[Charlie Fox - A not so boring tour, after all, LZ-2, Kerelia]The Wolf Priest, as she'd heard some of the older Bajorans refer to him as, approached and with a voice Charlie found oddly soothing, addressed the engineer. Charlie was by no means religious, but she was no stranger to a good theological debate, either, and she thought maybe she wouldn't mind debating with the Vedek. Perhaps he'd give her an interview... She mentally shook herself, irritated that she'd slid off and detached again. It had become more and more frequent since their return from Caldonia. Charlie nodded in return to Syl, and knew they had Kova and Shavan somewhere at their back. That seemed to re-balance her, and gave her the comfort and room to think about and listen to the conversations going on around her. The Bajoran, unsurprisingly, was quick and the first to name this an accident. Charlie's brows raised. She'd never met an accident on Kerelia, or a Cardassian that didn't deserve one. Standing off-side was the young girl Charlie had noticed holostreaming earlier. She'd been with a man, older. He'd offered to bring the crane down and free the hanged man, but that left the girl alone. "Hey, kid. How many unique followers ya got?" She asked, nodding toward Rimi's device in attempt to distract her from the scene before them. Charlie wasn't one to think coddling adults did anyone any good, but she'd had a very different upbringing to most children, and despite herself, she felt there was some things that probably should not be shown to the ill-prepared. "You're about to go viral." A myriad of potential headlines flashed through her mind and she began muttering dramatically. "Festival of Frights.
Hanging Loose on Kerelia.
Snakes on a Crane."It wrote itself, really.

{Quoted Posts} [ Shavan Th'zhaar - Colony, LZ-2, Kerelia] Shavan didn't know exactly what he was doing there, except that getting off the station and doing things like this was supposed to be healthy. So, even though he didn't know or care about Bajoran holidays, he went, just to get on with it and be doing something. He walked along at the back of the tour group, not paying much attention. Hanging back, he eventually gave up on listening and decided to go someplace quieter until the festival started. That was when he spotted Kova; she was one of the few people he could stand to be around right now, and seemed to be thinking along the same lines. He wasn't sure if he’d actually been fully sober since they got back from Caldonia. Silently, Shavan climbed up and took a seat on the pile of materials next to her. Noticing that she was looking at something else, he followed her gaze to the body hanging from the crane. Well. That was… something. As out of place as it might have been, he couldn’t really make himself feel anything. “That’s just typical, isn't it?” He suppressed a humorless laugh. She offered the flask to Shavan, unsure whethered he'd take it or not. It honestly made her no difference. Still, what she saw before her didn't go unnoticed. The Fleeters wasted no time rushing into action. Was it to preserve the innocence of their youth as so many claimed? Or was it to conceal their vulnerability? After all, this had happened on their watch. Perhaps this was their way to save face. Her eyes fell upon a pair of Bajorans. Older gentlemen. One of them she'd seen on the station. He sold hasperat on the promenade. Apazi... if she recalled correctly. Kova couldn't imagine that they cared too much about the loss of this Cardassian. If anything it tarnished their celebration. Probably something that would be suspended at this point. Besides, Starfleet had a way of dictating who what was and was not important. "I bet they try to call this an accident," Kova said as she brought the flask to her lips once more. "It's obvious that it's anything but an accident. It's a statement."

