest. There, she'd heard the entire story. 'Momentary power outage?' Kaya made a skeptical little, "hmm!" There were dozens of possible reasons, but they significantly narrowed when their timing was so useful. If there was one thing Kaya could always sniff out, it was a hack. If she could avoid the wilderness at all, she'd take it. "What do we know about the power cut?" Kaya asked when there was a moment. "And can I have access? Timing of it seems dead convenient." [Lt. Commander Isaiah Quinn - Cabin 19] From the moment the Captain revealed what why they had been gathered, Isaiah found him asking the question that most many scientists typically ask: how is this possible? A high profile prisoner being detained at one of the more prominent holding facilities in the sector had escaped. Quinn doubted that it was a fluke, which meant people had to have taken time to pull this off. Time... resources... personnel. He listened as the people he presumed were experts began to speak. Niles was the first, his train of thought seemed to be on the timing. With as much time that had passed, was it possible that they had already escaped the planet? The next person to speak was the acting Chief of Security, Lt. Commander Taggert. Now, he had asked the question that Isaiah really wanted to know: how was the hole created? Implosion? Explosion? A clean cut? Hell was there even any debris? All those questions would likely be best answered by visiting the actual crime scene. That's where Quinn wanted to be and felt he could best contribute. He doubted that the Captain could tell him (scientific) detail he wanted to know. The best way he could contribute would be working that scene. Then, came yet another acting officer, Lt. Commander Sleebaggo. (Was that really his name?) He had a different theory. That du Toollamé was simply waiting for the dragnet over the planet to die down and then slip away. It was a gamble, but also a smart play. Allow the search to intensify elsewhere and then slip away. It also bought more time to better disappear. And then there was Chief Som. Again, focusing on the question of how? She seemed to be focused on the momentary loss of power. What was the story behind that. Because it was more than just a hell of a coincidence. It was one of the catalysts that had set the escape into motion. "Captain, how much access are the authorities allowing us? I'm probably stating the obvious, but unless du Toollamé has a bestie that's a Q that could spring him by just snapping their fingers, this operation had a lot of moving parts. Have they expressed what they may consider to be 'out of bounds?'" If there were limitations, it'd certainly help to know that now. She knew Sleebaggo would be upset, but that was a price she was willing to pay. [ LT Joshua Niles - Cabin 19, The Lodge, Arkaria ]Lieutenant Commander Matthew Harmon was never entirely a pleasant person to be around so far as one Joshua Niles was concerned. He had this way of making him feel as though he was entirely to do so much as remember to do up his fly after using the head without the senior IntO's support and input. However abrasive he was, though, the man did recognize competence, and he was competent himself. Sleebaggo, on the other hand, in the way he was speaking to the Captain and pretty much acted as though he was giving her orders, seemed to have absolutely no redeeming qualities. And assuming right off the bat that Toollame was still on the ground and being blind to space at all? That was ridiculous. SERE training was some time time ago, but he recalled one of the primary tenets quite clearly and no doubt the Cardassian doctrine on the matter couldn't be much different given such a matter was fundamental: when detained on the surface of a hostile world, the first priority was to escape, and that meant get off the ground and get to warp. More points were raised, and the Captain then came up with her current plan of action. There was much that could be done, as as the others, and the Old Lady were speaking, he started tapping at his PADD; he needed information of his own, and he found some of it. And while his first instinct was to attach himself to Quinn and work the spaceborne search, he had the very distinct feeling that he would be under eyes, and judged for his choice... And while he would be much more comfortable dealing with sensor readings, shipping channels and flight plans, he knew that it would look unfavourably in the Captain's eyes... and no matter how much time he'd spent in the last month refreshing himself on investigative procedures, nothing beat the real thing. "Captain, barring any objections I'll be with you. Though, I may have a suggestion to assist Commander Quinn and our Arkarian hosts."He tapped at his PADD a few more times, and sent off a list of personnel who may or may not be available to the other senior officers... including Sleazebag. "Mac may be in yard hands, but we should still be able to launch some small craft of our own. If we strip the anchor watch to the bone and recall some personnel from leave, we could augment the Arkarians' inspections, if they can provide search personnel and we get them shuttles and crews."Recapturing fugitives, that depended on so many things, and frankly it had a lot in common with search and rescue or hunting down pirates: one had to define their search volume, then systematically eliminate the portions where they were not found. But, there was no reason it had to be a single-pronged effort.

