[Matthew Harmon - LZ-1]
As Matt made his hasty escape from the treasure chamber, leaving Xoteak behind he was careful to watch where he stepped. He'd been slow and meticulous coming in, trying to avoid traps, but couldn't afford to be so slow this time so was trying to remember the way in as best he could. When he suddenly found a bundle of arms and legs trapped in a net he was quite surprised. He approached cautiously, unsure at first who it was. As he got closer, he recognised Enola, and then eventually Jurga and Bremmer. "You really need to be very careful about watching your steps in these places. They're often filled with traps, haven't you seen Indiana Jones?" he queried as he reached for his machete and approached to cut them out. "Brace yourselves," he warned as he finished cutting enough of a hole for them to spill out. "Get up, quick, before the Tritters smell us too much," he said offering them a hand up. "You can tell me what you're doing here on the way out."

[LTJG Chloe Hudson - The Shittle]=/\= Aye, ma'am, going to get Rin and Costa now. =/\=As soon as she recieved the order she took off again and followed Miren's directions towards Rin. It seemed some of the hunters had wisely begun to flee too. It only took a few minutes to reach the signal of Rin and Costa, but in those few precious minutes it seems the tritters had got to them first. "Get them both out, no time for asking Costa, get Rin out first," she ordered in case he wasn't able to lock onto both at once.

Unfortunately, the group in the tunnel hadn't anticipated that the booby trap had two phases to it. In fact, when weight was removed from the net - such as when any one of them left it - a trap door, well-hidden under thick layers of dirt, opened up right underneath, dropping them into a pit of mud. The group could certainly wonder about the remarkably moist spot into which at least some of them had been dumped, but the Tritters were now advancing slightly faster than before (perhaps they'd just finished devouring someone or other), so they had bigger concerns.

[ Jurgha, daughter of Khar - LZ-1] While Enola and Eliska produced a phaser, Jurgha shifted, trying to wriggle around to expose the hole she had made so they could reach it. All the while making no attempt to disguise her annoyance. That was when a human man approached from the opposite direction they had been going. Another Fleeter, judging by the tone of familiarity. Though no one had mentioned meeting up with someone else down here. He made quick work of finishing cutting through the net, and the next second they were on the floor in a tangled heap. Jurgha glared up at Harmon. “What are you doing here? And what about the treasure?” She quickly picked up her dagger and got to her feet. No sooner had she done so, however, when the floor gave way. With a grunt and a squelch, she landed in some kind of… mud pit!? With an annoyed hiss, she felt around for a light in vain. Eliska Bremmer Enola Matthew Harmon

[ PO3 Eliska Bremmer - Square, LZ-2 Colony -> LZ-1, Kerelia ][Ensign Enola - LZ-1 - Kerelia]
When the net lifted them up and pressed them against each other, Enola let out an annoyed Romulan snort. That was what they needed to be happy, wasn't it? But it was only a matter of seconds before she caught herself in her logic again. She raised her eyebrow critically while the Klingon was talking to Bremmer. Enola pulled her legs closer, so there was at least a little more room in the net and looked to see how she could help the Petty Officer get to the stuff that might help them out of their predicament. Since Bremmer's phaser was just within her reach, she grabbed it and then held it out to the security officer. "Your phaser". Then she shone her light on the spot where the Klingon had already worked on. It would only be logical to try there, where there was already some damage in the net.

Eliska Bremmer Enola Matthew Harmon No sooner had her phaser been drawn and put into her hand, that there he was, Mister Harmon himself. But he at least gave them a heads up before he cut the line that held them up. The impact on the ground was not too bad, and she managed to hold on to her hand phaser while not landing on top of her rifle, which would have been thoroughly unpleasant. However, the floor immediately gave way under them and she found herself landing in a pit of foul, stinking muck even before she could fully gather herself. The others were not nearly as heavily laden as she was, and getting up from the deck with as large a pack as she carried was always interesting. Returning her hand phaser to a thoroughly befouled holster, she looked up out of the pit. Well, that was not something they could climb without assistance all right. However, that was part of what she was packing all right. Unslinging her pack, she wasted no time in knowing precisely where to look and a collapsible field ladder was extracted. It was a simple thing, a length of telescoping tubing that, when extended, would deploy rungs on either side as to provide foot- and handholds. Federationers loved their technology all right, but she wasn't about to complain about the lightweight modern materials available thanks to them that let her carry not one but two of those devices. "Like the Sir said, we need to move on sooner rather than later," she said while climbing out of the pit. The muck was heavy on her uniform, caking her in a disgusting layer. Now with some luck its stench would mask her scent from the tritters... and speaking of which... "I'm hearing them back the way we came. We need another way out."

