[Cmdr. Judith Eastman(-Williams) - Bridge, USS Mac]Judy took note of the information as it was conveyed to her, from both sides. She didn't reach her present station by having a one-track mind. She considered the possibility that they had stumbled upon a wormhole, stable or unstable, and how she could act to make an encounter with a wormhole (or whatever anomaly) go smoothly. She processed rather quickly, her mind still quite sharp at over 60 years of age. "Since we don't know where it is, we can't really go around it or go straight towards it,," she said, having conceived and rejected the idea in her head. "Ensign Niles, good idea. Let's get the shields up at 5% power, and stand by to crank that up some more. Better safe than sorry."Judy didn't want to take too many unnecessary risks, and backing themselves up with the shields seemed prudent. She also didn't appreciate flying relatively blind. She turned towards the science console. "Lieutenant Quinn, I want you to run any scans that you think could help us know more. Where it is, how long it's been there, how stable it is, and so on," she directed. "Any resource you need, you got it."With that taken care of, the helm was next. "Helm, be prepared to take us back home, should the need arise," she ordered. Last but not least came Saya. "Chief, is there any part of the ship that we should be particularly worried about, beyond the torpedo bay?" she asked. "Anything that's been acting up?"Judy propped up one elbow on the XO seat, and listened for her subordinates' responses. [ MCPO Ozu Saya - Bridge] Saya dipped her head to Ensign Niles, acknowledging his thanks, before turning back to her station again. She listened to the reports from science and tactical, her brow furrowing slightly as her mind immediately began running through possible issues the ship might face that they would need to be able to handle quickly. When Judy asked about other maintenance issues, Saya took a moment before replying as some diagnostics were still running. I don’t belie- But she didn’t get to finish the sentence. The newest updates on the situation seemed to be concerning. If they didn’t know where it was from the information that was given then it was going to be next to impossible to navigate it without a clear picture. Maybe there could be a chance that there would be good news in a sense where there might be information that would get them closer to a clear picture. He was ready to imput the coordinates that would get them back home when the time called for it. [Lt. (j.g.) Isaiah Quinn - Bridge, USS Mac] Quinn listened as preventative measures were taken to preserve the safety of the ship. Ensign Niles had suggested bringing up the shields to help back up the main deflector. It was a sound precaution, but if they could avoid bumping into anything in the dark, he knew he'd prefer that. And as Commander Eastman asked him to continue his scans, to learn more about what was possibly out there. "Aye, Commander," Quinn replied. He wasted no time in attempting to do just that. Still, he wanted to be thorough and not miss anything. =/\= "Quinn to astrometrics. We're going to commence a Level 4 multiphasic scan. We'll start with the forward areas. Begin with grids 1 through 6. Record all data and forward your findings to me. The moment you come across any significant hazard within 400 kilometers of the ship, forward that information to the helm immediately." =/\= Quinn first looked towards Ensign Graham whom was at the helm. "Is that enough of a heads up, Mr. Graham?" Quinn then glanced in Eastman's direction, hoping he hadn't overstepped, but thought it was a plausible notion when it came to the safety of the ship. He proceeded to commence his own scans beginning with grid 7. The problem was that it would take some time. The fact that the systems seemed to be experiencing further malfunctions did little to appease his concern, despite Chief Ozu's diligence in addressing them as they arose. Essentially, completing these scans seemed to be a matter where getting it right was more preferable to simply getting it done. His eyes continued to analyze the readings as he proceeded to sweep through the area scan by scan, band by band, making note of any and all subspace echos, surges of radiation, whatever the scans turned up. [Ens Joshua Niles - Bridge, USS Mac ]Over the course of his training, Joshua had been warned that as an Ensign, even one who might have Bridge duty, his role well might be to be nothing more than a mouthpiece for his Department Head or their Assistant, or just a silent operator at a station who was expected to say nothing other than acknowledging orders, and provide the odd report when there was no one senior to them to pass them on. But, it would seem, the Mac valued the input of her officers and the enterprising young officer reckoned that so long as he stayed in his lane and remained respectful of his superiors then he wouldn't get slapped down for speaking up. And, that meant his suggestion to raise shields had been considered, and approved so his hands danced on his board to bring up the shields to the requisite power levels, and the capacitors that would snap them to full strength were ready to feed all of their power to the emitters at a mere press of a button. Overall, he let matters of astrogation and scientific interest go in one ear and out the other, but he maintained awareness of radiation levels and subspace disturbances about the ship. But what was drawing his attention were traffic patterns. If there was anything unusual happening, then civilian traffic would start deviating from the regular shipping lanes. But, as he watched, another alarm code started blinking on his console and his readings became garbled for a moment before clearing up. "Commander, tactical shows a malfunction. Looks like tracking sensors are on the fritz."

