{Spoiler}{Spoiler}{Quoted Posts} [NPCs - Max Williams & Michael Eastman - N 3rd St, LZ-2]When Eta demonstrated the malfunctioning tricorder, Max had a gut feeling it wasn't just a coincidence. Tricorders didn't just happen to get it wrong like this, nor did they happen to be hidden at the scene of what might just be a crime. "I'll message her."MW: We found a tricorder MW: under traffic cones MW: malfunctioning JEW: Okay. JEW: Maybe related? MW: maybe JEW: I'll send someone to look into it MW: thanks honey MW: love you JEW: love you more "She's sending someone," he reported to Eta. Michael stood back. He wanted to use the malfunctioning tricorder as a toy, to see what other ludicrous results it would give, but he knew that wouldn't be prudent. [Capt. Judith Eastman(-Williams), PhD - N 3rd St., LZ-2]As Ezra worked, Judy briefly corresponded with her incomparable husband. She didn't like that he hadn't gone back home, but she knew he was a grown-ass man who could take care of himself (and her, when she allowed him to). MW: We found a tricorder MW: under traffic cones MW: malfunctioning JEW: Okay. JEW: Maybe related? MW: maybe JEW: I'll send someone to look into it MW: thanks honey MW: love you JEW: love you more And there came Ezra. "I know one such person who's on hand, but there's no telling if she'll cooperate. In the meantime, my husband over there found a suspicious tricorder you can look at," she directed, pointing out the area down the street where she saw Max's silver hair. Next order of business. =A= "Eastman to Niles. Someone with admin-level access tampered with this crane's access log. Question Keltner about it.
Oh, and... try to control access to the scene here." =A= One down, one to go. This would be the tough one. =A= "Eastman to Sh'qaleq. The crane here, the... possible murder weapon, was... tampered with, by someone high up the ladder, and... suffice it to say, we could... well, we really need your skills to look at the log. Could you please help us out?" =A= With stammering, pauses, and a timid tone, the Captain's request was calibrated, fine-tuned, to appeal to the Andorian's sense of superiority, since that seemed like the only remaining way to access her. [ Shavan Th’zhaar - Colony, LZ-2, Kerelia] Where do you go when you can’t go home? It was a question Shavan was all too familiar with. Keep going forward, and don’t look back was the only answer he had. While he might not choose this colony as the place to do so, he understood what Kova meant. Shaken from those thoughts, he turned to the human woman as she took the invitation to keep talking. Feedback on the tour they clearly hadn’t been participating in? And then… huh. He wasn’t embarrassed or annoyed when she assumed Kova was his girlfriend. People could make whatever false assumptions they wished; he didn’t owe her an explanation of the truth. However, at Kova’s more startled reaction he couldn’t resist smirking a little, not letting the subject go quite so fast. "But we're what?” he asked teasingly. It wasn’t like he'd never thought of her that way at all, and he didn’t think the attraction was one-sided. And then, Kova’s communicator went off, in a reminder of how they had always seemed to be interrupted whenever they got anywhere close to acting on it. Of course, the part about a career outside of Starfleet hadn't escaped his interest either. Shavan had already made the choice to stay, but it couldn’t hurt to hear her out. “I'm willing to listen,” he called after Knelter while Captain Eastman spoke to Kova. [NPC - Louisa Keltner, PhD - N 3rd St, LZ-2]From the protesting remarks, Louisa could tell she was just a little off the mark. Attraction not yet acted upon was a hell of a thing, unless one had gotten too addicted to the sexual tension inherent in it, but... that wasn't her problem. When they took the bait, she turned on her heels to face them again. "We're always looking for new blood and new talent. In the private sector, you can get the sort of intellectual challenges that Starfleet won't give you, you get paid what you're worth, and we, Warp Age Designs, give you a change of scenery with every project, if that's your thing," she opened her elevator pitch. If it worked, great! If it didn't, she had other spins. And though the female seemed to have been called off on some Starfleet business, maybe her possible-future-boyfriend could convince her later. [Ens. Syl O'Connell - Kerelia - Colony N 3rd St.]Lt. Niles certainly seemed to be going out of his way to be nice to Charlie. It was par for the course. Since they came back, everyone who had been at that summit was being particularly nice to them. Everyone knew they deserved their anger, but no one wanted to face it. This was no different, with how delicately he was asking Charlie for help, and how clearly he thanked her. And just like everyone else, he acted like Syl wasn't there. That had also been par for the course. They came back, and she had immediately disappeared. She was the only one that no one had missed. While she knew it was because she didn't have time to make friends before, it still stung. Syl crossed her arms tightly in front of her, and felt herself stepping away from them again. Perhaps they should have done what Kova had suggested and found somewhere to disappear. Her gaze turned towards where the Andorians were sitting, considering joining them, when she saw them talking to the woman that had been leading the tour. Nope, she wasn't going over there either. The tip of one fingernail scraped against the edge of another as she felt the anxiety start to build once more. {Spoiler}{Spoiler}[Charlie Fox - Crane St., LZ-2, Kerelia]
Charlie was having too hard a time trying to keep a snort of laughter in, so she gave up and let it loose. The exchange between Josh and the burgeoning commentator was just tickling her funny bone, and truth was, it had been a while since she'd properly laughed. She thought that maybe she could see a much younger version of herself in the girl, though she'd never say such a thing, grave insult as it was. "That's the question we need to be asking," she said eventually when Rimi pointed out that the Cardassian war criminal certainly did not belong here with the Bajorans, celebrating a Bajoran holiday. She glanced down at the information readout on her PADD, which was scrolling through what was publicly available on Murra's record. Naturally, it was as holey as a good Swiss cheese. "An engineer of some renown, he was picked up on Cardassia Prime and put to work for the other side - safe enough amongst humans it seems. He's been working for Warp Age Design. Or rather, he was working for Warp Age Design."Her eyes scanned the crowd which had dwindled dramatically, searching for Keltner. When Charlie caught sight of her making friends with the Andorians, her gaze narrowed. "Sure thing," she muttered to Josh, finally acknowledging his request for the data. With a couple of taps, she transferred what Olsen had mapped to his tricorder. Then she began moving off, attention captured by something elsewhere. It seemed that she was going to be doing some real work, after all. So much for leave. Syl had gone quiet and seemed away, in a world of her own. It was an expression Charlie recognised not just on the other woman, but often when she looked