[Ens. Syl O'Connell - Kerelia - Colony]Syl clenched her jaw slightly as Charlie gave her an honest answer and explanation. That was exactly the type of personality she had too much personal experience being on the receiving end of. Her father, her boyfriend, the Caldonian guards, and now potentially a coworker and senior officer. At least this time she had the heads up to prepare herself for it. Kova replied over the com to say she'd join them shortly, and Syl redirected her attention to their surroundings. The festive bottles Charlie pointed out was a welcome sight, and she nodded her agreement and followed the other woman towards the stall. She didn't recognize anyone they passed, with the exception of the Bajorans that had been on the tour and the young Trill that was talking to them. The two people she had met before didn't seem to be here. At least she had the others. Their steady presence was all that was keeping her from going back to the station and hiding out in her quarters. "That looks like a good spot," she said, pointing towards a table with an umbrella over it to provide partial shade to the attached benches. It didn't seem like a permanent addition to the plaza, likely put up for the sake of the festival and the amount of people they were expecting to attend. But it was vacant, and had a clear view of most of the surrounding area.

[Lt. Paawin Riyo - Kerelia Colony LZ-2 - Infirmary]Riyo nodded, resisting the urge to tell Mabel he knew what paperwork he needed to file with whom. It certainly wasn't her fault he was in this situation, and she was just doing her job as he was doing his. Another beep came from the computer, and his expression revealed mild surprise as he looked over the results of the tox screen. "Looks like he started taking his health seriously. Absolutely no drugs in his system - including alcohol or caffeine. No sedatives, paralytics or hallucinogens either." The latter meant he had not been incapacitated before being hung from the crane. The former meant he'd found someone to live for - much as Riyo had finally started taking steps to better himself for Leanna. The Bajoran sighed. He did not want to personalize this man. It was so much easier to see him for the crimes he committed, but that just became a lot harder to do. Turning back to the body, he reached in to spread the ribcage to access the digestive organs, but paused as he felt the tips of the bones flex beneath the pressure. "Hold on..." Grabbing the tricorder, he scanned the ribs as well as the pelvis before nodding to confirm his suspicion. "Lower ribs are fractured. He was lifted from the ground. Had he fallen, his weight would have been top heavy, resulting in the strap catching his pelvis. I'm officially ruling this a homicide." After all, someone had to control the crane to lift him after he was attached to it. The strap also had to be secured high enough to keep him from falling forward as it lifted. This was cruel, cold and premeditated. His job wasn't done yet, though. He still needed to thoroughly examine the rest of the body for anything that might assist the investigation. But hopefully they had enough now to start narrowing down suspects.

[Bajoran Festival - Colony] The only downside to jumja sticks was the sticky mess and the inevitable having to play peacekeeper as Aven tried to take what was left of Ari's. Naturally if she wasn't on her own, it would be resolved a lot quicker. However experience and knowing her son meant that she was able to distract him with a Milaberry biscuit. Tantrum averted and both children eating without anymore mishaps. Leanna was able to then look around, noticing Rimi first who Lea waved to. Rimi wasn't a bad kid, even if she had to keep an eye on her in the bar with her penchant for trying to get served alcohol. Then she spotted Shavan, Charlie and Syl if she remembered correctly and acknowledged them the same way. Making a mental note to go over and say hello properly as Fellin approached her. " Thank you and yes may they guide him, but no he hasn't abandoned us, he was called into work and should be here when he's finished" she replied, to the man who had become a friend when he asked about Riyo.

