(Fells & Lea's Apartment - Starbase Sierra - Six Months Ago]
After a long day at the station he came home to greet her with a kiss but his nervousness radiated from him. Lea had to pick up on that for sure.
"Can I talk to you in the bedroom?" He asked with a look at her daughter, who was busy playing in the living room.
When the door opened and Fells greeted her with a kiss, Lea quickly kissed, him back, happy to see him, yet instantly became worried, as she picked up on the nervousness. Wondering what was wrong, especially when he asked to speak to her in the bedroom.
" Of course Babe" she replied, leaving Ari to play as she led the way.
With fairly fast steps he went there and closed the door behind them. Without waisting much time he said.
"About two hours ago a guys came to the station. He stared at me and said. I know who you are."
His breath hitched.
"It took me a moment but then I knew he was part of the crew of the Marksham."
The moment he started to talk, Lea moved closer to him, especially when he mentioned the Marksham. Knowing exactly what this could mean for him and for them as a family.
" Oh Babe, don't worry we'll deal with it, did he say anything else?" She asked as she wrapped her arms around him.
Like always she was calm and his rock to lean on. Shouldn't it be different some time?
This time it wasn't as easy as that though.
"He did. He said. Why are you here...working in security. That isn't right. We both know why."
His fingers started to shake as he brushed them over his head.
"This isn't good, Lea. Maybe I should think about running. Go somewhere till things blow over."
Lea hated to see him like this, her heart sinking at not only what he told her but also the way his fingers started to shake. " I know it's not, Fells, we both knew that this could happen some day, just not now, if you run, what will that achieve?".
" I wish we could run off, but there's also the chance that they could come after us".
What would that achieve?
There was an easy answer to that.
"A life in freedom..."
He looked her in the eye. His breath was still too fast thanks to the adrenaline in his system.
"You know they could press charges for aiding and abiding murder. You'll never see me again."
The thought stung.
"It doesn't have to be that way and I would never ask you to run with me but I work in security. I know how to trick the system."
Lea tried to process everything that he was telling her, leaving her with a horrible choice to make, either to run or lose Fells for ever. She wished that this had never happened, especially with everything that had gone right for them lately. He was doing so well and now that could be taken away from them.
" I know it means a life of freedom, but either way I could lose you, unless we come with you'.
" There must be something we can do, but we'll still have it hanging over us, no matter what we decide and we won't be truly free".
His brow was furrowed when he listened to her and let the words sink in. Of course he that Lea was right. How could he possibly put her through that?
"I can't uproot you and Ari."
Somewhere deep down he knew that he never should have let their relationship happen. He had been selfish and naive.
"I'm sorry....that my life is so complicated and yours is, too. I only know I love you but I want to protect you."
He cast a glance at the small screen in his hand. "I don't know whether he's going to do anything but I think he will. The way he looked at me."
Lea appreciated that he didn't want to uproot her and Ari but she couldn't just let him leave or give up on what they had. She knew what she was getting into when she met him and it wasn't going to change. " You don't have to apologise, I knew this when I met you and I love you too, I know that you want to protect us, but we'll face this together, with whatever he does to us".
"What does that mean?" He huffed desperate for a solution that was impossible. Running and being caught would make things worse.
"The chances that they'll say .....you've been punished enough is unlikely."
He covered his face in his hands.
"I can run now and you come when I find a save spot.....f**k....no....you've built a business, a life here.....I really don't know, Lea."
Leanna looked at him, moving back slightly to move his hands away from his face, as she tried to reassure him with her words. " It might not be either, considering what you've been through and what you've achieved since you got here".
" We need to stay and fight this, because if you run, you'll be forever looking over your shoulder, wondering if they'll find you and think of Ari and the baby".
The baby. He hadn't even thought about that. He could not ask her to give birth and bring up a baby on the run somewhere. Nor did he have the right to leave her behind and let her fend for herself with a newborn again.
"I didn't have anything to do with the murder. I did not know that and when I figured it out I tried to stop them."
That's when he knew he needed to stay right there.
He only looked up and gave her a nod.
It seemed as though her words especially about the children, had gotten through to him, before he spoke about what he had tried to do. " I know you didn't Babe and I know that you tried to stop them, but we can tell them that".
Fells fell silent. He took a few deep breaths and then her hands in his to burry his face in them. He didn't say any more.
Lea just let him hold her and enjoy the silence, until he was ready to speak or they went back to Ari.
Later that night when Ari had long gone to sleep after a very heartfelt moment with her surrogate dad, he still lay awake.
