[Staz Volkova - Front Ear]Receiving an encrypted message to her room in the Twilight Hotel mere days after being released from the brig was more than enough to cause concern. The Ochiran's first instinct was to leave the message unopened, grab her bag and hitch a ride on the first ship leaving the station. But there was a deeper curiosity, a flicker of hope that maybe it had been sent by another survivor. It took several tries for her to decode the message, and had been about to give up in frustration when the computer alerted her to its task being complete. Reading a job offer was actually disappointing, but it sounded easy enough. Who was this Charlie Fox, and why would someone want her personal logs? But more importantly... Who knew the recent arrival on the station had the skills to get them? That was the answer she needed the most, and in order to find out, her best option was to complete the job. So her next couple of days had been spent deep in the station's data banks, researching everything she could find about her target. A humam journalist... Not employed by Starfleet... Unlikely to cause problems if she found out who stole her logs. When she felt sufficiently armed with knowledge, Staz strapped her dagger to her belt, hidden by her jacket, grabbed what devices she would need, and decided to begin. "Computer, locate Charlie Fox.""Charlie Fox is in the Federation News Network Headquarters."Perfect. It was a short trip to the civilian decks, where she strode down the corridor as though on her way to visit a friend. Stopping at Charlie's door, she rang the chime, glancing casually around to make sure no one was in sight. When there was no answer, and she verified no one was watching, she pulled a device from her pocket and pressed it against the seam of the door. A press of a button, the hiss of depressurization, and the locked unsealed, allowing her to slide the doors apart just long enough for her to slip inside. It relocked behind her, and she put the device back in her pocket, and turned to look around the room. Now... If she were a journalist... Where would she keep her personal logs?

"I'm working on it.""That is exactly what you said last month," Spil replied, his face seemingly calm and devoid of emotion, yet his tone of voice suggested he was mildly irritated. Standard, really. "I'm still working on it. There, I changed it."The truth was that Charlie hadn't been able to complete the piece. It had been three months of staring at blank screens and off into the abyss of the memories of The Pit, and she had yet to produce more than one sentence: "I wanted to die there."Not exactly the impersonal tone Spil was expecting. The Vulcan steepled his fingers; a sure sign that he was about to launch into a long, boring lecture. At that moment, most fortuitously, her PADD pinged. She pulled it from the interior pocket of her jacket and when she glanced quickly down at the screen, she saw footage of a dark-haired woman in her quarters, courtesy of Olsen. "... There is no shame in admitting that you require emotional assistance..."Charlie watched the figure on-screen, eyes narrowing. Who was she? What did she want? "... After traumatic experiences humans often are rendered incapable of performing the simplest of tasks...""Hm? Oh yeah, sure Spil. I gotta go, catch you later. Good talk." She finally looked up at the rambling Editor, gave a half-hearted wave, and then walked straight out, gaze glued to the PADD's screen the whole time. *** [Charlie's Personal Quarters]With absolutely no pause or preamble, Charlie walked right into her accommodations armed with just a PADD and sardonic smile. Not allowing the doors to swoosh closed she leaned up against the archway and called out, "Honey, I'm home!"

[Staz Volkova - Front Ear - Charlie's Quarters]Whatever Staz had been expecting when her eyes adjusted to the darkness, the utter disaster of the living quarters had not been it. Of course, she was well acquainted with messes of varying degrees, but no one on Ochira even owned this much stuff, let alone had it all spread out in the open. That was just inviting theft. For a long moment she stood there, staring around at the piles of padds and clothes, wondering which one to start with. That padds was the obvious choice, but as she rifled through them it quickly became obvious they were mostly journalism-related. Of course... She probably kept her personal padds somewhere separate from her work padds. Now the question was, where? The Ochiran was halfway through a pile of clothes when the door slid open and a voice called out from behind her. Jumping at the sound, she cursed in her native tongue and spun to face the woman whom she knew from pictures only, momentarily forgetting the undergarment in her hand. Think... Think... "Oi, Charlie, righ'?" She spoke in Federation Standard, her heavy accent coloring her words. "I ned a copy of yohr personal logs." The message from her 'employer' didn't say anything about secrecy or discretion, after all.