[Lt. Cmdr. Pierce Taggert / PO1 Jovireh Velal - Arkaria - Lodge, Cabin 19] Taggert rubbed a hand over the stubble on his jaw. Multiple prisoners escaping was definitely a priority to contain... But the fact that the Arkarians had devoted all of their resources to that one goal instead of beginning the investigation into the actual escape simultaneously was a problem, and one they had to fix. He simply listened as the Captain gave the orders, nodding in acknowledgement of his role. When the Niles was the next to speak up, Taggert made a mental note of his decision to join the Captain's team. Of course, he a theory for the reason behind the choice, but he would wait for the debriefing when the job was done to clarify her take on the matter. "We best get a move on. We've got a lot of ground to cover and a lot of time already wasted."Jovireh took a deep breath, remaining at Taggert's side to indicate her choice of assignments. While she knew she could be useful in any of the teams, she had worked with the Captain and Commander Quinn plenty of times before. If she really was on the fast track to "big plans" in her career, she needed to take the opportunity to learn from someone she hadn't worked with before. It would also be difficult for him to know what she was capable of if he didn't see it for himself, as he had stated earlier. She bit the inside of her lip, restlessness setting in as she waited for the order to depart.

[Ensign Rin Zakir - Cabin 19, The Lodge, Arkania]
It would seem a fair few answered the voluntary summons, although he really expected little else. He'd heard things about the people out here, about how they were supposedly far from being Starfleet's 'cream of the crop', but so far he'd yet to understand why. There would be time to find out, sooner or later, but that fun would be for another time.
For now, Captain Eastman addressed those who had gathered, confirming his worst fears as he somehow managed to suppress a groan. They had one job, these people, and they had failed. As in, the mother of all failures, and now they had to pick up the slack. Then again, it was entirely possibly that they hadn't been all that incompetent after all and that something had happened to cause the power outage and subsequent escape.
Some good questions were asked, many of which had also been on his mind too. He thought that Sleebaggo was being perhaps a little harsh, not to mention risking stepping out of line, but then who was he to judge? Another thought also occurred to him, regarding the conveniently timed power cut. He wasn't the only one either, he noticed as the corner of his mouth twitched at Quinn's words. Yes, of course, a Q, how obvious!
"Is there anything to suggest he had help of some kind? Besides a random Q bestie", he asked, unable to resist adding a small reference to the previous question. He would also be very interested to know just how much authority, or at least access they would be allowed. Too many limitations would greatly hinder the investigation, so, prophets willing, they would at least have access to security footage of some kind.
Thankfully, it seemed as though that would indeed be the case, although he maybe should have considered the possibility of other fugitives on the loose. that could make things a lot more difficult, although it sounded as though the arkarians at least had a handle on that situation. Other questions were also answered, although it seemed that anything to do with the outage itself was still to be investigated.
That would be Team A's job, apparently, as they were now to split into three groups. He would go wherever his skills would be most useful, though he simply did not have the expertise of some of the others gathered here. Oh well, what he lacked in experience, he would make up for in determination!