His comm badge alerted him of an incoming call so Fells sat up in bed.
"Yeah?"
It was Tominsa on the other end who talked in a hushed voice.
"Boss, I have no idea what's going on but an APB for you just went out to all stations."
Fells froze but then thanked him.
"I appreciate the heads up."
"You've always been good to me. Let me know if you need help."
"Thanks, Tominsa....just don't believe everything they tell you."
He then gently nudged Lea. "Did you hear it?"
Lea wasn't sure that she would be able to sleep that night after everything that had happened. However tiredness had won out, allowing the Betazoid to drift off, until she heard the comm call, dread filled her, before he nudged her. " I did".
There hadn't been many times in his life when he was so worried about someone else. Fells rolled over to hold her."I'm so sorry that you have to go through this. They'll come here. I think I'd better go and turn myself in so you and Ari don't have to witness this."
His throat had gotten really tight because he was about to loose the two people he loved the most.
His hand went to her belly, which was home to his unborn son.
She didn't want him to go, so when he held her, she held onto him, savouring their time, as he spoke and had to fight back tears, especially when his hand moved to her small bump. " Don't be, because I'm here for you no matter what and I know you want to do that, but before you do, just kiss me and have a few more moments together".
Tears stung his eyes now, too. Fells pressed his lips against hers and nodded.
He held her tight and closed his eyes. The kiss was filled with desperation. It was different from the other kisses they shared because they knew that it would be the last one in a long time. There was no lust involved, just deep pure love.
The feel of his lips on hers, was what she needed, even as it became so desperate and filled with nothing but love, pure love that they shared within one another. Normally she could bring him into her mind during certain lustful acts but this time it was different as she opened up, testing the link she hoped that they now had. Sharing all she had for him.
Something shifted when they were kissing. It felt like Lea let him in. She was opening up to him.without words. It was extremely helpful for him because he realized that there were no hard feelings or accusations against him.
"Thanks." He whispered against her lips, wiped a stray tear away and whispered.
"You and our kids mean everything to me. I'd do anything for you."
As he responded to her thoughts Lea knew it was a special moment between them, before he thanked her and spoke about their children. " I'm happy that our bond now goes further and I know Imzadi, I would do anything for you as well".
"Starbase Sierra Security. We're about to enter your apartment." A loud voice was audible over the apartment speakers. Fells knew that security could enter all doors on the base but the captain's quarters.
His eyes connected with Lea's as he kissed her once more and then got up.
She hated the fact that they had found them so quickly and so when he kissed her once more, she made it last, tears now flowing as he got up.
Fells slipped on some pants so he wouldn't have to go in his underwear when a team entered their apartment.
He went to the living room. There he was greeted by three men in full armour. All three weren't part of his station, which he was thankful for, but knew him.
"Chief, we have a warrant for your arrest. Raise your arms above your head."
Fells didn't object. He had a reputation.
"I've got a kid in the bedroom. I only ask you to do this quietly."
One of them circled him to pad him down and then looked at Lea. "Sorry, mam."
Of course she wasn't going to stay there without saying goodbye, so she followed him out, just as the three men, spoke to him and then apologised to her, when they padded him down." Do you really need to do this?, He was going to come down, all I wanted was a few moments, with the father of my children".
"Well....say goodbye." He cleared his throat clearly unhappy about this assignment.
"We hate to do this, boss."
Fells nodded.
"Put on a shirt." The other one said in a low tone, so Fells looked at Lea.
"We need you to hand over your key card, comm and weapons."
With a deep breath and now stony expression Fells went to the small safe where he safely stored those items and pressed his thumb on the reader.
His weapon was there within reach.
She could tell that they didn't like it but it didn't make it any better as she followed him, taking a moment to kiss him firmly once more.
Fells stared at the phaser. He could possibly take out one or two of them....but all three with Lea and Ari around?
He closed his eyes and stepped away from the safe, so they could take his things.
The security officers exchanged a glance when they contemplated putting him in cuffs but then the team leader spoke up.
"No cuffs. C'mon."
" Yes no cuffs, you know him". Lea was beside herself at this point and wished that he didn't have to be taken.
Fells reached for his shirt and pulled it on.
His expression had become stony in the face of things.
He locked eyes with Lea once more, then headed for the door followed by his former colleagues.
He couldn't tell that it was all a mistake or give her false hopes.
So he let them take him away from home.
She looked at him, conveying her love for him as he was taken away and once he was gone, she moved to the sofa and broke down sobbing......