[Crewman Ezra Mora & Rimi Mora - On the tour, Colony, LZ-2, Kerelia] & "Aye, Captain," the crewman said affirming his identity. With Captain Eastman's blessing, he made a quick run towards the crane. Once inside the cab, it only took him a cursory glance of the controls to familiarize himself with the machine's operation. Within a few seconds, he had powered on the machine and began to lower the body to the ground. Ezra then shut the machine off and began to move towards the body. He'd seen a stack of tarps nearby, and thought it best to conceal as much of the scene from view as possible from the civilian onlookers. Taking one in hand, he began to undo the tarp, stretching it out a few meters and draping it in a fashion so that sight of the body was obscured from view. This would at least give Captain Eastman time to decide how to proceed. Though, she suspected that she'd turn those duties over to Lt. Niles, who Ezra had noticed was present. He lingered nearby in case there was something the lieutenant needed from him. His eyes then scanned the area for signs of Rimi. It was a bit more difficult to put eyes on her as the crowd began to coalesce to witness the sight before them. Being referred to as 'kid' was something that was becoming too much of a norm on this station. It was like people didn't bother to learn someone's name. Though, as Rimi looked up to see who had spoken to her, her eyes fell upon a woman with dark hair. At least Rimi seemed to exist to the woman. That was far more than she could say for her father at the moment. "What?" Rimi asked as she tried to process the question. Though, after a few seconds. "About... 830,000. But... this is a new account. My dad and therapist made me delete my old one."She then mentioned something about Rimi going viral. "Viral?" The thought hadn't actually occurred to her. She turned over her comm-unit and stared at the view counts and rising number of subscriptions. Her eyes widened, even as Charlie sounded off the potential hashtags to attach to this. "You're right. They... they want to see more!"

[ LT Joshua Niles - N 3rd St, Colony, LZ-2, Kerelia ]No sooner had he let out his foul exclamation that activity erupted around the tour group, and when a voice asked him if it really looked like what it was, Niles could barely contain his sneer, especially when he saw he was dealing with yet another Cardassian; and having seen enough dead bodies, he certainly could tell... "Unless you're not thinking it's a corpse hanging from a crane twenty meters off the deck, then you'd be correct."His own displeasure was echoed by Charlie, who looked... rough from her stay in Caldonian captivity. They'd not spoken since the return of those poor souls who'd been left behind at one Admiral Ellis' orders... and he certainly didn't know what to say. Sorry we left you behind, I wanted to come down to get you guys the hard way but it was out of my hands didn't seem like it would cut any ice with the reporter. Or anyone else for that matter. However, activity started when Crewman Mora spoke up, and with the Old Lady's blessing made his way for the crane's controls, and then she turned her attention to her Tactical Officer. Investigate. Of course. Well, so much of his leave time all right. "Aye Captain. I'll have to see if I can find so much as a tricorder down here. And cooperation from the locals to cordon off the site and..."He found himself interrupted by a child... whom he recognized from pictures he had seen: one of the Old Lady's grandchildren! And he had a rather... sticky question to ask no less. One that made it clear he'd been heard... and that he was known... somehow. "I... ah... that just slipped out. As for being holy... some fudge is just that good, you know?" [Eta Borir - Colony, Lz2, Karelia]
" Well fantastic," Eta muttered pressed and turned her head away from the man. After all, someone was talking to her here. She was not an empathic being, yet she felt the looks of those present - or the avoidance of them, like a cheap perfume on her skin. Monks, Bajorans, and a dead Cardassian, now it was truly a Bajoran feast. With one hand, the Cardassian grabbed the scales that covered her skin on the back of her neck and massaged them briefly before trying to identify the Cardassian. Looked a little like....an acquaintance of her father. Still, she couldn't think of the name. Her father often brought home other Cardassians on Terok Nor, however, Eta had not had the desire, nor the nerve, to remember all the names. But at least the reporter's question had been easy to answer, so she would have asked it. Contacts. Cardassia and Bajor must finally begin to work more closely together and let bygones be bygones. Still, 41 years and millions of dead Bajorans were very hard to forget. She let her gaze wander again, discovering people who were probably even more bored than she was. She spun around in a flash when she heard the Bajoran's voice. >>My hand didn't bleed before my knife slipped. You were not limping around like a bent grandfather last night << Eta could almost sing along with this stuff. The Bajoran's celebrations were certainly interesting and filled with a lot of religion, and yet they were more soporific than Doctor Baker's hypospray before an operation. [Capt. Judith Eastman(-Williams), PhD, Max Williams, & Michael Eastman - N 3rd St, LZ-2]At seven years of age, Michael was young enough to get away with this mispronunciation. However, as Judy had a feeling it was deliberate (if not by him than by Mabel, who loved to show the little boy around Grandma's work), she made a note to investigate it... once the death investigation was tended to. "Maybe we can get fudge together," Michael suggested obliviously. "Maybe later, sweetheart. Lt. Niles and Grandma have to work now," Judy declined, with a distinctly apologetic tone. She hated for family time with Michael to be interrupted like this, but at least the boy didn't fully grasp the situation, it seemed. She focused on the job. "Lieutenant, the locals answer to us right now, so what we say, goes. Do what you need, but don't stop the festival altogether," she ordered. The station and the colony had a fair bit riding on this event, as a follow-up to Galaxyvision that would show their tourist potential. Not to mention that, as a great respecter of religious and cultural traditions, Judy would hate to shut them down. Before moving on, Judy gave Max a quick kiss. Without needing words, they both understood the bargain it indicated. He'd watch the family, she'd tend to the situation, and this time, she'd stay out of danger. She walked swiftly towards where crewman Mora had lowered the body, and through her prescription sunglasses, observed it. Cardassian, male, elderly, corpulent; the decades had not been kind to this body, and today had not been kind to this soul. "We can perform an autopsy at the infirmary[fn]See map![/fn], but we'll have to move him. You got a good way to do that?" she asked. Meanwhile, Max noticed the youthful Cardassian standing next to Lt. Niles. "You must be new here," he said, making small-talk. "I'm Max, Captain Eastman's husband."He was curious why a Cardassian would be down here, for a Bajoran holiday of all things.