[Charlie Fox - En Route to Akrath Island]
"This is your ride?" Charlie asked, her expression reflecting exactly what she thought of the rust-coloured, triangular shaped... vehicle that Deywa had obviously left parked behind The Lodge Lounge after they'd hooked up. "What even is it?"
"It is my paknas." The Arkarian's tone was affectionate, her smile distracted. She approached the thing, located some kind of switch or panel that wasn't visible to Charlie, and both sides of the narrow cockpit slid upward.
"Your go-where," Charlie repeated, getting the distinct impression that the translator was missing some nuance.
"Yes! Paknas. Come on Charlie Fox, you will like it, I think."
And as it turned out, Charlie Fox did like it. The vehicle was some kind of Arkarian all-terrain contraption, and it was much speedier and sturdier than it had appeared to Charlie outside the Lounge; half buried under a snowfall as it had been. It streaked over the land, and then it glided like a dream over the lake, as they sailed, like olden times when people had boats, toward Akrath Island.
Deywa, who was somewhat distracted by the situation in the Detention Centre, did speak a little about her paknas. She declared it better than a shuttle, that driving took more skill than flying, and it could speedily transport you across snow, water and ice. The go-where was the go-to of the Arkarian working classes. Charlie was just short of asking if she could stick her head out of the window, like a dog.
It wasn't long before they transitioned from lake to solid ground, and soon they were approaching the prison. A frenzy of journalists had gathered outside, excited by the smell of blood in the water, waiting for chum. Deywa's long frame climbed out, one booted foot meeting frozen ground. Then, remembering her companion, she reached back inside and tapped a centre console. The ancient thing flickered, then a panel slid aside to reveal a compartment. After some hasty rummaging, the security guard located a laminated card with the word VISITOR on it in several languages. She passed it to Charlie.
"This will get you as far as the lobby. After that, I do not know you, Charlie Fox."
Charlie nodded in response, understanding what Deywa was doing for her, and not inclined to push any further. After a moment she looked up, playful grin from earlier returning. "But you can know me again later, right?"
The Arkarian groaned and stepped all the way out of the paknas. "You are not as charming as you think you are."
Charming was not a word that Charlie would ever use to describe herself, but she didn't argue. "I'll take that as a yes!" She followed suit and stepped beyond the protection of the vehicle. She remained in the cold for a further five minutes, giving Deywa enough time to avoid any suspicion as to what kind of company she was keeping, and then she got to work herself.

Too many limitations would greatly hinder the investigation, so, prophets willing, they would at least have access to security footage of some kind. [Lt. Commander Isaiah Quinn - Cabin 19] Quinn was especially attentive as the Captain spoke. Like any scientist, he appreciated a good mystery. Though, it was important to be observant of all the facts, less you miss a key piece of information that could explain everything. Captain Eastman addressed the space traffic first. It seemed that lockdown had commenced some fifteen minutes after the outage. She had also mentioned that prior to that, Arkaria was a well-known trading hub, which meant until the lockdown commenced, the skies were a proverbial needle in a haystack. He didn't envy the person responsible to sort through that. She then addressed the activity at the prison, and as she explained, it became more apparent why the authorities were asking for the help of the Mac crew. Apparently du Toollamé wasn't the only one to escape during the outage. Several other criminals had also left their cells, which made it the perfect distraction. That distraction had also delayed their investigation of the crime scene until now. That also meant there was the potential for the scene to be further contaminated. Quinn's question was the next to be addressed, as she stated that they essentially had access to whatever they needed. They just couldn't shut down the spaceport. Captain Eastman then went on to state that she wanted the crew to split up into teams. She would lead the team that investigated the prison, Lt. Commander Taggert was tasked with tracking the potential escape routes on the surface, while he the remaining task of investigating the space traffic was left to Quinn. The scientist had to admit he was surprised. He had thought his talents would have been placed elsewhere, but knew the Captain well enough to know that she had her reasons for the decision she'd made. "Understood, Captain," he replied simply. Lt. Niles then spoke up, stating that he had some suggestions that he wanted to share with Quinn... after making it known he'd prefer to work the scene with the Captain. Isaiah nodded as the lieutenant spoke, and made a mental note to look over the names that he'd suggested. "Thank you, Lieutenant. I'll take it all under advisement once I've assessed the situation at the spaceport."Taggert stated that it was wise that they begin to get underway. Isaiah couldn't disagree. Time was a precious commodity, and it was working in favor of du Toollamé with each passing second. The young Bajoran ensign, Rin, made a good observation about attempting to identify potential accomplices. There had to be someone on this planet that fit that definition. The only question was: who?

