[Honeysuckle Cottage - Whitby, England]
It was a rather exhausted Thea who entered the home that she had grew up in. However instead of being greeted by the delicious smell of either bread or some kind of cake that was baking in the oven. She was greeted by emptiness as if life had been put on pause and yet wished she was here under better circumstances. Getting the call that her Mother was seriously ill and didn't have a lot of time left, had almost torn her heart in two and the initial anger of not being told until now, was quickly replaced by upset and a lot of tears.
Isaiah had been her rock, holding her whilst she cried, provided lots of love and support. As well as encouraging her to make the journey to Earth, so she could be with her Mother and more importantly say goodbye. As much as they both wanted him to be here, it wasn't practical but she did promise to keep him updated as much as possible.
What she wouldn't give to be in his arms right now, but Thea knew that he would be there for her when she returned. Until then she had to be strong as Elizabeth, her older sister walked in behind her. The siblings had already exchanged hugs when Thea first arrived but she was glad that she wasn't facing this alone.
" Your room is exactly how you left it and Delilah will likely be asleep on your bed" the older Baker sister said as Thea turned towards her.
" That doesn't surprise me about any of it, but let me get changed and we'll go see Mum" Thea replied, wanting to see her Mother, before she could even think about getting settled.
" Of course, I'll be right here".
" Thanks, Beth".
Thea then left her sister, entering her room to find Delilah exactly where Beth told her she would be. Smiling, Thea let her sleep whilst she got changed. Then it was time to leave the house and head to the hospital.

[Several Hours Later.....]
Thea sat at the medium sized dresser, Padd propped up against the mirror as the tear stained face of Thea, tried not look at her reflection before recording her message. She knew that her voice might sound strained and suffering the effects of her visit to the hospital. However it was important to her to keep her promise to Isaiah and prevent any unnecessary worry. Thea also wanted it to be personal and not simply typed. Although she might change her mind depending on how this went.
" Hey Sweetheart, I hope you get this okay and hopefully before I come back. I won't bore you with the details of the journey, but I did arrive safely. Beth was there to meet me and yet coming back to the cottage, felt strange without Mum here and I wished that you could of been at my side.
I know you're with me in spirit and I drew strength from that when Beth took me to the hospital. You think being a Doctor would make it easier and yes I was able to understand what the medical staff told me and from her charts. But seeing her laid there in a private room, unconscious was just awful. I like to think that she knows that I'm there, but I stayed with her for a good couple of hours. Talking and hoping that she would open her eyes despite the prognosis.
It feels like I'm grieving already and maybe it's wrong but that's how it feels. They're not sure exactly how long she has left, however we're going back tomorrow. I promise to send you another message soon. I love you lots".
Pressing send, Thea sat back and ran her hands over her face, as if rubbing away the day. Then she got up and went back into the living area to help her sister with dinner, even if she didn't have much of an appetite.

[St Theresa's Hospital - Whitby]
It had been a week since Thea first arrived home and when she wasn't back at the cottage, reminiscing with Beth and Rachel or keeping Isaiah updated, she was at the hospital. Marianne Baker had spent the last two months in a private room under the watchful eye of nurses and doctors who worked as part of the end of life team. Sadly in the last couple of weeks, Marianne had become unresponsive and it was the machines and her strong will that was currently keeping her alive. A small comfort for the Baker sisters as they knew that any moment spent with their Mother was precious and luckily her sister had also been able to take leave from her new job as an Academy Instructor.
So as Thea entered the ward that morning, following a rather pleasant evening despite the circumstances meeting Beth's new girlfriend Marissa, who worked on a freighter. Her mood was less grim as she followed her new regime of talking to the medical staff and checking her Mother's charts, before going into her room. With Beth due at any time, after Thea had gone ahead, the younger Baker sister immediately went over to their Mother's bed.
" Hi Mum" she said softly as she leaned down to kiss her Mother's forehead. " Beth will be here shortly with Marissa, I got to meet her properly last night and I like her a lot, it's good to see Beth happy".
Thea knew the conversation was one sided but she took further comfort in the knowledge that Marianne could hear her. After replacing the flowers in the vase and looking at the latest readouts, Thea settled into a chair beside the bed, reaching out to take hold of her Mother's hand, just to be close to her.

