[Ens. Syl O'Connell - Caldonia - Universe Ballroom]A soft blush crossed her cheeks as the senior made a comment about fitness requirements. Of course they did, and of course she met them, she wasn't even out of breath after catching up. "I'm sorry ma- Your Honor," she corrected herself, before none other than Captain Eastman joined them. Syl stood a little straighter, turning an appreciative smile to the other woman. This was her chance... and would likely be her only chance to get a feel for the Captain's thoughts and motivations regarding this mission. Something substantial to give the Admiral when they got back. And of course, her mind suddenly went blank. The two women sat, and Syl hesitated for a moment before doing the same. If the Caldonians got upset about her being at the wrong table, well... It wouldn't be too bad with the Captain there, right? [Capt. Judith Eastman(-Williams) & The Hon. Judge Estelle Roth - Universe Ballroom]Estelle grabbed another of the blue breadsticks. She'd taken a liking to them, and resolved to ask their hosts for the recipe - not for herself to cook, but for her assistant, or her granddaughter. Judy, a chef's wife, knew better than to fill up on breadsticks, and so did not partake. After setting her heavy purse on the floor, she turned to Ensign O'Connell. "What caste did they put you in?" she asked.

[Ens. Syl O'Connell - Caldonia - Universe Ballroom]Syl also did not eat, having noticed a slightly different selection of food on the various tables. She did not want to add to the potential ire by not only sitting where she wasn't supposed to, but also eating what she wasn't supposed to. The Captain addressed her once more, and Syl felt herself stumbling over the answer. "Academics, ma'am. Captain. Sir. Inferior Academics." You're blowing it, she reminded herself, and she stopped talking to take a deep breath. "I was on my way to that table when Your Honor" she nodded politely at the judge "engaged me in conversation." It was the simplest way to explain that she would rather risk offending the Caldonians than Estelle.

[NPC - Yatin - Universe Ballroom]Yatin of course knew what he was doing, and wasn't expecting to deal with all their doubt right away. "You're both right. The rising tide lifts all boats, to use a human saying," he said. "By our togetherness, we thrive."The medal, conveniently, brought them to another issue. "The medal is for his contribution to stopping the terrorist Jeren on your station. It brings great shame to us all, Caldonians and Kurjarians, that small bands of extremists like Jeren's terrorize innocents."This moral, morally superior, stance was a very comfortable one for Yatin and his colleagues. Terrorism was, as most species held, bad. [Lt Shavan Th’zhaar & T’Laara - Universe Ballroom, Caldonia Shavan raised an eyebrow in his best impression of a Vulcan when the Caldonian seemed to deliberately miss the sarcasm in his question. Yatin had a way with words, all right. He glanced at Charlie, determined to not be entirely dismissed, even as the subject changed to Jeren's attack on Front Ear. “Yes, I imagine that is a shame.”They started walking towards the Academics table as the conversation continued. Neither Shavan nor T’Laara had been on the station the day of the so-called terrorist attack. It had happened about a month before T’Laara arrived on Front Ear, and what she had heard about it was probably more rumor than fact. So in this matter she did not comment, but observed the conversation closely. However, she looked around as another voice spoke, and T’Laara found herself facing another Vulcan. “This man was just telling us about how well they believe their society functions, and how important and mutually beneficial it is to those in different roles.”[ Ensign Neme, Medical (Regular Academic) (bio) | Heading towards the Academics table ][...] "As you say. My thanks." Neme nodded in thanks and made their way in the direction Dato had indicated, towards where other Academics had gathered. The table was decked out in hors d'oeuvre no doubt exemplary of Caldonian faire. There was a stack of small cakes composed of tiny layers. It tasted of savory nuts and tart fruits. "Curious that members of the lower castes have been included in this affair," Neme observed to another 'Academic'. "I wonder at its purpose since they are held in such low regard." [Charlie Fox - Universe Ballroom, Knowledge Building, Caldonia]"Not everyone here has a boat, Yatin," Charlie replied, beginning to tire of platitudes. She shifted her stance a little as her eyes flickered from Josh and the quickly dismissed Caldonian trying to present him with a medal, to Shavan when he responded with what sounded like snark to her ears. Had the topic been any other, she probably would have smirked. As it was, her anger within was a tide of its own, and the wave was building. "It is a shame," she agreed, though her demeanor was not agreeable. There was something wholly disturbing about watching a member of Starfleet receive a medal from a slaver for shooting a slave. They were joined by another Academic, one who seemed unafraid to ask an interesting question. Charlie arched her brow while she glanced around for a drink - some sort of alcohol to take the edge off this charade - and waited to see how Yatin would field this one.