Charlie's cheeks and nose were red, her eyes glassy and she could no longer feel her bits, but she wouldn't miss the chance to put the Minister of Justice on the spot. Her finger movements were difficult to discern beneath the thick, inelegant snow gloves she had on, so she had to keep things a little more simple for Olsen. A raised hand and a pointed wave did the trick, and the spherical holorecorder woke from standby mode and whirred into action. It was all about timing. Charlie waited until the Minister was almost too far, then elbowed another journalist out of the way (you snooze you lose), pointedly ignored his affronted protests, and smiled a greeting at the Arkarian politician. "Minister Teley! Charlie Fox, Federation News Network. Spare a moment for the FNN?"She waited a beat, smile still engaged, brows raised as she waited for approval. "How do you respond to Minister Palkor's suggestion that this dangerous Cardassian murderer is now loose due to your hubris?"

[Charlie Fox - Detention Centre, Akrath Island]The wind whipped her hair around and battered any exposed skin with a needle-like sting. "How do you respond to Minister Palkor's suggestion that this dangerous Cardassian murderer is now loose due to your hubris?" [NPC - Minister Teley - Akrath Island]"I'll always have time for the FNN," Teley answered. She was used to softball coverage from them, and this new reporter seemed likely to give it. Likelier still after the question she asked. It was almost teed up for Teley's favorite talking point. "My dear friend Palkor should check his own house first. If he had spent the last three years putting Arkaria's interests before his political advancement, and actually devoted himself to running the ministry of the Interior, this place would not have fallen apart."One never could let a good crisis go to waste.

[Lt. Cmdr. Pierce Taggert / PO1 Jovireh Velal - Arkaria - Lodge, Cabin 19] Well... It didn't seem like anyone else was in a hurry to volunteer themselves for a team, and every second they stood there was another second their target slipped farther away from them. "Lt. Hudson, you're with me." Her experience in the field would be beneficial to him, since he'd be wearing multiple hats for this mission and Velal wasn't familiar with fugitive tracking. He turned his gaze to the remaining security personnel. "Ensign, you'll help out Commander Quinn. Let's get moving." Trusting his team to follow, he strode out of the cabin and towards the shuttle port. Jovireh blinked, momentarily taken aback by the sudden gruffness displayed by the new head of security, but she didn't argue as she swiftly turned and followed him. "How should we start, sir?" she asked, fumbling to pull her gloves on as she walked. "We've got a whole planet to cover, but we've got sensors on our side. We'll start with the waters around the island. Lieutenant, I'll need you to configure the shuttle's forward sensors to detect the fugitive's biosigns. PO, you'll use the aft sensors to search the waters and shoreline for anything out of place, and I mean anything. If there's so much as a ripple or dislodged rock, I want to know what caused it. Understood? ""Aye, sir." Sensor sweeps. She could do that.

[ CPO Kaya Som | Cabin 19 ]
In the way their Captain often did, she staffed a solution by delegation rather than dictation. This pleased Kaya. Because while Kaya's question might have led one to believe she was keen to have a look around the prison, but truly, she was not. Certainly not, with all those violent people lurking around the facility trying to recapture prisoners.
No, best not tempt fate. Let Niles have a go at it. Kaya, you follow Quinn. Crack on.
"I'll come with you, Commander," she said to Quinn. "I've got some ideas about where to look. Whether we have access or not."
She muttered the last part and took up space at the taller man's flank.

