The Morning After[NPCs - 2nd Lieutenant Neema & Perq - Sickbay, Front Ear Station ] & The doors to Sickbay hissed open and the young Ferengi came rushing in. His eyes were wide and he looked left and right for the first sign of a doctor or a nurse. "Help! I need help!" said the Ferengi. The doors hadn't closed before Neema came rushing in behind him. She was certainly embarrassed, but it was certainly do the the scene that Perq was causing and nothing else. "Shh! Perq, you're causing a scene!" she said trying to quiet him. "Rightfully, so! You said that it never happens! You said that you'd taken precautions!"That's not fair! You can't just blame me for this!""Okay, what seems to be the problem," said the doctor on shift. He thought it best to see to these patients before Dr. Lunn became annoyed. No one wanted that. Besides, at the moment Dr. Severen had been called to a staff meeting. Which meant it was slim pickings because Riyo came in later. "She says there's... an infection," Perq declared. "Don't say it like that!" Neema countered. "Really, it's nothing to be embarrassed about."The doctor took a deep breath. He'd seen this before... plenty of times. He cleared his throat. "She's absolutely right. It's nothing to be ashamed of. So... I'm assuming we're talking about what? U.I.? E.D.? Some sort of venereal disease?""Yes! Perq snapped. "No! It's not anything like that," Neema said. "Shame on you, Perq.""Well, I feel trapped!" the Ferengi insisted. The doctor stood, his mouth agape as he stared between the two of them. "I'm sorry... what exactly are we talking about?""A pregnancy," Neema finished. The doctor nodded finally understanding. "Ah. I see.""I never should have trusted a Nyberrite soldier. You all gloss over the fine print!""I'm not a soldier. I'm a junior negotiator in the Diplomatic Corps. I told you that! And I told you about my cycle! It's not my fault that you were too drunk to remember... or care!"The doctor exhaled slowly. This was quickly becoming a heavier situation than he cared to deal with. Perhaps he should get Dr. Lunn. Though, there was at least one way to get this one out of his hands. "Ma'am, I can alert your physician aboard the Soteria if you think you'll be more comfortable with them."Neema turned towards the doctor. "Oh, but I'm not the patient."The doctor's eyes widened slightly at the news. Clearly these two were confused. "You're not?"Neema shook her head. "No, I'm not. He is."The doctor looked towards the Ferengi, whom was clearly male. Still, the doctor pulled out his tricorder and scanned the Ferengi. "But... he's a Ferengi male," said the doctor. Clearly, someone was pulling a prank this morning. "Is there another doctor? I don't trust this Hyoo-man if he needs a tricorder to identify my species and gender!" said Perq. "It's okay. He's just confused... and is expecting someone to yell 'gotcha?'" said Neema confused by the context. She went ahead and said what was needed to clear up the matter. "I'm an Anabaj[fn]Anabaj - Memory A.[/fn]."The doctor's eyebrow arched. "An Anab-- oh. Ohhhh." The revelation finally dawned upon the doctor. He turned to look at the Ferengi. "Then you must have...." Perq pulled down his collar to reveal a rather large lump on his throat. "Oh... oh wow, that's a big one!""You said you hardly noticed it!" Perq snapped at Neema, who shrugged helplessly. "Don't worry, sir. We can get those eggs out in no time," said the doctor confidently. "Why don't you come with me. Oh, Dr. Lunn?"

