Personal History
Early Life/Pre-Starfleet Career:
Evorís was born in Marseille, France, the first child of the Vulcan-Federation tactical representative and an exiled Romulan commander. His name is an amalgamation of the Vulcan, Romulan, and French influence of his parents’ heritage and Terran residence, a combination that was integral to his upbringing. The family’s home— a historical chateau surrounded by lavender fields on the outskirts of Marseille, where his father was stationed— may as well have been a private military academy for the extensive expectations set upon young Evorís. He was required to memorize all known starship specifications, battle maneuvers, and combat techniques in the Alpha and Beta quadrants, learn diplomacy and culture, and how to follow orders promptly and precisely. He learned to be attentive, to be silent, to be obedient, to be patient— that is, to sacrifice his own identity for the sake of others, until someone decided that he could be of use to them.
He sought his father’s approval over anything else, unable to distinguish himself from his obligations, even when the demands became increasingly dangerous. After all, Evorís concluded, how could Ambrok be held responsible for the repercussions of his requests? How could Ambrok be blamed for the actions of his wife, or the failure of his son?
If Evorís could not keep Jis’el appeased while Ambrok was away at Vulcan as he was asked, the oft-harsh consequences must be deserved. It was only logical.
Academy/Technical Academy (if Starfleet):
Was accepted into Starfleet Academy in 2374, with an impressive list of recommendations procured by his father’s connections in the Federation and on Vulcan. Evorís majored in Command and Control, and though he was initially pressured to emphasize in tactical procedures and starship combat, his knack for linguistics and cultural nuance quickly drew the attention of his instructors. Encouraged by his professors, Evorís pursued further study of advanced exolinguistics, tucked into his schedule between astrogation, flight control, and general operations and protocol. Following his four-year basic training, Evorís pursued two years of Command School, receiving distinction for his ability to remain composed and efficient during emergency simulations and training.
Previous Assignments: None.
Birthdate: 24 March 2356.
Birthplace: Marseille, France.
Marital Status & spouse name(s): Single.
Siblings Names and Ages: Elvir, age 21.
Parents' Names: Ambrok and Jis’el.
Parents' Status: Ambrok is the long-standing Tactical Representative of Vulcan in the Federation; Jis’el is a retired Romulan commander. They currently live nearby Marseille, France, with Evorís’ sister Elvir, but also maintain residency and contact with Vulcan (and clandestinely, Romulus).
Other Important Relatives: The Hfihrnn s’Alkhehr, a prevalent House-Clan in the Romulan government and military. Their timely disappearance during the coup d'état of Romulus, and subsequent return to a weakened and leaderless political system, have led some to speculate that the s’Alkhehr had previous knowledge of or involvement in the coup. Of course, the s’Alkhehr adamantly denies this.
Both sides of Evorís’ extended family support the reunification of Vulcans and Romulans, though for the joint political potential of a Vulcan-Romulan alliance rather than for peace. The Romulan clan keeps their support of reunification secret, claiming that Jis’el’s bonding with Ambrok was contrary to their wishes, though in truth they devised the arrangement. Evorís knows very little about their aims, outside of what his father feels is necessary to impart to complete a task.
Pets: None.
Best Friend: None.
Personality
Department Preference: Flight Control (communications officer & conn relief).
Commissioned, Enlisted or Civilian: Commissioned.
Reason for joining Starfleet or moving to a Federation base: Having been raised by the leading Vulcan tactician and a former ship captain on Earth, Evorís was encouraged (rather, he was instructed, with no allowance for refusal) to join Starfleet when he was of age. He is expected to advance swiftly through the ranks, a tool of his family’s motives. (Imagine their frustration when, following Command School, he was assigned to a distant station called Front Ear, of all things.)
Academy/Tech Majors and Interests: Command and Control (Major) and Exolinguistics (Minor) with emphasis on communications and basic flight control. Two years of Command School following graduation of the standard four year training. Interests: linguistics, culture, negotiations, experimental chemistry. Also excelled at strategic operations and tactical training, largely due to pre-Starfleet instruction from his father, a known tactical expert. Participated in the Starfleet decathlon all six years of his Starfleet training.
Hobbies:Working extra hours. Enjoys running, alien literature, and “researching” experimental substances. Spends downtime reading and having breakfast at the local café, and visiting France in the holosuites.
Short-term Goals: Find the best non-replicated food on the station— junk food, if they’ve got it. See if any of the restaurants make cookies.Check if there are any cats onboard.
Long-term Goals: He’s been told to await further instruction from his father, once he has a commanding position, preferably of a starship. Evorís has yet to consider his own ambitions, though making first contact with a humanoid species (primarily, studying their language and culture to establish a method of constructive communication) would be high on the list, should he be forced to acknowledge his own desires.
Defining Characteristic: Evorís is, if nothing else, extremely polite. He takes special care to be tolerant and obliging toward all those he interacts with, as far as possible. Whether this gracious behavior makes him a princely gentleman, a dreary soldier, or a lowly attendant is to be decided by the individual at the receiving end.