Her eyebrow crept slowly up as Hetav praised the Caldonian caste system to the sky. Saya wisely kept her lips closed. It was going to take all of her skills to maintain composure if all those of the caste she'd been assigned did the same. She was out of practice. When he asked about the Bajoran castes, Saya had to actually think about it. She hadn't learned about it until she'd joined Starfleet, her father having never spoken of it when she was a child. As such, she actually knew very little, not having thought it worth her time to investigate further. ' Bajoran castes, called d'jarras, were based upon one's family and determined one's occupation. When Cardassia occupied Bajor, the d'jarras were set aside in unity against our oppressors. Once Bajor was free, we did not return to the d'jarras. Our society had changed too dramatically.' Saya cut herself off abruptly, realizing that she was very close to outright criticism of caste systems. She'd delivered the short explanation in her best Vulcan monotone, but she couldn't keep it up. [Universe Ballroom – Knowledge Building – Caldonia] [...] [Skilled Worker Table] The doctor approached the skilled worker's table, and as expected, it was a little bit more rustic than his academics counterpart. According to his research, he was not surprised that individuals of his class were given the bare minimum to survive. He wondered about their medical infrastructure and their larger portion or how they took care of their need. He observed the two individuals. One of them he recognized from his research of medical files. "Good Evening, Master Chief Saya. Pleasure Meeting you. I'm Dr. Hunt, the new Medical Doctor. But Johnathan it's fine" said Hunt. He gave her a diplomatic nod. He turned his attention to the other individual whom he did not recognize. " Pleasure meeting you, I'm Doctor Hunt and whom do I have the honor of addressing?" Hunt said has he extended his hand for a formal greeting. He observed the location of the table, and it was near the back away from the Academic. Almost as if they were doing a favor by letting low-class individuals such as himself in. Some Doctors would have found the situation to be infuriating, especially some of his Medical School classmates. Hunt, on the other hand, was happy to be in the back. He was there as merely support in case he is needed. Looking at the room, the only time he would be needed is if someone had a heart attack and choke on their food. [Hetav, Ex-Chief of Clan Relar - Universe Ballroom, Skilled Worker Table]Hetav very gallantly pulled out a seat for the comfort and convenience of his charge. He'd learned that from Yatin, who had impeccable manners as well as fine tastes. He listened carefully as he moved to his own seat, eating up all of Ozu Saya's words as though they were all delicious morsels. "In what ways had it changed?" He asked once he'd sat, and found himself leaning with his forearms on the table, waiting for more from the chief engineer. "For how long was your Bajor oppressed?"The former chief was afraid that the arrival of this presumptuous newcomer would steal all of the attention away. But he was under orders to be charming and helpful, so he supposed that is what he must do. "Greetings, fellow Skilled Worker. It is always useful to have a hunter within any party!"The Kurjarian chuckled; a jolly sound. He had no idea what honorifics were, and if he did, he wouldn't have been allowed to use them in reference to anyone within this caste. "Regale us with the tales of ferocious beasts of your world, and of your many conquests in your endeavours to feed your tribe!"

