Being back on a ship and surrounded by people was one thing and one thing only: Overwhelming.
The blinking lights, voices, gadgets and devices seemed stranger than ever. For too long he had been part of the jungle. It seemed almost like it had also become part of him. At least judging by his looks. Fells sat on the tidy seat in his teathered clothing or what was left of it, his hair hadn't seen a cut in 18 months, neither had his beard. Compared to the others he stank like hell. So they ushered him into a shower first, handed him some fresh clothes - no uniform and tried to comfirm that he was not a threat to them.
His fingerprints gave the crew his name: Fells Halgerdur, former member of Starfleet. No outstanding warrants but a very strange demotion before he parted ways with the crew of his former ship.
Under their close watch he was then taken to get a physical check.
One of the security officers was taking him to the local medical facility and, when he found a young lady on duty he explained.
"We just picked up a man on the surface of an uninhabited planet. We came upon him by chance. He says he's been there for almost 19 months. The guy is really strange, has got some nasty scars and an open wound. Check him thoroughly, please. We need to make sure he's not bringing any unknown species with him or is dangerous to the rest of the base or Fleet in any way." He waited for her to take note of everything.
Fells blinked a few times because the guy acted like he wasn't even there. What was he supposed to be? Deaf or stupid?
He simply wasn't used to speaking anymore.
He turned his blue eyes on the woman and shrugged his shoulders. "I'm fine."

Personal History
Early Life/Pre-Starfleet Career:
Fells grew up in Iceland as the son of a family, who was all about traditions and staying grounded. The life on the vulcanic island was still rougher than in some better developed places but it wasn't exciting enough for the young man. He is an adventurer, that's why he joined the Fleet.
His brother stayed in Iceland for a while.
Fells family wasn't very happy that he left the planet and his home but they still maintained a distance relationship with their son.
He can talk his way into and out of a lot of situations, likes women (and possibly men or other species), a drink or two. The guy is rough around the edges and will not hesitate to do what it necessary. He's the kind of guy you want at your side during a fight but not necessarily as your best friend due to his lack of empathy. To be honest, he's not Starfleet material because he hates following orders. Unfortunately a 'normal' life appeals even less, so he does what he has to in hopes to bend the rules as far as they will be bent. Technically skilled, good with weapons, knows 2 human and three extra terrestial language. Very bad with numbers and impulsive.
Academy/Technical Academy (if Starfleet):
Fells started out as weapons officer but didn’t last. He had a temper that was hard to control at times and landed him in trouble more than once. So he was degraded and had to help with maintenance. It took him three years to be allowed to become a liaison officer. The only reason he was accepted was an off the record relationship with the commander in charge. Nobody could proof it but Fells had actually slept his way into the position he wanted.
Previous Assignments (if applicable):
Then the Dominion war started. Fells was lucky enough not to be part of the seventh fleet. He was assigned to on of the ships, that destroyed the Dominion's primary ketracel-white storage facility in the Alpha Quadrant, which was a massive success.
The Federation, desperate for additional support, continued to extend diplomatic ties to neighboring species. His superiors recognised Fells language and negotiation talent, so he became of the interspecies liaison officers on board of the Federation ships.
After the war ended he stayed on the USS Marksham, where he was dealing with various different species who the crew got in touch with.
On one occasion he had a bad feeling about the alien species who wanted to come aboard the ship to negotiate the sale of rare minerals. He took a bribe and let them come aboard.
His crew later (after a very bad incident on board) believed that he took a bribe from the hostile foreign species in order to gain profit.
They stripped him off his rank and gave him a choice. Fells could either be brought back to the Starbase and serve time in prison or be left on the next best planet.
Seeing the hatred in their faces and ridden with guilt because of the loss of three crew members, he chose the latter. Somehow he managed to survive.
His superior had let his emotions rule his decisions. The Captain of the Marksham had not followed protocol, so he later on had to manipulate Fells file. There wasn't much in it about the incident or why exactly he had lost his ranks. Everyone was sure he'd never resurface. They simply declared him 'lost'.
About 18 months later the crew of another ship picked up the signature of life on that planet and landed.
To their surprise they stumbled upon a human who was stranded there.
They didn't know who he was or whether he was even fully human.

Fells accepted their offer to come aboard but he could not go home to his family because he felt he was a disgrace.
A young Starfleet doctor cured him of some alien DNA, that was still embedded in his forearm, thanks to an alien beast that wanted to eat him on the planet and stung him. He was in fairly bad shape, physically and mentally after 18 months in the 'solitary' wild.
Months later he found a job in a restaurant, given to him by a very trusting lady, who later became his girl friend.
When nobody questioned his empty file and a counselor cleared him for duty, Fells went on active duty again.
He was assigned to the security department of a ship and later to one of the bases, where he met the girl again, who had given him a job.
It didn't take long for the two to fall for each other. Lea was just the right match for this troubled man because she didn't judge.
Fells accepted her daughter and the girl now calls him dad.
The tide finally seemed to turn and his will to protect and serve the Fleet was rewarded with promotions.
Unfortunately about 5 months ago his past caught up with him in the form of another crew member, who recognized him as the man, who had betrayed his crew and informed the authorities.
What should have happened three years ago, happened now. Fells was arrested and got a trial.
Charges were being pressed, pieced together through witness statements, records of other crew members of the USS Marksham, who were all deceased a day before he was demoted. They tried to pin things on him, that he didn't even do. A second witness testified that Fells actually tried to stop the strangers from storming the bridge but it was too late.
The only thing, that he had really done, was that he had taken a bribe. That 'gift' earned him the loss of his rank and 6 months in prison, which he's currently serving.

Your character's most painful experience
Having to survive on a planet alone without replicators, phasers and any sort of human equipment or weapon. Fells was not used to hunting and killing in order to survive. But when he almost became prey himself he had to throw his conscience over board and simply survive. The worst part about it was the loneliness, though, and the prospect of never seeing any humans again.
He met his girl friend Lea, when he had nothing. Looking like a undernourished, not trustworthy stray dog, she trusted him and gave him a job. Being a Betazoid she looked behind the facade and continues to do so, when he doubts himself because of his past crimes, she sees the man he has become.
The moment Leas daughter called him daddy Fells, his life suddenly became more meaningful. He knew he had found a place to call home and wanted to be part of that loving family, when before only money and survival mattered. Being there for the two girls has become his primary objective.
