[ Cadet Left Ear to-Ennien - New Personal Quarters] The newly minted cadet dropped her last load in the living space of her new quarters, looking around with a sigh. It wasn't as small as she'd feared, but Left Ear already missed the beautiful space that had been created for the Sivaoans in their shared quarters. The climbing platforms, plants and vines would be missed. Left Ear hoped her new roommate might allow her to bring in some of those elements. For now, she had a few potted trees and plants to place in her own room. Left Ear began carrying things into the bedroom on the left. She didn't need the built-in drawers for clothes, so they would hold a few doo-dads and usefuls. She had plenty of those. Too many, probably. [Ens. Eshryv Th'oshaaran - Front Ear - Personal Quarters]To say he wasn't happy about this assignment was an understatement. He'd been hoping to at least be on a ship... But apparently Ops is a common specialty, and even with graduating in the top 20% of his class, he hadn't had a choice. So he'd been in a rather sour mood the duration of his flight across Federation Space, and decided it was probably best to stop by his quarters for a quick sonic shower and change of uniform before he reported for duty. Those thoughts quickly fled his mind as he entered the quarters he'd been assigned to, and the first thing he saw were... hammocks?... attached in tiers to the corner of the living room. A cluster of potted trees were against one wall. The furniture was all wrong. The duffel bag he carried dropped from his shoulder with a thud as he stood there and stared, antennae curling and swiveling as though trying to sense something that would tell him this was all some sort of human prank. There was movement in one of the rooms off to the left, and he took a step farther into the quarters, finally letting the door slide shut behind him. "Hello?" he called out, not wanting to walk in on his new roommate in a potentially embarrassing state. Humans were strange like that.

[ Cadet Left Ear to-Ennien - Personal Quarters] Left Ear heard the door open as she unloaded one of her bags. Not wanting to seem overly eager, she continued putting items away. The scent that wafted in from the living room was familiar - Andorian. Left Ear had encountered several of the blue-skinned species working in the infirmary, but she wasn't well-versed in their culture. It would be interesting to learn. When he called out, Left Ear left her bag and poked her head around the door. ' Hello!' she responded cheerfully, her ears pricking forward and tail curving around to wave in a friendly manner. ' I hope you don't mind I chose this room. I can move if you'd prefer it. I haven't unpacked everything yet.' Left Ear wanted to show herself to be adaptable and flexible right from the start. [Ens. Eshryv Th'oshaaran - Front Ear - Personal Quarters]To Eshryv's surprise and confusion, it wasn't a human head that appeared from the bedroom, but a cat. A person-sized, talking cat. For a moment he just stared, waiting for the person beneath the costume to reveal themselves. Then the ears moved, and a tail appeared - also moving in a way too fluid to be robotic. So this wasn't a prank? His roommate was actually a cat? "I don't mind," he replied about the room, his voice flat and devoid of emotion. The antennae on his head curled forward, and his jaw clenched, and after another moment of blatant staring the Andorian retrieved the duffel bag from the floor and carried it into the remaining bedroom without another word. Eshryv was beginning to feel like whomever had ordered his assignment held a grudge against him. It was the only logical conclusion. A rundown station in the far-flung edges of space... A roommate that was not only a talking cat, but a cheerful talking cat... Next a bartender was going to tell him they only served replicated synthale, he just knew it. Tossing his bag on the bed, he tore it open and began to unpack, not even bothering to avoid the thuds, thunks and slams of doors and drawers as he did so.

[ Left Ear - Personal Quarters] Hmm. That wasn't a promising start. The Sivaoan's ears had flicked back briefly at the unemotional response from the Andorian. She wasn't familiar enough with their scents to make out what he was actually feeling. And apparently he didn't care to talk. Left Ear blew out a breath, the fur rippling slightly over her shoulders in a shrug, and returned to her room. She finished unloading her bags and began positioning plants. There was a tree for each corner, a couple of low bushes near the bed, and a pot with a creeping vine that she was hoping to encourage to grow up a lattice she would install on one wall. She headed back into the living area where a couple more trees waited for placement, but Left Ear thought it might be better to wait for her roommate's input. He might not like live plants in the living area (she couldn't imagine anyone actually objecting). She knew she'd probably pushed the boundaries by hanging her usefuls in the corner, but they were out of the way, if a little bright. Tag Syl O'Connell |

He paused once more, pleased to see that at least most of the plants had been moved out of sight. His antennae swivelled slightly as he moved to the replicator. "Katheka," he ordered, and a steaming mug materialized. Picking it up, he took a sip without waiting for it to cool and turned to survey the room again. At least she was keeping her belongings to one side... Leaving plenty of room or his own. It could definitely be worse.

