[Ens. Isaiah Quinn - Kitchen, ??] Isaiah had been through team-building exercises all too often. It was essential for each of the Parrises Squares teams he'd played on when growing up. Surviving the Academy felt like one large team-building exercise. Some of his former supervisors also felt the same way, running their staff through the paces. It hadn't been that much of a surprise when he'd received the invitation to participate. His mind was running through all the typical exercises: trust falls, zip lines.... Suffice it to say, he was expecting some sort of obstacle course when he entered... not a kitchen. "Wow," he said marveling at his surroundings. "I think this kitchen may be the size of my quarters." His head turned as he looked over in Thea's direction, wondering how she'd reacted to the setting. As he looked around, it all seemed so domestic. There were hardwood floors, a brick finish on the far wall, and the countertops... was that granite? He moved closer to inspect, and his eyes noticed the place settings... for two. Was this really a team-building exercise or was someone trying to.... He glanced over in Thea's... Dr. Baker's... direction once again. He pushed the thought aside, and allowed his eyes to move from the wine glass to the PADD that rested between the two place settings. "What's that?" he asked as he started to move closer to inspect the PADD's contents. It read as a shopping list. It seemed that they had to select items off the list. There didn't seem to be a suggestion as to which items, but they were expected to choose so many items per section. "So, Doc... what's for dinner?" He assumed she'd have a better idea of what to choose from the list. It was then that Isaiah noticed the countdown overhead. It had to be part of the challenge as well. He sighed slightly, wishing there was a replicator in reach. "I hope that's not our prep time." His eyes settled on the wine glass once again and he gestured towards it. "I guess the wine seems like an obvious first choice, right?"

[ Thea - Kitchen] To say that she was a little nervous about the team building exercise was an understatement, especially as it had been a couple of years, since she had last done one. Although there was a bonus to this particular training in the form of her partner. Ever since she had treated him on Kerelia, Thea was keen to get to know Quinn more, not in a romantic way, but as a friend, as she could certainly do with having some company, rather than try to find ways to occupy herself. Not that she bored easily but still, it would be nice to talk to other people, as opposed to the holographic kind. Plus she had to remember not to make a complete and utter fool of herself, as the last thing was to cause any embarrassment. However that all depended on what the exercise would be and at the same time, hope that her natural wit and ability to fun, would distract from any mistakes that she made. Curiosity quickly tried to take over the nerves as the doors to the holodeck opened and she followed Quinn inside. Barely hearing his remark about the kitchen being the size of his quarters as the horror of what she was seeing, threatened to fill her with dread, at the thought of having to cook. The memory of her last failed attempt, jumped to the front of her mind and how she had vowed never to do so again, as she clearly wasn't meant to be a domestic goddess. Although she could admit that the setting was a lot nicer than some places she had seen and whoever had created this, definitely had good taste. Slowly getting over the horror of the situation she found herself in, Thea walked further in, not really reading much into the set up for two, then again a friendly dinner with Quinn wouldn't be a bad thing, assuming she didn't burn the place down. Grateful for the distraction when Quinn drew attention to the PADD, which made Thea move closer to look at it, unable to prevent the grin when he then asked what was for dinner. Taking a moment to peruse the list, before he mentioned the countdown, agreeing with him in the hope it wasn't their prep time as Quinn then suggested wine first. " Well dinner depends on whether I can cook it or not, as the last time I tried it was a complete disaster, although I'm sure, we can figure it out together" she replied, then added. " As for the countdown .... mm hopefully not, but I agree we'll start with the wine first ... then something easy, so ground beef, spaghetti pasta, onions, tomatoes and cheddar cheese?".Thea was aware of the countdown as she looked at Quinn. " If there's anything you want to change, let me know, before I select the items, then we should still have plenty of time".

" If there's anything you want to change, let me know, before I select the items, then we should still have plenty of time". [Ens. Isaiah Quinn - Kitchen] The response to Isaiah's first question hadn't been what he had been expecting. The confident smile on his face faded slightly as she commented that the last meal she attempted to repair ended up (in her words) a disaster. It couldn't have been that bad. Perhaps her description was purely subjective. Maybe the meal came out a little bland... or slightly charred. It wasn't like she had burned down her quarters or anything. At least... he didn't recall any incident reports of the sort. He cleared his throat slightly and listened as she continued on. They seemed to agree on the wine. It seemed they were on the same page thus far. She then suggested they try something easy. As she listed the ingredients he naturally deduced she was aiming for spaghetti. He paused a moment, thinking about her own appraisal of her culinary skills. Yet, Dr. Baker did note that the recipe was easy, so perhaps it was something she had had some success with. Isaiah shrugged and shook his head slightly. "No, I'm fine with spaghetti," he stated. He was more than willing to yield to her expertise, because his own culinary skill hadn't really presented itself. Between home, the Academy and being shuffled off onto a starship, when had the opportunity presented itself? "It looks like we'd have everything we'd need, and there aren't many people from Brooklyn that would say no to spaghetti. Especially all the way out here. I say go for it." He paused and began to look around. Suddenly, his attention was captured by the items that they had agreed upon appearing on the counter. His eyes widened a bit with a sense of accomplishment. "All right," he began, "so how do you typically make your spaghetti: meatballs or meat sauce?"

