Personal History
Early Life/Pre-Starfleet Career: How does any story start? With birth, of course. It wasn’t anything remarkable, just a typical Andorian birth. Zerish would insist that the seven hours were more impressive than they truly were, but it was as if young Kova was waiting for her mother to beam directly into the hospital from her ship, which her captain raced back to Andoria. And shortly after her birth, life seemed to return to normal. Shryli went returned to the stars, Tarris argued policies, Kyhr composed his novels and Zerish raised her daughter.
Kova grew, and being the first born, everything was brand new for her parents. By them time they were all ready to try again, Kova found herself the eldest of two other siblings: Tilliss and Kir. Kova grew up worshipping her mother, Shryli whom she saw the least. Perhaps that immortalized her in Kova’s eyes for a time. Though, she gained her father, Tarris’ stubbornness and her other father, Kyhr’s creativity. It was Zerish her nurtured her interest in technology, and it was no surprise when Kova began to dedicate herself to a career in Starfleet.
Academy/Technical Academy (if Starfleet): Kova’s time at Starfleet exceeded her expectations. She found the competition among her peers invigorating, and it was rather exhilarating to be around so many different species besides Andorians. She did well in her classes, and found that she had quite a penchant for computer systems. It didn’t take her long to find that her niche lay in the operations track. She had a mind for security and tactical training as well, and who didn’t love a good mystery? Though, Kova would soon come to learn that some mysteries were better left unsolved.
It had been just another visit with her mother at a cafe in San Francisco. It had been months since her mother had made it back this far. They had simply been talking about Shryli heading to Andoria to see the rest of the family when her X.O. approached her. Mentioning something about a security breach by the Romulans. Humans always thought whispering bought them privacy, but their voices carried. Before her mother could leave, Kova asked if she could help. The mention of purged data and erased records was right up the young Andorian’s alley. But her mother had instructed her to leave it alone. The number of nights she wished she’d listened were countless.
It took breaking a few rules, but the ends would justify the means. She was able to infiltrate the system’s of her mother’s ship and even find the communique files that had been deleted. What she found was that the evidence implicated her mother in more ways than one. It turned out her incompetence paled in comparison with her infidelity. A clandestine courtship that gave a Romulan operative access to secure information. And so, Kova did the only thing she could think of: protect her mother.
She doctored the records to implicate herself, making it appear as if she were the guilty party and had taken advantage of her mother’s credentials. Besides, as a cadet, her punishment had to be less severe than her mother’s would have been. And it was a chance to keep the family together, so that they wouldn’t be torn apart by such a scandal. Kova had been right… to an extent. She was expelled from the Academy and sentenced to a penal colony. Her family clung close together, with the exception of her. So, to protect what she loved most from further shame, Kova drifted further and further away into obscurity.
Previous Assignments (if applicable): After serving her time at the New Zealand Penal Settlement, Kova decided to get as far from Earth as she could. First, she shopped her skills out in the Orion system. However, her conscience got in the way of a lot of the work she did there. Couple that with the prospect that she could eventually find herself a slave, Kova didn’t stay there long.
Her travels then took her towards the Bajor system, where she found herself involved with the Maquis for a time. At first it started off as hacking Cardassian systems and learning routes so that Maquis ships could evade them to deliver supplies. Though as things became more radical and lives were lost (Cardassian lives as well), Kova felt it was time to move on again. For the next few years, she was a bit of a nomad, going wherever she could find work, until she heard about Front Ear Station. It seemed like fertile grounds ripe for opportunity, and it was a long way from the place she once knew as home.

Please write a brief answer to 3 of the following (a sentence or two for each is fine):
Your character's most painful experience The exile from her family, in particular her brother Kir who called her traitor shortly after her court-martial. Though nothing stung as much as her mother so readily discarding her with barely an afterthought.
Your character's best or favorite experience The day she left Andoria to join Starfleet. To know that in about four years, she'd be walking in her shreya's footsteps.
Your character's most crucial experience Pleading to the charges that had her thrown out of Starfleet, all to protect someone she cared about.
Who is your character's role model and why? Her role model was her other, Shryli. The woman was like a hero to her. Away for months at a time exploring the galaxy and protecting those that couldn’t protect themselves. She was the source of Kova’s sense of ethics.
Please write a brief sample post from your character’s perspective:
Kova wasn't sure what she expecting, but she knew it wasn't silence. She had been hoping for some sort of affirmation, some sense of gratitude. Anger... Relief... anything to show that what she had done and what she had given up actually mattered. Though as she sat there, staring through the barrier at her mother, the only emotion portrayed was one of indifference. "I told you to leave it alone," Shryli said flatly. The Andorian woman sighed and shook her head. "You've made quite a mess of things."
Kova simply stared at the Andorian woman. All her life, she knew the woman before her to be her mother. However, now, she understood for the first time in her life that she had absolutely no idea who that woman was. "I've made a mess?" Kova repeated. She made no effort to hide the pain of betrayal in her voice. "I was cleaning up your mess!"
Shryli's eyes widened as she stared back at her daughter. Her lips parted slightly, as if to offer up some sort of explanation, but the only thing that emerged was silence. Kova glared back at her. "I know everything," Kova confessed. "And I did everything for you, shreya." Kova blink slightly, feeling her eyes brimming with tears.
Her mother moved closer to the barrier, almost wishing she could touch her daughter's face, to wipe away the tears. "Oh my sweet, little shei," Shryli said softly. She took a deep breath, almost as if she knew she were looking upon her daughter for the last time. "We all must make sacrifices for the family. This one is yours."
For just a moment, Kova had been expecting words of comfort, or a fond wish farewell. Something for her to cling to and to hope for. Instead, the lesson she learned that day was that there were some things that were colder than the surface of Andoria. One of them being her shreya's love for her.
