On the station, the crew had identified two shuttles headed away from the fire. They didn't have enough to charge them, but they did have enough to apprehend them. [NPC - Lt. j.g. Glenn Abbott - Calypso]Lieutenant Abbott was in charge of the team that was sent, at the last minute, to board the Calypso and intercept one of her shuttles. He could only blame Henriksen, the Captain's pet, for thinking a civilian vessel could be boarded and seized in 90 seconds. With enough phasers, Glenn did just that, and was ready to stride onto the shuttle just as it boarded, with two others behind him. "Don't get up, I'm not an ED hypo," he snapped, in a crisp Boston accent. "I'm sure you use plenty of those."

The tritters that were mobbing the shuttle and the charred ground around quickly proved precisely why. Something about superheated plasma exhaust, nearly as hot as the surface of a star, tended to do very bad things to whatever was caught in the immediate area. The tritters nearest the drives were evaporated, but the thermal bloom, even without direct contact with the plume of plasma, was enough to incinerate others and send their cinders flying on the swirling air currents. And, despite the vegetation nearby having already been reduced to ash, it was enough to start another fire outside of the already cleared radius. But, when survival was the name of the game, then rules, well, rules were already made for breaking so far as Vierdeau and his crew were concerned. Before long, they out of the atmosphere, and a semi-panicked order saw his private luxury shuttle heading for the bay on the Calypso, easily accessible as she was docked at one of the station's external ports. In fact, he damn well had to be sure to get his other shuttle back as well, but that would be secondary. He needed out of this system all right! =V= "Calypso, this is Vierdeau. Prepare to leave the system as soon as we're docked,"=V=A he ordered as they were in transit. Not that his orders meant much, given that a sizable Security detail had boarded them and swarmed the ship, seizing the Bridge and Engineering with true Starfleet efficiency and had the crew that remained aboard gathered up and secured in the messhall even before the shuttle set down on the deck. Then, even before the Bosun could do it, the hatch opened and some Fleeter stormed in. And, despite his demands, Ilario rose to his feet, and fairly shouted. "Just who the hell do you think you are? What the hell are you doing on my ship?"

[ Jurgha, daughter of Khar - LZ-1] With a loud squelch, and with no objection to going before the Vulcan, Jurgha pulled herself out of the muck and started up the ladder. She had only taken a few steps, however, when Harmon moved towards the wall, and at the same time she heard the shrieking and skittering that meant the tritters were right above them. “Foul little beasts.” A thought occurred to her. “What if we use the traps against them? Bait them into falling in the mud pit.” Wasn’t there a frequency that attracted them? It was not the most honorable way to kill them, but these traps were more suited to vermin than their band of warriors. Surely the creatures would not get out so easily. Though she did also agree with going on through the tunnels. Dropping off the ladder, she quickly crossed over to the new chamber and followed Harmon inside. Eliska Bremmer Enola Matthew Harmon

The only way out would be through... or down; in any case, some ingenuity would be required.

