[T’Laara - Library, Deck 11, Front Ear Station]
If pressed to give an opinion, T’Laara would say that the library was an illogically underused facility. It was a place she visited occasionally, and while she presently did not require doing so for research, she chose to go regardless.
The change of location from her quarters or the lab was mildly beneficial to her mind, and she preferred quiet reading to quiet meditation.
(She was not entirely sure whether there had been too much on her mind recently, or not enough.)
Today the room was fairly empty. That was fortuitous. She did not wish for anyone to see what she was reading, or even do so on her personal device.
Sitting down at one of the computer stations, T’Laara quickly fell into curious concentration, the time passing easily. She was unsure how long it had been when she heard the sound of footsteps close by.
Quickly exiting out of what she had been looking at in case they walked behind her, she looked up to see who it was.

[NPC - A Mysterious Emerald Stranger - Library, Deck 11, Front Ear Station ] There were definitely more better places to be and more lively company to entertain, but sometimes solitude had its perks. She was quite certain that this library was the one place no one would come looking for her. The casino... the bars... the promenade, they'd search for hours. She approached one of the windows and peered out at the stars. Sometimes, the serenity of silence simply deserved to be treasured. Of course, as nice as it would have been to have the entire place to herself, that wasn't the case. The Orion spied a Vulcan hovering over a terminal, oblivious to the world around her. Perhaps it was a subconscious desire to socialize, but the Orion found herself moving in the Vulcan's direction. The prompt exiting of the window as she got close did nothing more than douse her naughty imagination in flames of mischief. "Well, now that's not suspicious at all," the stranger uttered with a smile. "I always wondered what sort of porn Vulcans were into. Fancy to to cure my curiosity by giving me a peek. If anyone asks, we can just say it was... art."

[ T’Laara - Library, Deck 11, Front Ear Station] The voice that broke through the silence, directed at her, came from an Orion woman she had never seen before. Despite this fact, the stranger spoke as if they were some sort of friendly coconspirators… and with a rather bold and unexpected presumption. T’Laara stared, then replied with quickly recovered impassivity. “I was not looking at porn." It was true, she had not been, and had little interest in doing so. "Or art, for that matter." “I was simply finishing my research, which I have no obligation to share, and preparing to leave.” That was perhaps slightly less true, but not an outright lie, either. “So if that is what you are here for, I cannot help you.” She raised one eyebrow haughtily, but almost in a question. [NPC - A Mysterious Emerald Stranger - Library, Deck 11, Front Ear Station ] The Vulcan quickly declared that she was not looking at porn. "I'm rather certain anyone that was just caught looking at porn would say exactly that," the Orion countered. There was that running fib about Vulcans being incapable of lying. She wasn't certainly exactly how much stock she would put into that myth. The Vulcan woman went on to declare that she had been finishing her research, which she didn't have to share. The smile on the Orion's lips only broadened. "Ah... so we're calling it research now. Clever."The Orion held up her hands defensively and slowly shook her head. "Well, that's not why I'm here," she confressed. Though the devilish glint in her eye beamed brightly. "But, how do you know that you cannot help me? You haven't even tried."

[ T’Laara - Library] Apparently the stranger was disinclined to change the subject. “As I said, I am not obliged to explain the contents of my research. Though I cannot stop you from imagining what you wish, so it seems we are at an impasse.” T’Laara watched her, resisting the urge to cover her nose at the woman’s sickly sweet and headache-inducing natural scent. She was also not entirely appreciative of the continued insinuations. However, that wasn’t to say she was completely uninterested. “A fair enough point, though that depends. Is there something else you want?”Kova Sh'qaleq

[NPC - Ivyra - Library, Deck 11, Front Ear Station ] The Orion continued to smile, clearly amused at how elusive the Vulcan was about her porn, or whatever had been on her screen. Definitely porn. Though, perhaps those emotionless walls of resistance were beginning to buckle as the the Vulcan then asked if there was something else that she wanted. The Orion seemed to toil the notion in her head for a moment, even as her eyes seemed to look upwards as if seeking some sort of plausible request. "Well, since you're not interested in showing... perhaps a little telling?" the Orion paused. "Is it too much to ask for a name?" she asked. "I'll even go first. My name is Ivyra." She placed her hand on her chest as she identified herself. "And You are...." Of course, now it was a question of whether the Vulcan would actually return the favor, or go on some diatribe about logic and continue to verbally protest about the privacy of the porn she was hording to herself.

[ T’Laara - Library] The Orion was acting almost as if T’Laara were the one behaving illogically, or rudely, simply because she wished to keep her personal inquiries… personal. Though at least she finally seemed to drop the subject, and now gave a name, if little else. Ivyra. “That is a much more common question upon first meeting, and therefore unlikely to be ‘too much’,” she replied with a raised eyebrow, before obliging. “I am T’Laara.” Kova Sh'qaleq

[NPC - Ivyra - Library, Deck 11, Front Ear Station ] "T'Laara," Ivyra repeated. Her lips began to curve into a smile. "Such a pretty name." It was a collection of sounds and syllables. Honestly, the same as any other name. Besides, the Vulcan likely wouldn't put very much stock in her opinion on nomenclature anyway. "So, does the fact that you pointing out that this is our first meeting imply that there'll be a second?" The Orion couldn't resist having a little fun at the Vulcan's expense. "Is it acceptable for me to ask if you live here?" Ivyra said. "It's a habit of spacefarers to know at least one name at every port. It keeps one from ever being alone wherever they go." Was that the real reason she desired to know? Hardly, but it sounded authentic enough. The Orion paused, wondering if the Vulcan would be willing to be a bit more forthcoming about something other than her concealed porn.