[Costa - Outskirts LZ-1, Kerelia]Costa snorted in response to the man's dry sense of humour, and then concentrated on plotting a route away from the hot zone in her mind while he spoke to Hudson. She wasn't stupid enough to want to hang around here while screams of terror were on the wind, but she always had to operate as though she'd have no back up. It was safer that way; and after all, she'd gone into this jungle alone. The whine of another shuttle drew her attention above, and she glanced upward just in time to see one of the Gin Fizz's shuttles make its exit. "Semówt..."[fn]"Smart."[/fn] She muttered, surprised that the moron from The Drunken Tritter had the wherewithal to get out of there, especially after all of his big talk in the bar. But then, the woman with him had seemed halfway rational, so it could very likely have been her influence. Either way, it was one less avenue of escape for Costa. "There's a series of caves 'bout two klicks eastward, hidden behind a waterfall. From wha' I remember, the tr-"She stopped talking immediately when she heard the scurries. She held up her fist, the universal gesture for "stop", to let the officer know her intention. Slowly, with a steady hand, she reached up to her disrupter and began changing several settings with a few deliberate, quiet taps. These creatures were too small and too quick to warrant one single, measured shot. She'd have to widen the beam and sacrifice accuracy in exchange for a spread of damage. The sound of hundreds of claws scrabbling through the undergrowth and up trunks of great trees had begun to surround her. Her bare arms broke out in goose-bumps and every instinct in her was telling her to run. But she knew better than that. In a smooth motion she brought her weapon upward, pointing toward the tops of the trees. Flashes of skin, reminding her of pink, uncooked chicken, intermittently blocked the sunlight as hordes of tritters sprang from one branch to another, speeding toward the source of the screams. "Ugliest ting I ever saw," she remarked conversationally then, just as one tritter, then another, then two more, dropped from above to investigate the two strange humanoids. "And my engineer is a fat nudist." The flow of the others continued above and around them, the large, group targets for the majority of the ornery little murderers of much more consequence than the two of them. But that would change, especially when Costa opened fire. "Gútegow."[fn]"Ready."[/fn]
Tag: Rin Zakir [ Ensign Rin Zakir - The Jungle - Kerelia] Zak remained on full alert, knowing that the tritters would likely not be content to all head off in the same direction. Chances are, they had already picked up on their technology, meaning that they wouldn't be safe for long. Not like those who were now taking off in shuttles, which was a smart move if they didn't want to be dinner. That didn't help him much though. Just after he had finished the call to Hudson and the two had begun to move on, Costa stopped him in his tracks, just as she had been in the middle of discussing a nearby cave system. He would perhaps never know what she had been about to suggest, as the sounds of claws began growing closer. He too immediately began to calibrate his phaser, not intending to stop and fight but hoping to give himself and perhaps Costa a head start. he would just have to hope the others had a lock on him, as he wasn't about to hang around these co ordinated for too much longer. As they came into view, he snorted at Costa's comment. If he had to die hear, he really hoped the last thing he saw was not the image of a fat nudist. "Only a face a mother could love", he agreed on the tritters. Run and shoot, if the hoard catch up, we're goners if we hang around trying to shoot them all!", he suggested urgently. With the jungle undergrowth, that wouldn't be as easy as it had been in the cave (not that that had been a walk in the park either). If he stumbled or, Prophets forbid, tripped, he'd had it! First, he had to know where they were, as if they dropped from above, even one would hurt quite a bit if it started tearing at his flesh. So when Costa opened fire, he backed off a few paces before doing the same. He would much rather have just gotten out of there, rather than making them angrier, but what was done was done. He just hoped it would buy them those extra few seconds, so that it would be worth it! "RUN!", he shouted to his companion, hoping that she wouldn't be stupid enough to take on any more that turned up to defend their comrades.