Judith Eastman(-Williams), PhD - LZ-1]Outside, Judy received a report from Mabel about a large wildfire that had just been started... by plasma emissions congruent with an impulse engine firing off. =A= "Send all our available shuttles to stop that fire," =A= she ordered, her voice hoarse from the earlier screaming. That left one unit to deal with the Tritters themselves. =A= "Eastman to Hudson. Once you've extracted Rin and Costa, set up some kind of distraction. We have a team stranded in a tunnel under LZ-1." =A= She added the last comment to illustrate a sense of urgency to the task at hand. =A= "And be careful. Some putzhead started a wildfire." =A= Chloe knew Judy well enough to know that when the Yiddishisms came out, things were bad.
Tag Matthew Harmon [ Ensign Enola - Square, LZ-2 Colony -> LZ-1, Kerelia ] Enola was amazed when Harmon showed up and could hardly hold back from saying a completely inappropriate 'Fascinating' But no sooner was she on the ground, the ground gave way, and ... No, she had never seen the Indiana Jones movies, and she had absolutely no desire to. She took a deep breath in the mud pit and would have liked to fall over. Vulcans (especially Vulcan women) had particularly fine noses, and despite the fact that she had her sense of smell under control with medication so that living with humans was bearable, the stench in here really sucked. Probably even worse than the smell of Tellarites.... But Enola did as a Vulcan would do, and raised her eyebrow. After Bremmer climbed up, Enola glanced at the Klingon. "After you."
Tag Shavan Th'zhaar (Jurgha) Eliska Bremmer Matthew Harmon [Matthew Harmon - LZ-1] In his hurry to cut free the unexpected party he had stumbled on, Matt had failed to notice that the trap was more advanced than a simple net. Before he could respond to the stereotypically ungracious Klingon he found himself having been dropped into a pit of mud. Bremmer, had luckily packed quite a bit including a ladder apparently and began to help get them out. However, as Matt was waiting for his turn on the ladder he noticed markings on the wall that were familiar. They were similar to other markings he’d encountered that opened passages when a special ancient key shaped like a small claw was inserted into some indents. Fortunately, he had managed to secure one of the few surviving known keys from his Kurjarian contacts when he decided to go on this expedition. In the distance, he could hear that the tritters were bearing down on them. If they were to go up and back the way they came they’d be faced with far too many of the hungry beasts. Praying his key would work, he inserted into the markings in the wall, breathing a sigh of relief as the wall opened up to reveal a hidden chamber. “It’s too late to go that way, the tritters are everywhere. The only way out is through,” he called out to them. Or at least hiding somewhere safe and hoping they were found and rescued before they starved. “In here,” he beckoned. Eliska Bremmer Enola Matthew Harmon The stench of the muck wasn't quite enough to prevent the smell from the horde of tritters heading their way from reaching Bremmer's nose and she brought her rifle to her shoulder. The corridor was narrow; if she raised the setting enough, she might be able to kill enough to form a temporary barrier that would buy them some time... but somehow she doubted she'd be able to do so. She could also collapse the ceiling, but she was no structural engineer and could very well bring the whole cave down on their heads. Oh, how she should've requested to be sent with the Mac on that colony milk run! She would have been with Syl and not covered in mud in some damned cave about to be eaten by those monstrosities. Sure, they would be limited as to how much time they could spend together, but if one of the Captains and the Second Officer could be a couple, who was to say a pilot and a security crewman couldn't be together either? At one time, she would've been ready to die with a smile on her face and a song on her lips. But now? She just wanted to get a few glasses of vodka and curl up with Syl and be anywhere else but in the face of danger. She barely heard Harmon as he talked, but she did feel the rumbling of stone on stone and she briefly looked over her shoulder to see an opening in the wall at the bottom of the pit. Where had that come from? And he wanted them in there? Well, it beat getting eaten! Just as the wave of tritters became visible, Eliska jumped back down in the pit and fairly dove into the door before turning around to point her weapon at it. "Mister Harmon, Sir, I hope you can close this damn thing! Rest of you, set phasers to kill and get ready to at will!"Granted, she couldn't really give orders to anyone in that group except maybe the Klingon, but she was the one trained for this sort of things, and it would look really bad if she didn't take the right measures to keep everyone alive! And then, the first of the slavering beasts had hopped down into the pit and it was met by the lurid glow and shriek of a single shot from Eliska's rifle.

How dare that Starfleet jackboot not only board his ship, but double-board him by forcing his way into Ilario Matteus Alfonse Vierdeau's private shuttle no less! And calling him an arsonist? Seriously? They had ever so carefully created themselves a landing zone, making certain to not damage any more than was absolutely necessary! And now he was supposed to be taken into custody! Well, perhaps his crew were being forced into cuffs at phaserpoint, but no such weapon was in Ilario's face, so he most certainly was not going to follow quietly! "I don't bloody think so! This is absolutely intolerable! And arson? Yes, we were forced to escape the surface under impulse power, but like hell we were going to stay there to be eaten by those monstrosities! That was self-defence so I refuse to submit to a patently illegal arrest and I demand you release my crew at once and get the hell of my ship!"As he spoke, he had started with his voice fairly level, but as he protested his tone grew shrill and querulous. But he didn't really care how the Fleeter would take it, only that he would learn his damn place!

[Staz Volkova - 'Borrowed' Shuttle ---> Front Ear Shuttleport]It wasn't until she had found the coordinates for the Federation station and set the shuttle for autopilot that Staz allowed herself to relax in the seat. A quick scan showed the other shuttle leaving the planet, heading in the same direction. Looked like she wasn't lucky enough to escape that arrogant man after all. Oh well, she'd deal with him as she did all her problems. Though she was mildly surprised he didn't attempt to contact her. Not like she would have answered... Docking at the shuttle port was a bit more tricky, as she only had minimal experience piloting and most of her landings had been planetside. But with only a couple minor bumps against the hull, she set down and disengaged the engines. The welcoming committee waiting for her when she opened the hatch was definitely not expected, and she scoffed at the remark about her looking like someone who would start a forest fire. What the hell had that idiot done after she left? "Obviously you don't know what you're looking at," she crawled in her native language, letting the universal translators do their job. "I'm not stupid." But her former partner? He was definitely stupid.

