Personal History
Early Life/Pre-Starfleet Career: Spike grew up in London, mainly with his grandfather as his parents were away on missions. Rare glimpses he saw of them when they did have any shore leave but most of the time was seeing them from a monitor. This made Spike feel like they did not care and as much as Tyrion tried he could not help his grandson. This led to misbehaviour in school, often running away from home and dabbling in illegal substances when possible with his friends. This behaviour stopped when his parents came home but he often argued with them and he was disciplined, both trying to shape him to join the Starfleet. Spike did not really care what they thought however a week after he saw them an officer came round after Spike got back from school informing them of their death, their ship attacked and destroyed. After going to the memorial event with his grandfather and seeing how much he suffered losing his own son Spike decided to work on his own attitude. He remembered what his parents wanted for him and as much as he struggled he began working towards their goal.
The main turnaround was Spike's friends not caring about his parents death or him, after that he left them and worked hard in class with the determination to join Starfleet Academy in San Francisco. He kept his head down and in books, helping around the house more and listening to the stories of his parents. With high grades he was accepted into the Starfleet Academy. He met his best friend Edward who was on the same course as him, becoming competitive in every activity they did. Both not interested in pursuing romances in order to focus on their work. He did extracurricular activities to take the stress of exams off and there was another reason to show his own competitiveness. When it came to deciding careers, Spike knew he wanted to follow in his father's footsteps and become a pilot.
Academy/Technical Academy (if Starfleet): Starfleet Academy
Previous Assignments (if applicable): USS Partira (2369- 2375) and USS Horizon (2375-2381)
Spike’s first assignment was aboard the USS Partira as flight control. The commanding officer and Spike did not get on, at first there seemed to be no reason for it. Criticism was given on a frequent basis even though Spike tried following everything by the books, the other person, in his opinion, seemed to be making more mistakes than him but she often got praised and used as an example against him. Not wanting to mess up his first assignment, he kept his head down and held his tongue, just like his grandfather told him.
Spike was frequently ignored which frustrated him, often over for promotion. He spent time in the holodeck trying to improve his skills in different scenarios and even if he got results the commanding officer was not impressed.
Spike believed he did not have what it took to take to do this job which led to a depressive spiral. He kept quiet when he was at the helm, obeying orders and just going back to crew quarters after his shift. This was not the life he had been expecting. Part of him wanted to keep proving himself, to show he knew what he was doing. He studied for this and worked hard in the academy. Within the three years on the USS Patira his fellow Flight Control Officer was promoted and moved to a different ship whilst Spike was stuck on this one, his request to transfer denied. There was a nervous ensign who joined him on his job, who was better treated than he was.
During an yellow alert, going through an asteroid field he was at the helm. His commanding officer wanted to take him off that position and put the fresh ensign in charge however he was no where to be seen. That was when the problem the commando officer had with him came out, his father was at the helm of the ship that was destroyed and the CO’s sister was killed. He blamed Spike’s father and did not trust Spike at all. Finding the reason shocked him, he tried keeping a steady hand despite the news and followed every command to the letter as well as inputting his own knowledge and skill of the situation. Spike CO was making unhelpful comments so finally shouted at him to shut up, knowing full well this would get him in trouble but he would rather navigate the asteroid field unharmed. Once successfully through there was a breathe of relief however Spike was written up for his behaviour.
Determined to show this CO that his father nor himself are to blame for his sister’s death he decided to stay on the ship for longer, even if he meant being passed up on promotions by someone biased. His last name deserved to be remembered in a good way. Spike spent another three years on the ship however the talking down seemed to have stopped and the constant criticism especially due to being able to handle two red alert scenarios. After Spike felt like he had nothing left to prove and promotions kept being missed, being twenty eight and an ensign he requested a transfer, stating personal reasons this time it was granted.
USS Horizon was his second assignment. The CO seemed to be a lot better on this ship. Of course an eyebrow was raised with being twenty eight and still an ensign whilst all of his peers had long passed that stage in their careers. His record had the one incident marked in with his previous assignment however the CO picked up that this was likely personal reasons why Spike was skipped for promotions and Spike was honest about it and who his father was. Turned out his father took risks and was known for it so some blamed his father for the disaster but his CO’s stance was no one knew the real reason the accident happened. This put Spike’s mind somewhat at ease.
Two years of being at the helm, showing off his knowledge on Astrophysics and the ship, running repairs when required he finally reached his first promotion at thirty. He knew it was late on in his career but it was better late than never in his opinion. This assignment though seemed further out than his previous one so there were constantly greater risks. Insomnia became part of an issue which made the depression somewhat worse due to nightmares that cropped up. He saw the ships counsellor and it was likely due to stress of previous tough events. This was when he started relying on caffeine as a clutch when he struggled to sleep.
The next two years the same routine occurred. His CO was promoted and therefore a replacement from a different ship was coming aboard. To Spike’s dread it was the CO of USS Partira who seemed to not be impressed of Spike’s promotion of the high praise he received. There were positive attributes in his record and a recommendation for another promotion which was not going to happen now. It seemed after the years and the transfer made the CO somewhat bitter towards him. The constant criticism began again and Spike was not exactly quiet in the mess hall with his opinions on the CO. Spike kept up with his work, trying to numb out what was said to him when he walked past or was alone with the CO.
A situation became a red alert when Spike was off shift, still in his uniform he ran up to the helm. The current Flight Tactical Officer was fresh out of Starfleet Academy and was panicking. Spike could see disaster was imminent so disobeyed the CO to stand down as he moved the young ensign away, he told the CO to focus on his job and he will do his. A few tense minutes later, Spike had managed to get out of the situation, using his own judgement to do so. The CO instantly demoted Spike back to ensign for disobeying a direct command and already being written up on it. Angry, Spike told him a few choice words and said maybe it was the CO’s incompetence and not his fathers that caused his sisters ship to be destroyed.
Fed up of the situation, this CO and knowing his life and his fellow starfleet co-workers would likely be in danger if he stayed he requested another transfer. Also writing about the situation and how dangerous this CO was. He had no care in the world if he was dismissed. He also noted his mental health issues were likely attributed to his current CO. His transfer request was granted and he moved to the USS Mac, back as an ensign. He had no idea what happened to that CO nor did he wish to see him again.

Spike awoken from a nightmare, the red alert alarm going off yet again. It seemed to be a reoccurring nightmare going over and over again. Laying there, he stared at the ceiling thinking about his parents, was this their last memories, he thought to himself. This was the last thing he needed right now with the stress of the previous assignment. Sighing he attempted to close his eyes again, he turned a few times. Noticing how awake he was now, he decided he might as well get up. Trying to keep quiet as not to wake up anyone else, he took his uniform and got changed in the bathroom, quietly going back in his room to make his bed. The lights were somewhat bright, he found himself squinting as he walked the halls towards the mess hall.
Once inside, not feeling much of an appetite he grabbed a coffee and sat down. Trying to shake off the nightmare he had. There were a few others already here, his guess they were either in the same position as him or were getting ready for their shift. Spike knew he was not due on for at least another two hours. Seeing a regular face, he gave a smile, trying to hide his own feelings and just how much the nightmare had affected him with the following thoughts afterwards. Spike took a sip of his coffee and muttered with dread in his voice, "This is going to be a long day".