[ T’Laara - Library] “Thank you,” T’Laara responded flatly to what was clearly intended to be a compliment, even if it would make slightly more sense to be aimed at her parents, who had chosen the name. The questions that followed were not very unusual, and she saw no reason to not answer. “Yes, I am currently a long-term resident on this station. If you are not, that makes the chances of us meeting again less likely. However, I cannot predict such a thing with certainty at this time.” She had not entirely decided whether that was a fortunate fact, or not. Kova Sh'qaleq

[NPC - Ivyra - Library, Deck 11, Front Ear Station ] Ivyra couldn't help but smirk at the Vulcan's logic. "No, as I said, I'm afraid I'm just passing through," the Orion remarked. "However, you could say that I make it a habit to... defy the odds." Ivyra shrugged. "So, us seeing one another again... well, the chances may be higher than you think. I think my ship will be passing through a bit more often.""So... you're a scientist here?" Ivyra stated. "One that is very protective of her research." Ivyra took a deep breath as she continued to smirk. "Is there a Mr. or Mrs. Vulcan scientist here with you as well?" Ivyra felt that she knew the answer already. Of course, one could never tell with Vulcans. Despite their declaration for being honest to a fault, they found ways to conceal their truths in convenient white lies.

[ T’Laara - Station Library] “And what ship is that?” T’Laara asked when Ivyra said her ship may be passing through more often. Though she supposed she should not expect an answer without giving more information in return. “I am a botanist, yes. And I do not have a mate, if that is what you are asking.” While she preferred to occupy her mind with other concerns, it was a fact she was not completely unaware of. However, since it was not the right time, other Vulcans tended to be entirely uninterested, and everyone else seemed to be put off by Vulcan mannerisms. So perhaps the question was somewhat related to what had recently been on her mind, if not exactly in the way Ivyra had assumed. Not that it was relevant, or any of her new acquaintance’s business. [NPC - Ivyra - Library, Deck 11, Front Ear Station ] Ivyra wasn't entirely certain if the Vulcan's interest was genuine or merely a means to acquire more information. Nevertheless, she opted to play along for now. "The ship is the Barrowbug," she revealed. "Simple Bajoran freighter. Our captain decided to finally push out a little further beyond Cait." Perhaps that would be enough to sate her curiosity. T'Laara revealed that she was a botonist. If that wasn't irony, then Ivyra wasn't sure what was. "So... you know all there is to know about flowers?" she repeated. "Perhaps you can recommend some for me. I need to spruce up my cabin. I'm thinking something... purple perhaps." It was probably a fool's errand, but at least it could keep the Vulcan talking. "No mate? I thought that Vulcan's had their pairings all sussed out before puberty hit."

[ T’Laara - Library] The Orion named a ship after all, then posed a question about flowers. Which might have been slightly unexpected, had not everything about this encounter been slightly unexpected. “I see.” T’Laara could spend a relatively long time listing all the plants she knew that produced purple flowers, but suspected that Ivyra’s interest only went so far. “I could attempt to make a recommendation, but there is a florist on the Promenade who may provide a better answer.” The plants she found most fascinating tended to not be ones typically kept indoors for aesthetics. Besides, the florist was the one who could actually sell her something suitable. And then, there was the question about her mate, or lack thereof. Yes, most Vulcans did arrange such things early. However, her circumstances had been a bit unusual… and such arrangements could be broken, and did not require living together. “With all the questions about my inclination to mate, one might think you were… interested.”Kova Sh'qaleq

[NPC - Ivyra - Library, Deck 11, Front Ear Station ] Vulcans didn't know how to take compliments. That much was confirmed when T'Laara stated that she could make a recommendation, but that there was a florist on the Promenade that would be better suited to provide such advice. Ivyra scoffed and shook her head slowly. "Trying to get rid of me already?" she asked teasingly. "Perhaps I'm looking for an unbiased opinion. As a profiteer, surely the florist would just be trying to make a sale." It was a flimsy excuse, but the Orion was curious as to how the Vulcan would respond. She then made her own deductions, suggesting that it was Ivyra herself that was interested in mating, given all her questions about T'Laara's personal life. "And if I were?" she asked nonchalantly. "You're still... dancing around the issue, as they say. Classic avoidance... which could send the message that you are interested... to an illogical mind such as my own. Is that a fair deduction? Or is that an induction? I tend to get the two confused."

[ T’Laara - Library] Ivyra argued that the florist may be unlikely to give a better opinion due to being motivated by profit. “Perhaps, but seeking to make a sale and recommending something that would suit your requirements are not necessarily mutually exclusive actions.” The question about ‘getting rid of her’ did not seem to require a direct response, so T’Laara chose not to answer. If she strongly wished to end the conversation, she could do it on less uncertain terms, and had no true obligation to do so politely. “And as for wanting to mate, it is an interesting tactic, avoiding the question by accusing me of doing just that.” She raised an eyebrow. Orions were generally considered to be smooth talkers, and it almost seemed as though this one was purposefully trying to confuse her. As Ivyra said more, her meaning grew more obscure. And although what could be motivating her was still in question, T’Laara was determined to see through the distraction. She had, in fact, answered the questions posed to her… if admittedly somewhat imprecisely. Perhaps there was a hint of truth in Ivyra’s guess that she was uncertain about such matters. “I have already concluded that you will make whatever deductions you are inclined to… and I believe induction would, in fact, require confirmation of interest.” The fact was that T’Laara had not intended to make a proposition. And yet… just maybe, it could be argued that the woman did have aesthetically pleasing features, and she was meant to be trying new things. Kova Sh'qaleq
