{Click for quotes} [ LT Joshua Niles Prime Camp, Talor City]When the umbrella was handed to him, Niles did not even have the presence of mind to object at being a beast of burden. Frankly, he was just relieved to no longer be in close proximity with the Primary, and given there was very little he could do from in there without a better idea of what was going on, an idea the mere screens could not provide, that holding an umbrella for a few moments was truly the least of his concerns. Even the miserably cold precipitation was an improvement over the weathertight confines of the command center at this point... or at least it would have been had a group not started to coalesce before them, and walked towards the Starfleet personnel in a most menacing fashion. Internally, he swore viciously as the violence-inclined Talorians were nearing his fellow officers, and it would seem the Captain had given voice to her own feelings, though in a far more polite manner than he would have. And, she did admonish him to have a soft touch here... which might not be possible. "As much as I can, Captain," he replied softly before stepping in front of her, and ensuring that the phaser on his right hip, ready for what was once called a cavalry draw, was clear of his coat. "Commander Quinn, Lieutenant Cerjess, I would need you to come this way if you please." Of course, he could not give orders to Mister Quinn, and while he outranked Cerjesss, he was working directly with the Chief Science Officer, so it would be bad form. Therefore, a pointed request would be as much as he could manage for now. But, there remained the issue of the gathering crowd, and how he was pretty much all alone. Of course, he could request reinforcements from the ship and get a fully armed team dirtside fairly quickly, but that had to be a very distant Plan B as it well might offend the Talorians even more... But, there was this attache L'Sho had sent their way. What as his name again... "Lieutenant T'Rok, I would appreciate if you could call in some of your people for some crowd control here, if you please." While he was uncertain as to exact rank equivalencies between Starfleet and the Talorian forces, it tended to pay to be at least courteous, especially when one's safety was in someone else's hands barring force majeure. And, of course, there was a need to defuse this situation, preferably before armed force became necessary. "Miss," he started, casting a look towards Kaela, "You know your people better than I do. What are the odds they can be talked down?"Of course, contingencies had been prepared, ranging from bringing in Security teams to emergency beamouts, but at this point in time, the preferred resolution would be to stop the violence before it started, and not look like they were running away.