[ Thea - Kitchen] As Thea waited to see how Quinn would respond, she looked over the ingredients list once more, wondering if she had made the right call about what she had picked. There was the usual bout of indecisiveness, something that usually happened, whenever she had a decision to make, not so much professionally but definitely when it came to activities outside of work. Okay this was technically work related, even if she wasn't in uniform, thanks to her choice of a long dress, with different shades of blue. For a moment, she allowed her mind to drift, before remembering that she was still the ranking officer here, but perhaps they would become relaxed enough to forgo rank and titles. When Quinn then agreed with her choice of spaghetti, there was a minute of silent relief, although after all this was about being a team and if he had wanted something different then, she was fine with that. " That's great Quinn" she replied, with a friendly smile, wondering if he would correct her, about his name. Although looked up as, he then spoke about, how it looked as though they had everything they needed, including some encouragement in the form of where he was from and how they should go for it. " You're right, its not often that I get this either, what with being from England" she admitted a little coyly, silently cursing herself for acting that way. Luckily she was then distracted by the arrival of the ingredients that she had suggested, trying to recall the best way to cook spaghetti as Quinn then asked how she would normally make it. " Usually meat sauce, but if you want to do meatballs, then I'm okay with that, both taste good".Thea then reached out for wine, picking the bottle up to examine the label, pausing when the clock caught her attention. "Oh look, we now have an hour".

"Oh look, we now have an hour".[Ens. Isaiah Quinn - Kitchen] The use of his last name hadn't gone unnoticed. It wasn't that it bothered him. After all, she was the ranking officer, and despite the fact that they were in civilian dress, they still had a task to complete. Isaiah himself was wearing a black pair of slacks and traditional gray oxford shirt. She commented that she didn't get the meal of spaghetti much often back from her own home in England. So used to the universal triangle and the number of alien languages it deciphered, he found himself paying a bit more attention to her accent after she mentioned her home. She stated that she preferred meat sauce to meatballs, but was willing to compromise. In all honesty, he had some friends that would consider it a cardinal sign to have anything other than meatballs, but he wasn't as picky. Besides, it always seemed as if there was more to go around when prepared with meat sauce. "Lady's choice," Isaiah commented with a smile. "Meat sauce it is. It may actually be a bit easier to prepare that way."[/font]. He looked at the rest of the ingredients as she picked up the wine bottle to examine it. "I guess division of labor is next. So, we need to: boil the pasta, prep the vegetables, grate the cheese, and brown the meat." At least, that's what Isaiah assumed after recalling a mental picture of a dish of spaghetti. It couldn't be that difficult after all, right? This was just like being in chem lab after all. He examined the renewed timer overhead. Just under an hour. In theory that should certainly be enough time. He then realized that he may have jumped the gun. Isaiah cleared his throat, and unspoken apology of sorts. "Does that sound okay with you, Doctor?" he asked. It was all too typical of him to get caught up in the moment. He had to remind himself that this was a team task, and without thinking he'd begun to pick the ball and run with it without discussing strategy with his teammate.

[ Thea - Kitchen] Thea had learnt to many times in her past, what compromise could do, if the other person wasn't interested or pretended to go along with it. Although just because there had been some not so nice experiences, she could already tell that Quinn wasn't like that. Maybe she was just naive in some respects or perhaps had become a good judge of character over the years. The CMO liked to think of the latter, as so far, yes things could of ended up completely awkward and there was a chance that could still happen. But she would be optimistic and determined that they wouldn't fail this task. The fact that he hadn't commented on her use of his surname, was intriguing or maybe she was reading too much into it, as he answered her, by saying it was lady's choice and smiled, before telling her that the meat sauce option, might be easier to prepare. " Yeah it does sound the easier option, especially with the time we have" she replied, as Quinn then spoke about dividing up the labour and ran through the list of what they would need to do. Seeing no issue with what was said, because he wasn't wrong. However Thea did put the wine down as he then cleared his throat and asked, if that sounded okay to her. Quickly realising what he was doing and Thea knew she had to focus, a little better, but at the same time, wanted to reassure, that she didn't think any less of him. " It does indeed, what part of the prep would you like to do?, and I was thinking, given the setting we're in, I'm okay if you want to call me Thea ".