at herself in the mirror these days. She waved and arched a brow, signaling that she was welcome to follow if she wanted, and then wandered off. [ LT Joshua Niles - N 3rd St, Colony, LZ-2, Kerelia ]Well, it would seem that teenage would-be reporter did have some interesting questions to ask all right, and Charlie, well, she'd definitely encouraged her along. And while the situation was indeed serious, he certainly could take a few moments to clarify where he stood. Which, truth be told, was far, far different from what he would have said when he had first stepped aboard the Front Ear from the USS Fawkes, what felt a lifetime ago. "I'm not 'insisting' on anything. Miss Fox tends to have some very good information, and while I'm still required to find confirmation of that, I'm willing to take it as fact. And right now, I have no idea what the events really are about beyond a dead body with a firm but still tentative identification found hanging from a crane. I can't shape a narrative, as you said, with just that. I can come up with all kinds of conjecture, but without facts, that's just hot air."It wasn't hard to tell he was being recorded either. That comm unit in her hand spoke volumes while it was hardly making a sound. Of course, he could ask he to turn it off... but there really was no harm in letting her do what she willed, to some degree. And, for one who was so worried about spin, it might not hurt to let her actually record an impartial process. Even though one Joshua Niles was not particularly broken up over the death of a Cardassian, let alone one who was very likely, if not certainly, a war criminal. "And, by the way, you aren't exactly subtle with your recording. Now, I'm not about to stop you from documenting anything you might like; and personally I have absolutely no problems with it. I just need you to stay off the crime scene proper, not put anyone, yourself included, at risk, and that you might have to share your raw take with Starfleet Security at some point; not surrender, share. Beyond that, all of it is yours, unless somehow this case crosses the line into classified matters, at which point we may have confiscate parts of your recording but that is a very, very last resort, all right?"Having hopefully addressed all of the teenager's concerns, he turned his attention to his tricorder, while Charlie spoke about both the dead Cardassian, and confirmed that Olsen's footage would be sent to his borrowed tricorder, which beeped obligingly when the imagery made its way into its memory banks. Just in time for his commbadge to chirp, with orders from Captain Eastman. =A= "Aye Captain. I'll see what I can do to quarantine the site; I already took the liberty of surveying and scanning it as much as possible, so if we have to deal with contamination, it should be pretty straightforward. And I'll let you know what I get from the good Doctor. Niles out."=A= With that said, the Lieutenant took a deep breath, and made his way towards Doctor Keltner. Well, good thing that at least on paper he was qualified for basic security investigations, though it was not his specialty. But he far preferred dealing with poring over sensor records, than trying to wring information out of people. But, that didn't mean he was going to do any less than his level best. "Doctor Keltner? I'm Lieutenant Joshua Niles, Starfleet Security." As he spoke, he reached into his pocket and withdrew his Fleet credentials; what with being in civilian attire, the only thing identifying him as connected to Starfleet was his commbadge (and even then it was questionable, given that civilians were sometimes issued those when working on ships or starbases), and he wasn't about to make a basic procedural error as failing to properly identify himself. "First things first, I would need to ensure that the site is quarantined; all work in the immediate area is to stop, and if you have any construction site access control personnel, I need you to call them in and ensure that no one enters it without direction from Captain Eastman or myself."Well, that was one part of his immediate mandate addressed, now there was the actually fun part he had to handle. "One of our technicians has already looked the crane over, and it would seem the usage log has been tampered with by someone with administrator-level access. Could you shed some light as to who could have done this, and provide us with the encryption keys so we can ascertain who did it? Furthermore, the dead body has been tentatively identified as a Doctor Veho Murra who is considered a war criminal. Precisely how did such a man wind up in your employ?" [Eta Borir, 3rd St. , LZ-2, Kerelia]
Eta nodded and lifted her mouth a few millimeters. Max seemed somehow to belong to the more pleasant sort of contemporaries.
Groaning stiffly, the Cardassian dropped onto the nearest rock and watched as the body was dragged off. Her eyes darted curiously over the other people as she waited for the person who was to look at this tricorder. [ Kova Sh'qaleq - N 3rd St., Colony, LZ-2, Kerelia] Kova wasn't in the habit of explaining herself. Perhaps that was why she had only said as much as she had to Dr. Keltner. That, and apparently, dwelling among humans had proved that their habits of over-share were infectious. Yet, hearing Shava's query caused her eyes to move towards his. We're what?... he had asked. She stared into his eyes, as she turned the question itself over in her head. Was he actually pressing her for an answer on the spot? For just a moment, the faintest curl in her lips appeared as she answered him coyly. "Nothing interesting, presently."Her words seemed to linger between them until her communicator chimed, followed by the sound of Captain Eastman's voice. The Andorian almost suspected that someone had been listening in and decided on that very moment to interrupt. Fate, if you believed in such a thing, seemed content to pry them apart. Kova didn't feel that she owed Eastman anything. The temptation to just drop her communicator and walk away (with Shavan) to learn more about this opportunity was very appealing. Yet, her hand had reached up to press the badge, likely out of habit. =A= "What?" =A= was the Andorian's reply. Kova listened as the need for her presence was explained over the comm. In the back of her head, she couldn't help but wonder: What would they do if I were still in the Pit on Caldonia? This was the moment. She could respond loudly and clearly and tell Eastman to go to hell. It was so simple. Of course, life had never been that simple for Kova. This wasn't something that could be done over the comm. It needed to be in person. Her eyes continued to watch Shavan as he spoke with Keltner. =A= "I'm coming to you," =A= she replied. Begrudgingly, Kova left... leaving Shavan and Keltner to their discussion of opportunities Warp Age Design could offer. The Andorian was able to stew in her frustrations as she approached Eastman. With Eastman in view, Kova began to speak as she got closer, hardly feeling the need to be discrete or quiet. "Care to explain why I should give a damn about any of this?" Kova asked. "Because every time I do give a damn, it comes back to bite me in the ass! It happened at the Academy. It happened on Caldonia. Who's to say this time won't be any different?"