[ Ensign Enola - Square, LZ-2 Colony -> LZ-1, Kerelia ] Enola was amazed when Harmon showed up and could hardly hold back from saying a completely inappropriate 'Fascinating' But no sooner was she on the ground, the ground gave way, and ... No, she had never seen the Indiana Jones movies, and she had absolutely no desire to. She took a deep breath in the mud pit and would have liked to fall over. Vulcans (especially Vulcan women) had particularly fine noses, and despite the fact that she had her sense of smell under control with medication so that living with humans was bearable, the stench in here really sucked. Probably even worse than the smell of Tellarites.... But Enola did as a Vulcan would do, and raised her eyebrow. After Bremmer climbed up, Enola glanced at the Klingon. "After you."

[ Ilario Matteus Alfonse Vierdeau - Jungle, vicinity of LZ-1, Kerelia ]{Quoted Posts} [Staz Volkova - Kerelia - LZ-1]From her vantage point, she could see the grey writhing mass moving far too quickly along the forest floor. It didn't take an expert to realize that even the trees weren't safe. Quickly sheathing her knife - it would do no good against so many of anything - she leapt from her branch. Grabbing hold of another with both hands, she swung her body forward as far as momentum could carry her before dropping to the ground and running back towards the shuttles. The bark has scraped up the palms of both hands, but she ignored the sting as she followed a couple steps behind the other hunters that were making a run for it. As they made it into the clearing, her 'partner' and his team filed into one shuttle, and she ran for the one behind it. The moment she made it inside, Staz sealed the hatch and took the pilot's chair. Cursing under her breath, she brought the engines back online, grateful the technology was at least similar to what she had grown up using. Forget the treasure. She doubted it actually existed anyway. The moment the engines were ready, she engaged the thrusters, lifting off above the canopy and turning the shuttle towards the horizon, intent on breaking orbit and not looking back. That fancy space station would just have to do...
Soft tags Eliska Bremmer Matthew Harmon Costa would find a group of Tritters come closer and closer, not so much heading towards her, but passing near her, too close for comfort. For Vierdeau's unfortunate group of hunters, there was a much bigger, much more frightening, group to deal with. Though these Tritters were more attracted to the shuttle, they wouldn't exactly be merciful to anyone in their path. When a member of this group got snared, all that was left was a hairband - a frightful sight for the others.
Tag Anastazia Volkova , Eliska Bremmer (Fizz Weasel), Charlie Fox (Costa), Rin Zakir The crew of the Calypso was at a dead run through the jungle, but theirs was not a fight all of them would survive. The first one to be caught was a young woman named Petra Simkins who had once been a botany officer, but as it turned out she had found a particular botanical that she had enjoyed more than she should have and found herself cashiered after she had started growing some in the Exeter's hydroponics bay and selling it at a profit on the side. On this particular trip she had hoped to find the exact same kind of plant, but what she had instead found was tritters. One landing on her at its full speed as not that bad, but it had jarred her step enough that others caught up and her shrill screams sounded for a distressingly long time before her throat was ripped open and before long all that was left was a brass wire hairband. And, she was but the first. Some of her crewmates turned around and tried to open fire, but there simply were too many of them to repulse even though they briefly stemmed the tide. But in the end, they too were overwhelmed and shredded by the fury of the hairless monstrosities. Less than half of Alphonse's landing party had made it back to their shuttles... just in case to see the woman who had accompanied them hopping into the nearest craft and leaving him and his survivors to file in, at least, into his personal shuttle... just in time to see her take off! Who the hell did she think she was, to steal from him! Oh, she was going to pay for this! But at this point in time, the Bosun hopped into the pilot's seat given the coaxswain was now making his way through a Tritter's digestive tract, but he found himself swearing a blue streak as the shuttle was rocking by the wave of tritters swarming it and trying to claw their way in. "Just go, just take off!" Vierdeau was screaming, intent to get out of there. However, it would appear that a truly unlucky tritter found itself sucked into one of the thruster intakes and the whole system simply would not ignite...
tag Anastazia Volkova Judith Eastman The shuttle, struggling and failing to take off, was a heck of a tritter magnet. Many congregated around it, trying to force their way in, or otherwise tell it apart. However, this did not provide much (or any) relief to others in the jungle, especially those underground.

