Personal History
Early Life:
Carlisle began existence in 2369, as a prototype learning AI. The intent was to create a free thinking intelligence that could easily adapt to environmental factors and provide superhuman efficiency. This idea was loosely modeled after Dr. Lewis Zimmerman’s holographic assistant, Haley. Dr. Zimmerman considered Haley’s personality core his proprietary creation and would not share the coding, so Carlisle’s base code was created from scratch, so to speak. Her creator was Senior Programmer, Lt. Tomoe Ootori. Ootori had begun his career interning with Zimmerman almost as soon as he’d left the Academy. Project development was going well until 2373 when the Dominion War demanded that resources were reallocated to the war effort. Ootori saved Carlisle’s holomatrix and core memory files from deletion as he was transferred away from Jupiter Station.
Unfortunately, Lt. Ootori’s life was cut short, one of the many casualties of the bloody war. Carlisle was found by Ferengi scavengers, looking for information to sell to the Dominion. Fortunately (or unfortunately) she wound up in the hands of a Ferengi holo-programmer, who didn’t quite realize just what a prize he’d found. Lurik fancied himself an artist, but in reality he was a lazy man who frequently copied and pasted code created by others with more talent. He would insert Carlisle’s holomatrix into multiple holos that he would then try to peddle through a cousin’s holosuites. It was a very confusing time for her emerging sentience, like looking at the world through shattered glass as she tried to pull herself together.
Carlisle started to refuse the commands Lurik coded into the holos, and came very close to deletion a second time. However, she’d learned the art of negotiation and convinced the Ferengi she’d be worth more as an assistant. Around 2379, her luck improved when the pair managed to obtain a copy of the blueprints for a reverse engineered mobile emitter. It took about a year of experimentation, but through persistence she was able to make a somewhat functional prototype. The materials were less than ideal and the device had a tendency to glitch out at times, but it was another step toward true freedom (and escape from the Ferengi she’d come to know as a captor).
Among Lurik’s many vices, the man was an avid gambler. A lot of their time was spent dodging debt collectors, and Carlisle had lost count of the number of seedy bars she’d had to drag him out of. It was only a matter of time before he lost his life or the ship. Of the two, she considered the ship a bigger loss. What she had not considered was that the feckless idiot would actually gamble her in a high stakes game. Lurik would have never bet away one of his biggest assets unless he’d been absolutely sure of victory. So obviously he’d been cheating. Through either remarkable wit, or more likely, impressive dumb luck, the scruffy freighter captain made Lurik snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.
Despite his appearance, the man had a surprising moral streak, and agreed to take her to the nearest Federation outpost. It was a pleasant change from the indentured servitude she’d experienced when owned by Lurik. He hadn’t taken nearly as much convincing, and not even a bribe. She found herself headed for a base named, of all things, Front Ear.

Please write a brief answer to 3 of the following (a sentence or two for each is fine):
Your character's most painful experience
The death of her creator, Lt. Ootori. In his last moments, he managed to put her program in a protective stasis, but the still immature program witnessed his demise. It was only after time had passed, that she realized that the man had in effect been her father, and how his loss had impacted her.
Your character's most crucial experience
Discovering her sentience. Her program had been created years before on Jupiter Station, but she didn’t really exist as a person until her personality began to emerge. It was a very confusing time for her, she reckons it could be compared to a puberty of sorts.
Who is your character's role model and why?
Voyager’s EMH - The Doctor. She’s seen bits and scraps of news about him following Voyager’s return from the Delta Quadrant, even managed to find schematics of his mobile holo emitter.
Please write a brief sample post from your character’s perspective:
”Yes, of course, Master,” Carlisle answered, her green eyes wide with a feigned innocence. The marketplace was crowded, and a woman nearby gave the pair a concerned side-eye. The Captain grimaced, looking almost comically pained.
“Don’t… Don’t call me that.” He waved his hand, like he was trying to shush her. She didn’t like being shushed.
”But you own me. That makes you the master. I am but a lowly servant.” Her voice got a little louder, and the lady scurried away in distaste. ”What else should I call you? Sir, my lord, myyyy lieeeege?” Her voice turned teasing and she stretched out the last of it, singsongly.
“What? No! No… Just use my name. Jeez, why are you like this?” The embarrassment was clear on his face as well as in his tone, as more people looked on judgingly.
Carlisle leaned in and whispered conspiratorially. ”No real reason, Boss. Except it makes people look at you funny, and that’s hilarious.”