" It does indeed, what part of the prep would you like to do?, and I was thinking, given the setting we're in, I'm okay if you want to call me Thea ".Isaiah Quinn [Ens. Isaiah Quinn - Kitchen] "Thea," he said aloud. It was almost as if he were testing how the name felt as it rolled off his tongue. He had worked with a few higher ranking officers that preferred being called by their given names. In some of those instances, it simply felt awkward. And it wasn't that he had been on intent of disobeying their requests. They simply had an aura around them that wouldn't allow him to address them in any manner other than a professional manner. That didn't appear to be the case with Thea. Perhaps she was right, and their setting lended a bit more credence to addressing her by her given name. Either way, it just felt right. He nodded, acknowleging her request. "And Isaiah is fine, if you prefer it to Quinn." He then thought about her earlier question, which was asking him which part of the prep he wanted to do. "I think that we should play to our strengths as much as possible," said Isaiah. He started moving about the kitchen. and opening some of the drawers. "Ah. Here we go." He pulled out a knife and a cheese grater. He extended the handle of the knife in her direction. "I think the most skilled hands in this quadrant will make short work of the vegetables," he stated with a smile. "I'll shred the cheese after I get the water boiling." His eyes had already scouted the pot ont he far wall. "And if the onions start to get to you, I'm more than willing to trade off."It seemed like a fair division of the labor. He only hoped that Thea agreed as well. His mind wasn't really on the timer overhead. Nor was he immediately concerned about their ability to complete the task. He agreed with Thea's earlier appraisal, that the pair of them should be able to pull it off. Though, he knew that it was still a team-building exercise, and communication was key to them working together. His eyes did fall upon the bottle of wine. It had captured her interest earlier, and he didn't want to dismiss it all together. "Do you think that'll work, Thea?" he asked before committing to any one task.

[ Thea- Kitchen] For a moment Thea, wasn't sure how Quinn would react to her being so bold and suggesting that he call her by her first name, as opposed to "Doctor" or if he insisted, "Commander". So when he then said her name out loud, she smiled, liking the way he said it. Although thankfully, her smile was enough, as he then told her to call him Isaiah, if she preferred to Quinn. Whilst Thea liked his surname, it was only fair that she follow suit and so it was her turn to speak. " As much as I do like Quinn, I'm happy to call you Isaiah" she replied softly, realising that probably came out a little cheesier than she intended, but it wasn't often that she got to be in this kind of situation and she was definitely out of practice. Either that or she was just showing herself up as per usual and silently cursed, for not engaging her brain properly before speaking. Hoping her smile and friendly demeanour would work in her favour, so it wouldn't cause too many judgements on being a complete dork. Thea then paid more attention as Isaiah suggested that they play to their strengths, when it came to sharing out the tasks. Watching as he then moved around and opened some of the drawers. Never once taking her focus off of him, especially when he found the cheese grater and a knife. " Flattery always works on me" she quipped as he handed her the knife and commented about her skills. A slight blush and a grin followed, but instead accepted the knife as he spoke about what he would do, along with his generous offer of taking over, if the onions got to her. " I'll remember that and its a good job, that I'm wearing waterproof mascara, don't want to look like a Panda, by the end of it".When he then asked if that would work and said her name once more, Thea smiled again as she responded. " Yes I think it will, Isaiah".