[Charlie Fox - Private Quarters]Charlie was not expecting that. If she hadn't been so caught off-guard (somehow even more than the discovery that someone had broken into her quarters), she probably would have laughed at the straightforward cheek of it all. Instead she blinked, rapidly, several times, as her brain rushed to try and catch up with what this bizarrely honest woman was saying. Or at least, it appeared to be an honest answer. But Charlie had no idea what could be worse than stealing her personal log. Well, stealing Olsen would be much worse, but this thief obviously had no idea of her drone's existence. "That'll have to be a no, sweetheart," Charlie responded. She held up a hand and curled it into a fist. Olsen whirred into action from his little hidey-hole next to the sparse drinks cabinet, and flew across the room to hover beside her. "But if you want to stay for a chat, I'd be willing to listen."She assumed the threat was clear but she still remained in the doorway, ready to bolt if the woman pulled a weapon.

[Staz Volkova - Front Ear - Charlie's Quarters]Well, it had been a worth trying. And the reporter didn't immediately kick her out or call security... so perhaps there was a chance she could be persuaded. The sudden mechanical noise and movement of an object flying across the room startled her, and Staz silently cursed at herself for her obvious reaction. Seeing the drone hovering beside Charlie, she sighed as she realized that must have been how the other woman knew she was here. Next time, she'd have to be even more thorough in her research. At the mention of staying for a chat, Staz felt it wasn't really prudent to refuse... considering the smaller woman was still firmly blocking her exit. So she shrugged in a casual response. "If you wish." Feeling fabric shift over her fingers, the Ochiran looked down at the undergarments she was apparently still holding, and deliberately dropped them back into the pile beside her. Glancing around the living room, she found a spot on a chair not covered by clothes, and promptly sat before she continued. "I'm being paid a lot of credits to retrieve and deliver your personal logs." She explained, reverting back to her native tongue and letting the universal translators do the hard work. "I don't know who wants them, or why. I'm only interested in the payment."

[Charlie Fox - Private Quarters]The woman appeared to be straight with her words, but Charlie struggled with the concept of not knowing anything about an employer. But then, in her line of work curiosity was cultivated and directed, whereas she assumed that wasn't the kind of information a thief would require in order to successfully do their job. Even though the UT picked up the change of language easily, Charlie's head cocked as she listened to the new cadence of the words. She pushed off the archway, causing the doors to whoosh closed behind her. With Olsen at her shoulder, she moved toward the sitting area. Rather unceremoniously, she gathered up a bunch of clothing and then tossed it to the floor in order to make some space for herself. "Did they specify a time period?" She asked as she sat down. If she could pinpoint a time and what was going on in her life during it, she might be able to figure out who was looking for her logs. If that was indeed the reason for this thief being in her quarters. It was hardly for her underwear, though.

[Staz Volkova - Front Ear - Charlie's Quarters]Staz shook her head in response to the question, watching carefully as the resident stepped farther into the room and cleared a space to sit. At least her interest in a conversation about the intrusion was genuine, and not just a ploy to keep her there until security arrived. At least... It hadn't looked like she had done anything that might have triggered an alarm. But that drone was still following her... Who knew what it was programmed to do? "No. I just assumed they have a grudge and wanted to dig for whatever secrets they could find." A rival journalist made sense, but she didn't think journalism paid well enough for the amount of credits she was offered for this job. Perhaps they knew what they were looking for, but didn't want her to know. That sounded more likely. It really wasn't her business after all.

[Charlie Fox - Private Quarters]Charlie pursed her lips when the woman shook her head in the negative. She'd been hoping to at least pick up that small clue, but alas, whoever it was who was after her logs had at least half a brain. Olsen continued to move, recording the whole scene for posterity. "But they don't need to know how you got them, just that you got them?" She asked, mind already concocting a version of her personal logs that she could give to this thief. She was torn between passing along the child-like ramblings of a madwoman, complete with Bible verses and fanfiction ideas, and something a little more subtle, but laden with planted information. "I'm sure we can come to a mutually beneficial arrangement."She sounded like that sleaze, Major Chromar, but she meant it entirely differently.