[Crewman Ezra Mora - N 3rd St., Colony, LZ-2, Kerelia] After reporting what he discovered from the logs, Captain Eastman presented Ezra with yet another technical mystery. Apparently a tricorder had been found. It seemed a little mundane, but who was he to argue. "Aye, Captain," he said as he moved towards the man and Cardassian woman that he pointed out. Ezra took a deep breath as he approached the pair. As he reached them, he looked between the two. "Excuse me. I'm Ensign Mora. The Captain sent me over here. Said you two found a suspicious tricorder," he stated. His eyes settled on the device. From a glance a lone, it didn't seem 'suspicious.' "Mind if I take a look at it?"

[ Rimi Mora - Crane St., Colony, LZ-2, Kerelia] The laughter that escaped Charlie's lips was unexpected. At first, Rimi wondered if it was at her expense, but got the impression that it wasn't. Besides, Charlie pointed out that Rimi was asking the 'right' question. A slight smile of pride began to spread across her lips. Apparently, this Morra guy worked for Warp Age Designs. Her eyes quickly found the logo on some of the surrounding containers. "But... those are the guys that have been working on the colony," she said, stating the obvious. Her mind was rapidly at work. A Cardassian war criminal was working on a colony... on the eve of a Bajoran festival... and wound up dead. Rimi was pulled form her musings by Lt. Niles as he felt the need to man-splain the situation to her. How, he wasn't controlling the narrative nor had he forced Charlie to give him the information from his drone. He also pointed out that he knew that he was being recorded and that while he wasn't confiscating her comm-unit... he could if she stumbled across something she wasn't supposed to. Rimi's eyes narrowed as he moved on to terrorize someone else. "Sounds like controlling the narrative to me!" she called after him. Rimi looked around and realized that the other adults seemed to have moved away. Rimi rolled her eyes. "Adults and their baggage," she said softly. She then lifted her comm-unit and began to speak into it towards her followers. "Seems like the best place to find a suspect begins with the most obvious place." Rimi looked around the colony, trying to figure out exactly where the most likely murderer... or murderers had gone. "Where did those Bajorans go?" Rimi set off to find those ridge-nosed believers in wormhole gods. And yet, somehow she was envious that they actually felt comfortable enough to believe in something more than themselves. Many of them had lived and died through the utter hell of the Occupation. And still, their faith was strong. Burdoned with her own tragedies, Rimi just couldn't fathom how that sort of devotion to anyone.

