Personal History
Early Life/Pre-Starfleet Career: Born on Tholia Prime as all members of his species are, Volskene was born into the scientific caste of his race, the Tholians. From inception, it would seem that his destiny was set and predetermined. The early portions of Volskene's lifespan were somewhat uneventful, but Tholians mature rapidly as a particular consequence of their biology and physiology, and so he found his particular calling, dictated by his caste, rather quickly. Particularly, he found interests in the fields of quantum mechanics and subspace and warp field theory. This found him tasked with the rather mundane and laborious task of enhancing the efficiency and speed of the engines that powered the Tholian Assembly's ships. For many years, Volskene performed the duties that had been delegated to him by the Assembly. However, as time wore on, it was clear that he had become somewhat discontent that his skills were being put to use for such a banal purpose. Volskene truly desired to make more cutting edge breakthroughs in his field of expertise, rather than resorting to the same tired old techniques and repetition to advance a somewhat questionable goal to begin with. Following this revelation, Volskene made an extremely difficult decision: he resigned his post in the Assembly and took to the stars beyond his world, fighting the distaste for aliens that coursed within his crystalline form. Clearly, if he wanted to share and advance new ideas, he would have to both travel and collaborate, no matter the difficulty of reasoning with humanoids.

Birthdate: 2328
Birthplace: Tholia Prime
Marital Status & spouse name(s): N/A

Parents' Names: Unknown
Parents' Status: Unknown
Other Important Relatives: N/A
Pets: N/A
Best Friend: None
Personality
Department Preference: Science
Commissioned, Enlisted or Civilian: Civilian
Reason for joining Starfleet or moving to a Federation base: Having discovered the Federation's Science Council and their many branches devoted to different disciplines, including those of his particular expertise (subspace physics), he attempted to make his case to work with the Federation despite the tenuous relations between the organization and his people; the venture succeeded.
Academy/Tech Majors and Interests: N/A
Hobbies: Being somewhat of a workaholic, Volskene does not do much of anything outside of normal duties.
Short-term Goals: Optimize a currently working model of exotic field generator and publish results that may pave the way for improved and more efficient propulsion.
Long-term Goals: Devise and engineer an entirely novel form of propulsion, based on transwarp theory and utilizing exotic subspace geometry to move instantaneously between points in spacetime. Volskene is prepared that the work may not be finished within his physical lifetime, but strives nonetheless.
Defining Characteristic: The only Tholian crazy enough to spend such extended time outside the Assembly.
Sense of Humor: Not one that humanoids would understand.
Phobias or Fears: Xenophobia, thanatophobia
Favorite Things: Physics, subspace geometry, deep thought
Least Favorite Things: Other species, failure, excessive physical altercation (he isn't a warrior caste)
Bad Habits or Vices: Tendency to want to complete work by himself and take credit for it regardless of others' contributions (because the others are typically humanoids), acts reclusive at times despite being somewhat of a trailblazer among his people
Achievements (personal or professional): Presented at various conferences (both in Tholian space and abroad) on exotic subspace geometries, developed models for faster and more efficient warp engines
Disappointments: Countless failed experiments, numerous fallings with potential colleagues due to his xenophobia
Illnesses: None as of yet
Strengths: Resourcefulness in applying theory to practical applications, persistence in work, great knowledge of various aspects of physics
Weaknesses: Xenophobia hinders teamwork, EV suit hinders movement in M class environments, unusual biochemistry makes medical treatments difficult
Prejudices: General distaste of all humanoid (and even other non-humanoid) species, sometimes to the point of interference in collaborative work
Please write a brief answer to 3 of the following (a sentence or two for each is fine):
Your character's most painful experience: By far, taking the first leap from the Tholian homeworld to worlds further afield. The detachment from everything familiar was indeed not only one of the most painful, but one of the hardest things Volskene had ever done.
Your character's best or favorite experience: The success of developing a successful experiment after failing hundreds of times to develop a prototype.
Your character's most crucial experience: A tie in with his most painful experience: leaving Tholian space for the first time, thus becoming one of the first of his kind to actively seek collaboration with aliens.
Who is your character's role model and why?
Please write a brief sample post from your character’s perspective: Volskene paced around the span of his temporary lodging on this starbase and surveyed the surroundings. A thick smog-like mixture of noxious (to humanoids) gas permeated the tightly sealed quarters. It was kind of these outsiders to offer him a room suited to his people's habitation.
His gaze turned to the padd in his outstretched hand. It contained several rather complicated warp field solutions in progress, which the Tholian had been pondering over for the better part of a week. Try as he might, he just could not balance the variables that would offer the correct answer. This was made even worse by the fact that he had a presentation to give in the next couple of days, and he had to be exactly on time, a consequence of the well-known punctuality of his species. There would be no presentation at all if he couldn't get this solution, though...
It was then that the doorbell to his quarters rang. Hurriedly, Volskene scurried to a monitor to look at who the visitor might be. As expected, it was a besuited humanoid, no doubt come to see how he was finding his accommodations. Having locked himself in the room for the past few days, this stranger was likely coming to check up on his well-being. Well, he was doing just fine, but Volskene decided he might as well humor this visit. In his distinct Universal Translator-vocoded tone, he called out, "What is it?"
Do you have previous experience with a role-play forum? Yes, several
What brought you to the Frontier? A supportive environment and a familiar member base with whom I look forward to continue to create new adventures with.
Is there anything else you’d like to tell us? Not particularly; just ready to have fun again!
