Personal History
Early Life/Pre-Starfleet Career:
Havik (Havik i-Ra'tleihfi tr’Kota) was born the 1st son of a Romulan admiral, named Xoron, on the planet of Romulus in the year of 2353 AD. From the day he was born, Havik was closely monitored by the Romulan state for any signs of birth defects, as any other child would. After the age of five, Havik underwent the schooling, cultural indoctrination, and physical training process all Romulans went through for approximately twenty years. While growing up, Havik was arrogant and braggadocios individual because of his influential family name, which provided with an excessive amount of validation. He learned how to get what he wanted by using his name, and learned how to manipulate people with great effect. During this time, Havik learned to keep his friends close, and his enemies closer. Havik learned to keep multiple faces up at a time; one for the public, one for his friends, one for his family, and one for himself. From this, Havik also learned paranoia; between the intrusive Romulan state, the exorbitant expectations of his socially powerfully parents, and the peer pressure of his friends, Havik always slept with one eye open, always thinking someone, somewhere, was out to get him. This also included his immediate family, such as his parents or siblings.
However, the one person Havik could trust was his best friend, Jarron, and having someone to trust in Romulan society was an anomaly, to say the least. To Havik, this friendship was sacred, where the machinations stopped. Havik’s father, Xoron, knew of this friendship, and saw their closeness as a weakness, and Xoron could not afford his son to appear weak and potentially damage his social status. At the age of twenty, when it came time for Havik to prove himself worthy of citizenship in a battle to the death, Xoron preceded over the trial, and pitted him against his best friend, Jarron. Havik was then forced to reluctantly murder his best friend, as per the demand of his father. It was at this point Havik began to have some oppositions to the Star Empire; his father had just forced him to kill his only friend in an empire that knew only secrecy and paranoia.
Moreover, Havik’s social status as the son of an admiral practically demanded for him to be fast-tracked to become an officer in the Romulan Star Navy. At the age of 21, Havik took his first command as an antecenturion aboard a Romulan warbird, and was charged with the responsibility of maintaining part of the weapon systems aboard the vessel. Havik’s command took place during the Dominion War in 2374 through 2375, later reaching the rank of sublieutenant within a year. However, After a sizable Jem’Hadar raiding party boarded his warbird, Havik's captain issued to Final Honor by self-destructing the ship to deny the enemy intelligence and prisoners. In a split second decision, Havik decided to escape from the vessel in an escape pod with a cloaking field, disobeying a direct order from a superior officer.
After the ship self-destructed, Havik sat in the nothingness of space for approximately a week, speculating greatly within himself as to why he just took off and ran. Havik felt that he was a coward and a weakling for deserting his post, because Havik knew the ideal Romulan would've fulfilled his duties till the end. After a long period of introspection, Havik realized that he no longer idolized the Romulan Empire like he did as a child. An upbringing of paranoia and betrayal had seasoned his soul to the true nature of the Empire, and that he wasn't willing to die for something so corrupt, so dishonorable. He realized that the turning point for this was being forced to kill Jarron, an act he had been coerced into by his own father; he could never forgive the Empire, his father, nor himself, for that matter. There were at least two positives to this, however: the first was that he was at least alive; the second was that the Romulans didn't know that. All his family would know was that their son died serving the Romulan Star Empire against a foreign invader. Maybe that was for the best, a noble death. But, what would he do next? Where would he go? He needed a new purpose. But, before he could find the answer, the answer found him, as he was beamed aboard a USS Starfleet vessel that picked up his distress beacon.
After Havik told them his story, as one would expect, Havik underwent an extensive interrogation process as mandated by Starfleet, which partly involved his mind being read by a betazoid. After Havik’s story checked out, Havik was informed that he would be dropped off at the nearest Federation starbase to apply for refugee status, rather than sending him back to the Romulans to face possible persecution. However, Havik was mostly without purpose now, and a Romulan without purpose was like a Vulcan without logic. Havik inquired with the Captain, Anton Voight, if there was any way he could repay the Federation for taking him in. Voight replied that he might be willing to put in a letter of recommendation for Starfleet Academy for Havik if he gave Starfleet Intelligence what sociological, tactical, or strategic information he knew on the Romulans, because Federation officers were dying in droves from the Dominion War. As such, Havik agreed the terms.
Academy/Technical Academy (if Starfleet):
Before Havik knew it, he was in San Francisco on Earth, sitting outside the Starfleet Academy, after finishing the preparatory course. Havik knew he probably only had one chance at getting in; after finishing all the exams, Havik was lucky enough to pass on his first attempt, which was seemingly miraculous considering he was an outsider to the Federation. Havik was surprised at how difficult the tests were. After this point, Havik began to develop an appreciation and respect for the Federation in the same vein a Romulan would for his own Star Empire, as if the Federation were the true caretakers of the galaxy.
