[ Stardate 06.12.2380, 1900 hours | Niva's Flat, Gallo, Celladore City ] [ Main thread ][ Niva ]After much urging and no little offense sassed between Niva and the Starfleet officer, she convinced him to come with him to somewhere safe, her little basement flat in Mobe Close just off Rajo St. It was a Ferengi sized apartment and she'd managed to get the human into a Ferengi-sized bed before he'd conked out. If she hadn't been as quick, he'd be on the floor under a Ferengi-sized blanket. Now, something potent stewed on a Ferengi-sized hob. Joshua Niles, for that was his name according to the ID card in his pocket, had yet to fully come to. It was time for the smelling salts. She held a strong-smelling vial near his little human nose and sang his name. "Joss-hoo-a Nill-ees... Joss-hoo-a Nill-ees... you're not dead yet Joss-hoo-a Nill-ees..."Joshua Niles

[ LT Joshua Niles - Niva's Flat, Gallo, Celladore City ]He could not just stay on the street. Niles knew this. Even after having expelled the offending potion from his system, he had a clear indication that he might not be long for the waking world. If anything, he could recognize the fog that was falling over him, not unlike that of the heavy painkillers he had been on after his accident back at the Academy, if that particular experience was getting mixed with getting very, very drunk. But without the pleasant experience of imbibing good quality alcohol first. He had no idea of the route they had taken; nor how far they'd gone. But, the last thing he knew before darkness overtook him was that he was laying fairly close to the floor, on a bed that was too short for him... And when he woke up, it was when a powerful smell invaded his nostrils and he started to come to. When he opened his eyes, listening to a sing-song voice calling out some version of his name, a pained groan escaped his throat when the light stabbed at his eyes; his mouth, pasty-feeling as it was, refused to shape words until he managed to work up some saliva, which actually brought up a rather foul taste. "Part of me wishes I was," he managed to croak. "Where am I? And how... how do you know my name?" Kaya Som

[ Niva ]Oh, thank whatever gods cared about an exile Ferengi! He was conscious and could speak and everything. Niva offered him water from a little mug. "Just water," she reassured him knowing very well she had an 0/1 track record of beverages with this guy. "I found an ident card in your pocket. You really are Starfleet. I can always guess. Although, that's most humans we get here, Starfleet looking to blow off steam," Niva said and went over to the stove. "I'm really sorry, Joss-hoo-ah. You can call me Niva. This really has never happened before. It has to be my new supplier."Joshua Niles

[ LT Joshua Niles - Niva's Flat, Gallo, Celladore City ]When a cup was presented to him, reflexively the Lieutenant reached for it even before knowing what it was. But as he reached out, his prosthetic left hand started spasming violently, and when he pulled that arm away as to use but his hand of flesh and blood, the one made of alloys and polymers connected with the bedframe with a thoroughly inorganic sound. What the hell was wrong with his arm now? The water, which he accepted gratefully, was cool and, well, water. No overly mineral taste, no carbonation, just good old clean water. And, it felt like the very nectar of the gods going down his tortured throat. Once he had drained the liquid and set down the mug, he looked at his host, while slipping his right thumb into a slit in the covering of his prosthetic, seeking out the switch that would initiate a reboot of the device. "Well, that was largely why I was here," he replied as he found the simple controls and cycled them. His left hand then went limp, and when he withdrew his thumb, all of his fingers went impossibly straight and steady before going through their full range of motion. First in isolation and with unnatural steadiness, then in concert, and then the wrist became involved while every permutation of movement was taking place entirely independent of his control... and then, he winced, hard. That pain through his artificial forearm, through his elbow and upper arm of flesh and blood was like a series of heated wires searing at his flesh from the inside. That was an old friend, but it felt... different. "What was in that drink?" That was a question he should have asked earlier, but given how his entire body was also swimming in a cocktail to help manage his chronic phantom and neuropathic pain and the interface between the prosthetic and his body, there well might have been a drug interaction... [ Niva ]Niva barely heard a word her strange guest said because his arm. She'd caught the unusual movement from the corner of her eye, let out a startled yelp, then spun fully around and bumped against the counter top. "Now, I did not do that!" she said with a hand on her chest to settle her breathing. She didn't have time to answer his question or come to terms with whatever was happening to her bad-lucked client because someone was fiddling with her front door. "No!" she barked, suddenly perturbed. She disappeared down the narrow hallway and could be heard arguing with nobody. "This is not a good time! ... That's not my problem! ... I have my own problems. ... Hey!"Then who should come strolling into the main room but a short Bolian with short black hair who couldn't have been more than twelve- or thirteen-years-old. Niva followed behind him, exasperated and resigned to the second house-guest. "Mott Moz, Joss-hoo-a. Joss-hoo-a, Mott."[ Mott ]Mott plopped down on the chair, munching loudly on a bag of crunchy somethings. "Hi. Are you sick or something?"