[ Vedek Dima Emmari, Apazi Fellin | LZ-2, town square ] Those Bajorans who'd accompanied the vedek on the tour had now followed him back to the settlement square, the center of the Ha'mara celebrations. The town square was a rustic and earnest interpretation of the main Ha'mara setting back on Bajor. The spartan settlement space, itself a work in progress, was a scaffold for Bajoran banners bearing messages from scripture, memorials for the beloved dead, and a variety of altars and spaces for reflection. Bajoran vendors were taking advantage of the event and were selling home-wares to their farflung kind - food, clothing, art, plants, trinkets, and the like. At the center was a large brazier - it would be cold until sundown when it would be lit as the focal point for a feast. There was still two hours until the next official event, so Vedek Dima and the others were free to mingle. Vedek Dima and Apazi Fellin had remained in conversation, taking up space on a pair of benches under an awning. Fellin was filling in Vedek Dima on how things were for Bajorans on the station. "If I was looking to find a place where my hasperat would be appreciated, then I find the right corner of the quadrant," he joked. "Appreciated and uncriticized!" the Vedek countered slyly. Fellin laughed. "That too, that too! I suppose if one travels far enough, even mashed ichlotti in a wet ghizi would taste like home. Mmmhmm." "Ah, you didn't say you had hasperat ichlotti! I'm tempted to break my fast, Prophets guide me..." the Vedek chuckled. "A dead Cardassian has not ruined your appetite?" Fellin asked, unable to simply forget about the incident. The Vedek's smile faltered for just a moment then he shrugged. "Never has before. No, I don't think anyone will mourn that extinguished lantern." [fn]Let's say this is a reference to a Bajoran parable about hanging lanterns left in trees after a party to burn out on their own.[/fn]