Sense of Humor: Obscure and soft, mostly in the form of subtle teasing and a slight small smile.
Phobias or Fears: His mother. He fears his own Romulan blood, fears that violence and manipulation are inherent to him through his heritage, and it is only a matter of time and discipline before they are expressed— perpetuated by the militaristic style of his Vulcan upbringing and combat training at Starfleet Academy.
Favorite Things: The “finer things” (well-tailored clothing, delicate fragrances, fine cufflinks, etc). His small collection of intricate, hand-crafted teacups. Cats. Snickerdoodles.
Least Favorite Things: Corruption in positions of authority. Grandiose displays of wealth and power, specifically meant to intimidate those without such privilege. Eruptive aggression. Essentially, everything that his ko’mekh and the s’Alkhehr represent.
Bad Habits or Vices: Little in the way of self-preservation, even when logic calls for it; some might even say he seeks out his own destruction. Frequently refrains from sleeping, though has been occasionally known to sleep well into the afternoon when rest is required. When participating in recreational intoxication, Evorís tends to be a bit reckless with his dosage.
Achievements (personal or professional): Distinguished marks in his linguistics courses at the Academy. Received praise from senior officers for his ability to lead a team during crisis simulations. Was considered to be well-mannered and quick to follow instruction both within the Academy and during social obligations regarding his father’s status within the Federation.
Disappointments: His mother and sister’s allergy to Terran mammals meant he was never allowed to have a pet cat. Elvir’s conviction to return to Romulus and rejoin the s’Alkhahr, despite the cruel manner they were both treated by their Romulan mother, and his suspicions of the malicious intentions of their Romulan House-Clan.
Illnesses: N/A.
Strengths: Even-tempered, eloquent, durable. Evorís speaks with care and precision, and excels in the appearance of wisdom (though in application, his reason is not as infallible as one might expect from a Vulcan). He is fairly strong and athletic.
Weaknesses: Does not always adhere to strict logic, nor Romulan customs. Feels he deserves maltreatment; gravitates toward people and situations that could harm him, in a conditioned reliance on diligent servitude. Though he is quite adept at curbing outward displays of emotion, it often takes deliberate focus to purge them from his own mind— through the greys of his suppression, the fog of melancholy lingers.
Prejudices: Despite the kinship of shared heritage, Evorís has a tendency to distrust other Romulans, initially assuming them to be just as hysterical, vindictive, and violent as his mother (and to a lesser degree, his sister). Though he shares the prejudices against the Dominion as much of the Federation, he has been conditioned to keep his opinions to himself.
Please write a brief answer to 3 of the following (a sentence or two for each is fine):
Your character's best or favorite experience
As a young boy while his parents were away at Vulcan, Evorís found a particularly trusting stray cat out in the back garden of his family’s chateau. He spent the duration of his parents’ absence studying in the garden in the company of the cat, naming her Princesse Adélaïde, and bringing scraps of food and yarn for her to play with. It is the most at ease he has ever felt in his family home.
Of course, it was all unraveled when his mother returned to find cat hair and smell still on his clothes, and Evorís was— to her standard— appropriately punished. The cat occasionally returns, but Evorís keeps his distance.
Your character's most crucial experience
Being “outed” as Romulan as a young teenager in his collège locker room when another classmate, the son of a Starfleet Commander, saw his brand and recognized it as a Romulan symbol. The accusations that followed— that his people were inherently evil, vicious, even murderers— contrasted with the patriotic ideals that his mother boasted throughout his childhood. It was this event that pushed Evorís, whose own relationship with his Romulan mother was speckled with cruelty and aggression, to internalize the prejudices of his classmates and turn them vehemently toward himself. He clings to his father’s Vulcan heritage, and the Terran-French culture of his youth, as if it will stave off the violent Romulan urges that he is certain are inherent to his nature.
Who is your character's role model and why?
If he has a role model— aside from his father— it’s Jean-Luc Picard. Beyond being a well-respected captain of the flagship starship U.S.S. Enterprise (an influential position that Evorís is certain Ambrok would be impressed with), Picard is French, and seems to Evorís to be a decent, level-headed man.
Please write a brief sample post from your character’s perspective:
If Evorís had the sense to recognize it, and the allowance to indulge in it, he might have been relieved at his assignment. Front Ear Station was far (far, far) from France and Vulcan, several days off the edge of the Caldonian empire, one foot firmly planted into the unknown. It was beyond the thickest presence of the Federation, alone and of little consequence.
In short, it was the antithesis of where his father wished him to go.
He felt the effects of Ambrok’s displeasure in the sharpness of his farewell, and the weight of disappointment that hung at his brow. Evorís raised his hand in a farewell salute. “Peace, and long life.”
Ambrok frowned, hands remaining clasped behind him, and began to turn away. He paused briefly, and affixed Evorís with a final piercing glance. “Prosper.”
Jis’el and Elvir did not even come to see him go.