Commander Isaiah Quinn - Prime Camp --> Plaza, Talor City, Talor Prime] It was almost as if it were on cue that the supplies arrived. Isaiah nodded at the Captain as she suggested that they get underway. The Science Officer briefly opened a few of the crates to inspect their contents, confirming they had what they'd need before taking up a pair of the crates and began to make his way to the plaza along with the others. Quinn honestly, hadn't expected the Captain to tag along, but didn't have any objections. Quinn cast a single glance in Thea's direction as he stepped into the elements, as it appeared she was busy and preparing to get underway as well. Isaiah found Kaela's query to the captain about the umbrella only slightly amusing. Not necessarily funny, but interested in what she would think about a device that protected one from the rain, as the Captain had put it. He wondered if they had even considered creating such a device given the nature of their environment. However, his mild musings soon gave way to a more menacing obstacle that was beginning to form. Quinn knew that their presence wasn't necessarily a popular event, but several people seemed inclined to let them know it. Lt. Niles eventually asked that both Quinn and Cerjess remain close, likely fearing the possibility that things could get out of hand. As Niles spoke to T'Rok about additional support, Quinn turned his attention to Cerjess. "How much time do you think it'll take to collect the data we need?" he asked. Isaiah didn't want to leave before he did all he could to help these people, but if things escalated too far, it would likely be a decision that was out of his hands. [Lt. JG Cerjess Miren - Talor Prime - Talor City]The Trill wasted no time in opening his crates and pulling out the pylons, beginning by erecting them at several points throughout the plaza before typing in the commands to sync them. So focused on the task at hand, he was, that he didn't even seem to notice the area surrounding them beginning to fill with people. When the volatile yelling started, the shock was evident in his eyes as he glanced over at the angry crowd approaching them. That was not good... He swiftly refocused his attention back on the equipment in front of him, tapping a few more commands into the PADD in his hand, before glancing up at the sky and squinting against the onslaught of icy rain. These certainly weren't ideal conditions to work in, but it was always easier to find the cause of a natural phenomena while it was occurring, so he wouldn't complain about it. He hadn't gotten very far, however, when he heard someone call his name. Cerjess glanced over to the Tactical Lieutenant, then over at Commander Quinn, whom asked how long it would take to gather the necessary data. "That depends on a lot of factors, sir," he began, turning his gaze back to the pylons that were blinking to flash tiny lights in a particular pattern. "Gathering meteorological data and geographical data take time on their own. Then there's the matter of if we'll even be able to pick up any seismic activity from this location. I may need to transport closer to one of the fault lines to get that information. Not to mention the more I'm interrupted, the longer it's going to take..." He didn't mean that last statement to be rude, simply stating the fact. While he normally didn't mind helping other departments when needed... He was far from being security material. The scientist didn't have the faintest idea how to handle an angry mob... But the equipment? That he knew what to do with. But it wasn't his place to argue. If he was called away from the data gathering to assist Lt. Niles, then he would help Lt. Niles... Or at least, try to help, and hope he didn't get everyone killed. [Kaela - Plaza, Prime Camp, Talor City]"Umbrella. I see." Kaela stared at the apparatus for a few more moments, wondering at how such a technologically advanced society would need to rely on something so utterly mundane as this. "Extraordinary," she proclaimed finally, deciding that she would rather have one of these umbrella gadgets than to have to compete with others to be considered important enough for a personal force-field. The simplest solution was often the best one. Any further study or question was cut off, however, when a number of angry Talorians broke through and began to shout abuse at the Federationers. Kaela, unused to such displays of emotion, clutched the strap of her bag to her chest and made a couple of steps backward. T'Rok dropped one of the crates he was moving and stepped in front of her and the Captain. The lieutenant was silent, not speaking words, yet the confusion on his face at being ordered around by the Federation security officer was apparent. "By you?" Kaela asked in return of the man when he asked the odds of talking the mob down, "Low." She began to move around T'Rok, recovering her poise from the initial shock. "Let the others know," she told T'Rok as she passed, fully aware that the staff in the tent would have known about the approaching evacuees before even those outside had, but it was a way to remove potential aggressors. She moved closer towards the shouting people. Her people. She clutched the strap even tighter and cleared her throat once, twice, and spoke. "They are here to help!" She gestured toward Quinn and Lt. Miren, who were trying to gather data in the plaza, and did not deserve to be set upon by ingrates. "Our planet is ailing, and we do not know why. We need help to figure it out and to restore the balance, so we can all go home to our kin."Kaela had a sinking feeling that her words were falling on deaf ears, particularly as one individual decided to start throwing things at her. A half-rotten jumjum fruit flew past her head. Behind the small group of Starfleet personnel a number of soldiers filed out of the tent and lined up in front of it defensively. They had their orders; they'd protect only Primary Camp. [Prime Camp - Talor City] When the Bataqs didn't acknowledge their unified and unhappy voices. The anger began to bubble hotter, the ice rain unable to quench their thirst to be heard. They seemed ignorant and oblivious, especially as they began to protect their own as if the Talorians were like something unholy and not to be looked upon. Then one of their own started to speak, claiming that the Bataqs were here to help, before trying to reason with them about the plight of the Talor and why they were here. Some of his kin weren't willing to listen as one youngling threw jumjum fruit at the scientist. Perhaps that would get their attention before the government soldiers appeared and took up a defensive position. It was obvious to the leader that they didn't care about the people either. However half of the group became fearful especially if brought before the Supreme Leader and backed off, leaving only the leader and four others. " Why don't they speak for themselves then, instead of hiding. If what you say is true then let them talk and prove they're not here to destroy us!".If the soldiers came then may the gods look over them but they weren't going anywhere, not yet and continued to throw fruit. [Capt. Judith Eastman(-Williams) - Prime Camp, Talor City]Judy wasn't sure quite what she had hoped for. Perhaps it was for T'Rok to engage some more serious crowd control, or for Niles to apply a diplomatic touch. Regardless, the situation, though not abysmal, wasn't optimal either. There were two options: either retreat, abandoning the necessary scientific work, or give the 5 remaining hardliners what they wanted, and perhaps take a fruit, or fist, to the face. Even for the uber-risk-averse Judy, the choice wasn't particularly hard. "Let us speak."Motioning for security to clear the way, she stepped forward and stood beside Kaela, removing her hood but keeping her umbrella raised, so that they could better see her face. "My name is Judy Eastman, and I lead this group of Starfleeters. We've come here to help you. These men are here to study your planet, so we can help you understand what is wrong. Elsewhere, we've sent doctors to help tend to the wounded," the Captain explained, speaking just loudly enough to be heard over the rain. A fruit glanced past her forearm, and though she momentarily glared at the direction from which it came, she promptly resumed speaking. "The scientists' work is very delicate, but I can answer your questions, about it or about us, so long as you give them space."And hopefully, no more fruit.