[ Ensign Neme, Medical (Regular Academic) (bio) | Heading towards the Academics table ]Truly, Vulcans were known throughout the galaxy. If the Caldonians could be convinced to develop their society beyond the juvenile caste system, they too could advance even further than their current superficial advances. "As you say. My thanks." Neme nodded in thanks and made their way in the direction Dato had indicated, towards where other Academics had gathered. Judge Estelle Roth - Universe Ballroom]There they went, with more of what they certainly thought were curveballs. Humanity's innate inquisitiveness had seemingly infected all of Starfleet, which Yatin thought was commendable, but just not right now. "In our society, every member, no matter their caste, is important. Their achievements are recognized, and their needs are tended to. That is why we brought members of the lower castes here, and why we gave your Lieutenant Niles a medal. They don't contribute to the pursuit of knowledge, which is our goal as a society, but they are important nonetheless."Yatin placed both hands on an ornate chair and looked again at the assorted Federationers. Judge Roth and Captain Eastman were off to the side, but he still felt he should make himself loud enough to be heard. "To your point, Ms. Fox, those people who don't share in our prosperity, the ones who 'don't have a boat,' as you said, the so-called Free Tribesmen, are the ones who choose to jump ship, and take the rest of us into the ocean with us."Estelle was not amused, and though she knew better than to call bullshit, she wasn't going to waste the whole evening with - as her favorite granddaughter had just put it - platitudes. "Let's start eating, and then we can tawk about the caste system, because candidates for Federation membership can't have castes," she called out, with a loudness and accent dripping of New York City. "Let's," Yatin agreed, sitting down on the chair he'd been holding. "I lived, for some of the best years of my life, in San Francisco," he recalled, to everyone and no one.