Eta had actually enjoyed the quiet minutes, and drew in the air as if she had been diving for ten minutes. She was tired, and socializing was one of the things that usually tired her even more. When the man approached her, she stood up. The Cardassian woman looked briefly at Max to see if he would take the lead, and then back at Ensign Mora before nodding.
"Right" she just said with a sigh and tossed the tricorder to the human, but was careful not to drop it on the floor. Though that certainly wouldn't make a difference anymore either. Slowly she walked back to her stone and sat down again. Standing consumes energy unnecessarily.

[ Shavan Th’zhaar - Colony, LZ-2, Kerelia] Shavan watched Kova go with a faint smile, that quickly vanished as Niles interrupted the conversation with Keltner as well without any acknowledgment that she had been talking to someone else. Typical. However, what the security officer said did not entirely escape his notice; the dead Cardassian was a war criminal and had worked for Keltner. Well, she had just tried to pitch a career at Warp Age Designs to him and Kova without knowing so much as their names, let alone confirming that they actually had the skills for it… or that they weren't criminals. The idea had even sounded appealing. Maybe too much so. “She was just trying to recruit me, just because I happened to be here to listen. It sounds like Warp Age Designs is desperate for people, no matter who they are. I wonder why.” He waited for Keltner’s reaction, but still kept one eye on Kova's retreating form. tag Joshua Niles Judith Eastman soft tag Kova Sh'qaleq

[Ens. Syl O'Connell - Kerelia - Colony N 3rd St.]A movement caught her eye, and Syl glanced over to see Charlie waving at her before she moved off. The young pilot hurried a few steps to catch up to her. While she didn't know where they were going... it was better than standing around by herself. Kova was also wandering off, straight towards the crime scene, and Syl wondered if she had gotten roped into helping with the investigation as well. For once she was glad that her own particular set of skills weren't very useful in a situation like this. They had no reason to ask for her help. Lt. Niles had moved on and was talking to Keltner... Shavan didn't seem desperate to leave that engagement, so she didn't bother trying to wave him over. Then there was that girl that had been recording everything. The adolescent budding journalist also wandered off, likely in search of more of the story. This was supposed to be a vacation, a reprieve from the stress and trauma that seemed never ending, but Syl definitely wasn't feeling any better than she had on the station. "Hopefully the Bajorans are still able to enjoy their festival," she said to Charlie, trying to take her mind off the whirlwind of emotions that still threatened to choke her.

Judith Eastman(-Williams), PhD - N 3rd St., LZ-2]Unusually for her, young Ms. Sh'qaleq exuded genuine righteous anger, the type that came from genuine hurt, layered on top of the usual default anger. She took a deep breath. "I know you're pissed off at the fleet, and at me in particular. I know you blame me for what happened on Caldonia, and you have every right to; I blame myself sometimes, and not a day goes by that I don't question what happened that day. I won't ask you to care, not about me, not about Starfleet, and not about this Cardassian, because I have no right to ask that of you. If you'd like this to be purely transactional, or if you want to walk away, then that is your right."Her soft voice trembling slightly, the vulnerability and regret Judy expressed were genuine. Whether that was worth anything to Kova as a reason to care, or as reinforcement for her smugness, was beyond the captain's control.