[ LT Joshua Niles Prime Camp, Talor City]Niles' eyes were only for the crowd at this point in time. He knew he was in no position to give orders to Talorian personnel, which was why he had couched his words to T'Rok as a request. For one thing, he was sufficiently sensitive to the situation to know that bringing down a dozen or so fully armed Starfleet Security people in a hurry would do very little good in terms of their already less than ideal relationship with the Talorian government, and it was going to inflame the crowd to a point where there might not be any peaceful ways of settling things. And, to be honest, he was definitely not surprised when he was told flat-out that he had almost no chances of talking down the angry Talorians. Frankly, he knew he was no diplomat and he knew it. Hell, he wasn't even that good a security planner, and barely adequate in providing physical security; his primary skills were in space-side operations. And now, he found himself wishing Lieutenant Andrews or Commander Aune would be here with their own skills. Or the big man's hulking presence, at the very least. And as he was musing about that, a volley of various projectiles came their way. First, something whizzed by his head, a rock if he had to guess, and then he was rocked back a step as some kind of partially decomposed vegetable exploded on impact against his chest, and while his balance was still off something harder, some kind of local tuber, smacked near his eye and dropped him to a knee. His right hand fell to his hip... but he stopped himself just as his fingers closed about the grip of his phaser, and after shaking his head he slowly pushed himself back to his feet, empty-handed and sporting the beginnings of what might turn into a spectacular shiner. And that was just in time for troops to start filing out of the camp... and stopping to form a line just outside the gate. Of course. Well, that would make things even more interesting all right, but at least that show of force led to some of the less aggressive types scampering away, and for Captain Eastman to move past him and speak for their presence on the planet. And despite the risk, he realized what she was doing, so he stepped up to stand right behind her shoulder once more, and his hand well clear of his weapon. He needed the Talorians to see that while armed, while all of them were armed, no one was there to bring harm to them, and that they knew restraint. And, once the Captain was done, he too spoke. "We are here at the request of your government and..." Then, he stopped talking. Among those gathered, was a father who was trying, unsuccessfully, to shield his two children and himself from the miserably cold precipitation, and he had an idea. Actions always spoke louder than words. Which meant that the Tactical Officer was also going to be doing something he was going to regret all right... Slowly, he removed his coat, and slowly walked towards the crowd, and offered the garment to the fellow who was trying to keep his children as warm and dry as he could. It wouldn't be as good as one jacket for each of them, but at least it would provide a shelter large enough for both little ones to huddle under.

[ Thea - Medical Tent, Prime Camp, Talor City] Once Left Ear accepted the Padd and acknowledged her instructions. Thea smiled as the Sivaoan adapted to her new surroundings with her usefuls as well as her bedside manner as she approached the first cot. Leaving her to continue dealing with the female Talorian as Thea prepared to check over the occupant of the other cot. Becoming vaguely aware of the Princess's arrival and soothing words to those who had been wary of coming into the medical tent. Thea was hopeful that the rest of the injured would eventually make their way inside as Left Ear then came back and murmured a suggestion to her. Considering what they had witnessed already and the odds that it was only going to get worse, even those who were used to such weather weren't completely immune from their effects. So if they could minimise the risks by using something as simple as heating units, then it was worth it. " Good idea as the rain is only likely to get worse and we need to do what we can in order to minimise harm and further illness. I'll contact the ship and have some sent down".Stepping to one side so as not to alarm anyone, Thea spoke to the ship and a few minutes later, six heating units materialised.