Isaiah Quinn - Kitchen] Hearing Thea use his given name hadn't caused him any angst or nervousness, nor had it apparently forced the station's reactor to go into a meltdown. It did however, cause his lips to curl into a deeper smile. He began to wonder if everyone was going through a team-building exercise like this one. It was certainly far different than any exercises of the sort he had endured. He chuckled slightly as Thea mentioned flattery always worked on her, as she took the knife. "I'll remember that," he said with a nod. "Though... is it still flattery if I believe it's true?"He may have been biased with respect to that point of view. Thea had played a heavy hand in quite possibly saving his life. He thought briefly about the last away mission to Kerelia. He couldn't recall most of it when he hit the triage tent after those Tritters had attacked. Though, one of the things he did recall was her... and her eyes. It was funny that she mentioned her mascara around the same time the thought had crossed his mind. "They are such majestic creatures, though," he remarked. As she agreed to the plan, Isaiah proceeded to get started with his own tasks. He retrieved the pot from the shelf and then moved to the sink, where he began to fill it partially with water. Once he was satisfied witht he amount, he turned it off and placed the pot on the stove. "Computer, activate the forward left heating filament." The only reply was silence. He then studied the stove further. "I guess all voice commands are turned off. Umm.... He began to scrutinize the stove a bit more, and then found a button that seemed to indicate it was the control for the desired eye he wanted to activate. After applying a bit of pressure he heard a soft beep. He then, slide his hand along the panel, and watched as a glow began to appear beneath the pot.
Satisfied (at least for now) that he had managed to to turn it on, he grabbed the pasta stalks and snapped them almost in half, so that they'd be fully submerged in the water. It was something he'd recall seeing his mother do, merely when passing her by on his way to obtain a snack before dinner. He took a deep breath, thinking perhaps it wasn't the best idea to work in complete silence during this exercise. "So, how does Thea spend her time when she's not saving lives or participating in timed sequences of team-buidling exercises?" he asked as he looked over his shoudler in her direction.

[ Thea - Kitchen] Even though she had cursed herself internally for some of the comments she had made to Isaiah, the sound of his chuckle about what she had said regarding flattery, put her at ease somewhat. Trying not to blush again, when he told her that he would remember that, before commenting on if it was still flattery, if he believed it was true. Thea hadn't thought of it like that, but at the same time, couldn't resist a slightly cheeky response, as she grinned at him and spoke. " Oh yes that still counts".As the internal battle raged inside her, about what else she could of said, without looking like a complete desperate idiot. Thea's thoughts and her voice were then stunned into silence for a moment, with the remark, Isaiah then made in reference to her eyes. Or that was what she had taken from it and remembered how he had focused on them, back in the triage tent on Kerelia. That compliment, earned him a smile as well as a honest response from the CMO. " Thank you, its not often I get so many compliments in one day".When Isaiah then began to start the tasks that he had offered to do, Thea was reminded of the fact that they still had to complete the exercise. So as he dealt with filling a pot of water, Thea located a chopping board and a couple of bowls in which to place the chopped vegetables and started to cut up the tomatoes. Smirking to herself slightly as she thought about his earlier comments, before he gained her attention about the vocal commands, being turned off. Usually that would cause a little bit of panic, but considering the exercise, it wasn't too much of a surprise, if she really thought about it, as it wasn't meant to be so easy and straightforward. " Not to worry, I'm sure we'll manage without them and besides it kind of reminds me of being back home".That much was true as Thea thought of her Mother and how she preferred to do things the old fashioned way, only relying on technology when needed, although she did have at least one replicator in the house. Finishing one tomato and starting another, she watched briefly as Isaiah then tackled the spaghetti, before he asked what she did, when she wasn't saving lives or taking part in team building exercises. " I like to run, read holo novel and old fashioned books and when I have the chance, I also enjoy spending time in the holodeck, what about you?".

[...] " I like to run, read holo novel and old fashioned books and when I have the chance, I also enjoy spending time in the holodeck, what about you?".Isaiah Quinn [Ens. Isaiah Quinn - Kitchen] Thea's words gave Isaiah a moment of pause. She had stated that she hadn't received so many compliments in a single day. He wasn't sure how such a thing was possible, but at the same time begun to wonder if had embellished in any of the praise he'd been giving. In his estimation it didn't seem so, but he began to wonder if he should be a bit more careful about what he'd said. He didn't want to make her uncomfortable. As the conversation turned to how she Thea spent her spare time, Isaiah instantly picked up on the number of things they seemed to have in common. He had to wonder if that had anything to do with why they'd been paired together... not to mention a supposed motive for doing so. "That's funny," Isaiah commented. "It sounds like we have a number of things in common. I usually include a run in my workout as well. My favorite route in the park takes me along the... marigolds." He paused after mentioning the flowers. Talk about deja vu. "You should try it some time." It really felt as if he'd had this conversation before. He wondered why their paths hadn't crossed before. Perhaps she ran elsewhere, or perhaps it was her schedule. He could imagine that a doctor's schedule, not to mention being the chief medical officer, was far more demanding than usual. He thought about her enjoying time on the holodeck. He didn't mind traditional books, but that typically required him being completely stationary. "Um, what kind of holo novels do you prefer? I could be wrong, but I'm just having trouble imagining you in in the middle of a horror." Of course, he didn't really understand why anyone would subject themselves to that sort of gore voluntarily. His eyes glanced up at the timer. They were making decent time. He had already finished with the spaghetti for now. He had actually moved back towards the counter and begun to grate the cheese into an empty bowl.