[Universe Ballroom – Knowledge Building – Caldonia] Hunt nodded as he heard his assignment as a skilled worker and merely nodded and responded, “Thank you.” He began walking away and thought of the political ramifications of his assignment. As random as it might be for them, the assignment indicates for him the priority of the civilization. These priorities would also dictate their technology levels and priority. It was the basic political theory. They don’t consider Medicine as academic instead of skill would inform him that their medical technology might not be as advanced in other areas. “ Interesting,” He spoke to himself as he continued to walk. The d'jarras were set aside, along with their peacefulness, so that all Bajorans could take up arms in resistance.' She said this very blandly. Just the facts, ma'am. When the Human male joined the table, Saya was grateful he'd identified himself. She didn't recognize him, and since they were out of uniform, there were no useful rank identifiers. Saya wasn't surprised when people remembered her since her dual Bajoran-Vulcan heritage was unusual. ' Greetings, Doctor. I am pleased to meet you.' {Quoted Posts} [ Lt Joshua Niles Walkway -> Universe Ballroom, Caldonia ] Well, that was advice Niles had not expected, not only to relax but to also step away from protocol. That was the last thing he could have expected the Captain to say, but if she said it, well, it was worth taking under serious advisement at the bare minimum. However, he had clear instructions to not start colouring too far outside the lines. And with that order to go and mingle, she walked away and left the Lieutenant with almost more questions than he had before... and no real clue what he should be doing. But, mingle he would, and his meandering brought him towards Commander Harmon. Now, the Intelligence Officer wasn't his favourite person in the world, and he had a clear impression that Harmon was amazed the Tactical Officer could put his boots on the right feet on a daily basis. However, as of right now, he needed to mingle, and if he could stay away from other members of the soldier caste for as long as possible, he certainly would. And, the man he was conversing with was wearing onrnaments not unlike those that had been worn by Jeren... If he could make contact there, then maybe, just maybe, he might have a chance to shake off that 'hero' business. "Sir, and, Clan Chief, I presume?" he said by way of introduction along with a slight inclination of his head, including for the other Caldonian who was present, unsure of his status. [LCDR Matthew Harmon & Chief Baram - Universal Ballroom] After Harmon's sarcastic line the Caldonian who approached seemed to be a little hurt. Not that Harmon cared in the slightest, he clearly had gotten one of the better sides of the disgusting caste system. Then, he spoke, or rather whispered anxiously. He was claiming to be a 'dissident'. It was interesting indeed. Harmon had struggled to find ways to recruit spies and informants on Caldonia without arousing suspicion, and if this was true this man could be his way in. However, there was of course an equally likely chance that he was an agent provocateur or other ill motived actor. Generally, Harmon would have done extensive due diligence before proceeding, however this was no ordinary situation. It occurred to him that even if he was some bad faith actor trying to damage these negotiations, Harmon simply did not care. He would be perfectly content to let them implode. His career would quite possibly suffer further, or end, but that was a problem for later. After all, one had to take a stand at some point. Harmon felt that tacit support for war crimes was a reasonable line in the sand to draw. As Harmon contemplated how to respond, Baram spoke. "Be careful. There are ears and eyes everywhere," he hushed, his eyes subtly darting around the room to see if anyone appeared to be paying attention to them. They were then approached by Lieutenant Niles. Baram had not met the man, however he knew who he was. "I am," he said with a standoffish tone, "Thanks to your actions, I believe," he said, his tone making it impossible to tell if he had a positive or negative view of Niles' actions against Jeren that had led to Baram succeeding him. "Our Caldonian host here, I didn't catch his name, was suggesting that a group of us take leave and release the shrews," Harmon told Niles. He had decided he would trust, or at least go along with the Caldonian. He would need to bring a team along. Charlie was a natural choice, it wouldn't feel right abandoning her after she helped convince him to join her crusade. Kova had a suitable respect for rules, regulations, and orders, and as much as he disliked her personally, she was confident. Niles on the other hand, he wasn't so sure about. He could be useful, but he was also uptight and stubborn, and there would be enough of that on Harmon's hypothetically A-Team. He also shot Jeren, so there was that elephant in the room. "Not sure if we should bring you along. Wouldn't want any more Kurjarian's getting shot," he prodded, hoping to elicit some sort of reaction that could help him make a decision. "I'm not sure the skirt will suit the terrain though," he teased, his tone appearing sincere, despite him knowing full well it was a kilt. "Your legs look very nice today though, if I may be so bold." As terrible as this mission and this situation was, Harmon recognised you had to take the opportunities, to tease that is, where they arose. [NPC - Ad-Ass Xoteak - Universe Ballroom]As Yatin's assistant[fn]OOC: Yatin's Mabel, if you will.[/fn], Xoteak knew he wasn't going to be met with open arms. It still hurt. "Of course I'll be in danger. I'd be tried for treason here, which is why I'd like to live with the free tribesmen, or get asylum in the Federation," he answered the Andorian first. He ignored Joshua Niles (both his track record and his magnificent legs) for now and addressed the others with a revelation to reinforce his credibility. "I was the one that leaked the Kaa torture memos. I am Xoteak, codename Serlat[fn]An ancient Kurjarian word, referring to an extended speech meant to delay action, much like, in our era, the filibuster[/fn]," he whispered. The Kaa torture memos were a series of secret documents outlining particularly vicious torture techniques, and the best way to spin them to the general public so that no one would know. [ Kova Sh'qaleq - Universe Ballroom, Caldonia] And there it was. What Xoteak really wanted. He had tossed out the notion of living with the free tribesmen, but Kova would be damned if that was what he was really after. It was certainly the latter: asylum in the Federation. Kova's eyes casually moved towards Harmon, certain he had picked up on that tidbit. If Xoteak wanted to defect to the tribesmen, what had stopped him thus far? No, he could easily be hunted down there. But there was no way Caldonia would pick a fight with the Federation. Baram then quickly warmed them all to be careful about speaking, given that there were eyes and ears all around them. Kova's antennae flexed as she sense someone approaching. It was Lieutenant Niles. Either the tactical officer completely missed the bluest person in the room are had decided to snub her. Why, however, Kova wasn't sure. The Andorian's eyes narrowed slightly, as her arms crossed in front of her chest. The Trill should have slugged him months ago, but perhaps Kova could remedy that now. What Charlie saw in his company, Kova would never know. Harmon seemed to be weighing exactly what to tell Niles, as he mentioned that Xoteak was suggesting that they leave to release the shrew. He even seemed to tease Niles about his choice of attire. Kova deduced as much when he stated that his legs looked nice. The Andorian appraised his stalks, and found his knees a tad too knobbly for her taste. "His dress may get dirty," Kova remarked. Perhaps the tactical officer would notice her now. The rather juvenile exchange was quelled as Xoteak attempted to recapture their attention with the seriousness of the matter at hand. Clearly, he thought it was okay to include the assassin of Jeren into his little plan. Still, the mention of the Kaa torture memos did capture her attention. Some of those techniques rivaled the sadistic nature of the Obsidian Order and the Tal Shiar. The call at this point was clearly Harmon's. Of course, the Andorian wasn't so sure he could secure asylum on his own. More than likely, it was Eastman's call. Although, she wouldn't put it past Harmon to ask for forgiveness in lieu of permission.