When the man started to strike up a conversation with her, Eta thought about what to say. Her small talk was really atrocious. But at least there were two people talking to her. It looked like she was going to break a record today. " Nice to meet you......... Max. My name is Eta. Eta Borir. Right, I'm new here," she introduced herself as well, grinning broadly, but avoiding directing the conversation to anything. It would surely end in disaster. __________________________________

[ Shavan Th'zhaar - Colony, LZ-2, Kerelia] Shavan accepted the flask, took a drink, and handed it back to Kova. Meanwhile, most people on the tour were panicking and rushing into action. In contrast, he felt absolutely no compulsion to get up and do… what, exactly? The dead man was, well, dead. There was no helping him. More people joining in would just add to the chaos. He leaned back and watched as they lowered the Cardassian. Kova was right; it was clearly no accident, but that might not matter when it came to saving face. "Yeah, probably," he agreed with a shrug. She said it was a statement, which was very clear. Though he had no reason to share the prejudice, he knew that lots of people hated Cardassians, Bajorans especially. “Not a very creative statement. It's almost too obvious.” So was it really that simple, or had whoever did it just wanted people to think that? Either way, there was no need to get involved. It was just a thought. Kova Sh'qaleq

[Paawin/Mazal Accommodation - Colony, LZ2, Kerelia] Sensing her Imzadi as he entered the living room, Leanna looked up and smiled as Riyo then took Aven from her. Making it a lot easier for her to see to Ari, rather than having to become a referee again. Raising children wasn't all rainbows and kittens or my little targs if you were to think of Ari. However Lea had definitely been fortunate when Riyo had entered their lives and now he got to share and experience all of the bad and the good. Even if it was cute as hell to hear Aven call him 'Dada', which sometimes made it difficult to show discipline. Riyo was definitely doing a good job as he got Aven's attention. Watching whilst Ari calmed down to see what her son would do, preparing for the inevitable cry, if he pulled his own hair. Aven seemed to hesitate as Ari decided to speak up. "Aven you better listen to Dad.. Riyo".Lea knew that Ari was trying and didn't blame her for that after what had happened with the man whose name was no longer spoken. Although that didn't mean that she didn't love Riyo any less than Aven. Said one year old then proceeded to pull his own hair and instead of crying, started laughing. " I think we're going to have our hands full with this one" Lea commented as Ari left her embrace to go fetch her my little targ.
Tag Jovireh Velal [Lt. Paawin Riyo - Kerelia Colony LZ-2 - Paawin/Mazal Accomodations]Riyo gave Ari a reassuring smile as she scolded her little brother, hoping that the girl knew he was alright with her calling him whatever she was most comfortable with. He had always known it would be harder for her to transition than Aven, since she was old enough to remember life before him. Chuckling softly at Aven's laughter after pulling his own hair, Riyo nodded in agreement with Lea's observation. "No one ever said parenting would be easy," he replied lightly. He turned his attention back to the boy he was holding, ruffling the kid's hair affectionately. "Yeah, you can go ahead and pull your own hair any time you want. But don't pull other peoples' hair." While waiting for Ari to grab her toy, he wandered over to the window, looking out at the tour group in the distance. Though he'd never been to Kerelia before, he'd decided against joining the tour, wanting to focus his attention on his family and the upcoming festival. Seeing them now, he was rather grateful he'd made that decision, as he watched people bustling around one of the locations still under construction. Part of him grew concerned, his brow furrowing slightly, as it didn't really look like normal tour activity. But unless he was called in, he wasn't going to let himself worry about it.

