Personal History
Early Life/Pre-Starfleet Career:
Eden is the second child out of five (and the only girl) born to weak willed parents; her father especially being of incredible ill-repute in their northern Alabama community. Before all of her brothers were born her father succumbed to acute alcoholism. While mostly non-violent in a physical sense, though not completely, the patriarch ensured Eden and her family grew up in a home that was emotionally impoverished and under his complete control. Although the sins of her parentage were looked down upon, a core group of neighbors, teachers, and religious practitioners took significant roles in the children's health and education. In her early teens her mother ran away with another man effectively abandoning her children and Eden, being the only girl, suffered the brunt of her father's rage. Thanks to her naturally bright disposition, empathetic nature, and help from professionals, Ensign Nivans holds very little personal guilt over her childhood despite such a harsh upbringing. If asked, she would credit her raising as testimony to her desire to be a security officer, giving her a unique set of skills applicable to her daily job. Eden knew early on that Federation service was her best option as it would ensure the best way to separate herself from home. As soon as she was able she applied for the Starfleet Academy. When the acceptance came it was the first time she could remember crying happy tears.
Eden's time in the Academy was a major shift in her lifestyle with a newfound sense of independence, a stricter structure, and a vastly different cast of mentors of which she could consult for her various needs. It was a bright and wonderful world out there! She used the time (mostly) wisely to not only earn her education but earn the respect of those she looked up to. The environment was perfect for her to bloom, a place that valued education, a place to be a social butterfly, and a place of self reflection. Most days she rode herself hard and put herself up wet. When Eden went into the Academy she wondered who she would be upon graduation. When she stepped her right foot aboard the Talon for the first time she understood that her education would never stop and that constant change was a part of life, that who she was could only be defined by her legacy after she was gone. What she did mattered. Every morning was a challenge and she was never good at turning down a challenge.
Although her early life and time in Starfleet has molded her into a mostly well-rounded young woman, there are lessons she's yet to learn, parts of herself that need to be brought out into the light, and mettle to be tested.

Please write a brief answer to 3 of the following (a sentence or two for each is fine):
Your character's most painful experience Witnessing deep, unresolved pain being lashed out upon the innocent. She knows her daddy was hurting but they were just kids.
Your character's best or favorite experience A nighttime dip at the beach on Risa with her best friends after months of difficulty at work. The freedom to laugh, hoop and holler, and breath fresh air does wonders for the soul.
Your character's most crucial experience Stepping foot on her first ship after graduation. From then on her choices would have real consequences, and she'd have to have an answer for them all, not just to her superiors but to her peers.
Who is your character's role model and why? Her first Department Chief. He was strict, by the book, and rough, but showed her by example how to be her best, and that she should always wish for wider shoulders rather than lighter burdens.
Please write a brief sample post from your character’s perspective:
[ENS. Eden Nivans & CMDR Roman - Main Security Office, Deck 4, USS Talon]
"I think you know what I'm going to bring up, Ensign," Roman grumbled as he tossed the PADD onto his desk with a percussive thwack. It was louder than he'd meant it to be but he couldn't ease the stern expression on his face. She'd see the crack in his visage right away and worm her way through it in, how did she often put it, two shakes of a lamb's tail?
"It's the hug, I reckon, Commander," Eden replied with a grimace, her jovial disposition muted for the sake of the seriousness of her training performance review. Roman looked stern and she was compelled to respect that lest she disrespect him and his position. She couldn't bare the thought of it.
There was silence. It made her skin crawl. Another thing she couldn't bare.
"It just seemed like the right thing to do, is all," Eden blurted an emotional appeal. "Everyone was so amped up and it was all talkin' and no listenin'-"
To a certain extent, the man couldn't argue because it had worked, but he couldn't have his junior officers running into a situation with arms wide open. "Let me stop you right there."
Eden obediently shut her trap.
"Let's say you missed something and your move earned you a phaser shot to the chest. Now one of my best guys is dead and then how does it go for the rest of us?"
The young woman, still a little green behind the ear, could have shrunk in her chair. "Not well, Commander."
"Right. Not well. More people dying is definitely 'not well' I'd say. Then I have to call your brother and tell him his sister is dead and thank him for his sacrifice. Then I spend the rest of my days wondering why one of my officers is dead because she thought someone needed a hug."
In her head, it made perfect sense, but her heart still felt justified. Things in her realm were black or white yet somehow she'd managed to find something grey. How was she supposed to navigate through things that others didn't appear to see?
Roman took in the sight of Ensign Nivans silent in contemplation, giving her time to process whatever she was going through. It seemed like a special moment, not just because she was quiet for once, but because she was changing.
Eventually the silence needed breaking. "You're going to be the ace in the back of the Captain's back pocket one day but you can't do things like that."
Eden nodded in agreement, grateful for the compliment but ultimately unhappy with how it had to end. There was no one in the world she trusted more than the man in front of her, so she took his words as gospel. "Aye, Commander."
Releasing his breath and wiping his brow his dismissed the ensign with a wave. "Send Haywood in on your way out."
"Aye, Commander."
The door hissed opened as she exited. Outside the commander's office doors was a thin crowd and almost all eyes on her, wide with expectation. Did she get yelled at? Had she been demoted? Was she dead?
"You're next, Haywood," she mustered the strength back into her voice.
He went in, pausing only for a moment to put a sympathetic hand on her shoulder.
"I, uh, I think I'm going to the gym." She gave a reassuring smile, not for herself but for the others, and made a swift exist out of the beehive that was the security office. Today was hard, and she wasn't going to forget this lesson any time soon.

Do you have previous experience with a role-play forum? Yes. Approximately 8 years on the same forum until it unfortunately had to dismantle. (Which explains Eden's first assignment, as a gentle nod to the place that gave me immeasurable joy for many years that I still look upon happily.)
What brought you to the Frontier? Google goblins.
Is there anything else you’d like to tell us? I've read all the rules and guides I could find, and took some peeks at other bits and pieces available that will hopefully help ease myself in if accepted. Constructive criticism is my jam so if you ever have any, please send it my way. Just about anything goes in terms of character development and/or conflict, if it makes the story richer and better I'll always jump on it. As a stay at home mom with a school aged child, my availability is very open and I am able to be very productive if allowed, may be a little rusty at first, and the quoting system is new to me, but I will always try my best!