[Ensign Enola - Cabin 19, Arkaria] Enola briefly returned Chloe's gaze as she ran through in her mind the report where this Cardassian was caught. As she recalled, her attention was drawn to the behavior of the new intelligence officer. Although she didn't know Harmon, she already wanted him back. Calling the security forces stupid already was a bit much for her ears. Cardassians were known for their photographic memory, and no one could be accused of being smart.
She glanced quickly once more at the other intelligence officers before moving slowly toward the captain, which meant she would be assigned to her team.

[LCDR Tony Sleebaggo & LTJG Chloe Hudson - Cabin 19]It seemed neither the captain, nor presumably, the Arkarian authorities had the faintest clue what was going on. Such ineptitude by the Arkarian security and law enforcement services would quite likely result in Du Toollamé escaping regardless of Starfleet's best efforts to clean up the shambles they have left in their wake. Sleebaggo was mortally aggrieved by the Captain's decision to put a science officer in charge of one of the components of the investigation and manhunt. Perhaps the man was competent in his role, however he certainly did not have the breadth of experience and wisdom in these areas. Clearly, Sleebaggo and Taggart would have been the logical team leaders. It was an complete affront to all that is decedent. Absolutely shameful disrespect. Nevertheless, he kept a straight, stoic face and a stiff upper lip choosing to be the bigger man and move on. "We ought to make our way to the scene itself, lest we allow a chance for those who allowed Du Toollamé to escape through their failings," he told the Captain, assigning himself to her group. Before he had a chance to assign Chloe, Taggart requisitioned her. While Sleebaggo did intend to assign Chloe to that team anyway, he did not appreciate another officer ordering around his agents. Before he had a chance to speak up and instead assign Chloe to Quinn's team as way of reasserting his authority, Chloe had chirped up.
"Yes sir, very good," she said perhaps a bit too eager to be free from Sleebaggo, at least for a bit. Without looking back at her department head, she quickly legged it out of the room with Taggart before Sleebaggo had the opportunity to recall her. Once they were on the other side of the door she let out a slight but still audible sigh of relief. "Aye, sir," she nodded confidently as she made her way with them to the shuttle where she quickly began configuring the shuttle's sensors to focus on Du Toollamé's biosigns.

[Capt. Judith Eastman(-Williams), PhD & Lt. j.g. Mabel Henriksen - Cabin 19 -> Rec Yard, Akrath Island]Judy looked with general contentment at her people as they sorted themselves out, even the nastiest among them. "Thank you, Commander," Judy acknowledged Sleebaggo - the nastiness in question - with the patience only a parent could find. She saw the Vulcan Ensign, Enola, walking towards her, looking a bit like a lost puppy. "Ensign, welcome to Team A," the Captain said softly, in her grandmotherly way. Then, raising her voice to carry across the room, she added to the team leads. "Commanders, feel free to seize any facilities you need - on my orders or Minister Palkor's, whichever works - but be gentle."Into the cabin came Mabel, huffing and puffing. She was finally a decent runner, thanks to months of training for that fitness eval, but she clearly didn't do as well in the snow. "Sorry I'm late, ma'am.""Mabel, you're with me. Mr. Jenkins, you're on Team B."Mabel nodded. =A= "Eastman to Akrath Island, five to beam to the rec yard in one minute." =A= "Get your coats."Judy herself went to the closet to retrieve her trench coat, as well as her boots and a hat. It wouldn't do to visit prison in her slippers, would it? The members of Team A materialized a minute later, right outside cell block R, in the prison yard of Akrath Island. Before them stood a cell with a great big hole blown through it. Gusts of wind blew through fiercely.
Tag Joshua Niles , Matthew Harmon , Enola [NPC - PO2 Roland L. Jenkins - Cabin 19 -> Shuttle]Obediently, Jenkins approached Commander Taggert's team, including Chloe. "I wonder if he has any sensor-dampening equipment with him," he mused.

