Personal History
Early Life/Pre-Starfleet Career:
Dugris Zaman was born on El-Auria in a year corresponding to Terran year 1283. As a child, he proved very adept in math and the sciences, immensely curious, but also klutzy and quite forgetful. During his schooling, he accidentally blew up two separate classrooms.
Dugris started out his career on El-Auria as an architect, specializing in single-family residences. He succeeded in this trade, despite his poor organizational skills, but eventually grew tired. Consequently, just after turning 200 (Terran) years of age, he departed for the Alpha Quadrant to Listen.
The young man's travels took him to Granada, Spain, on Earth, during the 1490s. There, this strange, pale-skinned man, who lived as a hermit under the flimsy alias "Juan el Matemático" (Juan the Mathematician, in Doug's pre-UT translation), had the misfortune of drawing the attention of the Inquisition. He was tortured, and only escaped within an inch of his life.
After this escapade, Mr. Zaman continued to observe various planets, choosing either more enlightened and pluralistic pre-warp civilizations, or early-warp societies. He worked in a wide variety of trades, from warp physics to urban planning, before returning to Earth in the early 1800s. He settled in Scotland, under the given name "Doug", and worked as a shipbuilder for a time. However, irregularities in his taxes forced him to flee Scotland, and he turned up in Dublin, where he owned and bartended at a successful Pub for a period of about 15 years.
Thereafter, Doug worked on Earth in a variety of trades, under many aliases, and observed humanity's dramatic progress. In the year 1947, he was knighted by King George VI of England, for his contributions to the design of Diesel Locomotives.
In more recent times, Doug has toured the Federation as a respected visiting Professor, author, and researcher. He joined Starfleet as a Science Officer in 2367, following the Battle of Wolf 359, and remained in the fleet until 2380. His last assignment was as Chief of Science of Front Ear Station, with the rank of Lieutenant Commander.
In 2378, faulty handling of specimens from the planet Kerelia led to the PooDoo Flu outbreak on Cait, which an investigation ultimately found to be a result of Doug's negligence. Consequently, he was pushed into retirement in 2380.
At present, Doug consults for the fleet as a scientist, while also offering wilderness tours for groups in the virgin, unknown lands of Kerelia. Despite his devotion and intelligence, Doug's sloppy record-keeping and legendary forgetfulness mean he, and his experiences, are far less useful to Starfleet than one might expect.

Your character's most crucial experience
Doug's most crucial experience was his first visit to Earth. While it was a painful, dangerous experience, it also kicked off his lifelong fascination with the human species.
Who is your character's role model and why?
Please write a brief sample post from your character’s perspective:
[NPC - Sir Dugris "Doug" Zaman - Transport Carrier Ark]
The pilot's caution against petting the PooDoos wasn't entirely to Doug's liking. While unpredictable, and sometimes malevolent, PooDoos could also be kind beings, and when one understood their worldview, even their cruelty wasn't something that could be held against them. Case in point, the tamed Lesser PooDoo he had in a little carrier, which he had insisted on bringing.
"I have to point out that PooDoos aren't evil. They're misunderstood," he informed everyone, somewhat indignantly. "Once you get to know them, and learn to understand and respect them, they're no trouble at all. I can teach you all about PooDoos."
Slowly, he realized that maybe this lecture wasn't his smartest idea.
"I'm Sir Doug Zaman, the leading expert on Kerelia," the eccentric El-Aurian introduced himself.

With a couple of taps on the console to her near left, Lieutenant Niamh O'Leary switched communications and addressed everyone on board. =/\= "Attention all hands, we have begun our descent. Our tropical destination, the creatively named LZ 1, boasts a balmy temp of 26°C. No munchin' on the flora, and no pettin' the PooDoos. Thanks for choosin' Ark Air for all yer travel needs. Strap in, kids." -/\=
