Personal History
Early Life/Pre-Starfleet Career:
Born in Glasgow, Scotland, Pippa was just like most children growing up, always hungry but never satisfied. Even from an early age, she would wander off and explore her environment, which really worked out for her when her family moved out to the highlands when she was 4. There was always somewhere new for her to go when she was bored, and she would spend her time playing around with the animals or just wandering the paths. It was an exciting, perfectly normal childhood, though as she grew older, it began to feel less adventurous as the forests became more travelled and the unknown became known. Life got boring, there was nothing new to do anymore except just live. School came and went, she studied and got high marks in all her subjects, but she never really made friends, keeping to herself and her books.
Even though she would find some joy in her hobbies like fencing and archery, this feeling of hollowness persisted until she was almost finished school. Soon enough, she arrived at a simple conclusion - perfection meant the end of progress. Earth as a paradise had little need for people like her, people who craved stimulation through exploration and problem-solving, she liked to be creative and make people smile and laugh, and help those that couldn't find it in them. In other words, Earth didn't feel like her home anymore, more like a waystation to where she really wanted to go. Above or below, Space or Sea, two frontiers that were still being explored that she could feel useful or happy in, that was the choice she had to make to be satisfied with her life. It ultimately came down to, of all things, a duel with a Starfleet Cadet in her fencing club. They fought, she lost, and a few days later, she was on a Shuttle to San Franscisco.
Academy/Technical Academy (if Starfleet):
Initially, Pippa planned on pursuing a Major in Command and Control, aiming to get her hands on the red uniform someday, she joined Starfleet Academy on the same year of the Breen's Raid on Earth. A few months into her training, she was walking toward her class when the attack began, the bombardment causing a section of the building to collapse on top of her and several of her classmates. She was trapped beneath rubble and rebar for an entire day, the only survivor of the group when she was eventually found by first responders. Ultimately, she did recover physically, but she refused to have her wounds fully treated with a dermal regenerator, letting them scar over. The ordeal also left deeper scars on her psyche, with Pippa becoming even more withdrawn and isolationist, switching her Major over to Engineering and donning a Gold Uniform instead. When she graduated, she was assigned to the frontier despite her objections, with her teachers believing it would help her come to terms with the mental damage she had been suppressing over the years.

Please write a brief answer to 3 of the following (a sentence or two for each is fine):
Your character's most painful experience
Being crushed and buried beneath 3 feet of rubble and heavy metal rebar during the Breen attack on Earth. While she survived, the other cadets she was with bled out from their wounds, and she was with them in their last moments before they all died.
Your character's best or favorite experience
The day she first reached the top of Ben Lomond in Scotland. From the top she could see almost all of the surrounding area for miles, showing her just how big and beautiful the world was.
Your character's most crucial experience
While it was small, her finals week of school, in which she went through the entire week reliving almost the exact same sequence of events; she would wake up, have breakfast, get encouraging words from her parents, go to school via an idyllic forest path, do her exams, and then go home to study and eat dinner. It could have been considered beautifully blissful and simple by a normal person, but this was a normal day in paradise, where everything was right, and that was what was wrong.
Who is your character's role model and why?
Captain Benjamin Sisko, the Emissary of the Prophets. Pippa idolises him because he represents everything she wants from life, both before and after her experience during the Breen attack. He was firm, but kind, he knew what to say and do to inspire loyalty, and he stayed with the people of Bajor for years, helping restore their planet from a scorched landscape under the Cardassians back to a strong and stable power that could stand on it's own with or without the Federation, happy and at peace.
He was also a warrior, unafraid to fight for what he believed in, and with that came an appreciation for every single moment he lived, a lust for life that would infect the people around him when he was in a good mood.
Please write a brief sample post from your character’s perspective:
Nugget mewed softly in his carrier, Pippa's idle hand reaching down to stroke her neck to calm her down. The cat always hated getting transferred, she could never figure out why though. The change in environment was obviously upsetting her, but it seemed like there was always more to it than that, a change in scenery shouldn't make a cat queasy or sick. Maybe she was more sensitive to the artificial gravity, could hear the inner workings of the shuttle, maybe she just didn't like looking out at space. Regardless, Pippa kept on stroking the Scottish Fold, doing her best to keep her calm as the shuttle approached the station.
She looked out at the encroaching structure with a mix of unease and fear settling into her stomach, her uniform seeming to itch and scratch more than usual. She had told them over and over that she didn't want this, but they were all too happy to remind her that she was an ensign now, this was the life she had chosen, so she had to go where they sent her, and that this was for her own good. Even though her thoughts still bristled with annoyance at her teachers' words, she still felt the faint echo of excitement deep within her mind. This was what she had been working toward - The Frontier. This was untamed space, full of colonists struggling to make a life for themselves here, they needed help and support, and what was a Starfleet Officer if not an explorer and a helper?
Well, maybe not specifically a helper, but regardless of whether or not she wanted to, Pippa had a feeling that was what she would become, in time.