JG Cerjess Miren - Kerelia - Shuttle]The gentle hum of the transporter was suddenly replaced by a chorus of demonic screams, and Cerjess jumped to his feet and spun around to see Costa frantically trying to dislodge something her back. Chloe's voice was drowned out by the commotion, but the scientist didn't need to be told to get that thing as far away from them as possible. Spinning back to his console, he once again accessed the transporter controls, and as the vicious rodent struck the deck he locked onto it and beamed it out. Where it rematerialized, he didn't particularly care. Slouching back into the chair, he nodded in agreement at Rin's comment about another round of drinks. "Though back at the station, I think." He'd had enough of that planet for a couple months, and he wasn't the one who'd almost been eaten.

Everything was happening so fast, the Captain was issuing further orders, apparently the forest was on fire now, and they needed to cause a distraction. At least some good news then came from Miren who pronounced he'd gotten Rin and Costa. Chloe sighed in relief, but that feeling was quickly disrupted by the horrible sounds of a tritter on board and apparently trying to eat Costa. "Shit! Miren, help her!" she ordered as she tried to keep focusing on staying in the air. "Rin, you alive?" She began heading towards LZ-1 and begun trying to think of some way to cause a distraction to draw the tritters away from the officers that were apparently in the tunnel. Ensign Rin Zakir - Jungle -> Shuttle - Kerelia] Maybe it was pointless, hopeless even, but so was standing waiting to be eaten alive. He was no coward, but at least there was a minute chance of somehow escaping their pursuers, at least until they could be beamed out. Zak really hoped that they would, otherwise he'd feel a bit silly dying like a coward. Good thing he wasn't a Klingon, cos he suspected he wouldn't be getting into Sto'vo'Kor! As he did so, he once again pulled out his tricorder, hoping that he could maybe use it as a distraction. It wasn't a bad idea, or at least it hadn't been when the tritters were behind him, but now he could see them up ahead as well, and his heart sank. Oh well, nothing for it but to go out fighting after all! Thankfully, that was when he felt the familiar pull of the transporter beam, just as had managed to get a hand onto his phaser. He had never been so relieved to see his surroundings change, now on board a shuttle with Hudson and Miren. Costa followed shortly after, though she had not arrived alone. As he blinked to adjust to his new surroundings, he watched as she tore a tritter from her shoulder, screaming as its claws shredded at her flesh. It all happened so fast, that it took until the thing was on the ground and she was about to fire her disrupter to finish it off. Once again, and in a closed space. Good one. "In here, are you crazy?", he shouted, already guessing the answer. They obviously needed to get rid of the thing quickly, but preferably without blowing holes in the bulkhead. "Yeah, somehow, thank the Prophets! Oh, and thank you guys too, of course.", he answered Hudson's question, a small smile appearing upon the second part of his statement. He then turned to Miren, once the worst of the commotion began to die down. "A round each, I think", he commented on their earlier conversation, already owing the man the same favour he had yet to cash in on himself. "How does it look", he then asked regarding Costa's injured shoulder. It was obvious that she wasn't alright, so he chose not to ask that, instead turning his attention to how bad her injuries could be. he was at least trained in first aid and basic field medicine, but it was likely that the science officer had further knowledge still. [Lt. JG Cerjess Miren - Kerelia - Shuttle]The gentle hum of the transporter was suddenly replaced by a chorus of demonic screams, and Cerjess jumped to his feet and spun around to see Costa frantically trying to dislodge something her back. Chloe's voice was drowned out by the commotion, but the scientist didn't need to be told to get that thing as far away from them as possible. Spinning back to his console, he once again accessed the transporter controls, and as the vicious rodent struck the deck he locked onto it and beamed it out. Where it rematerialized, he didn't particularly care. Slouching back into the chair, he nodded in agreement at Rin's comment about another round of drinks. "Though back at the station, I think." He'd had enough of that planet for a couple months, and he wasn't the one who'd almost been eaten. [Costa - Shuttle Shittle]Costa paid no attention to the shouting, or the chatter about drinks and other random things going on around her, because she was, y'know, trying not to die. But she did notice when the creature that was fixing to tear her to shreds was transported off the shuttle. She turned an intense glare toward the young officer at the console, and slowly lowered her disrupter. "Thanks," she told him, before lowering herself to the floor, with none of the grace she'd shown before. Chest rising and falling and barely able to catch her breath, she pulled her flask from her belt and took a swig of the rum within. She coughed, some of it going down the wrong hatch due to her laboured breathing, but that didn't stop her from taking more. Ah yeah, her shoulder. At the question from the Security officer she looked down at herself for the first time, noticing that half of her top had been torn or was just simply missing. There was blood everywhere; her face, hair, running its hot trail down her back, staining the remainder of her clothes. And when she felt that warmth, the rest of the feeling returned to her. She pulled the shoulder upward in what should have been a shrug, but the tug on the remaining, tattered skin was too much for her to continue the movement and a cold sweat broke out on her brow. "Well, been worse," she answered honestly, recalling that her first trek into that jungle had resulted in her being unconscious for quite some time. Something dark caught her eye then and she reached into one of her wounds. "Ooh. Souvenir." With a grimace and a groan, she pulled a sharp, black claw that had been embedded just beneath her clavicle. She held it up victoriously for a moment, then pocketed it. "What now?" She asked the shuttle at large, wondering what most of them were even doing out here in the first place. As far as she was concerned, there was still treasure to be found. She held out her flask to Rin, offering him a celebratory survival shot.