[...]=/\= Crewman Som, please report to power relay junction 17-Gamma on Deck 9. There are some odd readings causing a diagnostic alert. =/\= [...] Kaya had already watched K'dex go up to solve a mess hall replicator issue. When the request had come in for that bit of repair, Kaya had slunk down in her chair. She and those replicators and Oerstadt had been through a few rounds already. But now there was something else. =/\= Aye, Chief. =/\= Kaya sent her acknowledgement to Chief Ozu and headed up from Engineering to Deck 9. As she strolled down the corridors, she pulled her plasma goggles down over her eyes and hummed a little song about busy work. She wasn't mad, though. She liked power relays and the brig was on Deck 9. [ Crm Som | Brig, Deck 9]Kaya stopped at the doors to the ship's brig, which were, of course, not going to just swoosh open for anyone. She announced herself to the panel. "S'Riia, hey, it's Kaya," she said to her friend she knew to be on-duty. "Come talk to me a second." It was probably nothing, but she should let the security guard know that the lights could go out on them.

Tags: Judith Eastman , Isaiah Quinn , Ozu Saya , Alex Graham [Cmdr. Judith Eastman(-Williams) - Bridge, USS Mac]Judy was a little bit disappointed to hear that the sensors were acting up too. Power relay issues were sadly predictable, a simple reality of life, but having an issue with any sensor subsystem wasn't optimal. Before she could comment on that, however, the ship was rocked by a subspace wave. It jerked suddenly, and rather forcefully, to the left, right, and then left again. Then, just as suddenly, it calmed down. Naturally, Judy was caught totally unaware by the wave. She fortunately managed to grab onto the XO's chair with both hands, avoiding what would've been, certainly at her age, a painful fall. However, she did feel her left ankle twist outwards in her Orthopedic shoe. Not the first time she'd sprained it, to be sure, but it hurt nonetheless. She cried out in pain, briefly, but didn't dwell on. "Report!" she called out, to all the bridge crew. Then, she staggered to the Captain's chair, sat down, and propped both legs up on the Counselor's chair to take the weight off. For those who'd had a chance to get to know the First Officer, her sudden brevity, as well as the unusual posture, were tipoffs that she was trying to soldier through, but maybe shouldn't. The ship itself was in a similar state to Judy. A few relays had overloaded, the warp core was under some strain, and various components were tossed and turned about, but it was still mostly functioning.

[Deck 2 mess - Brody] "A study of human nature. Not my thing. I'm more into adventure or crime stories. Something from Earth."He was always interested in the heritage of his species. When he heard about Elijahs profession he instantly knew he respected him. "I have great respect for your profession."Compared to this smart hands on man, his own job was somewhat dry. "I'm a planetray geologist. I specialize in the use of minerals in construction technology. So stones...I know stones. Most people find that quite boring, I'm aware."An awkward smile tugged on his lips because not many people shared his passion. [Deck 2 - Mess Hall] Elijah smiled at Brody’s response. “ I have a few novels that cater to your interests, I could bring you a few tomorrow?” He wasn’t sure what the other man would think of him requesting another sitting, but he rather liked having his company - especially when books were a topic of conversation. It wasn’t unusual for Elijah to keep completely to himself, and he knew it was a shortcoming of his that he actively tried not to make friends. He inclined his head at Brody’s respect, though he was tempted to mention he’d yet done much to earn said respect beyond education - something he knew he’d rectify with every opportunity. He smiled too when the other man self-depreciated his own interest, finding his humble attitude becoming. “ My knowledge of geology is limited to Earth, I’m afraid, but I understand the profession has been invaluable for humanity. I wouldn’t be so rude as to proclaim another field or study is boring, simply because it’s not the path I took. I would be interested to hear about your work sometime.” He would say then and there but he was conscious he did have to leave for his shift soon. After he said as much, he noticed Chief Baker getting up from her table and heading towards a replicator, one he now realised was broken. He hoped nobody had sustained any burns due to the hot liquid. He wondered if he should offer his assistance but wasn’t sure what he would be able to do, beyond advising others to stand back but he felt that was common sense.
Tag Fells Halgerdur[Deck 2 mess - Brody Cooper] "Oh yeah...why not?" Brody replied with a friendly smile. He would love to experience reading a real book himself. Not many people could say that about themselves. As stiff as his new acquaintance might be, he was one if the first people he met and he was interested in geology, which didn't happen a lot. "I'd love to tell you a little about my job. In fact there are some interesting details about the moon near the space station...Frontier." Both got distracted by the noise from the broken replicator. As he took a drink of his 'coke' he made a face. It was mostly just water. "Yep...it was broken when I got my drink, too." With a look at his Padd he shook his head. "My shift doesn't start for another two hours...poor time management here. What do you do around here for so long?" Obviously he was new. That's when his glass and plate suddenly fell off the table because a strange motion shook the ship. Confused Brody bent down to retrieve it, just to experience another mini ship quake that pushed his against the edge of the table. The glass which he had grabbed broke at that same edge, which left him even more confused. Quickly he pulled his head back up, now sporting a bit of an imprint from the edge and asked. "What was that?"