[ Kova Sh'qaleq - N 3rd St., Colony, LZ-2, Kerelia] As the search continued, Kova heard Eastman utter a thank you. Kova could think of a few places Judith Eastman could store her gratitude, but thought better of engaging the woman any more than was required. It may only have been two syllables, but that sense of vulnerability didn't seem as prevalent as it had before. It could have been Kova's imagination, or this ball-busting broad had gotten her way, and saw no need to be the victim any further. Kova had to wonder if Harmon still fell for that routine. Eastman then piped up, offering a truncated timeline to work from. Back-seat hacking was annoying, but even more so if that person was someone like Eastman. Kova said nothing to Eastman, but did give Chel-E a directive. "Chel-E... restrict timeline between 0400 and 0600," the Andorian said. [... Search Parameters Altered... ] [... Searching... ]
As the search continued, Kova could overhear Eastman talking to one of her subordinates. Sounded like Niles. The only other thing remotely interesting was how Eastman seemed to be fond of sending written messages. Undoubtedly, she was conversing with her favorite little spy, but was she the only one? [... Progress: 73%... ]Kova then heard the chirp of her commbadge. She nearly tossed the thing across the street, but hearing the voice, it was actually a welcome one. Syl had told her that they had gathered at the plaza. She reached up to answer the communication. =A= "Almost done here. Kova out," =A= she replied.
[Crewman Ezra Mora - N 3rd St., Colony, LZ-2, Kerelia] Ezra listened to each of them, including the kid. He took a deep breath. "I have to agree with the cap," Ezra stated. If security on these was lax, it'd be easy for someone to get ahold of one and reprogram it. As to why... I figure they didn't want someone, probably the vic, to know that they were coming." Ezra looked at the others. "If I wanted to sneak up on someone, and I'd make sure their tricorder couldn't read my bio-signature. Maybe even set it to read any bio-signature but my own. Best way to hide in plane sight."Ezra reached up and tapped his commbadge. =A= "Mora to Captain Eastman," =A= he said, waiting for his captain to respond. =A= "Best working theory currently is that someone tampered with the tricorder to read false signatures. A thorough diagnostic should confirm. May even be able to pull prints from it to confirm who it belong to as well as who could have tampered with it." =A= [Capt. Judith Eastman(-Williams), PhD, Max Williams, & Michael Eastman - N 3rd St, LZ-2]As disappointed as she was with Niles (she thought he ought to know better), Judy was also keenly aware that Kova wanted nothing to do with her. When she got the next call on her combadge, she seized the occasion. =A= "I'll head your way to take a look. Eastman out." =A= She looked at Kova. "I'll get out of your hair. Just send me the findings when you're done, and then we're done," she said. "Good luck with whatever you decide to do next."The captain walked away, to join Ensign Mora and her family. She caught sight of a Cardassian leaving, but didn't make much of it. "Honey, hold my purse for me," she instructed Max, recognizing that he wasn't planning to go home. "Gladly," he agreed. She took her PADD out of it. "Let's run the serial number of this thing," she said to the Ensign, and then did just that. "Checked out to Dr. Veho Murra. That's our victim.""Honey, you're gonna get sunburned. We're going inside," Max decreed. "Mr. Mora, follow us."Judy followed, as did Michael, who was more than used to grandma and grandpa taking each other's gentle, loving instructions. [Judy and Max's Love Shack Kerelian Condo, LZ-2]The group crossed the main boulevard, to reach the cozy two-bedroom flat that was to become Judy and Max's nth home, which was currently quite lightly furnished. At present, there were chairs around a wooden dining table, and a few beanbag chairs on a carpet where a couch would someday go. "You can use this tricorder to scan for prints," Judy told Ezra, handing him one of hers.