[Lt. JG Cerjess Miren - Kerelia - Shuttle]It took longer than Miren wanted to filter out all the bio signs except for those he was looking for. Or perhaps the seconds just felt like minutes. Finally there was an uplifting chirp from his console. "I've got Rin!" he reported, and a moment later the transporter whirred and the back of the shuttle filled with blue light. Cerjess wasn't done yet, though. The moment the Bajoran solidified behind him, he locked onto the human signal still in the jungle. "And Costa." Again the whir and the blue, and the scientist released a heavy breath of relief. This was so not what he had signed up for today... "Everyone alright back there?" he asked, glancing over his shoulder at the two.

Tag Eliska Bremmer The sheer mass and savagery of the tritters was enough to start rocking the shuttle; their claws and fangs against the hull were making a unholy racket, and Ilario Matteus Alfonse Vierdeau was fairly screaming in a much more high pitched voice than he would ever care to admit. At the helm, the Bosun was swearing a blue streak as he was fighting against a thruster system that simply would not ignite because it was blocked from the outside... and no way in hell anyone was opening the hatch! But then, the nearly panicking fellow at the helm had just had enough and he actually had to run a few overrides, and then the shuttle blasted off the ground as a brutal wave of heat from expanding plasma flooded from the shuttle's impulse drive, and what it would do to the tritters, and the surrounding woodland, was very definitely a secondary concern to immediate survival.

Inside the tunnels, it would soon become apparent to the stranded group that the tunnel would not provide them an escape, as tritters were closing in on them. The only way out would be through... or down; in any case, some ingenuity would be required.
Tag Matthew Harmon , Enola , Eliska Bremmer , Shavan Th'zhaar [Capt. That left one unit to deal with the Tritters themselves. =A= "Eastman to Hudson. Once you've extracted Rin and Costa, set up some kind of distraction. We have a team stranded in a tunnel under LZ-1." =A= She added the last comment to illustrate a sense of urgency to the task at hand. =A= "And be careful. Again the whir and the blue, and the scientist released a heavy breath of relief. This was so not what he had signed up for today... "Everyone alright back there?" he asked, glancing over his shoulder at the two. [Costa - Jungle -> Shuttle]RUN!? There was no running from these four-legged fiends. Maybe this sodzha[fn]Fleeter[/fn] was just an optimist, or, more likely, he'd never actually seen these things in the flesh before. And fleshy they were. In reality she knew she'd never escape them on foot; one bound from one of these creatures could easily cover several of her strides. But she was stepping backwards all the same, and shot one, then two bursts of fire as she moved. Perhaps if they split up at least one of them would have a chance... But who? When the officer began to run, she guessed she'd drawn the imagined short straw. She reached a hand down into the belt of her combat trousers, fingers closing around the device she'd shoved down there only minutes ago. The pad of her index finger passed over the sensor, activating the short boot-up sequence. As if on cue, the tritters closest to her began to screech in pain. Costa clenched her teeth at the sound, jaw tightening automatically. Then she tugged the handheld, waved it in front of her, and tossed it back into the brush. A handful of the creatures dove after it. Then, she ran. Ahead of her, the Fleeter disappeared, wrapped up in the familiar blue transporter beam. She began to count down in her head once more. By the time she got to three, a tritter had dropped from the canopy above and embedded its claws into her right shoulder. By the time four followed, she was screaming just as loudly as they were, and when five rolled around, she was going down. The ground rushed up to meet her face and she mentally braced, but six saw her suspended in mid air, mere inches from the dark brown of Kerelia's earth, and then she crashed into the cold, grey floor of the shuttle. Costa had been an engineer by trade, so later she might have a few guesses as to why she'd rematerialised with a tritter attached to her back. Their physiology was so different, perhaps there was a blindspot. Or maybe the limited capabilities of the shuttle could not discern or effectively separate her biosignature from the tritter's, particularly as it was stuck to her, like a nightmarish parasite. Whatever the reason, everyone onboard was about to meet one of the creatures up close and personal. She was on her feet immediately, flinging herself against a bulkhead that separated the back of the shuttle from the cockpit, roaring murder all the while. She kept banging herself, over and over, until she felt the grip finally loosen. It was just enough. Costa reached around, her hand closing around its spindly neck. She began to pull mercilessly. The tritter's claws, still deep within her shoulder, were being dragged, tearing her already punctured skin. Her cry of pain was desperate but she didn't stop, not until she was free of her little passenger. She backed herself into the bulkhead again, and with one last tug, it was done. With a furious curse she used the momentum she'd created to pull it over her shoulder and fling it to the ground. Her disrupter was in her hand before the thought was in her head and she fired into the tritter's open mouth as it scrambled, screamed at her, and prepared to pounce again. Mid-air, it fell, but it wasn't dead. Not caring in that moment for safety protocols or where she was, she took aim again. She was going to melt that thing from the inside out.