[NPC - PO1 S'Riia - Brig, Deck 9, USS Mac] S'Riia narrowed her eyes as Cheron spoke. She was trying to determine if the woman was trying to be annoying, or if she simply bore such a personality. She had inquired about S'Riia's species and then commented that she'd never had Caitian before. The sentence seem to linger provocatively before she amended it saying that she was referring to the cuisine. S'Riia, however, wasn't so sure. "I don't think it would agree with you," was the security officer's only response. As the door swooshed open, Kaya appeared at the threshold. S'Riia's demeanor softened only slightly at the sight of her friend. As she moved towards the door however, the ship began to rock. Instinctively, S'Riia ended up crouching, firming her legs into the deck, along with one hand digging its nails into the deck in front of her as well. "Kaya, are you all right?" she asked instinctively of her friend. She quickly turned to inspect the state of the cells, to make certain that the fields were still active. As she did so, her hand hovered over her phaser, still secure in its holster. Had they collided with something? An area of dark matter? Were they under attack? Was the new guy manning tactical? Each of those scenarios seemed to unsettle the Caitian with increasing degree.

[Mess Hall - Deck 2] Engineering were definitely prompt following her call to them regarding the faulty replicator as the doors opened and a Caitian offer clad in gold entered and immediately went over to the affected area. That's when Thea recognised who he was from his service record and acknowledged him, before returning to what was left of her breakfast and her conversation with Datan. However just as she was taking the last mouthful, the ship suddenly and without warning began to shake, which had the CMO cling to the table, not wanting a repeat of being knocked unconscious like she had during the previous mission. The memories or lack of not remembering anything apart from the anomaly, then waking up in Sickbay after life saving surgery, had left Thea feeling a little vulnerable and unsure how to deal with it. As grateful as she was to be alive, this was the first time that she had been seriously injured and it had taken her a few weeks to work through it all and process everything. However she had to push past it as the shaking subsided just as quickly as it had started. Although at first glance it looked as though the only victims were the cutlery and plates. Getting to her feet, Thea was instantly in full Doctor mode as she checked on those in the Mess Hall. " Is everyone okay?" she called out, as she went over to the kitchen, in order to fetch the emergency medkit.

tags K'Dex , Datan , Elijah Azaria , Fells Halgerdur [Desk 2 - Mess Hall] Elijah smiled ever so slightly when Brody replied, his words didn’t reflect much enthusiasm but Elijah was encouraged by his smile that the offer was not a pointless one. “I look forward to hearing about your job and the moon you’ve mentioned,” he said, and placed his book into the sling bag he had underneath the table containing his PADD, a pack of tissues, and an oil lip balm. When Brody mentioned his drink, Elijah glanced at his own and frowned. His coffee was perfect, and he worried his order had been the one to break the machine. He continued glancing towards where an Engineer and Chief Baker were seeing to said technology while he listened to Brody speak. What did he do to kill time? He smirked, levelling his new found friend with more humour than he usually showed. “I read,” he said. “There’s also the gym.”
Working out and reading books were his favourite past times and he rarely did much else between work. He was about to enquire into Brody’s hobbies so that he could give a more personalised suggestion when he, and everyone else, was jerked around. He gripped the table to stop himself from sliding or falling from his chair, but was unable to save his mug of coffee from sliding to the floor and smashing. As soon as he was sure the harsh movements had stopped, he got to his feet and took in the sight of the mess hall in disarray. He then looked to Brody when he spoke, glad to see the other man was alright. But Elijah didn’t have an answer. “ People look to be fortunate here but there’ll have been casualties elsewhere. Please excuse me.” He stood and made his way over to the Chief. “ Ma’am, do you need me to assist here or shall I head down to the sickbay?”