{Quoted Posts} [Eta Borir - 3rd St, LZ-2 Colony - Infirmary] Eta briefly considered with a grumble how she could most effectively silence this child, but quickly blinked the thought away before she could come to any conclusion. She had been raised decently, after all. Still, it was fortunate that the Cardassian sense of hearing was not really pronounced.
Her gaze turned back to Ensign Mora as he pressed his communicator. Half of the people had probably left to find the cause of the Cardassian's death. "I'm going to see which Cardassian we're actually dealing with here," she muttered absentmindedly and walked at a normal pace to the Infirmary.
[ Vedek Dima Emmari, Apazi Fellin | Square ] Fellin chuckled and shook his head at the Vedek's grim humor - Fellin wasn't at all scandalized, but it seemed a bold thing to be speaking about so casually when Fellin was sure Starfleet and Warp Age Designs would be acting quickly to determined the cause. But then, the Vedek was a bold man and seemed to have no fear of the Federation. It was then that they were approached by a young Trill. Fellin had seen her on the station but never met her. She addressed Dima, so Fellin kept quiet for the moment. "A vedek, yes," Dima said, gently correcting the pronunciation. He kept his laid back posture in the chair but his expression was warm. "Vedek Dima Emmari. Welcome to our Ha'mara," he added. "Trills are so open-minded, don't you think Fellin?" The other man had to nod. "Oh, certainly. Have you tried hasperat? It's Rimi, right?" The Vedek interrupted with a big laugh. "That's not what you want to know," he accused his subtle friend. "You want to see her recording. Tell me, who do you think hung up Dr. Murra, Rimi?" This time Fellin was taken aback. It was not in the spirit of the holiday to dwell on the macabre - a surprising vice from a Vedek, but maybe not, perhaps, from Dima Emmari. "You'll excuse me. I see a friend," Fellin said knowing the Vedek wouldn't take offense. Indeed, he saw Leanna - fellow Promenade restauranteur and promised to Paawin Riyo. He meandered over and raised a hand in greeting. "Welcome to Ha'mara," he said with a smile. "Riyo hasn't abandoned you, has he? Prophets guide him." [Bajoran Festival - Colony] The only downside to jumja sticks was the sticky mess and the inevitable having to play peacekeeper as Aven tried to take what was left of Ari's. [ Kova Sh'qaleq - N 3rd St. --> Plaza, Colony, LZ-2, Kerelia] And there she was... that ball-busting broad that didn't give a damn about anyone or anything except her own agenda. It was all too obvious to Kova as Eastman ended a communication and told Kova to send her whatever she had come up with once she was done. It was all that Kova needed to see. She didn't even suspect the wish for good luck was genuine. "Fortune is for fools and Ferengi," Kova said back. To Kova, there wasn't such a thing as luck. Preparation and adaptation were the only things to seal one's fate, second to Uzaveh's[fn]Andorian deity[/fn] favor. [... Search complete... ]A sigh of relief left Kova's lips. One final job... complete. "Chel-E, display results," the Andorian said. She watched as the results began to filter into view. Seeing the actual results, she wasn't really surprised. "This is what they needed me for? The four year old could have figured this out."[... User ID: Dr. Veho MURRA, Senior Design Engineer, Warp Age Design... ]It probably wasn't a strong selling point for Keltner if employees were being killed or killing themselves. It seemed the Andorian would be seeking employment opportunities elsewhere. She tapped her commbadge. =A= "Sh'qaleq to Eastman. According to the system's records, there was only one administrative account active during that time period and it belongs to the stiff." =A=Upon ending the communication with Eastman, Kova deactivated Chel-E and replaced the interactive lens in her pocket. She then proceeded to make her way towards the plaza. Things seemed to become a bit more crowded... and social the closer she got to the plaza. It seemed that many of these people weren't about to allow the recent tragedy to ruin the entire event for them. It was something that Kova could respect. Eventually, Kova's eyes fell upon the trio that seemed to be searching for somewhere to sit. She began to move towards the pack: Syl, Charlie and Shavan. "I hope you three don't expect me to be touched that you waited for me before starting rounds," Kova chimed as she got closer. "Just means we're going to have to shoot doubles of whatever to keep pace."

[NPC - Crewman Ezra Mora - N 3rd St., Colony, LZ-2, Kerelia] Captain Eastman eventually joined her husband and grandson. At some point during his communication with the Captain, the Cardassian woman had taken her leave. The Captain ran the serial number of the tricorder and saw that it had been registered to Dr. Murra. It didn't seem odd that it had been checked out by the victim. Yet, the fact that it had been registered to him and found beneath a cone, well that was a bit peculiar. Ezra reached for his own tricorder and began to scan the device. "Captain, I can confirm the victim's prints," he reported. "Along with everyone here, Ms. Borir...." Ezra's brow furrowed as he titled his head slightly. He ran an additional scan to confirm. "Captain, there's an additional set of prints that doesn't appear to be in our database."

