[Capt. Judith Eastman-Williams, PhD & Max Williams - Eastman-Williams Quarters, Front Ear Station]Max, normally blessed with the coolest of heads, was a bit excited. It certainly beat nervousness, for sitting down with one who turned out to be a fan of his. Given said fandom, it had seemed appropriate to invest in dinner, and so he had settled on a specialty item for the household, a salmon coconut curry, with whole-wheat rice (the best side for the same) and home-baked pita bread (close enough to naan). "You look eager," Judy teased. "It's not often we have one of my guests," he replied. She planted a little kiss on him. Promptly, the chime rang. "Come on in!" Max called out, knowing the dogs were napping in the master bedroom, behind a closed door.

[ Uncle - Eastman-Williams Quarters, Front Ear Station ] Uncle was certainly swollen with excitement, or perhaps it was anxiousness. After meeting the Williams' at the brunch she had hosted a few weeks ago, they were kind enough to invite her over for dinner. To sample the cuisine of Max Williams in a restaurant was one thing. To be invited into his home for dinner, well, Uncle could only imagine it was a blessing from the Prophets. In her arms, she nursed a bottle of Bajoran springwine. She had been so uncertain of what to bring, and very nearly decided to sample a bit of it to calm her nerves. Standing outside, she finally reached up and pressed the door chime. As she stood there, she wondered if she should have asked someone to escort her there. That security chap from the brunch? And then there had been that rather distinguished gentleman she'd come across on the Promenade. Either way, she promptly dismissed the notion being that she had already arrived. She heard the Max's voice inviting her to come on in. The doors parted shortly after that. And no sooner had they done so, that the aroma hit Uncle's nose, further enticing the woman's appetite for the dinner that had been prepared. "Good evening," Uncle said. She only took a single step into the quarters, not wanting to be too presumptuous. "I wasn't sure what to bring, so I resorted to old habits." She held up the bottle of springwine and no sooner had she done so, that her words seemed to dawn upon her. Hopefully, the hosting couple wouldn't presume she'd been a raging drunk in her day.

[Capt. Judith Eastman-Williams, PhD & Max Williams - Eastman-Williams Quarters]"Thank you for coming," Max greeted Uncle, quiet but smiling, as he walked out of the kitchen. "You can't go wrong with a gift of wine.""Take off your shoes, make yourself at home," Judy added, as she carried the curry to the dining table. Max reached into his jacket pocket for a pair of reading glasses, put them on, and immediately whipped them off. "Those are her specs," he explained, as he then put on his own readers. "Ah, a '76 vintage. That was a good year for Springwine. It'll go quite well with the dessert we have planned."Granted, the fact that it was the real stuff would cause a bit of a problem with Judy's various medical woes, but that was something they could explain later.

[ Uncle - Eastman-Williams Quarters, Front Ear Station ] Uncle smiled as Max told her that she couldn't go wrong with wine. "Well, that much is true," she agreed. She proceeded to slip off her shoes as Judy had asked. As she ventured further into their quarters, her eyes scanned the room. Perhaps it was out of habit, or simply what people did when they tried to learn more about their hosts. Uncle offered the bottle to Max, whom expected it and stated that it was a good year. "Dessert, really? It's official. The two of you really are trying to spoil me."

[Capt. Judith Eastman-Williams, PhD & Max Williams - Eastman-Williams Quarters]There was plenty to see in the living room of the CO's quarters. There was a grand piano in one corner, two large couches near it, and a wooden dining table (currently covered with a tablecloth) not far from these. Along the walls were tall bookshelves, heavy with a variety of books as well as assorted tchotchkes. Several paintings of natural landscapes adorned the walls too, as did photos of the Eastman-Williams clan. It was very much a lived-in, cozy aesthetic. "We've both developed a bit of a sweet tooth ourselves, since the grandchildren came into the picture," Max said on the topic of desserts. He set the bottle on the table, meeting Judy there. "Cakes were actually Max's first love. He started out as a pastry chef," she recalled. "It's been a few years, but he's still got it.""A few years" was an almost amusing turn of phrase, when describing a career that was now in its fifth decade.

[ Uncle - Eastman-Williams Quarters, Front Ear Station ] As Uncle's eyes perused the vastness of the first couple's quarters, she couldn't help but noticed how... settled everything was. Naturally, that was the way a home was supposed to be. The Eastman-Williams home said it in volumes. Her eyes eventually found the many photographs of family. Children... grandchildren... the passage of time. Easily the most voluminous and seductive sight in Uncle's opinion. "You two have certainly done well for yourselves. Are any of your children still living here with you?" Her eyes scanned more of the room and she noticed the large Terran musical instrument. It made beautiful sounds, but Uncle had found it far easier to admire than to master.