[Ens. Syl O'Connell - Kerelia - Colony N 3rd St.]Charlie began talking to one of the teenagers in the area, and Syl gave a wry grin as she listened. While she'd never had time for the social aspects of growing up, thanks to her parents' strict policies, she knew that a live recording of accidentally finding a body would spread like wildfire. "Go ahead," she chimed in as the girl seemed surprised that her followers wanted to see more of what was going on. "Let the galaxy see how Starfleet handles a crisis." The bitterness in her voice surprised even her, and she wasn't entirely certain which part of this situation brought it out of her. Emotional recognition was one of the many things that had been difficult for her since their return. Rather than dwell on whatever-it-was she was feeling, she turned her attention back to the bustling activity, glad that they finally got the corpse out of view. Even a Cardassian didn't deserve to be left dangling like that. Another reaction she wasn't expecting was the sudden rise of anxiety that gripped her chest as she watched. If you're upright, you can work! the voice echoed in her mind. Her hand rubbed across the scars on her throat once more, this time deliberately, reminding herself that the collar was gone. The shock wouldn't come, no matter what she did or didn't do. Taking a deep breath, she turned her back to the rest of the group, taking several steps away. Syl hated just how habitual being a slave had become. They had only been imprisoned for a month, and still she had a hard time reminding herself that things were different now. Perhaps the others had been right in their steady show of defiance. But there was nothing she could do about that now. Folding her hands behind her neck, she closed her eyes and forced herself to take deep, slow and steady breaths, fighting back the anxiety that was stubbornly clawing at her.

[Paawin/Mazal Accommodation - Colony, LZ2, Kerelia] Leanna had always known that they were in a unique situation and yet hoped that Riyo's reassurance would allow Ari to make her own choice as to what she would be comfortable with when addressing him. There was no rush though and all that really mattered was love and being a family. When her Imzadi then chuckled at Aven's antics before agreeing with her. He was right, it wasn't always easy, something that she had finally admitted to herself after trying to do everything and letting people in to help. " That's very true but it's nice to have someone else to share that with" she admitted with a smile as Riyo then spoke to Aven. Aven giggled and smiled in response, clearly happy with what was being said, even if he didn't understand it quite yet. Then came a glimmer of concern as he wandered over to the window. Whatever he had noticed didn't sit well with Lea, although Ari's return prevented her from going over immediately. So asked instead using their link, so as not to worry the children. " Is everything okay out there, what did you see?".