[Universe Ballroom, Skilled Worker Table] Hunt remained seated at the table as he nodded at the introduction of Chief Ozu. He was glad that he nailed at least one person in the team. He observed the Kurjarian as he talked. Hunt picked up a glass of water and took a small sip as he was feeling a little thirsty at the moment. As he listed to the individual across the table and asked him about his hunting prowess. Jonathan was in mid drinking where he heard the comment. At the worse possible moment, he stopped and almost choked himself on the water. His body reacted with some cough and spilling a little bit of water on the table. He continued his coughing and raised his hand to give a thumbs up to indicate he was ok. “ *cough* *cough* Don’t worry, I’m alright. It just went down the wrong pipe.” Hunt said as he tried to regain his composure. He cleared his throat as he was still confused about why he believed he was a hunter. After all, he was a Doctor, not a hunter, and he exactly did not have any hunting skills. He barely knew how to fish. “ Ummm….my apologies for that, Sir, Chief Saya,” The mand said as he appeared to be a little flustered. As he composed he continue a little nervous and uncertain what he was doing. “ My apologies…I think I might have given the wrong impression of my skill work, fellow skilled worker.”. He remained silent as he searches for words on how to correct someone. “ Yeah…Ummm, I don’t know how this happened but I have given the wrong impression of my skills. I am much more boring than that. I am not a Hunter nor I have any stories of me bringing food to my village. Any mention of those would be a work of fiction. I come from a planet called Earth. And we have plenty of animals there. I am a physician, umm a healer so to speak.” He finished as he hoped he bounced back from that horrible start. “ So, what’s your skill, fellow Skilled Worker?” He inquired at their acquittance. He had plenty of questions about their feelings and their society but for the moment he wanted to be polite and leave politics out of their table. He turned to the Chief and then inquired “ So you are from Bajor, Chief Saya. I would be very interested to hear you talk more about it. I have read a little bit about it but sadly I have not talked in depth from people in that region” He inquired as he was interested to learn more of the universe around them. He also wanted to change the topic from his skills or lack thereof to something more interesting on the table. Tag Charlie Fox Ozu Saya

[ MCPO Ozu Saya - Universe Ballroom] Saya blinked but didn't fuss as Hetav pulled a seat out for her. She could accept the gesture as the courtesy she assumed he intended. She sat and folded her hands as Hetav took his own seat. ' Bajor was occupied by Cardassia for approximately fifty years. I am pleased to meet you.' Saya offered the man a polite nod and left it to him to explain his name when Hetav misunderstood it. In fact, she had to suppress a tiny smile. It was difficult not to be drawn in by the Kurjarian's friendliness. [Universe Ballroom, Skilled Worker Table] Hunt remained seated at the table as he nodded at the introduction of Chief Ozu. [Hetav, Ex-Chief of Clan Relar - Universe Ballroom, Skilled Worker Table]Hetav would have readily allowed the chief engineer to continue speaking about her planet, and this occupation, and how they abandoned their castes to take up arms against these oppresors, but he supposed he had to give the other skilled workers attention, too. Even if they were a little... odd. His jolly smile faded very gradually, comically even, as the not-hunter talked, and talked, and Hetav wasn't at all sure what it was he was saying. Perhaps there was something wrong with his brain, in the same way as there was something wrong with his cousin Kadan's brain. The fact that the man had problems with a simple task as drinking some water suggested that Hetav was correct. "A healer, I see..." He spoke slowly, in case the male might have issue understanding, and then he gave him a big, toothy smile in encouragement. "Yes, yes, we have those too. Good job!" Normally the healers were part of the Academic castes - perhaps this one wasn't very good at it. "I am Hetav, former Chief of Clan Relar. I am here as an example of how Caldonian and Kurjarian work together to achieve so much. And to answer any questions you have." He kept his goofy smile glued on for the benefit of the not-hunter, but he directed all of the complicated explanation toward the chief engineer, who he liked very much.