My wife, the Captain, has been in Starfleet for a long time, and I've seen the kind of damage that bumps and falls do to a tricorder, but I've never seen this," he explained. "Usually they just give complicated error messages that Grandma doesn't like," Michael cut in, offering the kind of info that was novel to a child, but common knowledge for a professional member of the fleet.

[Lt. Paawin Riyo - Kerelia Colony LZ-2 - Infirmary]"Fact before conjecture, Mr. Rif." Riyo stated firmly. If the nurse was going to attempt to do more than was asked of him, the doctor would at least make sure he did it right. After the remaining clothes were peeled away, he pointed to the dark bruising all across the man's front, particularly dark in the head, upper body and legs. "This discoloration shows the position he was in when the blood stopped flowing. Face-down, doubled-over at the waist."He moved up to inspect the bruise on the neck Rif had pointed out. "Difficult to discern the shape through the other bruising, but it's larger than a rope would cause. Hand of an adult male, perhaps. See if you can get any prints off it." It was rare that prints could be lifted from bodies, but occasionally investigators got lucky. Riyo carefully drew a sample of DNA and set the computer to screen it for identification and possible toxins. "Lieutenant, go ahead and inform the Captain we're looking at either an accident, or foul play." Accident seemed unlikely, but judging by the position in which he had died the doctor felt safe completely ruling out suicide. [NPCs - Lt. j.g. Mabel Henriksen & Simkha Rif - Infirmary, Colony, LZ-2]Mabel noted this on her PADD, but didn't hit send yet. It seemed to her that "accident or foul play" didn't rule much of anything out, so she'd wait with disrupting her busy boss until she had more, or until she knew there wasn't more to be had. Simkha, not exactly the most easygoing of people, didn't appreciate the chastening. If the doctor didn't want his brain, he wouldn't have it, just an automaton to do his bidding. He attempted to lift prints off the neck, failed, but found something else. "No prints, but I found some traces of a compound here. Looks like... latex rubber derived from... I won't try to pronounce it, but a Bajoran tree. Bajoran latex gloves."He couldn't help it. His brain ran at its own speed, and good guesses were a part of that. Mabel waited for the doctor to take a look before she did anything about this.

[ LT Joshua Niles - N 3rd St, Colony, LZ-2, Kerelia ]With that said, the Lieutenant took a deep breath, and made his way towards Doctor Keltner. Precisely how did such a man wind up in your employ?" [ Shavan Th’zhaar - Colony, LZ-2, Kerelia] Shavan watched Kova go with a faint smile, that quickly vanished as Niles interrupted the conversation with Keltner as well without any acknowledgment that she had been talking to someone else. [NPC - Louisa Keltner, PhD - N 3rd St, LZ-2]Louisa quickly went from taken aback, to casually amused, by this green junior stiff's tirade. He didn't have a clue, and neither did the hybrid who'd just flipped on her so fast. "Kid, take a piece of advice: the more you talk, the less you're heard. When you say so much, the words go over my head," she advised sweetly, fake as ever. "I don't even remember most of what you said, but Veho Murra was assigned to us by Starfleet Intelligence 5 years ago. I hate to speak ill of the dead, but he was more trouble than he was worth."Murra's greatest talents included getting in the way and making things more complicated than they had to be. Louisa Keltner wouldn't miss him.