[ LT Joshua Niles - N 3rd St, Colony, LZ-2, Kerelia ]"Aye Captain," Niles answered as he assessed the immediate situation. True, on paper he was qualified for this, but it fell so far out of his sphere of true expertise regardless... But, one didn't get to pick and choose what they were to work on, so long as at least they had a piece of paper saying they were fit to accomplish the task at hand. "I don't think I'll have to shut down the whole festival, just the immediate area. Doctor Kelter will have to readjust her tour, but this area will have to be heavily restricted starting right now. As for an autopsy, I'd like to get a few raw scans first. Speaking of which..."Niles looked around for a while. He needed tools, specifically at least a tricorder. And, of course, being in civilian attire, the only piece of Starfleet technology he wore was his commbadge. And then, he saw one construction worker with one at his waist, and he beckoned him over, only to relieve him of that most useful portable sensor and computer platform. But, before he headed towards the crime scene with his borrowed, battered tricorder in hand, he had an idea. Charlie Fox was with the group, and already Olsen had been all over the victim, and he walked over to the journalist as she was in conversation with a young lady. "Pardon the interruption. Charlie, I was wondering if I might be able to shanghai Olsen for a little bit, just to get some detailed imagery of that particular area?"

Dima Emmari recognized the deceased, of course, but made no indication. His new friend Apazi Fellin did not, or if he did, also said nothing. It was Starfleet's and the Warp Age Design's problem now and the vedek would not let it interfere in their holy day any further. The Bajorans among the tour group showed a mix of emotions. Some had looks of pity or unconcealed contempt, whereas others seemed numb or unaffected having little more to give to the life of one Cardassian. None moved to help. "You'll forgive us if we spare no more of our time or attention in some display of grief. Bajor has dedicated more than enough of that to Cardassia and their trials," the vedek said to the Eastman and Keltner. She spotted a blue-skinned duo off to the side, talking. Charmable, perhaps, and definitely an excuse to get away from Murra's bloated corpse, and from this disaster. "Whew, what a day!" she announced her arrival. "Dr. Louisa Keltner, Warp Age Designs. And you are?"

[Eta Borir - 3rd St. Kerelia, LZ-2]
"Definitely," Eta replied, directing her gaze to the floor. When the young one started chatting, she smirked before lowering the corners of her mouth. " You know.... I....um....." She looked to Max for help as she realized she was probably on her own with her explanation. " I think....that" Eta took a deep breath. " No, I'm not going with the Bajorans. Not if I want to keep my head" Noticing the questioning look on the boy's face, she gave a brief strained puff before moving to eye level. " You know, a few hundred years ago" she began and swallowed. It was a difficult subject. " The Cardassians." " No, where do I start?" " Well, a few hundred years ago, Bajor and Cardassia co-exist peacefully. The Bajorans were a people full of artists and philosophers. A peaceful living people. And the world, was good. But Cardassia, the home planet of my people, was nutrient poor, and the Cardassians power hungry. The Cardassians were a people who were very militaristic, and often hostile to aliens. They conquered a lot of planets, mainly to get new resources, so that they have a balance to the nutrient-poor planet Cardassia Prime. And at some point, my people discovered that the Bajorans had great resources. Plant and architectural, as well as incredible amounts of minerals, which the Cardassians, also needed. " Now came probably the part that was hardest to explain. Especially, without assuming position for Bajorans, or Cardassians. She wanted to remain neutral, and offer the boy the opportunity to form his own opinion. " The Cardassians of that time, viewed the Bajorans as inferior life forms. After they...had a military presence on that planet for ten years, they finally annexed and enslaved the Bajorans in 2328. Since the Bajorans....how shall I say....were not as advanced as the Cardassians, only technically of course, there was no war. The planet was annexed with almost no resistance." She decided not to elaborate further on the occupation. He was still small, and what exactly was done there he didn't need to know. Finally, she smiled apologetically. "And since then, Bajorans hate Cardassians, and most Cardassians hate...no....don't like Bajorans. " She said pressed and looked at Max again. She hoped she had explained that correctly. She had no experience with children.