Tag Ozu Saya[ Left Ear to-Ennien - Medical Tent] Left Ear spared only a brief glance for the princess, just long enough to note that she didn't appear to be there for treatment, and retrieved one of the heating units to set up near the cots. She was impressed with the speed of the response with the supplies. The Sivaoan instantly felt better herself as the warmth from the heating unit permeated the chill of her wet fur. Left Ear moved onto another cot, introducing herself again and waving her scanner over another shivering body. The male had a more obvious problem with a large, hastily bandaged wound on his thigh. She could tell it was going to need to be sealed up with a dermal regenerator. Left Ear took a quick look around to make sure no one else was urgently waiting while grabbing another blanket for the Talorian, then returned and explained, ' I'm going to need to sterilize your injury and then I'll use a dermal regenerator to close it up. It may hurt a bit, but it will only take a couple of minutes. I can give you a mild pain reliever if you'd like.' Left Ear didn't like to use pain medications as a matter of course, so unless the person was unable to answer for themselves, she always preferred to ask. The Talorian nodded as he shivered violently. Left Ear draped the blanket around him, then crouched to open her medkit on the floor. She loaded a hypospray with a mild, general analgesic and antibiotic that was rated as safe for Talorians and injected his arm. She ran a sterlizer over her hands, then carefully pulled on specially-made gloves that would keep her fur from contaminating his wound as she removed the dirty bandage. Left Ear was able to unwind several layers of the bandage before it stuck, obviously having been applied quite some time ago. She paused and glanced up at the male who seemed to be staring at her ears, which had been flicking and turning as she listened to what was going on around the tent. ' I'll have to soak this off. That may hurt a little more. I'm sorry for that.
Can someone bring me a bottle of saline?' she called out to anyone nearby. ---------- Tag Thea Baker

{Quoted Posts} [ Elana - Prime Camp, Talor City] Her eyes still glared with an unnatural fury at the way L'Sho had exerted his dominance and kept her out of the update to their people. However Elana knew where her loyalties laid and until she was thrust into the spotlight as the successor to her sister, she wasn't unlike the very people who now sought safety from the wrath of the gods. Casting one last look at the Supreme Leader, one filled with disdain before turning her attention back to Kohr'don. Seeing the way he looked at her, she hoped he could see the truth and fire that had been awoken as he then agreed to accompany her to help the Bataq Doctors. " Thank you, Elder, you have been most helpful to me already and I know our people will be most pleased that you will be with me".Elana smiled softly as she then followed the path that Baker and the one called Left Ear, a most curious humanoid that Elana found fascinating. Practically to the point that Kaela's voice didn't seem to appeal them. Isaiah almost felt the urge to intercede when the fruit was cast in her direction, but wondered if it would make matters worse. He tightly clinched a fist, thinking it better to leave the crowd to Niles and T'Rok, whom didn't seem to be in much of a hurry to help calm matters... at least not yet. Isaiah listened to Cerjess as he worked to finish setting up the equipment. Quinn did the same, sighing as he heard Lt. Miren say what Quinn had already surmised. "Then we make the most of the time we have here," he said. "If it becomes necessary to check one of the epicenters... we'll cross that bridge when we get to it." It wasn't the type of order that he cared to give, but if the mission demanded it and Captain Eastman consented, then that's what they would do. He wasn't about to let Cerjess go alone. As Quinn finished setting up one of the recorders, he could overhear some of the dialogue happening only a few meters away. Captain Eastman and Niles were doing their best to speak on behalf of Starfleet. Quinn wasn't sure how long or even if those answers would appease this crowd. A beep from the machine he'd set up signified that it was finally collecting some data. Quinn tapped his comm badge. =A= "Quinn to Mac. I need the ship's computer to establish a direct link to the seismographer and all the other devices we have scanning at this location. Back the data up and allow the computer to process the findings. Notify myself or Lt. Miren of any significant readings. Quinn out." =A=Quinn looked over at Miren, not doubting his abilities in the least. "Using the ship's computers could help us diagnose the situation a bit faster," Quinn stated. "But you're still our ace in the hole here." It wasn't as if he needed to stroke the man's ego, but he did feel inclined to state the truth of the matter. "Anything of significance yet?"