And just now, one Joshua Niles realized precisely what some he had overheard had meant about the nightmare of dealing with civilian contractors. This Doctor Keltner was clearly not going to be much help about anything, and prying information and cooperation out of her that she didn't want to provide was going to be akin to pulling hen's teeth (whatever that particular saying might mean). But that saccharine and thoroughly artificial tone of hers just rubbed him the wrong way and he could feel the hairs at at the back of his neck stand up on end like the hackles of a wary dog. But what she had to say about Doctor Murra, that caught his attention. Starfleet Intelligence? That was something he would have to bring up quickly; whatever involvement was at hand, he'd not been read into it. Hell, even if he had the clearance for it, the need to know might still not have existed where he was concerned; after all, he was just an expert in starship combat systems and tactics, not a spook. But, he clearly had a sense that she really had no particularly unpleasant feelings about speaking ill of the dead Cardassian. But since trying to be polite about things just got the putatively good Doctor Keltner to just ignore him and avoid dealing with stickier points, then he was simply going to make things much clearer, and if she didn't like the fact he didn't sugar-coat things and ask with all sorts or pretty pleases with cherries on top only to take more of her attitude, that would become her problem. "Since I really don't like repeating myself, Doctor, I'm going to be direct. Quarantine the site. Now. All works stops until the Captain releases the scene. If you have security people, they work for me as of right now and they will make sure no one gets on that site without the Captain or my say-so. Second, some of the access logs for the crane have been encrypted using admin-level locks. You will tell me who has that access, and provide me with their encryption keys. If you choose not to, I can have you charged with obstruction. Any questions so far?"

As unexpected as Keltner’s answer had been, when weighed against the annoyance of being ignored, and the investigation that was taking over the area, Shavan decided that he did not really care enough to keep listening. He was not on duty, and whatever was going on was none of his concern. It was past time to find somewhere else to be.
While Keltner and Niles were still talking, he got up and walked away in the opposite direction from the crime scene. He had seen Syl and Charlie going off somewhere together; maybe he'd run into them. There was also the crowd of Bajorans that had left for the festival site. While there may be a vast cultural difference in how Orions and Bajorans actually defined a festival, it surely had to be better than hanging around back there.

color"Fact before conjecture, Mr.

Paawin Riyo - Kerelia Colony LZ-2 - Infirmary]Riyo's brow furrowed at the description of the substance left behind on the man's neck. He knew what it all looked like, and that made him certain it was not what it looked like. But he had to keep that opinion to himself, and report the facts for the investigators to decide what to do with. "Very good," he muttered absently to the nurse. The computer would log the exact material, he wasn't concerned about that. A beep from the console drew his attention back to the DNA sample, and his lip curled into a sneer as he read the information. "DNA confirms identity as Veho Murra." He didn't need to read the file, he knew that name well. Instead of representing the crimes committed against his people... the man on his table had actively participated in and orchestrated those crimes. Taking a deep breath, he tore his gaze away from the screen. It would take a few more minutes for the tox screen to come back. He still had an autopsy to complete. With the initial visual examination done, he opened the Cardassian's torso to begin the examination of the internal organs. It didn't take long for him to confirm cause of death - the damage was quite extensive. "Cause of death was cardiac arrest and asphyxiation. Caused by being suspended face-down." Still didn't determine if it was an accident or murder, but unless the man had a reason to be standing on top of the crane with the strap around his waist in the middle of the night, then it seemed accident was unlikely. But he followed his own advice and kept his conjecture to himself, continuing the exam with his features as emotionless as he could keep them.

"Now, because I think you're really trying here, I'll walk you to my office, and once I can confirm that you have actual authority, we can do everything you talked about, one thing at a time, okay, buddy?"

Simkha did quite the opposite, coming closer to examine with a tricorder. "Doesn't look healthy even from before. He's had two quadruple bypasses, and he was heavy. I don't think he lasted very long up there," he speculated. "Doctor, can you estimate how long he was up there before he died?" Mabel asked. That kind of detail was helpful in investigations.

[ LT Joshua Niles - N 3rd St, Colony, LZ-2, Kerelia ]"It is Leftenant, Doctor,", he replied through his teeth, falling back into the Canadian pronunciation for his rank in the process, no less. And just then, he remembered that while he had withdrawn the slender wallet that carried indeed his Starfleet identity card, he'd not presented it. And so, he did just so, clearly displaying name, rank, and Starfleet Security markings. "Now, will these do, or do you need more? And unless I am sorely mistaken, you have a tricorder, so no need for a PADD."Assuming, of course, that this bloody woman would actually accept that Kerelia was still under Starfleet's jurisdiction and she was not one of those who would insist on dealing with only officers of command rank or higher due to their own inflated sense of self-importance. Once thing for certain, he was ready to bet she wouldn't have dared do the same with Commander Aune and that Senior Chief Melinh would have been able to quell her with just a withering glare. And he was getting thoroughly tired of wasting time; perhaps criminal investigations were not his forte, but he certainly did know that every second a scene was not secure, was an opportunity for critical evidence to be compromised, or removed.