[Crewman Ezra Mora & Rimi Mora - On the tour, Colony, LZ-2, Kerelia] [...]Being referred to as 'kid' was something that was becoming too much of a norm on this station. They... they want to see more!" [Ens. [...] [Charlie Fox - Crane Street, LZ-2, Kerelia]"Nice," came Charlie's response to the number, which admittedly was far more than she had initially expected. She arched a brow at the mention of the girl being forced to delete her account, curious as to the reason why. It couldn't be a reason that was relevant any more, since she had quite obviously created a new one. The loss of the original seemed an unnecessary waste. Syl's words sparked a smirk from Charlie, despite their circumstances. She glanced at the other woman, knowing she should probably be concerned at the cynicism - or was it bitterness? - but finding herself unable to disagree with the sentiment. There was a time when her opinion of the Fleet was an unusual one, but slowly, surely, it seemed others were discovering what truly lurked behind the orders and burocracy. "Those stories always make for high numbers," she agreed with Syl, then turned back to Rimi to encourage the girl a little. "Of course they want to see more, this is the most interesting, most real thing your viewers will see all year. Talk to them, engage, be their voice on the ground."Charlie whipped out her personal PADD and was adding herself to the girl's legion of followers, when Joshua Niles approached. She glanced up from her screen, then back down again until he spoke. [ LT Joshua Niles - N 3rd St, Colony, LZ-2, Kerelia ][...]But, before he headed towards the crime scene with his borrowed, battered tricorder in hand, he had an idea. Charlie Fox was with the group, and already Olsen had been all over the victim, and he walked over to the journalist as she was in conversation with a young lady. "Pardon the interruption. Charlie, I was wondering if I might be able to shanghai Olsen for a little bit, just to get some detailed imagery of that particular area?" She lifted one shoulder in a lopsided shrug. "Sure." She took a moment to try and discern how she felt about Niles after they'd all been left by the crew of the Mac to die in a prison. It wasn't a question she could answer straight away. She'd been abandoned, but he'd also fed her cat, and Dante wasn't the friendliest creature. She brought up Olsen's UI on her PADD, then raised her hand in a signal to the drone. "Transfer of any recorded data will require admin approval." Meaning he couldn't copy anything without her say-so. She'd learned that one the hard way. She tapped out a string of commands and then passed the handheld over. She appeared to be only one on the tour who had bothered to bring anything useful, and would have to share with others. "Wanna drive?"From peripheral vision, she caught the flutter of loose clothing and robes as the Bajorans moved off, full of a quiet indignation she thought she'd like to master one day.

She had no experience with children. [NPCs - Max Williams & Michael Eastman - N 3rd St, LZ-2]Michael took a moment to process this information. As the product of a practicing Jewish household, he had a particular lens through which to process this. He'd only learned about it in very broad strokes (and more importantly, from his parents), but... "That sounds like the Holocaust."Max gradually turned bright red. He could already see the fury he'd get from the boy's parents when they found out he'd been discussing genocide with a stranger at a murder scene. And as justifiable as the comparison between Nazi Germany and Cardassia might be, he didn't know how Eta would react to it. "Maybe we can find some way to help Grandma," he suggested, almost begging to move on. "What is it you do, Eta?"Michael seemed to realize the topic was making his grandpa uncomfortable, so he didn't elaborate on the comparison.

[ Eta Borir - 3rd St. Kerelia, Lz-2] Eta frowned (as far as you can call it frowning with her forehead architecture), and open her mouth, but briefly brought out nothing more than a croak. " Holocaust," she repeated silently. Was she supposed to be telling the truth? No, he was still young. Too young. As for the details of the Cardassian occupation, he'll still learn in school as soon as the teachers deem him old enough. In general, religion was a tricky subject (especially as a Cardassian, when you don't really deal with earthly religion), and Eta didn't want to say anything wrong. She decided to go with Max's question for now. " Yes, helping will probably be the best thing for now". She decided not to mention that according to the Cardassian religion it was delicate to remove a dead Cardassian as not Cardassian. It would dishonor the dead if non Cardassian saw his remains. Still, they were not on Cardassia, and there were no other Cardassians here to help with the removal. Now for another question..... What was she doing here? She did not elaborate. ______________________________________________________ Judith Eastman