[NPC - Elder Kohr'don - Sector 1A, Arrivals, Prime Camp, Talor City] Kohr'don nodded slowly and gave Elana a smile. How she carried herself in these next moments would mean a great deal not just for her, but for their people as well. He followed her as she moved to speak to their people directly. He found himself satisfied with her calling the Federationers what they were: bataqs. It was a clever choice of words... making it clear that it was with her people she stood. Even if she was still granting the Federationers reprieve... and apparently asking her people not to fear them. Kohr'don continued to look on, not yet prepared to make himself available to aid the likes of the Federation.

[ Thea - Medical Tent, Prime Camp, Talor City] Now that they had the benefit of heat and protection from the rain thanks to the tent. Thea took off her jacket and set it to one side out of the way and activated the last heating unit. Spacing them out for practicality whilst keeping everyone safe from tripping or from accidentally knocking into them. Then she began to scan an elderly Talorian man, speaking to him reassuringly as she noted his injuries and provided him with a blanket. When she then heard Left Ear ask for saline, Thea retrieved a bottle from a nearby equipment crate along with one for herself, before going over. " Here Left Ear, I've got the saline for you" she replied warmly as she handed the bottle over before returning to her own patient. Depending on numbers, Thea considered requesting additional back up, but for now decided that between her and Left Ear they could manage for now. ******************** [ Elana - Medical Tent, Prime Camp, Talor City] Elana wasn't so naive and hopeful to think that her words alone would reassure and encourage her people not to fear the Bataqs. However as the rain began to fall and the droplets got even colder, even she was beginning to struggle a little. Ignoring the shiver down her spine as she needed to help, needed to prove to herself that she wasn't like L'Sho or what the people assumed her to be. Some refused point blank and huddled together away from the medical tent to tend to wounds and to keep warm. Whilst a few others entered the tent to observe the fleet doctors at work. It was definitely a start as Elana noticed how the Elder had fallen silent. That's when the Princess had an idea and spoke to him quietly. " I'm not a healer and I know that some of our people will refuse the Bataqs help. So Elder would you help me distribute blankets and food?. Perhaps offer a prayer or words of wisdom to those who need it?".

[Kaela - Plaza, Prime Camp, Talor City]Kaela remained silent while the Captain addressed the crowd, and though she feared that this exchange would not end well, she was also struck by the many differences apparent between her people and theirs. It was not really in their nature to help in such a way without expectation for payment in some form. She understood then why her people were suspicious; it wasn't their fault, their experiences and their culture were just very, very different. She might have been more suspicious of these outsiders herself had she not listened to all of her father's logs about them - the very same logs that they'd graciously returned to her. When the Lieutenant spoke up, and then trailed off, she cocked her head. She had no idea that Talor had officially requested assistance, though she was glad that it wasn't expanded upon, as that might enrage them further. When the younglings were approached with the coat, she finally spoke. "They help us and ask for nothing in return. You do not have to believe that, but you should believe that our planet is in crisis and that we need all the help we can get."Part of the gathered crowd, seemingly quieted by the appearance of L'Sho's officers, had already wandered off. Kaela hoped that the Federationers had at least convinced them to stop throwing produce. Her attention briefly turned toward Quinn and Lt. Miren, hoping that they were alright. [Primary L'Sho - Temporary Primary Command, Sector 1A, Prime Camp]"Follow the instructions of my Navy. Be strong, be steadfast. Have faith that with the help of the gods, we will overcome this."Primary L'Sho maintained his composure throughout the broadcast, but when he signed off and the holorecorder's flickering lights blinked out, his expression changed to one of distaste. He moved across the tent, listening to reports as he walked. As he stepped outside his personal forcefield activated automatically, and two of his officers side-stepped in brisk unison to admit him. The tall Talorian male stood, sharp eyes taking in the scene quickly. The sight of the arrogant officers of the USS Mac having rotten fruit being thrown at them was almost enough to lift his mood. In fact, the corners of his mouth twitched slightly upward, though they fell just as quickly when he noticed his sister. L'Shaya, along with her crazy Sisters of K'fra, were in the middle of a sacrificial ritual. There was a time when such a prayer would call for a true, legitimate sacrifice, but L'Sho had to logically assume that even they would not be so short-sighted as to use organs that had been harvested from a volunteer. He turned away, the displeasure returning. He waved away an approaching T'Rok, dismissing him to return to the Federation's people, then disappeared back inside his temporary command post.