Tags: Jonathan Hunt and Ozu Saya [ MCPO Ozu Saya - Universe Ballroom] The urge to laugh at this ridiculous conversation was becoming stronger. Saya had to press her lips together hard for several long seconds before she'd composed herself enough to answer the doctor's question. Something about him seemed every so slightly off, as if he just didn't quite fit with the rest of them, but Saya couldn't pinpoint what it was. How could he not be familiar with Bajorans? ' I wouldn't say I'm from Bajor so much as being of Bajor, Doctor. I didn't set foot on the planet until I became engaged. I was born in space. My father was a member of the Bajoran Resistance, but filled that role by carrying supplies between planets.' As to Hetav's assertion that he was an example of cooperation between Caldonian and Kurjarian, well, Saya would give that the same clearance she would a wild sehlat. ---------- Tag Jonathan Hunt and Charlie Fox

[LCDR Matthew Harmon & Chief Baram - Universal Ballroom]
Harmon was neither able nor willing to guarantee the Xoteak asylum, so he did not respond to that comment. The code name Serlat, however piqued his interest. The Kaa memos were public knowledge now, however that code name was not. That went a long way in increasing Harmon's trust in the man, though his willingness to be so open in front of Niles was risky.
Niles took Harmon's teasing in stride, which surprised him. Kova even joined in which was more surprising. He then replied to Baram, who maintained a stoic expression as Niles justified his actions. "I did not agree with Jeren's methods," Baram responded, prompting Harmon to recall Jeren's warnings and analysis of Baram when he had visited him on Cait with Charlie. Jeren saw Baram as a collaborator, not to be trusted. Still, Baram seemed unimpressed by Niles' justification and said nothing more.
"Well, I think we'd best start to get ready to leave. Deal with those furry little bastards. I'll go grab a pilot, Kova, Xoteak you can go make sure everything is ready," he suggested, hinting that he was on board with Xoteak's plan. He then exited and headed towards the table where the Captain and pilot were sitting. "Ensign, one of the Caldonian delegates is ready to release the shrew's we captured. They need a pilot. Xoteak over there with Kova," he said pointing him out. He then turned to the Captain. "I'm going to go with them, take the scenic route. See what this fascinating planet has to show us," he said vaguely to the Captain, subtly indicating he was up to something but avoiding giving any specifics.

[ Kova Sh'qaleq - Universe Ballroom, Caldonia] The tactical officer finally seemed to develop working vision, as he acknowledged Kova's presence in his attempt to save face. He mentioned giving her the name of his tailor whom could probably come up with something that would flatter her complexion. First of all, she would rather crawl through a nest of grelth[fn]Andorian arachnid[/fn] than wear anything close to what Niles was wearing. And then, there was the latter portion of his comment. "Was that a blue jo--?" she asked, her eyes narrowing. She didn't get to finish her statement before Niles dove into some sort of apologetic tirade to Baram. Kova only half listened, but felt she got the gist of it all. Apology... whine, whine... and by the end of some long soliloquy, he was the victim. Kova rolled her eyes. If Niles was coming along, he was probably getting thrown off the transport in mid-flight. Baram simply stated that he didn't agree with Jeren's methods. Kova wasn't sure what to make of it. Was the man going soft, or simply didn't care for a drawn out scene. Either way, Harmon tried to wrap it all up with a nice bow. He ordered Xoteak and Kova to make sure everything was ready, clearly omitting Niles from their little field trip. "Do you Fleeters ever try asking?" Kova called after him as he went to gain the queen's blessing on his field trip. Xoteak stated to Kova that he hoped she had comfortable shoes. She looked down at at her boots and then back at the Caldonian. "I'll be fine," she said through her teeth. "Let's just go." She nodded towards the door. Xoteak seemed all to pleased with himself. Or rather, he was failing at concealing his excitement. Perhaps he'd trip down the stairs on his way to the transport. That'd kill his mood, and amuse the Andorian.