[St Theresa's Hospital - Whitby]
After Beth had encouraged her to leave their Mother's room in order to get something to eat. Thea had almost downright refused, not wanting to spend any time away from Marianne. However knew deep down that her Sister was right, especially since they had kept up their vigil and only went home to sleep, shower and change clothes. Even then Thea rarely slept or ate properly, although still sent Isaiah the occasional update. Not that there was much to tell him at this time.
She knew that he was on Arkaria and likely would of received her messages, but it wasn't quite the same. In fact she would love nothing better than to hear his voice, breath in his scent and just be close. It was difficult and yet she had to dig deep, use all of her strength reserves and pray that it would get better.
Moving through the corridors on autopilot and looking like some kind of old horror movie zombie, thanks to her scraped up hair and paler than normal complexion. Thea found the cafeteria, going through the motions of choosing something simple and quick, a tuna sandwich this time with a can of soda.
Not ideal but she didn't care as she then paid for the food and sat at a table near the window. If she was bothered, she could of enjoyed the view of the garden, instead she just seemed to stare whilst continuing to function as though she was a robot. These last couple of weeks had been extremely tough and had begun to take their toll, having to remind herself that she was allowed to feel this way. Finally looking away, Thea began to eat, eager to get back as soon as possible.

[St Theresa's Hospital - Whitby]
Lunch over with and still lost in thought, Thea took her tray and deposited it in the recycler. The food that she had just consumed settling as opposed to making her nauseated, a sure sign that sustenance was definitely needed. With having some renewed energy, Thea then exited the cafeteria and made her way back to her Mother's room. Barely getting inside when the alarms began to sound, a sound that Thea knew only too well and yet instinct was overrode by fear.
She stood there, suddenly feeling completely bereft of thought, of not knowing what to do. Frozen as nurses came running in and did their job, checking the machines and the alerts. Seeing but not really hearing as Beth spoke to them, before her Sister was stood right in front of her.
" Thea.... look at me, it's time to say goodbye" Beth began through tears, that were falling thick and fast. Even then Thea just stared at her, until her words punched through the shock and the alarms fell silent.
Nodding as she was struggling to articulate words right now. Thea moved closer to the bed, gazing down at her Mother who still looked as though she was asleep but even Thea could see her chest rise and fall for what was the last time. The nurses offered words of comfort and sincerity, telling the sisters that they would be back shortly in order to give them the chance to say their final farewells.
Beth went first, Thea aware of her talking and kissing Marianne, before it was Thea's turn. How many times had she spoken, telling her everything that she had missed and now this was it, the last time that she would ever be able to do so.
" Goodbye Mum, I love you, now you can finally be reunited with Dad" she said softly, leaning down to gently kiss Marianne's forehead. The tears would come but for the moment, allowed her sister to envelop her in a tight hug. Once released, Thea found herself being led out of the room, unable to look back as she had to remember who her Mum was and not some empty shell.

[Honeysuckle Cottage - Whitby] [Six Days Later...] Thea sat on her Mother's bed in silent contemplation after her and Beth had finished packing her clothes, before each of them had shared out jewellery and other keepsakes in accordance with Marianne's will. Although it still felt very surreal to have done it in the first place, even with the beautiful and very fitting send off that the siblings had given her. That feeling was likely going to stay with Thea for some time as her thoughts drifted back to two nights ago when her and Beth had stood overlooking the harbour and scattered their Mother's ashes. It had definitely been emotional yet comforting at the same time and it was truly perfect whilst serving as a reminder of what home had meant to her Beth. Of course the grief was still raw as they worked together, making other important decisions as well as sharing stories and happy memories. The cottage was now theirs and even though it would be a long time before Thea would see it again, it was reassuring to know that it was still going to be there. In the meantime Beth would be here as often as possible and Delilah would now be under her care. It made sense considering her age and Thea knew that she would be well looked after. The siblings had also shared a very emotional and heartfelt goodbye that very morning as Beth was headed back to San Francisco and Thea had a transport to catch in order to begin the long journey home. As much as this was her home, her heart belonged on Front Ear with Isaiah and her friends. So with that in mind and with her packing already complete. Thea got up and smiled, knowing she was doing the right thing and as the ground shuttle arrived to take her to Starbase One, she typed one last message on her Padd and pressed send. I'm coming home