[ Thea - Kitchen] Tomatoes chopped and placed into the bowl, Thea then took a second to think, especially when Quinn didn't say anything about her not getting many compliments. Of course her mind went straight to her stupidity at being too honest and how she should remember to think, but then maybe she was just overthinking things again. Deciding it was probably for the best that she didn't say anything else about it, because she might just end up putting her foot in it completely and yet she found that she didn't want him to stop either. However when he did speak again, after she had shared with him about what she liked to do in her spare time. Her worries and insecurity, vanished for a moment as he mentioned, how they had several things in common. Momentarily taken back to the jungle of Kerelia again at the reference to how he liked to run through the park and how she should try the trail with the marigolds. He could be forgiven for repeating it, as he wasn't exactly with it so to speak and had probably not heard her original response. Which now allowed her to share that with him, as she was yet to try it. " It seems that we do and I do remember telling me about the trail with the marigolds, but I haven't been able to try it yet, perhaps you can show me the route instead".After cursing herself for being so bold again, Thea began peeling the outer layer of the onions as he then asked about the type of holo novels she preferred as he was having trouble imagining her in the middle of a horror. " Okay I will admit that I like the occasional romantic holo novel, but other than that I enjoy historical ones, as well as crime and mysteries" she replied as he returned to the counter to tackle the cheese and she began to chop the onions.

Isaiah Quinn [Ens. Isaiah Quinn - Kitchen] Isaiah stopped grating the cheese for a moment as Thea revealed that he had told her about the trail with the marigolds. It was a bit of a comfort, because at least he knew he hadn't imagined it. It was just a testament to how out of it he had been during that mission. He took a deep breath, silently hoping that that wouldn't be a frequent occurence for him on away missions. Yet, he also found himself paying attention to the suggestion that he show her the route personally. "As long as you don't mind having a partner," Isaiah said with a slight smile. Some people preferred to run along. It was simply a way to escape without having any other cares in the world for that span of time. Isaiah simply wanted to make certain that he wasn't intruding upon that, if Thea felt that way. "It'd probably be easier to work around your schedule. Just let me know when you're free."He heard the confession about how she enjoyed the typical romantic holo novel. His smile widely, feeling that he'd had his some unspoken suspicion confirmed. "Hey, in all honesty, there's nothing wrong with a good love story," he declared. "After all, isn't that life? One big love story? Right up to the very end... no spoilers." Isaiah tilted his head slightly. Unless of course you get a peek through some sort of temporal anomaly, but who does that ever happen to?"As he renewed his efforts to grate the cheese, he continued. "Be honest... you enjoy dressing up for these earlier eras, don't you? I'll confess: I certainly do. There's just... something to be said for being able to walk through the door and escape the 24th century." He glanced over to see how she was coming with the vegetables. So, what is your favorite era? The one that never disappoints?"

[ Thea - Kitchen] " I don't mind at all, in fact it'll be nice to have someone to run with again" Thea admitted, as Quinn answered her bold suggestion with a slight smile. As much as she enjoyed running on her own, there was just something about having another person there, that made it that more fun. In fact she still couldn't quite believe that her boldness had worked and tried not to let her obvious delight show, but being who she was, failed spectacularly. That wasn't difficult in all fairness, especially when Isaiah then suggested that it would be easier to work around her schedule and to let him know, when she was free. " Sounds good to me and I definitely will".In all of her excitement at the prospect of spending more time with Quinn, Thea was surprised that she hadn't caused herself an injury with the knife as she reached for the last of the onions. Commending herself on not being a complete klutz as Isaiah declared that there was nothing wrong with a good love story, following her revelation over what holo novels she liked. This instantly made Thea feel better and that she wasn't some lame, romantic fool, even more so with what he said next. Finding herself immersed in the truth of his words and how she agreed with him. " That's very true, I like how you think and I agree, that type of thing, never really happens, I prefer to find out the old fashioned way, rather than look through some temporal anomaly".It seemed as though Isaiah was keen to find out more, when he wanted her to be honest with him about how she enjoyed dressing up for her adventures in the holodeck. That caused her to look at him again, wondering if she should tease him, until he made a confession of his own. That certainly intrigued her further, before he asked what her favourite era was. " You've got me there, as I adore being able to dress up and fully immerse myself in another time and just forget the outside world for a little while" she replied, then added. " As for my favourite era, it has to be the 1960's".As she said that, Thea couldn't help but smile as she reminisced about her favourite time period, before the onions decided to remind her about how strong they could be. Forcing herself not to wipe her eyes, determined to persevere, until she could put them in the bowl and move them away from her.