[LTJG Chloe Hudson - The Shittle]
Everything was happening so fast, the Captain was issuing further orders, apparently the forest was on fire now, and they needed to cause a distraction. At least some good news then came from Miren who pronounced he'd gotten Rin and Costa. Chloe sighed in relief, but that feeling was quickly disrupted by the horrible sounds of a tritter on board and apparently trying to eat Costa. "Shit! Miren, help her!" she ordered as she tried to keep focusing on staying in the air. "Rin, you alive?" She began heading towards LZ-1 and begun trying to think of some way to cause a distraction to draw the tritters away from the officers that were apparently in the tunnel.

[Matthew Harmon - LZ-1] In his hurry to cut free the unexpected party he had stumbled on, Matt had failed to notice that the trap was more advanced than a simple net. Before he could respond to the stereotypically ungracious Klingon he found himself having been dropped into a pit of mud. Bremmer, had luckily packed quite a bit including a ladder apparently and began to help get them out. However, as Matt was waiting for his turn on the ladder he noticed markings on the wall that were familiar. They were similar to other markings he’d encountered that opened passages when a special ancient key shaped like a small claw was inserted into some indents. Fortunately, he had managed to secure one of the few surviving known keys from his Kurjarian contacts when he decided to go on this expedition. In the distance, he could hear that the tritters were bearing down on them. If they were to go up and back the way they came they’d be faced with far too many of the hungry beasts. Praying his key would work, he inserted into the markings in the wall, breathing a sigh of relief as the wall opened up to reveal a hidden chamber. “It’s too late to go that way, the tritters are everywhere. The only way out is through,” he called out to them. Or at least hiding somewhere safe and hoping they were found and rescued before they starved. “In here,” he beckoned. Ensign Rin Zakir - Jungle -> Shuttle - Kerelia] Maybe it was pointless, hopeless even, but so was standing waiting to be eaten alive. He was no coward, but at least there was a minute chance of somehow escaping their pursuers, at least until they could be beamed out. Zak really hoped that they would, otherwise he'd feel a bit silly dying like a coward. Good thing he wasn't a Klingon, cos he suspected he wouldn't be getting into Sto'vo'Kor! As he did so, he once again pulled out his tricorder, hoping that he could maybe use it as a distraction. It wasn't a bad idea, or at least it hadn't been when the tritters were behind him, but now he could see them up ahead as well, and his heart sank. Oh well, nothing for it but to go out fighting after all! Thankfully, that was when he felt the familiar pull of the transporter beam, just as had managed to get a hand onto his phaser. He had never been so relieved to see his surroundings change, now on board a shuttle with Hudson and Miren. Costa followed shortly after, though she had not arrived alone. As he blinked to adjust to his new surroundings, he watched as she tore a tritter from her shoulder, screaming as its claws shredded at her flesh. It all happened so fast, that it took until the thing was on the ground and she was about to fire her disrupter to finish it off. Once again, and in a closed space. Good one. "In here, are you crazy?", he shouted, already guessing the answer. They obviously needed to get rid of the thing quickly, but preferably without blowing holes in the bulkhead. "Yeah, somehow, thank the Prophets! Oh, and thank you guys too, of course.", he answered Hudson's question, a small smile appearing upon the second part of his statement. He then turned to Miren, once the worst of the commotion began to die down. "A round each, I think", he commented on their earlier conversation, already owing the man the same favour he had yet to cash in on himself. "How does it look", he then asked regarding Costa's injured shoulder. It was obvious that she wasn't alright, so he chose not to ask that, instead turning his attention to how bad her injuries could be. he was at least trained in first aid and basic field medicine, but it was likely that the science officer had further knowledge still.