Before them stood a cell with a great big hole blown through it. Gusts of wind blew through fiercely. [Lt. Commander Isaiah Quinn - Cabin 19] Lt. Commander Taggert assigned Ensign Rin to accompany Quinn. The science officer made a count of one volunteer... or voluntold, however, from what he'd seen thus far Rin seemed like a very capable officer. In fact, he doubted Taggert would have had the young Bajoran there if he felt otherwise. The next person to volunteer was Kaya. He'd had the opportunity to work with Kaya several times over the past year, and never found himself disappointed. "Glad to have you, Chief."Isaiah watched as the rest of the teams took form and prepared to take their leave. Both Sleebaggo and Enola assembled with the Captain, while Taggert picked Hudson to come with him. The Captain reminded both Taggert and himself that they had the authority to seize facilities if necessary on her order as well as that of the Minister of the Interior. Hopefully, it wouldn't come to that. Quinn reached up and tapped his comm badge. =A=Lt. Commander Quinn to Spaceport HQ. Three to transport to your location. Please inform Site Director of our arrival." =A= Within a few seconds, the three Starfleet officers began to dematerialize in the Arkarian transporter beam.
[NPC - Snr. Director Phass Ke - Control Center, Spaceport HQ] Staring at the image on the screen Phass wasn't sure if he should fell agitated or relieved. He didn't typically interact with people. It was always about numbers, and right now numbers were down. He had logistics directors and even a few CEOs sending him messages to speed things along with their shipments. And now, on top of that, he had to deal with Starfleet. He pushed the thoughts aside as he rose to his feet. He could handle this. He wouldn't be here otherwise. It took a great deal of skill and cunning in determining the correct bums to kiss... rather literally on occasion. Phass rose from his seat and began to make his way towards his office door. As it parted, he could see the trio of Starfleet officers being directed towards him now. "Greetings. I am Senior Director Phass Ke," he said nodding his head slightly. "Hello, Director. I'm Lt. Commander Quinn. This is Chief Som, our Engineer, and Ensign Rin, Security," Isaiah said. "If you don't mind Director, we'd really like to get started. If you could lead the way."Phass nodded. "Of course, come with me," the Arkarian said as he began to lead the way. "Typically Commander, we manage to oversee the comings and goings of over one hundred ships on average. Right now, at our reduced rate has us processing just under fifty."Hearing the numbers, Isaiah's eye arched. "Really? That's... rather impressive. I would have expected things to slow down by nearly 75 to 80%," the scientist said. "We pride ourselves on being efficient at our duties, Commander," said Phass. He finally came to a halt where there were several concentric arcs of screens and desks with people working at each of the terminals. "These people are responsible for processing all of our interplanetary traffic. They are in consistent contact with each of the hubs all over the planet and in orbit as well. Nothing happens that we don't know about."Quinn stared out at the people working below, and on any normal day, he may have been impressed. However, he wasn't here for a tour. "This is all impressive Director Ke, but what I'd really like to see is a record of the ships that have been processed within the past two hours," Isaiah said. "I'd also like for my people to have an opportunity to become acquainted with your security measures and your sensor technology."Ke seemed to swallow his next words, but eventually nodded. "Of course, Commander. Tullin Trax over there is our on-site security manager. He should be able to answer any questions about our security procedures. In regards to our sensors, I believe Kel Kallis will be able to satisfy your curiosities. Level Six, last door on the left." Ke cleared his throat. "I'll see to those records personally, Commander." Ke took the opportunity to excuse himself leaving the Starfleet officers to themselves. Once alone, Isaiah looked towards Zakir. "Mr. Rin, I need a tactical assessment. Get with this Tullin Trax and find out what you can about their screening procedures, on-board searches, capabilities for ship-retention and report back to me," Isaiah said. He looked across the room, and nodded towards the man that Ke had pointed out as Trax. Isaiah then turned towards Kaya. "Chief, see what you can find out from this Kallis person. If there's any sort of hole in their sensor net, I want to know about it. And... I think I may need to take you up on your earlier offer." Ke was treating Quinn and the rest of his team like a fourth grade field trip instead of partners in a worldwide manhunt. The burning question was why?