Subjective Responsibility[NPCs - Colonel Helena Vasser & Alpha Sergeant Gorsk & Major Chromar - Corridors, N.S.S. Soteria ] & & "How in the hell did this happen?" Vasser demanded as she moved into the turbolift. As the doors shut behind her and the rest of the occupants, her eyes shifted upon the both of them. "That wasn't meant to be a rhetorical question."Chromar was the first to break the silence. He took a deep breath before uttering a few words. "Initial reports rule it as an accident--" he began, before he was interrupted. "Not good enough!" Vasser spat. "With four dead, one fighting for their life in our infirmary and another unaccounted for, I expect better than 'an accident.'" Her eyes then moved to Gorsk. "Preliminary scans said that we were alone. How did we miss this?"Gorsk stood stiffly as the car descended through the tubes. "Engineering suspects they have made advancements in stealth technology since our last recorded encounter."Vasser's eyes moved back to Chromar. "Tell me, Major, does acquiring such information as this fall under your purview or not?"The Romulan's brow furrowed at the insinuation. "I'm going to assume that was a rhetorical question," he responded simply. "As for intelligence useful to our immediate situation, a vessel has been dispatched to this location. It will be in sensor range just inside of three hours. Whatever you decide... I advise we finish before then."The turbolift came to a stop and the doors parted. "I'm going down to there. I need to see it with my own eyes," she said before disembarking the turbolift. Chromar and Gorsk fell into step behind her. "Colonel... time is of the essence. We have a very small window to make the scene more... palatable," said Chromar. Vasser stepped into the transporter room and then mounted the transporter. She turned and stared back at her Intelligence officer. "Then, I think we should stop wasting time and get down there." Gorsk took up her position, flanking Vasser. Chromar clenched his fist as he stared up at her. "If the Gorn find us here... only blood will stand a chance of appeasing them," he said as he mounted the transporter pad across from Gorsk. Vasser turned her eyes to the transporter chief on duty. "Energize," she ordered as the trio disappeared in the glow of the transporter. TO BE CONTINUED....

Subjective Responsibility (pt. 2) WARNING: MENTIONS GRAPHIC VIOLENCE AND DISTURBING IMAGERY[NPCs - Colonel Helena Vasser & Alpha Sergeant Gorsk & Major Chromar - Jungle, V'Radian Moon ] & & "Run through it again," Vasser said as she knelt down next to the Gorn corpse. Her nostrils were filled with the scent of burnt reptilian scales. It was rather unique and oddly different from that of actual burnt flesh. Her head snapped in the direction of an exasperated sigh that left the lips of a frustrated lieutenant. "How many times do I have to go over this?" the lieutenant snapped. Though, he likely realized his mistake by how quickly the colonel had risen to her feet and rounded upon him. "Until I've been able to determine if your stupidity is the result of a genuine lack of common sense, or if you're actually stupid enough to lie to me," Vasser said firmly. "Run through it... again, Drexler."Drexler took a deep breath and told the tell once more. "We didn't have any warning," Drexler said defensively. "As soon as we reached the crest of the hill, they opened fire on us. We returned it. That nullifying device prevented our tricorders from detecting their signals. We had the high ground. One of them fled deeper into the jungle, heading west." His recitation seemed as scripted as the first two times he'd repeated it. Vasser's eyes moved towards Gorsk who simply nodded, confirming what Vasser had suspected. "I hope you understand the position you've placed the Alliance in," Vasser said. Everything sounded as if their retaliation had been justified. Explaining that tot he Gorn, however, would not be so easy. Vasser made a mental note to confer with her superiors and quickly. "Colonel? There's something that you need to see," Chromar said as he emerged from behind some debris several meters away. "What is he doing over there?" Drexler asked. His demeanor seemed a bit more panicked than Vasser could recall ever seeing on the face of the man. He started to take a step forward, but Vasser shifted to move in front of him. "He's doing his job, which almost never requires input from you," Vasser reminded him. She then turned to move over to see what had gotten Chromar's attention. "What is it?" No sooner had the question left her lips that her eyes fell upon the sight Chromar had called the captain over to see. There were few times that Vasser was genuinely shocked, but this was certainly one of those times. "Seven have been... compromised," Chromar said settling on that last word. "His expertise is limited, but I can have the medical officer beam down to assess--""You sonofabitch!" Vasser said as she closed in on Drexler. Her hands for him, taking a handful of his uniform in each of her hands as she pushed him against a tree. Her eyes looked up the hill and back towards the location of the eggs and the bodies of the fallen Gorn before they were on Drexler once again. "You lured them into the open by firing on those eggs... didn't you?"Drexler was more silent than he had been. Vasser could read it from the faces of the rest of his squad, but she didn't take her hands off Drexler's uniform... not until he admitted it. "You didn't retreat. You didn't call for back up," Vasser said. "Their cover was sound... and you fired on those eggs to draw them out." The colonel shook her head slowly. "Damn you....""Colonel?" Gorsk said interrupting. "I've been advised by Lieutenant Banks that you are needed on the bridge immediately." If looks could kill, Vasser would have impaled Drexler two times over. "Colonel... it is urgent."Vasser pushed back on Drexler once again before releasing the man. "Have the transporter room prepare to receive three," Vasser announced. Drexler's brow furrowed. "What about us?"Vasser began to move away and back towards Chromar with Gorsk close by. "What about you?" Vasser snapped. "As far as I'm concerned, Mr. Drexler, this is the safest place for you and your team. Because if you were on the Soteria right now, I'd personally throw your ass out of an airlock. Stand... by." She continued to glare in Drexler's direction. "Transporter room... energize."
