Personal History
Early Life/Pre-Starfleet Career:
Will was born on October 17th, 2358 on the USS Valley Forge to parents Joseph and Lisa Waring, Lieutenants in Science (Stellar Cartographer) and Engineering (Asst. Chief). His early years showed him as a bright, but mostly unmotivated student in his academic studies which made him an average student. He did his classwork but he found himself much more engrossed in the operations of the environment around him, a Starship.
As he grew, his parents let him observe some of the more mundane tasks in person rather than through a lengthy report. This only fed his interest and served to be his main driving force in the second half of his time in High School. In his final years of High School, he was on to bigger projects on the Valley Forge but he was quickly running into walls of what he couldn’t do as he wasn’t an officer. So he knew where his future was headed by the time it was coming up to his 16th Birthday and his Junior Year of Schooling.
Unfortunately, by Mid-2374 he was on a Federation Colony with his Uncle while his parents, now Lt. Cmdrs and once again back on the Valley Forge, were sent to fight in the Dominion War. He hoped every night that they would return and was counting the days they were gone. He didn’t much like the war but he understood why they needed to fight. He just wished his parents were on this colony, safe, instead of out on whatever mission Starfleet demanded.
Then… the worst news of his life came. In a battle, the Vally Forge was hit hard and the compartments where his parents were, were destroyed. The Officers sent to inform him reassured him that they were likely among the survivors or in an escape pod waiting to be rescued. They told him that they would visit him again when they found them…
They never came.
His schooling was no longer done out of the fact of his own ambition, but rather an act to show that he will serve the entity that his parents believed in so much that they were willing to give their life to it. He was going to ace his Senior Year and he would be getting into the Academy. By 2380, he would be graduating and carry on the duty that his folks died doing.
He, in fact, didn’t ace his Senior Year but he did manage to get into the Academy as an Operations Student with concentrations in Probability Mechanics and Statistics. His four years would be packed with studying. If quizzed, it was likely he wouldn’t be able to tell you what was off his known path on the campus.

Please write a brief answer to 3 of the following (a sentence or two for each is fine):
Your character's most painful experience
The loss of his parents no doubt. He was a not-quite-an-adult when he had the news delivered to him and after a while of praying for them to come home, it was like a gutshot.
Your character's best or favorite experience
The day he graduated from the Academy. It was the crowning achievement of everything he wanted for the past few years. He felt that this was the best way he could honor his folks and had the bonus of pursuing his passion.
Your character's most crucial experience
The day Will aced his final exam in Warp Field Dynamics. He had thought only days prior that he would fail that final yet he did nothing but study and test himself for three days straight to drill the information into his skull.
Who is your character's role model and why?
It is a tie between Will Riker and Data mainly because they are the best examples of things that Will strives to be: a First Officer, and a Top-notch Ops Officer
Please write a brief sample post from your character’s perspective:
[Starfleet Academy - 0430]
Will rocked back and forth as he waited to hear if he was one of the lucky ones to be assigned to the first rotation on the training cruise. The names were supposed to be called half an hour ago and they still weren’t called. He was beginning to think that this was another test to see about patience. He looked around at the other fresh faces when the sound of the Academy Commandant made him snap his attention.
“Ladies and Gentlemen, the following Cadets will be assigned to the USS Republic for your final assessment before graduation. The list will be read in alphabetical order: Aisly, Monica, Stellar Cart…”
It was happening, it was happening! In a matter of minutes, he would know if he was assigned to the Republic or if he would have to wait for the other trainers to open up. Come to think of it, he couldn’t think of any other trainer active right now…
“Waring, William Q. Waste Logistics. Is Cadet Waring here?” he heard faintly as he snapped back to reality. He was chosen! “Present! Oh, I mean present, sir!” he quickly added as the Commandant pointed to another officer who was standing to direct Will to the Transporter Room. It was really happening, he was an Officer… almost.