[Prime Camp - Talor City]
The remaining five protesters paused with various handfuls of jumjum and other fruits in their hands when the one wearing a strange something on their eyes decided to stop hiding and start speaking to them. They still remained wary, questions forming in their minds before another young one threw a jum jum in her direction, which came close to hitting her properly. However when she then mentioned the scientists and asked them to give them space. The leader wasn't sure before the one wearing yellow spoke after her. Curiosity mixed with residual anger at his words followed until he removed his protective garment and offered it to a man and his younglings.
If this was some kind of trick then they would pay for such treachery until the Talorian scientist spoke again. Perhaps she was right but they would not trust these people yet but they did confer about helping their home.
" We will give you the space that you need but time is needed before we fully trust these Bataqs".
Then they backed off towards shelter, keeping the group within sight as the father accepted the coat with a nod and wrapped it around his younglings.
[L'Shaya - Prime Camp, Talor City]
As she finished the most ancient of hymns, L'Shaya locked her gaze towards her brother as he bothered to actually look outside at the commotion being aimed at the Bataqs. The gods were truly looking down as it began to calm down before he looked towards her.
She could see the disdain and how he was likely finding the exchange and her presence highly amusing. Although she would have the last laugh when the gods finally brought Talor back from the brink of despair.

[Capt. Judith Eastman(-Williams) - Prime Camp, Talor City]Judy had a dream scenario, in which her words led to a technically-minded Q&A session - the kind of extended interaction that was both her comfort zone and area of strength. However, under the circumstances, getting space for the scientists to work was a significant win. "Thank you," she said, gently, to the protesters as they backed away. She would, of course, make herself available if any came back to her with questions, armed with all the usual tools. With that immediate tension gone, she turned her mind to Lt. Niles. By interjecting with cold, political backstory details, he could well have squandered some goodwill, but he had contributed a net positive by donating his coat. A mixed set of behaviors, to be analyzed - good and bad together - later. Right now, hypothermia was the greater risk. "Lieutenant, I have a rain poncho and another umbrella in my bag, in the second compartment from the back," she indicated. "Might not be your style, but they'll keep you dry."The poncho was in an orchid-pink color, rather feminine but nothing outlandish, whereas the spare umbrella was adorned with Helen Eastman[fn]Granddaughter, age 3[/fn]'s favorite My Little Targ characters. It was quite clear what demographics usually benefited from the contents of this backpack. Next, Judy turned her head to look at Kaela, who had been quite helpful. "It's remarkable how every culture, no matter how sophisticated, keeps some inherent mistrust of outsiders," she mused, implying quite strongly that she understood the suspicion, and took no offense by it. After attending a conference on Cardassia Prime in the year 2377, a chilly reception could no longer offend the Captain.

Arriving as the Doctors were busy, Elana was then greeted by several Talorians who looked to her and Kohr'don for guidance. " Do not fear the Bataqs, they mean us no harm". [Lt. JG Cerjess Miren - Talor Prime - Talor City][...] He hadn't gotten very far, however, when he heard someone call his name. {Spoiler}[Kaela - Plaza, Prime Camp, Talor City]
[...] "By you?" Kaela asked in return of the man when he asked the odds of talking the mob down, "Low." She began to move around T'Rok, recovering her poise from the initial shock. [Prime Camp - Talor City] [...] Some of his kin weren't willing to listen as one youngling threw jumjum fruit at the scientist. {Spoiler}[Capt. Judith Eastman(-Williams) - Prime Camp, Talor City]
[...] "Let us speak."Motioning for security to clear the way, she stepped forward and stood beside Kaela, removing her hood but keeping her umbrella raised, so that they could better see her face. [ LT Joshua Niles Prime Camp, Talor City][...] And, once the Captain was done, he too spoke. "We are here at the request of your government and..." Then, he stopped talking. It wouldn't be as good as one jacket for each of them, but at least it would provide a shelter large enough for both little ones to huddle under. [Lt. Commander Isaiah Quinn - Plaza, Prime Camp, Talor City] It was quickly obvious that time was of the essence, in more ways than one. The crowd was already proving unruly.