[Staz Volkova - Front Ear - Charlie's Quarters]A sly smile spread across the Ochiran's features as she realized what Charlie was getting at. "I was hoping you would be willing to make a deal." That was exactly why she had chosen to be honest about why she had broken into the reporter's quarters. With no information about who wanted the logs or why, Staz felt no loyalty to them. Not to mention that drone that kept circling them was obviously more than just a toy. "If you help me, I'd be willing to split the profit with you. And I can let you know who I make the delivery to." That seemed like a fair trade, considering she was allowing the other woman to choose which logs she handed over. "Unless you have something else in mind?"

[Charlie Fox - Private Quarters]Charlie grinned. She was pleased she seemed to have called it right, but also this was an opportunity. She stood again, and started casting about for something. "I wish all of my break-ins ended in deals like this," she said with absolutely no hint of irony. "Ah!" She declared then, as she tugged a bottle of something brown and half-drunk from beneath another pile of materials. Glasses were easier to come by - there were two clean ones on a side table. She pulled the top off the bottle, which had no labels, and began to pour. At the question of whether she had something else in mind, she snorted a laugh. "I think that's probably enough of an exchange for one night." She turned, then walked back over to the sofas to hand her thief a glass. It was only right to drink to deals, and besides, it had been a long day that had ended with a criminal in her quarters and she quite needed a stiff one to balance herself. "Give me 24 hours to put together something good. It'll have to be convincing enough to pass precursory inspection and for payment, but obviously it can't give anything too important away." Charlie would have to include a few juicy titbits, of course, but nothing that could be effectively used against her.

[Staz Volkova - Front Ear - Charlie's Quarters]Staz tilted her head to the side, brown hair falling off her shoulder, and gave Charlie a look blended between confusion and curiosity. "Break-ins happen often here?" That would explain why her quarters were so messy. Unless someone was looking for clothes, it would take awhile to find anything valuable. As Staz had learned the hard way. The sight of the bottle and two glasses caused a wide grin to spread across her face. She was starting to like this woman. Accepting the glass that was handed to her, she nodded in agreement to the timeframe. "I have four days left to make the delivery. I can be patient for twenty-four hours." Especially since that was apparently her only option for getting paid. The nosy part of her wondered what Charlie wrote about in her logs that she didn't want someone finding out about... But she was smart enough to keep that bit of curiosity to herself.

[Charlie Fox - Private Quarters]"Oh yeah, it's a regular thing," Charlie responded as she sat back down, glass in hand. "You're the... sixth one this year. I am widely disliked." Her grin was oddly pleased, and she took a sip of the mystery booze. Between this place and the room she kept at the Twilight, she'd only engaged with two of the thieves. The first had been Kova, who hadn't actually been there for her belongings, rather evidence. That had been the beginning of an effective partnership. She hoped this one might have a similar end result. "Olsen's major function is to record and transmit," she explained, pointing toward the holodrone, who had stopped his expansive movements and slid into a more casual, sedate pace once it had become clear that there was no physical danger. "So I've caught most of them."She nodded when she heard there were four days to play with. She couldn't deny that she was very interested in who it was behind the robbery this time, and what they wanted with her logs. "So do you have a name? Or can I call you #6?"

[Staz Volkova - Front Ear - Charlie's Quarters]As she raised the glass to her lips, she couldn't hide the surprise on her face to hear how often this had happened. That seemed rather odd for one to attract so much attention, especially on a Federation base. Weren't these supposed to be "the safest places in the galaxy"? Seemed a good thing the Ochiran hadn't moved here looking for safety. "Perhaps I can make a decent living here after all." Though obviously not with Charlie as a target. Her brown eyes shifted to the drone as she took a drink, and she nodded in understanding. At least she wasn't the only thief that hadn't known about the drone going in. A snort of laughter escaped her at the mention of her name. "I go by Staz, but I suppose you can call me whatever you want." One word was the same as another when it wasn't her name. But it was too easy to trace her origin, and without knowing who destroyed her pack, she couldn't risk being known as a Volkova.

[Charlie Fox - Private Quarters]Charlie cocked her head when the other woman commented on being able to make a living here. She was not above turning a blind eye to certain criminal activities, in fact she believed that many were warranted and should not be considered criminal at all, but there were certain acts she took umbrage to. She hoped that her principles wouldn't get in the way of the thief's living. "Okay Staz," she said with a grin, before holding up her glass in a cheers motion, "We've got a deal." She took a long sip and made a face. The awful taste of it did not stop her from going back for more. "And welcome to the Frontier."