[NPC - Rimi Mora Plaza, Colony, LZ-2, Kerelia] It didn't seem that Leanna was sour at the sight of Rimi. Perhaps the woman was just incapable of being upset. Rimi was pretty certain that she would have had her fill of the young teen by now. Still, that was a matter for another time. Right now, she was focused on the task at hand. It seemed the gentleman from the station, the Hasperat vendor had in fact recognized her. Or perhaps her reputation simply proceeded her by this point. "Um... yeah, hi," she said with a slightly timid wave. She wasn't sure how to react at first. Besides, most of the adults she cross paths with typically found some reason to yell at her. He was nice enough, and actually ended up excusing himself to go and speak with Leanna for a moment. That left Rimi along with the vedek, as he had so purposefully corrected her. Though, the question he had posed to her still lingered heavily between them. "Who do I think hung the Cardie on the crane?" Rimi said. "It wouldn't surprise me if it were a Bajoran. I mean, who could blame them?" Rimi stood there sharing her logic with the vedek. "The Cardassians enslaved your people for half a century, and then tried to do it again with the help of the Dominion." Her eyes looked towards Dima. "But that's probably the sort of thing your Prophets frown upon, huh?"

[NPC - Louisa Keltner, PhD - N 3rd St, LZ-2]As Louisa stood there, Judy's voice came over the combadge. Or rather, a loud sigh came over the combadge. =A= "She's gotten under your skin, and now you're taking it out on her," =A= the Captain assessed, familiar as she was with the personalities involved. =A= "I'm afraid I can't remove her access unless you have enough to arrest her, and I can't give you unlimited access, because you're a junior officer, and you haven't signed the NDA that I had to." =A= She sounded disappointed, in her subtle way. =A= "I'm going to send you Jenkins. He has delegate access, which should be enough for your investigative needs, especially since I have Ms. Sh'qaleq working the crane angle right now. If you need to access anything beyond that, contact me." =A= =A= "And don't spend so long on one suspect, however caustic. We now know he was lifted up there sometime between 0430 and 0600, so get alibis, ask basic questions, and move on; circle back later. Eastman out." =A= Keltner got a message on her PADD. JEW: Cooperate with the investigation. Be Nice. JEW: If requests are unreasonable, send to me. JEW: No admin access. LK: will talk about this later LK: i have a complaint JEW: Later. Focus on investigation now. Louisa looked up sweetly at the Lieutenant. She saw the subtle chastisement of herself, but more importantly, the implied chastisement of her opponent, and God help him if she ever were to find out Eastman had stuck him with a babysitter. A moment after, Josh would get a ping on his combadge. =A= "Jenkins to Niles. Be there in a minute." =A= [ LT Joshua Niles - N 3rd St, Colony, LZ-2, Kerelia ]And just then, Niles knew he had screwed up. He was not quite sure where he'd done it, but he could tell that he had, for he could sense the Captain's disappointment over the comms channel. Though yes, Keltner had gotten to him, but his intent was not to get back to her, and he would have to make certain to document it in his report that his intent was to separate someone who might be a suspect from the evidence that could be used to incriminate them. Unless he sorely misremembered his Investigating Techniques Fundamentals course, preserving evidence from tampering was key to the process. But it would seem that just about everyone was thinking that direct access to the computers where critical data could be contained was actually not necessary to do his job... And part of him had a nasty feeling, that the Captain might be going out on a limb to protect someone who was on first-name basis with her... but he chased that thought away entirely; hell, if there was anyone he knew in uniform whose integrity was inviolate, it was the Old Lady. Though, part of his mind found something thoroughly amusing about the apparent need for a non-disclosure agreement. As a Tactical Officer, he was privy to incredible amounts of highly sensitive information; he was also in the know for a great many diplomatic and political matters, and he was bound to secrecy until the matters at hand were declassified or he kicked the bucket... and this was also why there were regulations requiring him to report to the chain of command and to Intelligence if he suspected he was being pumped for information. What real worth were colony building procedures, compared to the guidance systems of quantum