JG Cerjess Miren - Talor Prime - Talor City]The Trill's gaze remained focused intently on the PADD in his hand, though he nodded in acknowledgement of Quinn's statements. The computer's analysis would be a great help, though he wasn't sure how he felt about being an 'ace in the hole'. So intent was his focus, that he didn't even seem to notice the fruit flying past him towards the other members of the away team, though he did notice the shouting quieted down a bit after a few minutes. Good. It seemed someone had bought them a little more time. "Bedrock is significantly closer to the surface than on most Class-M planets. That would definitely cause the topsoil to erode far quicker than usual under these constant onslaughts." It wasn't the entire answer, but at least it was a start. "While we're waiting on the meteorological data to finish compiling, we can figure out a way to stabilize the ground to help reduce the floods and landslides." He paused then, at last glancing up at the scientist beside him. "Though off the top of my head I have no idea how we'd do that." Perhaps the Department Chief's experience would be beneficial in that area, or maybe he'd know someone else with experience there.

After attending a conference on Cardassia Prime in the year 2377, a chilly reception could no longer offend the Captain. [ LT Joshua Niles Prime Camp, Talor City ]Part of Niles expected he would be swarmed the moment he got close, but between his actions and the words of both the Captain and Kaela, it would seem the angry mob was calmed, for now. Well, the Captain had told him that actions, and gestures, spoke much louder than words... and that simple nod from the father who accepted his coat and draped it across his children's shoulders spoke volumes. It didn't matter if the Talorian Primary hated the Federation, if Talorian religious extremists were willing to butcher civilians for their rituals. What mattered was that a very simple rapport could be established... and it would seem that giving one the coat off their back in a downpour was pretty much universal all right. By the time he had returned to Captain Eastman's side, he duty jacket was already saturated with water, and it was starting to seep into his shirt Before long, he knew he would be thoroughly miserable, and given the sheer amount of supplies needed to be beamed down from the Mac, there was no telling when he might be able to get a fresh jacket sent down... and it would seem Captain Eastman had thought of such things, and when she directed him to her pack, he offered a nod. "Thank you, Captain,", he answered before opening the specified compartment. He wasn't sure what he was going to find given her nature and temperament, but he expected to find something suitably neutral and not... this. The poncho's colour was positively retina-burning to the young Lieutenant's sensibilities, but at this point in time, beggars could not afford to be choosers, and the fact he had no idea when he would get to stop shivering was all the motivation he needed to extract the aggressively coloured poncho and drape it over his shoulders, and cinching it as tight as he could to his waist as to maximize heat retention for the time being. And then, something dawned on him. However, the hood was a little tight on him and he could not bring it up comfortably, which meant that the cold rain was mercilessly hammering at his head, stinging against what was indeed turning into a spectacular shiner. "Captain, I have an idea." Those could be dangerous words coming from a junior officer, but he figured he had a handle on things. "When I was in the CP, there were reports that unrest are blocking evacuation routes. Refugees have no way here right now, and they're stuck in the weather. We could get the Mac to replicate ponchos made of the same materials as our coats, and have them beamed along the evacuation lines. More convenient than blankets, easier to replicate in large numbers than jackets since we'd only need what, two sizes between children and adults? Even sending a few crates here wouldn't go amiss with the refugees already in the camp."