[Bridge, N.S.S. Soteria ] "Report," Vasser said as she moved towards her chair. She barely had a chance to settle in her seat before she learned what situation had been so dire to require her presence on the bridge. "Colonel, a Gorn vessel has entered the system," Chromar said reading the reports that Banks had made. A heavy sigh left his lips. "They'll be here in under four minutes and in sensor range... less than 40 seconds.""Shit," Vasser uttered against the deafening silence. TO BE CONCLUDED....

Subjective Responsibility (pt. 3) WARNING: MENTIONS GRAPHIC VIOLENCE AND DISTURBING IMAGERY[NPCs - Colonel Helena Vasser & Alpha Sergeant Gorsk & Major Chromar - Bridge, N.S.S. Soteria ] & & Time. It was the one luxury that Vasser didn't have. She was used to pressure... to high stakes... to lives depending on the decisions that she made. And yet, in that moment, she said nothing. They were easily down to just over thirty seconds before the Gorn would be able to detect their presence. It wasn't until she heard Chromar's voice, ordering the Gorn in the infirmary, which was now stable, be transported back to the surface. Twenty-four seconds. "All right, now lock onto the signals of our personnel and transport them immediately," said Chromar. "Belay that order," Vasser said simply. The Bridge seemed to fall silent in the wake of her words. Twenty seconds. "Colonel?" Chromar said, believing he had not heard the woman correctly. "Helm, move us to the far side of V'Rad, then enter us into a low orbit of the planet's southern pole. One half impulse." There was an acknowledging 'aye' as her orders were carried out. "Colonel," Chromar said his voice barely above a whisper as he leaned in close to Vasser. "If discovered, it is unlikely that Mr. Drexler and his team will survive.""I am aware, Major," Vasser replied lowly. "I am also aware that there are five lives on that planet and three hundred nineteen aboard this vessel." As the Soteria began to settle in orbit as Vasser had ordered, it was announced that hails were frequently being sent form the away team. "Maintain radio silence. We can't risk exposing our location to the Gorn." Vasser looked in Chromar's direction, almost sensing he had something else to offer. "We will attempt to retrieve the away team once the Gorn have exited the system.""The Gorn have established orbit around the V'Radian moon. There is evidence of transporter activity," Gorsk reported. Vasser nodded and slowly rose from her seat. "Maintain current status. Notify me when the Gorn have taken their leave. I'll be in my ready room," the colonel said as she rose from her seat and retreated to her ready room. She simply stared out her window at the planet below as she heard the chime at her dore. "Enter."Chromar stepped inside with his hands clasped behind his back. He waited for the door to shut before he spoke aloud. "You left them to die. You understand that, right?"Vasser turned to face her Romulan Intelligence officer. "Do you have confirmation?" she asked. Chromar scoffed. "Confirmation? Really, Colonel, is there any doubt?" he responded. Vasser took a deep breath. "The decision I made was in the interest of my crew... the vast majority of my crew," she said. "If you feel otherwise, you're welcome to file a formal complaint, Major. Though, I would remind you, that everyone wearing this uniform took an oath and knew that serving in the Alliance comes with risk."Chromar stood there and sighed slowly. "On the contrary, I fully support your decision, Colonel," Chromar said. His words almost seemed a surprise. "Tactically... it was the right call. Off the record, not everyone is cut out to wear this uniform. However, yours has never fit better, Colonel."Helena stood behind her desk, staring across the ready room at her intelligence officer. "Thank you, Chromar. You have the bridge. Keep me apprised of the situation out there." With a slight nod, Chromar turned and took his leave. Now alone, the colonel lowered herself into her chair and stared out the window once more. She closed her eyes and sat alone in silence wondering how many other Nyberrite commanders would have made the same call.