Havik dual majored in Command & Control and Probability Mechanics, with the intent of becoming a tactical officer, as he found it cathartic to press the button on a photon torpedo that would destroy an enemy. He also learned a fair number of Earthen trades and hobbies while attending Starfleet Academy. Havik, in particular, enjoyed Tri-Dimensional Chess and Strategema because of the strategy that was involved; he even became the president of the tri-dimensional chess club at the Academy at one point, as well. Havik also enjoyed powerlifting, boxing, and wrestling, as they complimented his species’ natural strength and proved to be a good outlet for his Romulan emotions. However, Havik was met with a lot of apprehension and xenophobia while attending Starfleet Academy, because he was a Romulan. Many of his fellow classmates accused him of being a Romulan spy, but the accusations carried no weight without substantial evidence. After four years, Havik graduated from the academy with honors in both of his majors.
Previous Assignments (if applicable):
After graduating Starfleet Academy, Havik was assigned aboard the USS Masterpiece as a tactical officer; however, the presence of a Romulan unsettled many of the members aboard the ship, and in a year later, Havik was reassigned off the ship to the frontier edge of Federation space, where he would be out of sight, and out of mind.

Personality
Havik possesses many characteristics that’ve been observed in Romulans. On the surface, Havik exhibits a very reserved and professional demeanor that is predominantly focused on performing his work as punctually as possible. It's ironic that someone would probably consider him to be cold or aloof, because beneath the surface, Havik's mind and body rage with a primal, intrinsic Vulcanoid passion and emotional intensity. Moreover, Havik channels these intense emotions into a fervent resolve towards completing his work, as no other avenue would be more appropriate, besides extracurricular athletic activities. With these emotions, Havik can sometimes behave as if he were bipolar, particularly around close confidants - although, he's had very few of these in recent years. Havik's lack of an inner circle largely stems from his paranoia. Although he's been out of the Romulan Star Empire for a number of years, old habits die hard, and Havik still sees shadows everywhere he goes.
Havik can be quite arrogant, as well. When he believes he is right, Havik knows he's right, and there's not a lot that can be done to change his mind besides direct interference. In addition to his negative traits, Havik can be highly manipulative; although, he hasn't been like this in recent years since joining the Federation. This is because he's wanted to turn a new leaf after enduring the rampant scheming and paranoia within the Romulan Empire. Both of these traits stem from the overabundant levels of validation Havik received as a child, since his father was a Romulan Admiral and the head of considerably powerful Romulan house. Havik isn't without his code of honor, however; Havik follows the Romulan concept of honor, Mnhei'sahe, quite extensively, which essentially entails performing actions for the good of one's self or honor.

Please write a brief answer to 3 of the following (a sentence or two for each is fine):
Your character's most painful experience
Havik’s most painful experience, emotionally, was being forced to kill his best friend for citizenship within the Romulan Star Empire. He suffered minor wounds from the encounter, but the emotional pain he suffered from doing so would wound him for years to come.
Your character's best or favorite experience
Havik’s most pleasant experience was his time spent at Starfleet Academy. At Starfleet, he learned how to enjoy himself through the various extracurricular activities there, rather than live in obedient dedication and paranoia to the Romulan state.
Your character's most crucial experience
Havik’s most crucial experience was him deciding not to kill himself when his commanding officer ordered him to. This, in turn, resulted in him being brought into the Federation.
Who is your character's role model and why?
Growing up, Havik’s role model was probably his father; he embodied everything he wanted to be. As an admiral in Romulan society, he was both powerful and respected, even if he didn't trust him. However, since he deserted the Romulans, Havik’s only role model has been himself.
Please write a brief sample post from your character’s perspective:
Havik blinked his eyes awake from his slumber; it would be another day spent waiting for his new assignment. He inhaled and exhaled calmly as he laid in his bed with his eyes open, staring up at the ceiling with an idle sense of remorse. His feelings of futile wonder stemmed from the fact he had just been politely kicked off a ship because of his species, in a Federation that celebrated itself for all its liberal, utopian ideals.
“How ironic.”, Havik muttered to himself, still laying down in his bed. He gave up his Star Empire for this? He was practically royalty! And now he was treated as some kind of double agent, despite his honest intentions? His mind toyed with the idea of resigning from Starfleet while he was still ahead; but, what would it all have been for? To apply himself for so many years through the academy, only to be shoved out of his position with his tail between his legs? No, Havik i-Ra'tleihfi tr’Kota was no weakling!
With gritted teeth, Havik began to feel an overwhelming sense of anguish at the prospect of his own potential weakness or foolishness. Damned were these accursed mental sensations. He could’ve died in that damn escape pod, blown his brains out with a phaser, and none of this would’ve happened. Havik’s bout of frustration was interrupted by the ring of his communicator on one of his dressers. After glancing over, Havik sighed, and arose from his bed to catch the call. After pressing the communicator, Havik replied formally and rather stoically for the mental war that was raging in his mind, “Ensign Havik, reporting.”
“Ensign Havik,”, began the voice on the other end, “We’ve received word of your new assignment; you’ve been assigned to the Front Ear station in the Beta Quadrant, in the orbit of Kerelia. Gather your belongings, and proceed to the shuttle bay area for transport.”
“Acknowledged. Havik, out.”
Front Ear Station? What kind of name was that? Was this some kind of childish prank? He sighed. Perhaps he would find out later, as he began to pack his things for his supposed journey.