[Bajoran Festival - Colony] A trip to any planet or festival wouldn't be complete without a little shopping and Leanna always favoured the more traditional of stalls were you could purchase one of a kind items and other trinkets. So of course she had made a beeline for the stalls that had been set up for the festival. Immersing herself fully in the atmosphere of the people, glad that the news of the body hadn't fully reached their ears yet. Having the double stroller also served another purpose as her purchases of traditional foods, clothes and other items of interest were stored underneath, leaving room for more if needed. But for now it was time to sit down, especially with both children happily eating jumja sticks, a favourite of Ari's and just absorb everything that was going on. Of course Lea knew that there was more to come and she was looking forward to it. Acknowledging those she passed with a polite nod or smile, Lea parked the stroller and took both children out, to let them finish eating and burn some energy off. Realising that she wasn't sat too far away from Vedek Emmari and Fellin, Leanna greeted them with a wave as Aven dropped his jumja stick.

[ Shavan Th’zhaar - Colony, LZ-2, Kerelia] As unexpected as Keltner’s answer had been, when weighed against the annoyance of being ignored, and the investigation that was taking over the area, Shavan decided that he did not really care enough to keep listening. He was not on duty, and whatever was going on was none of his concern. It was past time to find somewhere else to be. While there may be a vast cultural difference in how Orions and Bajorans actually defined a festival, it surely had to be better than hanging around back there. [Charlie Fox - Crane St., LZ-2, Kerelia]"Oh, I'm sure they're just heartbroken over it," Charlie quipped in response to Syl, her tone dripping with sarcasm and her lips curled upward. "Inconsolable. Crying a wormhole full of tears into their hasperat."She made another hand gesture in the air, and Olsen remained behind, transmitting the exchange between Josh and Keltner as Charlie and Syl moved away from the scene. She held out her PADD between them, so that her companion could watch with her, if she was interested. "Seems like she wasn't sleeping with the Cardy, after all," Charlie observed when Keltner spoke about her personal feelings toward the dead engineer. She was almost disappointed. Then, as the conversation continued, she groaned and lowered her hand. "Listening to those two measure their members is just painful, Syl," she moaned. She wished she could just leave it alone. She wished she could just wander off and forget she'd seen that body hanging from the crane. Unfortunately for Charlie, and for most people who knew her, she just wasn't built that way. When she saw Shavan wander away and approach via Olsen's feed on the PADD's screen, she reached out to slow Syl. "Hold up, here's Shavan."When the Andorian caught up, she called out to him. "Kova get pulled in?" She asked by way of greeting, then she pointed toward the plaza. "Let's go see if they've anything that'll get us drunk."It was truly what she felt like doing, but going to the plaza served multiple purposes, and she hoped she'd get a chance to have a chat with that Wolf Priest. For academic purposes, of course.

[Lt. Paawin Riyo - Kerelia Colony LZ-2 - Infirmary]Riyo contemplated the question for a moment, trying to recall what he knew about Cardassian durability. He likely lasted longer than a Bajoran or Human, but that wasn't saying much. "Judging by the spread of the bruising around his waist, he survived long enough to struggle. But given his size and weight... He couldn't have survived any longer than thirty minutes before his heart and lungs were crushed. Given the prior weakness of his heart... I'd be survived if he lasted twenty." It had been a slow and agonizing death, likely the most terrifying half hour of the man's entire life. Riyo hated that he was glad about that. He needed to finish this job so he could get away from here.