[ LT Joshua Niles - Niva's Flat, Gallo, Celladore City ]Now, even the process of his prosthetic's self-diagnosis routine was a little unsettling even to him, what with the movement being done in such perfect isolation, and in without any input from his nervous system, and no feedback. Now, he did not have a tricorder or PADD to keep track of the process, but if there was a problem, it would have been obvious... However, he had been prepared for the look and feel of the process, but his less than thrilled host, on the other hand, was not and she backed away in horror. "This is just a self-test, make sure my prosthetic is all right; if there's a neurotransmitter issue, it'll also reset the interface with my nervous system."However, she did not stay long enough to hear all Joshua had to say, and while she was still talking in the hallway, he regained control of his synthetic limb and he started going through the part of the self-test he actually had to perform himself and checking for sensitivity. He was nearly done when a young Bolian boy entered and was introduced as Mott Moz... and he asked a very pointed question. And, despite his circumstances, Joshua managed a smile, ignoring the way the Ferengi was butchering his name. "Or something. Niva here offered me a drink, and I think something in that drink isn't playing nice with the medications I'm on. Now if I only could know if anything in there would react with Neuropozyne or Morphenolog, it would answer a lot of questions..." Kaya Som

[ Mott, Niva | Niva's house, Gallo ]Niva knew better than to try and shoo Mott away now that he was here. Besides, it was better than him getting picked up for scamming tourists. Again. She was unaware, of course, that's exactly where he'd been all day after getting caught picking a pocket. He'd been roundly chastised by the market security then dropped at his aunt's house which from whence he'd snuck out again. Niva went back to the stove and began finishing up the soup. If she was going to kidnap a Starfleet officer, she figured she ought to feed him. When the poor sick fellow explained his predicament Mott wrinkled his nose and giggled brashly at Niva. "Ha ha! I told you! I'm bangers at chemistry and I told her that juice was off" Mott bragged and plopped down on the bed next to Josh, resisting the urge to try and touch his arm by digging in his satchel. "Oh shut it, you did not," Niva snapped and rolled her eyes. Someone needed to supervise this child. "I did, actually. I can help you if you want, though, for cheap. Just seventy credits, that's all," he said to Joshua hopefully. He pulled out an older model medical tricorder. "See? Better hurry in case you dieeee..."Niva sang her own song. "He was never going to dieeeee..."Joshua Niles

[Dostallo to Main Street - Gallo] Arranging transport from the Two Suns Market to the heart of Gallo had been easy enough, but now the hard part was about to begin. For a moment, Lea took a deep breath allowing her mind to focus and to get her bearings. Once she reached some level of calm, the Betazoid then took off away from the main hustle and bustle. Finding a quiet spot, Lea then withdrew her comm device, knowing from the minute she left her new friends, that this could be a way of making contact with whoever was here. It might not work but she was determined to give it a shot as she activated it. " This is Lea Mazal, I got word that someone might be in trouble. If anyone from Front Ear is here, please respond".

[ LT Joshua Niles - Niva's Flat, Gallo, Celladore City ]Whatever was on the stove (and it had been a LONG time since one Joshua Niles had seen one of those first-hand!) was smelling good all right, but knowing it was a Ferengi cooking, he had the very clear notion that he really didn't want to know what was in that pot. Not if he wanted to keep himself from bringing up his stomach lining. The dexterity and sensitivity tests he was doing on his prosthetic, though, were less than satisfactory for him. The hardware was functioning perfectly, that he'd seen with his own eyes. But there was something a little off in the control input. And the pain... if the chronic phantom and neuropathic pain he was suffering from had not been such constant companions since he'd woken up from stasis and surgery after that flight training accident, he knew he'd be barely able to stand it. Hell, it had taken weeks to get the dosages right to keep the pain from being right agony, and to manage the connection between his biological nervous system and the prosthetic's interface... And whatever had been in that drink had upset the careful balance of his own neurotransmitters, and the pain management and neurological meds that kept him functioning... That was... unpleasant. When the child offered him a medical tricorder that looked like it was at least fifteen years old for what was effectively an extortionate sum lest he die, he just grinned. "Kid, I don't think I'm going to die. Well, at least not from that, though it certainly feels like it." While he was speaking lightly enough, it would be clear that Joshua was in pain. But, he could manage it... somewhat. "But what I would need is to get to the clinic at the Federation consulate to get whatever was in that drink neutralized, or at least processed out of my system a little faster. Tell you what..."He was about to offer the child a sum to guide him there, when his commbadge, tucked in his jacket's inner pocket, chirped and he recognized the voice, the bartender from the station. And if she was calling about someone being in trouble... He fished the device from his pocket and pressed its face. "Miss Mazal, this is Lieutenant Niles. Where are you? I can come to you."He was on leave. He was in pain. He ought to get to a doctor sooner rather than later if only to alleviate his symptoms and make sure his hand would work the way he wanted it to... but someone needed his help. "Kid, I'll take that tricorder after all." It was not a weapon, of course. But a tricorder was a tricorder, and too damn useful not to have one in a crunch. Kaya Som Leanna Mazal

[ Mott, Niva | Niva's house, Gallo ]"Aw, yiss!" Mott said, pumping his fist in victory. He stood up and held out both an empty hand and the tricorder, ready to make the trade. "Seventy credits," he repeated. Mott was well pleased with himself, but Niva felt horrible. "Ny-els..." she muttered under her breath and snapped her fingers. Human names, never sounded like they were spelled. But that was the least of her sins with this beset-upon, sparkling Starfleet lieutenant. There was something wrong with her inventory, he'd lost his lunch, his prosthetic arm was now damaged, her bed was too short, Mott was scamming/harassing him, and now he was leaving! Niva groaned and scratched her head. "I can't send you off with nothing," Niva said and began to ladle a good amount of the soup into a to-go container. "And if you could see to it not to mention this to anyone, give me time to sort it out, I'd be real thankful."Joshua Niles

[Guilty Pleasures Cafe - Gallo] Having found a place to sit whilst she waited to see if anyone responded to her and to also not arouse any suspicion. Leanna was now situated outside in a quiet corner with a colourful lemonade, despite her insistence that she didn't want anything. At least it was something as she certainly wasn't in the mood for alcohol and should keep the server from constantly coming over. Trying not to fidget too much, there was definitely relief when Lieutenant Niles responded and asked where she was so he could come to her. " I'm sat outside the Guilty Pleasures Cafe, it's situated just off the main street in Gallo, you'll be able to see me".