torpedoes or the specifics of long-range sensor networks? Well, apparently not for him to reason why, but to do what he could with one hand tied behind his back. But at least now, he had at least so much as a possible time of death, which gave him a starting point to work from. And, it would give him a chance to stop worrying about that hag who apparently thought she could dictate the course of an investigation. Though, given the crane was being inspected by someone else and that matter was taken off his hands, he still had to come up with a suspect pool. The list he had been given was part of it, but it was entirely too narrow for the time being. Administrator access, by itself, meant very little if credentials could be compromised. For all he knew, the admin access used to tamper with the log had been Captain Baker's or... Well that was odd all right, having another Keltner on that list, and that Vedek, a name he only recognized because he always scanned the manifests of incoming ships when the traffic reports crossed his desk... But just now he could not afford to zero in on the oddities lest they actually be coincidences and he would miss something broader. At least, that was where his expertise with monitoring starship traffic and seeking out anomalies in those patterns would come in handy. Especially given that a crane was not that complicated; hell, the munitions handling system in the torpedo magazines, the cargo lifters and some of the hoists in the shuttlebay worked the exact same way, and individual certifications on them had more to do with what was being moved around than with the system themselves, so anyone with basic knowledge could use a crane... Though, when Jenkins arrived, Niles hit the ground running. "Mister Jenkins, I'm given to understand you have delegate access. Here is what I need right now. First of all, we have a Vedek here with administrative access to Warp Age's system; I need to know why, and who granted it to him. And this... Mister Keltner here, a computer support contractor. I need to know who granted the Vedek access and just how much, and I'd like to know what Miser Keltner, and this Stok, were up to lately."And that was just the start. He was on a roll now, his mind working through his analytical process; odds are, the hag would not approve of his methods, or think she could do things much better than him, but that was her problem. "Also, I need surveillance of the site between 0300 and sunup, and to account for the whereabouts of all of Warp Age's staff and contractors, and the Vedek, and not just with access logs, but with video surveillance as well for the whole time period. Let's make sure we have no discrepancies between the two.""Oh, and if you can, please forward Ms. Sh'qaleq individual encryption keys for administrative users, see if we can't speed up her work on the crane some."After all, if a bone had been thrown his way in the form of the time of death to narrow down his suspect pool. And now, it was up to Jenkins to make it happen.

Occasionally he'd give instructions to the nurse. The deeper he went, the easier it was to not think about who the person had been before they ended up on his table. Everyone looked the same on the inside. Hearing an unfamiliar voice from the next room, he paused, glancing up at the others before he straightened and put the tools down on the tray beside him, dragging the sheet back over the body. It didn't matter who it was in the next room... A corpse halfway through dissection wasn't a sight that anyone needed to see. Ripping the gloves off, he stepped through the door, pausing when he saw the Cardassian woman on the other side. Well... this was awkward. "I'm Dr. Paawin," the Bajoran introduced himself. "Are you in need of medical attention?" She didn't seem to be ill or injured, but he had learned a long time ago that didn't necessarily mean anything.

Eta raised her eyebrows as a Bajoran suddenly stood in front of her. "Not yet," she growled in response to his question about whether she was hurt. These words were followed by a tone that could best be compared to a Cardassian laugh. There was more than a slight irony in her voice that a Bajoran was performing the autopsy. She blinked twice in quick succession and then assumed a slightly less stiff posture. Depending on where the Bajoran had grown up, he would take that as a good or bad sign. After thinking about her body language for a few minutes, she began to speak. "I wanted to see if you.... made any progress in identifying this....Cardassian. I'm not really comfortable here," she said quietly, thinking about why she was telling this to a Bajoran, of all people.