tags K'Dex , Datan , Elijah Azaria , Fells Halgerdur [Mess Hall - Deck 2] K'Dex had just stretched his paw, cradling the tricorder probe, into the guts of the replicator, when the shake dropped him to the ground. His wrist was caught in the open panel hole, and he felt a faint pop in his wrist followed by a sharp pain, the probe falling to the inside of the panel area. His other paw had the presence of mind to drop the tricorder in his hand as he fell, and barely broke his fall enough to keep his head from hitting the floor. K'Dex instinctively attempted to claw into the solid floor with his 3 paws for traction. It wasn't much, but enough to keep him from sliding terribly much further. As the shaking subsided, he lifted his paw from inside the replicator and let it fall to his chest as he laid on his side, a short mur of discomfort in his throat. He heard the comm from Chief S... Ozu, and let it fall to the back of his mind as he attempted to assess what he should do now. It was quickly answered when someone asked the room if everyone was okay. "I did something to my wrist, it got caught." K'dex said, breathing shallowly to keep from jostling the wrist more. He let his tail swish slowly for pain, feeling nothing other than bumping into a pan that was now on the floor.

[mess hall deck 2 - NPC Brody Cooper] Pieces of broken glass and cups and dishes were now on the floor along with fluids and food. Brody briefly took in the mess and then looked up and Elijah, who was already on his feet. The doctor hurried over to his superior. For a lack of better options Brody followed him and stood next to him when he asked whether he should head to sickbay. He briefly pressed his hand to his forehead and brought it back to see whether he was bleeding but he wasn't so he offered the Cheif his help as well. "I'd like to help as well. Tell me what you need." It was simple and easy. As he looked around he saw that most people were okay but some seemed distressed or even hurt a little. Since he had no medical training, he could only use his best judgement and leave that part to the pros. Thea BakerElijah Azaria

[Mess Hall - Deck 2] Whilst she had been intent on assisting those who may of been injured in the Mess Hall, it was Chief Ozu who was the first to call through, asking for Medical to report to the Bridge. Still holding the emergency medkit, Thea then reached over to tap her commbadge with her free hand just as Elijah came over and asked where she needed him, pausing what she was doing in order to answer the Ensign. " We've just got a call from the Bridge, if you can go up there, I can handle things down here, then I'll meet you back in Sickbay" she replied as she tapped her badge. =/\= Baker to Bridge, acknowledged, Ensign Azaria will be with you asap =/\= Call made and orders given, Thea's attention then moved towards K'Dex as he told them that he had caught his wrist on something and it was clear to the CMO that he was in pain. However just before she went over to him, the Petty Officer who was with Elijah, offered his help which Thea appreciated. " If you like, you can help me here, starting with Ensign K'Dex" she said as she walked over to the Caitian. " Let me give you something for the pain then we can have a look at the wrist and see what's happened".Her tone was soothing as she loaded a hypo with pain relief and administered it.

[...] Overall, he let matters of astrogation and scientific interest go in one ear and out the other, but he maintained awareness of radiation levels and subspace disturbances about the ship. Looks like tracking sensors are on the fritz."Judy was a little bit disappointed to hear that the sensors were acting up too. Saya managed to grip the edge of her console and remain in her seat when the ship was rocked. She spun quickly when she heard Judy cry out. Because of their years of knowing each other and serving together, she immediately recognized the voice. Judy was already up and getting seated as she called for reports, so Saya turned back and checked her readings. All systems still relatively functional, she reported. Several relays in the same area I already sent Crewman Som. My greatest concern, however, is some strain to the warp core. I'll get someone on it immediately. She eyed the first officer over her shoulder and added, I'll call for a medic, too.Tapping her badge, Saya dealt with what she felt like was the more urgent issue first. =/\= Ozu to engineering, I need eyes on the engines - check all the plasma relays, connections, anywhere that might develop a weakness or leak. Check every stem-bolt. =/\= She knew that her people would understand the hyperbole, but would also take the orders seriously. There would be engineers getting eyes on every inch of the engine systems within a few minutes. =/\= Ozu to Medical, we need a doctor or medic on the bridge, please. =/\= [Lt. (j.g.) Isaiah Quinn - Bridge, USS Mac] Instinct took over as the ship began to rock. Isaiah gripped his station to steady the ship's attempt to throw him. It seemed someone that was in the most immediate danger had been Commander Eastman. She had called for a report and had avoided actually falling, but it was obvious that she was in pain. Chief Ozu was the first to respond. And as she stated all systems seemed to be functional, Isaiah's eyes confirmed it as far as his station. It didn't seem that they were in any immediate danger of malfunctions, but Ozu would ensure that remained the case. She also called for a medic to report to the bridge. "Science labs report no damage, and a few bumps and bruises," Isaiah reported. "Sensors still appear nominal. Taking a good look inside and out to see what took us to the rodeo. Isaiah's hands moved over his station as he did his best to ascertain what had just happened, and hopefully find a solution to prevent it from happening again. There was a bit of relief that washed over him in hearing Thea's voice over the comm. It meant that she was okay, which hadn't been the case when she had taken that nasty spill on the bridge. While she wasn't reporting, it seemed she was in position to dispense aid to the bridge to see after Commander Eastman.

