Personal History
Early Life/Pre-Starfleet Career:
Born the only child a Betazoid mother and Romulan father, she was raised on their private science vessel. Life was lonely, as there were no other children on board, and the skeletal crew always ignored her - unless she was causing mischief. Her mother reserved a few hours a day to help her with her schooling, but otherwise most of her time was spent in the lab with her husband, pouring over experiments and writing reports. They tried to instill in her their same love for science, and while she found it all fascinating she did not have the patience for the study that preceded the experiments. In fact, she didn't have the patience for study at all, and each semester passed with barely keeping her marks in the "acceptable" range. Now music and martial arts, however, she loved and thrived in. The Betazoid chimes her mother gave her as a gift one year is still one of her most prized possession, and she plays it frequently in her down time. Her father taught her everything he knew about Romulan hand-to-hand tactics, and eventually installed a hologram instructor to continue teaching her different styles. This is also a pasttime that she has maintained throughout her life, and practices daily to keep herself in shape. Her father always told her that the Romulan Star Empire would be lucky to have her as a centurion... If only she wasn't so much like her mother.
About a year before she came of age, their vessel was attacked by pirates. Jovireh and her mother made it to an escape pod with the rest of the crew. All except her father, who was trying to salvage some of their experiments before escaping. They were rescued by a Starfleet vessel heading back to Earth. Jov and her mother took refuge on the human planet, trying to help each other through their loss and figure out what to do with their lives next. Her mother had grown weary of the space travel life, but Jov could not get used to solid ground beneath her feet. She kept going back to her father's words... While the Empire might not accept a half-Betazoid in their military, Starfleet would probably consider her an asset. And so, she enlisted.
Academy/Technical Academy (if Starfleet):
With a new purpose to her life, Jovireh threw herself into her studies like she never had before. She didn't make many friends, keeping her head down and trying to stay under the radar. She excelled rapidly, most of all in her combat skills. Linguistics was another area of ease for her, considering she joined the Academy already bilingual. Science, however, remained difficult for her, with an added soreness of the memories of her father's excitement as he showed her his experiments. But she continued to push herself, determined to be the best she could be.
Previous Assignments (if applicable):
She graduated from the Academy at 27 standard years. Due to her heritage, familiarity with Romulan culture, and fluent Rihan, she was first assigned to Starbase 173 near the Romulan Neutral Zone. That experience was never needed during her duration there. It didn't have the level of excitement she had been hoping for, but it was an adventure in its own right. The ever-rotating new and familiar faces kept the location interesting enough. She remained there for several years before getting transferred to the frontier.

She also has the pride of her father's people, and cannot bring herself to accept help even when she needs it.
Prejudices:
Jov thinks Klingons are brutish barbarians, and humans are too arrogant for their own good. However, she knew going into Starfleet that those were opinions she needed to keep to herself, as she would need to learn how to work with them regardless of how she felt.

A rapid series of thunks and bumps caught her attention as the cargo bay doors slid closed behind her. Crewman Velal paused, her breathing slowed as she just listened. There was a shuffle, and a scrape, and a small shadow swiftly disappeared behind one of the large containers. A small smile played across Jovireh's lips. She remembered what it was like to be young, when the cargo bay was a mountain range and Engineering was a jungle. Relaxing her posture, she glided across the room, the quiet whisper of her feet on the floor masked by the dull hum of the mechanics and computers throughout the station. As she stopped alongside the container in question, she knew her shadow along the wall in front of her gave away her position. She could almost feel the anticipation growing.
Dropping to her knees, she ducked around the corner of the storage container, her eyes locking on the two children that gasped and squealed and clamped their hands over their mouths. They stared at her, wide-eyed, clearly waiting for the reprimand while they tried futility to calm their nerves from the sudden fright. Instead, she gave them a devilish grin, holding a finger to her lips to indicate for them to be quiet. They nodded solemnly, confused now, and watched as she began to look around the room. She made an exaggeration of it, jumping up on the crates to look behind them, tilting her head backwards to check the ceiling. Then she shook her head with a big shrug. "Guess I just imagined it." She said loudly, to no one in particular, and walked out of the room, the stifled snickers and giggles fading behind her.
The cargo crates were sealed, and stacked in such a way the kids wouldn't get hurt if they climbed up and fell off one. She didn't see the harm in letting them have a little more fun, at least until the next patrol went through. Besides, they were a lot better off in the cargo bay than they were in Engineering.