[Staz Volkova - 'Borrowed' Shuttle ---> Front Ear Shuttleport]It wasn't until she had found the coordinates for the Federation station and set the shuttle for autopilot that Staz allowed herself to relax in the seat. A quick scan showed the other shuttle leaving the planet, heading in the same direction. Looked like she wasn't lucky enough to escape that arrogant man after all. Oh well, she'd deal with him as she did all her problems. Though she was mildly surprised he didn't attempt to contact her. Not like she would have answered... Docking at the shuttle port was a bit more tricky, as she only had minimal experience piloting and most of her landings had been planetside. But with only a couple minor bumps against the hull, she set down and disengaged the engines. The welcoming committee waiting for her when she opened the hatch was definitely not expected, and she scoffed at the remark about her looking like someone who would start a forest fire. What the hell had that idiot done after she left? "Obviously you don't know what you're looking at," she crawled in her native language, letting the universal translators do their job. "I'm not stupid." But her former partner? He was definitely stupid. [NPCs - PO2 Kevin McDonough & PO2 Alex Espada - Shuttleport, Front Ear Station]"No one's calling you stupid, just a suspected arsonist," Kevin replied, at once defensive and snarky. "Let's take this party to the Brig."With Alex brandishing a phaser, Kevin restrained the woman's arms behind her back. "You have a right to remain silent. Anything you say can and will be used against you in a court of law. You have the right to an attorney; if you cannot afford one, one will be appointed to you at no cost. Do you understand these rights as they have been read to you?""Something tells me it's not your first time," Alex joked. If she didn't resist, the woman would soon find herself in a nice, spacious brig cell, with no cellmate... yet.

He'd received a complaint or thirty from colleagues for inappropriate workplace language, but he couldn't be bothered to help it. "You have the right to remain silent, and you'd be wise to use it. Same for your right to a lawyer - DaiMon Djerk will take you for sure."Not that Glenn knew of Djerk's particular criteria for clients, but the name fit into the joke. The security crew dumped the arsonists into cells, with cellmates involved in other crimes, until they came to the head arsonist. "We'll put you in with her," Glenn snapped, nudging the annoying man into the cell where, not a minute before, McDonough and Espada had put the brunette woman. The Bostonian walked out, leaving the prisoners to it.

[ Ensign Enola - LZ-1 ] Enola waited patiently until the Klingon climbed out of the mud pit, but kept an eye on her the whole time. When she reached the top, the part-Vulcan briefly wiped off the most disgusting mud and then set about getting to the top herself. And as quickly as possible. Once at the top, she briefly oriented herself and then looked back and forth between Bremmer, Harmon and the still unknown Klingon before wondering if phasers on kill was really necessary. Actually, she wasn't a fan of setting the phasers to kill at all and only used the highest stun setting, but .... whatever. She was an intelligence officer, not a security officer, and Bremmer was the one who knew best how to handle such situations. So Enola didn't think long but set her phasers to kill under a critical look and an uneasy feeling.