[LCDR Matthew Harmon & Chief Baram - Universal Ballroom]

Syl O'Connell [NPC - Ad-Ass Xoteak - Universe Ballroom]Xoteak did the best he could to keep a neutral expression, and conceal his excitement. This was exactly what he wanted, to make a real difference, instead of just playing. "I hope you have comfortable shoes," he said to the Andorian.
Tag Kova Sh'qaleq [Capt. Judith Eastman(-Williams) - Universe Ballroom]Outwardly, Judy maintained an unflinching poker face, even as she lost whatever remained of her appetite. Harmon had a plan, she could tell, and she trusted him enough to follow his lead, although given that they were dealing in hints and subterfuge, she suspected it wasn't one she could formally approve of. "If there's anything more I need to know, send me a memo; don't do anything stupid, and keep an eye on the delegates," she warned him. The subtext was clear: if Matt was about to do something off the books, Judy needed to be totally insulated from it (hence: anything he couldn't put in writing, he couldn't tell her at all), so she could run interference opposite the Admirals. However, if this plan involved doing things that were morally wrong, there would be consequences, particularly for him. Granted, if Judy knew the full extent of Matt's scheme, not only would she have been neutered politically as a protector, but she also wouldn't have approved of it - not personally, and certainly not as his captain.
Tag Matthew Harmon [Ens. Syl O'Connell - Caldonia - Universe Ballroom]She nodded an acknowledgement as the Captain clarified which form of address she preferred. Two down... When the judge informed her that which level of academic she was didn't matter, a small smile lifted her expression. While the Caldonians might disagree, Syl was able to appreciate the subtle act of rebellion against the caste system. Bending the knee without bowing the head. It wasn't at all what she had been expecting, but it seemed she had a lot to learn about the people she would be working with. As it seemed neither woman would be letting her leave the table, she went ahead and followed the judge's example, and started to eat. Syl had barely finished a breadstick when a man from the delegation came over and informed her that she was needed to pilot a team to release the shrews. "Yes, sir," she replied quickly, grabbing another breadstick to scarf down before standing. As she did so, she overheard the brief exchange between the man and the Captain, and by the sudden shift in the woman's tone realized this was about a lot more than just releasing rodents into the natural habitat. Biting back her sudden surge of excitement, she finished off the breadstick as she walked across the hall to where Xoteak and Kova were. "I hear you're in need of a pilot?" she said simply, as a way to let them know why she had joined them, in case they had been in mid-conversation about a topic they didn't want others to overhear.

[Matthew Harmon - Universal Ballroom] The Captain’s reply wouldn’t have seemed out of the ordinary or in any way notable to most people, but she and Harmon had started to figure each other out and he could tell she was implying she knew he was up to something but knew better than to ask too many questions. “Of course, ma’am, you know me. Never do anything stupid,” he said with a grin. Syl seemed eager, or perhaps just eager to make a good impression and follow orders. He then crossed the room to find Charlie. She seemed to have engaged in conversation with one of the Caldonian delegates, and the Captain’s venerable grandmother. The Caldonian had a deep baritone voice and apparently lived in Sam Fransisco. “Nice suit,” he teased Charlie, noticing she had chosen to wear a pantsuit instead of something she normally wore to functions like this. Of course, Harmon’s own cheap and drab suit was fairly unapproachable too. “Sorry to break up your little group, but I need to borrow Charlie,” he then noticed Shavan, who tended to be crafty and wouldn’t ask too many questions. He’d to. “Shavan, Kova could do with your help,” he said pointing out Kova and the slowly growing number of people he’d sent to her. Once Charlie was away he whispered, “I’ve found us a tour guide. Going to show us some hidden gems tourists like us don’t normally get to see. Olsen got his camera?” He asked, knowing Charlie would figure out what he meant.