[Lt. Paawin Riyo - Kerelia Colony LZ-2 - Infirmary]A muscle in his jaw flexed at her response, the woman's tone and expression unmistakable. It seemed she wasn't any more pleased with who was doing the autopsy than he was. When she then relaxed, his brow twitched, and his own shoulders stiffened reflexively. There were only a handful of ways this conversation could go. "Unfortunately, I am not able to discuss the details of the investigation at this time - " The professional line was rattled off with familiarity, but he cut himself off when he realized her admission. That was a vulnerability he didn't think he'd ever seen from a Cardassian, especially not when speaking to a Bajoran. So in appreciation of the effort she was making, he released a small sigh, his own posture relaxing with the exhale. "Veho Murra." The name still felt like poison on his tongue, but he did his best to keep his expression neutral.

[Eta Borir - LZ-2,Kerelia Infirmary] "Veho Murra" she repeated, scratching her chin questioningly. At the moment, everything itched. "A war criminal, after all. Concentration camp in Dakhur Province, huh?" she muttered, looking over at the Bajoran. "Have...you found out anything about the cause of death yet?" ______________________________

[Lt. Paawin Riyo - Kerelia Colony LZ-2 - Infirmary]Well... at least she didn't seem particularly heartbroken about the man's death. That made this conversation slightly easier to bear. Riyo didn't respond to her verification of Murra's crimes on Bajor. He couldn't acknowledge it without the anger seeping into his voice. Instead, he replied to her other question. "Cause of death was cardiac arrest and asphyxiation. I'm sorry, but I really can't say anything more about it at this time." There was a fine line between playing nice with the Cardassian, and compromising the investigation. It was entirely possible he had already said too much, but he hoped having Mabel in there had given Eastman and whoever she had investigating enough of a head start to know if this woman was a suspect or not.

[Eta Borir - LZ-2 Kerelia Infirmary - 3rd St] "Cardiac arrest and suffocation? For God's sake, people are getting more and more creative at killing," she remarked quietly and then looked directly at the Bajoran again. "I take it you no longer need my help. If so, I'd like to go back outside. I need air."
Eta didn't assume the Bajoran needed her help. And if he did need it, she doubted he wanted it from a Cardassian. Besides, he'd probably help her pack her things right away.

[Lt. Paawin Riyo - Kerelia Colony LZ-2 - Infirmary]Riyo bit his tongue to keep himself from reminding her of all the 'creative' ways the Cardassians had come up with when killing his people. He had seen victims in far worse condition that this when he was just a kid. But bringing up the past now wouldn't do anyone any good. The doctor raised an eyebrow slightly at her choice of wording, considering he had never asked for her help... but once again he tried to keep his tone neutral as he replied. "We're almost done here. I'm sure whoever's heading up the investigation is going around questioning everyone, they may want to speak to you if they haven't already." He was trying not to make it sound like she was any more of a suspect than anyone else who had been near the crime scene, and wasn't sure if he was succeeding or not. "But go ahead. They'll find you if they need you." Riyo could definitely use some fresh air too... but he still had an autopsy to complete. Giving the woman a nod, he turned and disappeared back into the next room, donning a fresh set of gloves. "Sorry about that," he said to Mabel and the nurse, realizing the conversation had taken several minutes longer than he had been planning on. "Let's get this over with."

[ Shavan Th’zhaar - Plaza] “Sounds like a plan,” Shavan answered Charlie. He took a bottle of the springwine and nodded agreement when Syl pointed out a table. It better than nothing. Following the others as they took a seat, he briefly returned the wave of the woman he recognized as the owner of the Blue Beta. Before they had gotten settled they were joined by Kova, who greeted them in typical fashion. “Fine with me,” he answered with a grin and took a drink. tag Syl O'Connell Charlie Fox Kova Sh'qaleq soft tag Leanna Mazal