[ Left Ear - Personal Quarters] Left Ear watched curiously as her roommate returned to the main room and ordered some sort of drink from the replicator. Unconsciously, her ears were mimicking his antennae as they swiveled. She knew that they were sensory organs on an Andorian and wondered if he were trying to sense things about her. Picking up one of the potted trees - it was about three feet tall - Left Ear glanced around the room. ' Do you mind if I put these around out here? I moved most of them to my room, but I really like to have plants around everywhere,' she explained. The Sivaoan resisted the urge to over-explain. ' I'm Left Ear to-Ennien, by the way. At least she asked... so resisting the urge to sigh, he nodded in resigned acceptance. "Those are fine," he replied tersely. When she introduced herself, he paused once more, blinking at her in disbelief. They were bunking him with a cadet? Next he supposed they would want him to be a shining example and teach her things. He had half a mind to report for duty and demand to know who he had offended and how much he would have to take before they decided they'd punished him enough. But none of that was her fault. It wasn't even his fault. So he kept his anger to himself, simmering steadily beneath the surface, as he took another drink and replied to the introduction. "Eshryv Th'oshaaran."

[ Left Ear - Personal Quarters] ' Esh-ryv Th'o-shaa-ran,' Left Ear repeated slowly, trying to make sure she was pronouncing it correctly. She actually found Andorian names easier to say generally than Human ones. The sounds worked better in her mouth. ' Nice to meet you,' she added, turning to leap up to the third tier of her little corner of usefuls. The lower levels were a little redundant, but it gave her the illusion of more options for lounging. She turned and settled into the colorful hammock, legs tucked under her and one hand draped over the edge. Not bad. She didn't like the ceiling being so close, but there was only so much one could do. The hammocks were a remnant of adolescence, but Left Ear found them difficult to give up in this alien environment. It was a decidedly Sivaoan thing that kept homesickness at bay. Tag Syl O'Connell |

He was definitely not expecting her to suddenly jump onto the third tier of the hammocks and get comfortable. Perhaps it wouldn't be so bad having them in the corner after all. As odd as they looked, if that was where she preferred to spend her time... It meant he had the rest of the furniture to himself. That he found to be quite pleasing. At least enough to indulge her in a moment of small talk. Taking another sip from his still steaming mug, he sat down on the Starfleet-standard couch. "Cadet. Second year?" It seemed odd to him that one would do their field training so far from the Academy. Though that was definitely not his decision to make. Nor did he want it to be. Except perhaps in this case, when he'd prefer to have a roommate he wouldn't be expected to babysit.

[ Left Ear - Personal Quarters] The Sivaoan's ears swiveled as she watched Eshryv choose a seat. When he asked about her training status, she had to think for a moment. Her tail flipped out over the edge of the hammock and dangled, twitching occasionally. ' Umm, not exactly,' Left Ear said finally. ' I came here as a healer and to help establish the Kerelian colony. I've been working in the civilian infirmary since I arrived. I'm doing a condensed, self-paced Academy under Captain Eastman's direction.' That was the best way she knew how to explain it. The goal was to have all of her course work completed in a few months, with the practical training and experiences interspersed and following for however long it took. Tag Syl O'Connell |

Not only was he stuck sitting someone who didn't know what they were doing, but someone who wasn't even being taught properly! And she was going to be a doctor? That didn't sound safe. He grunted a response, and it took him a few moments to think of something else to say. "The Captain must think highly of you." Unlike him. He'd never even met Captain Eastman, and it was already quite clear she hated him. The Andorian took another sip from his mug, turning his head to get a better look at the cat in the tree. He blinked once when he saw her tail dangling, the tip almost brushing the floor. It had to be at least as long as she was tall...

Eshryv's response hadn't sounded particularly complimentary, and she hadn't considered such an idea herself. ' She's certainly a challenging instructor,' Left Ear finally said, with some amusement. Unfortunately technology hadn't quite reached that point yet. "Yes," he replied, standing and moving back to the replicator. "I'm in Operations." Eshryv had assumed it was obvious he had just arrived on the stations. Perhaps cats needed as much clarification as humans did.

The Andorian didn't seem to really want to talk, but he could leave the room if that were the case. ' You'll have lots to do in Operations,' she finally said. ' Front Ear is an interesting place to be. So is Kerelia. It's always busy, too, even being so far from everywhere. Do you have a specialty? I don't understand how Operations really works. It seems to cover a lot of different areas, and even overlap with Engineering.' Her tail coiled again.