[...] "Kaya, are you all right?" she asked instinctively of her friend. She quickly turned to inspect the state of the cells, to make certain that the fields were still active. As she did so, her hand hovered over her phaser, still secure in its holster.[...] [ Crwm Kaya Som | Brig ]Just as the brig doors opened, the ship lurched and Kaya was toppled across the corridor into the wall. She ended up on her arse on the ground. She grunted and stayed put for a moment; she'd had her bell run. S'Riia asked if she was alright. " Hah-de-zhi..." she groaned then nodded. "Yeah, fine. The hell was that?" As she got herself to her feet she looked around. No announcement, no red alert. No, 'prepare for battle stations'. They hadn't been knocked out of warp, she figured that. She followed S'Riia into the brig and logged into a panel. "Bridge isn't sure yet," she called to S'Riia who'd gone to the cells. Kaya craned her neck to see if she could see them, her curiosity not abated by the bump in the road. "Not seeing any damage reports. No major injuries." [ Arkarians | Brig ]Back in the cells, the Arkarians had been rocked just as much as everyone else. Benor's teacup had fallen and shattered. Malko and Cheron were picking themselves up off the ground. But then, Cheron froze and looked up. The lights had flickered. Just once. Benor picked up the shards of ceramic. "Fate's coming for us."[/color] It was then the security officer came into view. Cheron straightened up and Malko approached the force field. They could hear someone else's voice coming from the front. "What do you think?" he asked S'Riia. Some transport. Can't even fly straight."

While she wasn't reporting, it seemed she was in position to dispense aid to the bridge to see after Commander Eastman. [Ens Joshua Niles - Bridge, USS Mac ]Just as he had given his report, and before it could be acknowledged, the Mac lurched. As the three-million-plus-tons of starship were rocked, the young Tactical officer reached out with his left hand to steady himself, and the ship's movement, as it turned out, had been violent enough to make his grip slip over the edge of the console where he'd braced himself, and he felt not only pressure, but he also felt something tear, and a spike of pain shot from the just above his elbow and up to his shoulder, and down to his fingertips. And though he did not cry out, he winced visibly, and when the ship stopped moving, his right hand automatically slapped at his board, triggering the Yellow Alert. He might not have been ordered to do so, but they had just run across something, and even if there had been no orders to put the ship in a heightened state, both doctrine and good sense called for preparing for worse to come. Especially as reports started to flash up on his console. But before he read them, he looked at the palm of his left hand, and there, he could see something most unpleasant. The skin was torn, badly, and he could see the metal armature of his cybernetic metacarpals, and he let a soft curse under his breath as his right hand came to massage his upper arm, which was still flesh, bone and blood, the collar where his prosthetic was attached, and the nominally pain-insensitive padding simulating the flesh of a forearm that was no longer the one he'd been born with. This day had been one of moderate pain to begin with, but that jolt, that hadn't helped at all, and once he could be spared, he would need to get the synthetic skin of his palm repaired. However, in the immediate, he was still capable of functioning and he started to read out the reports that were flooding him. And on the bright side, the momentary distraction from his pain let other reports flow out first while he composed himself. "Shields up at maximum. Tracking sensors are back online via the backup links. I'm receiving reports of minor casualties ship-wide. Weapons are operational and available if needed, but aft torpedo bay is reporting an issue with the feeding system when the relay I had issues with earlier blew completely. Time to repair... not known."And when he looked from his board, he noticed that one thing had not budged: his coffee cup. The spill-proof lid had done its job, and the magnetic bottom had kept it just where he'd left it. Well, at least one thing didn't get rattled around, and when he reached for it, there as a very distinctive metal-on-metal sound as his prosthetic connected with the container, before he brought it to his lips.