[Capt. Judith Eastman-Williams, PhD & Max Williams - Eastman-Williams Quarters]The couple had indeed done well for themselves, though much of it was Judy's inherited wealth. Still, Max nodded, knowing that he had contributed to the family's standing as well with his books. "Our youngest, Anna, still lives with us," he explained, pointing Anna out in a photo from Thomas's high school graduation; as usual, the teen looked like a (dramatically) younger version of her mother. "Much against her will," Judy joked. "She's out with her friends tonight, studying for her finals - or at least that's what she told us."Judy and Max trusted their daughter to bring the kinds of grades they wanted to see, and in return, the teen got quite a long leash. "There's also our son Lawrence, who lives on the station in the civilian areas, with his own wife and kids.""Do you have family with you?" Max asked Uncle.

[ Uncle - Eastman-Williams Quarters, Front Ear Station ] Uncle listened as the couple explained the whereabouts of their daughter. Out with friends... studying. Essentially, it sounded as if the girl's life was free of complication, except those of the teenaged variety. And to boot, they had another child and his family living on the station as well. From what Uncle could see that only accounted for a small portion of the clan pictured on the walls. "No, I don't," Uncle added. "I haven't been with family for some time. The Prophets have their plans, and I'm hardly one to argue with something as grand as that."

[Capt. Judith Eastman-Williams, PhD & Max Williams - Eastman-Williams Quarters]Judy nodded. "For what it's worth, I think we're an exception in having so many relatives here with us," she said. "Let's get to the food while it's still hot," Max suggested. "Our main course is a salmon coconut curry, somewhat spicy but doesn't compare to hasperat, with sides of rice and flatbread."All the food was on the table, ready to be eaten. Judy doled out portions onto three plates as Max spoke.

[ Uncle - Eastman-Williams Quarters, Front Ear Station ] Uncle smiled as Judy pointed out that having so many relatives here was more of an exception than an actual rule. "Good fortune should always be celebrated," Uncle commented with a smile. "I imagine it's quite the blessing to have your family so close."As the suggestion of getting to the food was made, Uncle was hardly one to protest. She had been anticipating this from the moment the invitation had been made. She made her way to the table and allowed her eyes to pour over everything, even as Judy began to serve. "Well, this is all magnificent," she said. "True, but in my experience, what curry has lacked in spice, it has always made up for with flavor."

[Capt. Judith Eastman-Williams, PhD & Max Williams - Eastman-Williams Quarters]"This is a relatively gentle curry by human standards as well, so it's really important to get the other flavors right," Max said on the topic of the food. "You have to be a lot more careful with fish like salmon than with meats.""We've had a lot of fish over our time together - we keep kosher - and with young kids, and then grandkids, running around the whole time, we can't eat as spicy as we'd like, quite as often as we'd like, so it's a dish we have a lot of practice with," Judy added. In addition to being mild (letting the coconut, tumeric, and other flavors stand out), the curry was also quite thick, making for a nice sauce for the rice. The couple ate it as such, balancing both salmon and rice on the same forkfuls.

[ Uncle - Eastman-Williams Quarters, Front Ear Station ] It didn't take long for Uncle to follow the lead of the lovely couple. As she sampled a few bites of the meal, she found it nothing short of delectable. "Oh my word," she began. It was almost too difficult to actually speak out of fear of losing any of the flavor she was tasting. "I hardly miss the spice with it tasting like this. The coconut in particular. An interesting choice." Uncle's praises only gave way to her getting another forkful of salmon and the rice. "You two do realize that you've likely ruined regular food for me at this point," Uncle added.

[Capt. Judith Eastman-Williams, PhD & Max Williams - Eastman-Williams Quarters]Judy and Max both smiled at the reaction their cooking got. "Coconut can be a very versatile flavor. In some ways, it's a foundation of the whole flavor structure, more so than the salmon itself," Judy commented. "The mango is a lot more complicated - add too much, and it clashes."Max chuckled. "Judy makes it sound so complicated, but it's not. With the right recipe, you can put this dish together after a busy day, even without your wife to help you," he said. Setting his fork down, he affectionately ruffled Judy's blonde hair. "You know, every recipe I published was tested with, by, Judy."

[ Uncle - Eastman-Williams Quarters, Front Ear Station ] Uncle smiled. "Really?" she said after swallowing another mouthful of the dinner and dabbing at the corners of her mouth. "Then, I suppose my gratitude for you has grown a great deal more, Judy. You made certain that these delicious meals were savory enough for subjugation and saw to it that the recipes were shared and not horded." Uncle smiled. "Though, taste withstanding, I certainly wouldn't blame you if you had decided to keep such a treasure a close kept secret.""Of course, I suppose meals are much more enjoyable when shared," Uncle mused. "It's quite easy for all the sorrows, burdens and animosities to fade away, even if only through dessert." The Bajoran woman smiled at the thought as her words seemed to hint at experience rather than expectation.

[Capt. Judith Eastman-Williams, PhD & Max Williams - Eastman-Williams Quarters]"The right food can do wonders for the soul," Judy agreed with Uncle's sentiment. She suspected that the Bajoran - who had likely lived through the Occupation - had some rather difficult anecdotes to that tune, but it was too early in the night to pry. "It's interesting, how a good meal can lighten the mood, even without any alcohol to go with it," Max added, still intrigued by that phenomenon. "Although alcohol does help."Judy nodded, confirming that observation. They'd had more than their share of meals, some lubricated by booze, and others not.