Tag Ozu Saya Isaiah Quinn[ Left Ear to-Ennien - Medical Tent] Left Ear hadn't expected Thea to leave her own patient to get the saline, but she glanced up and said, ' Thank you, Doctor,' before turning back to her patient. She finally noticed that most of the Talorians were staying back from them and that only the one that was a princess (whatever that meant) was trying to help. She pulled the cover off the bottle and tipped it over the crusty bandage. When it was sufficiently soaked, Left Ear set the bottle aside and held the bandage for a short time, giving a tiny tug every now and then to see if the sterile liquid had loosened up the blood that was holding the bandage on. Finally, it started to come loose, and Left Ear pulled it away carefully, picking up the bottle to soak the next layer before she got to it. She continued soaking and tugging until she'd pulled the bandage off entirely, revealing a jagged wound with a significant amount of dirt and grit in it. Left Ear was glad she'd already given him an antibiotic, from the look of things. The Talorian would have been better off leaving the wound open to the air rather than wrapping up all the dirt with it. Still, it was only mildly infected. Left Ear used some gauze pads and more of the saline to carefully flush the wound and wipe down the surrounding skin. When she was sure there was nothing left inside, the Sivaoan finally took the dermal regenerator from her kit and began passing it slowly back and forth over the rough edges. Left Ear glanced up to check on the Talorian and was startled to find his finger very close to her face. She flinched slightly, the regenerator jerking away from the Talorian's leg. ' Sorry,' he whispered hoarsely, pulling his hand back inside his blanket. ' I've just...never seen a being like you.' Left Ear relaxed and went back to treating his leg. ' It's all right. I know I look strange to you. I'm surprised I haven't had more people try to touch yet.' Her tail lifted to coil in amusement, causing the male's eyes to widen in surprise. ---------- Soft tag Thea Baker

[ Thea - Medical Tent, Prime Camp, Talor City] Thea smiled as Left Ear thanked her for the saline, knowing that she might of caught the Sivaoan by surprise by bringing it over. However until they had additional help it was a case of adopting a dual role and so far the injuries had been minor. That was definitely a good thing but at the same time, it could change with very little notice. Once she was back at the cot and the elderly man who was now swaddled in the blanket that she had given him. The Talorians may naturally be wary of the fleeters but hopefully this would go some way to change that perception. Besides all she could do was be herself and that's what she did as she spoke to him. Not taking too long in reassuring him as she worked on his cuts and bruises. Leaving him to warm up before moving onto the next patient.
Several Talorians the entered the tent thanks to the Princess's encouragement. One was a little girl around four years old who became fascinated with Left Ear's tail. Inching closer despite her mother's warnings in order to touch it.

{Quoted Posts} [ Thea - Medical Tent, Prime Camp, Talor City] Now that they had the benefit of heat and protection from the rain thanks to the tent. Perhaps offer a prayer or words of wisdom to those who need it?".[Kaela - Plaza, Prime Camp, Talor City]Kaela remained silent while the Captain addressed the crowd, and though she feared that this exchange would not end well, she was also struck by the many differences apparent between her people and theirs. [Prime Camp - Talor City] The remaining five protesters paused with various handfuls of jumjum and other fruits in their hands when the one wearing a strange something on their eyes decided to stop hiding and start speaking to them. " We will give you the space that you need but time is needed before we fully trust these Bataqs".Then they backed off towards shelter, keeping the group within sight as the father accepted the coat with a nod and wrapped it around his younglings.
[ L'Shaya - Prime Camp, Talor City] As she finished the most ancient of hymns, L'Shaya locked her gaze towards her brother as he bothered to actually look outside at the commotion being aimed at the Bataqs. The gods were truly looking down as it began to calm down before he looked towards her. She could see the disdain and how he was likely finding the exchange and her presence highly amusing. Although she would have the last laugh when the gods finally brought Talor back from the brink of despair. [Lt. {Spoiler}[ LT Joshua Niles Prime Camp, Talor City ]
[...] "Captain, I have an idea." Those could be dangerous words coming from a junior officer, but he figured he had a handle on things. Even sending a few crates here wouldn't go amiss with the refugees already in the camp."[Lt. Commander Isaiah Quinn - Prime Camp, Talor City] Isaiah was looking at the data that they were accumulating and listening to Cerjess as well. On the bright side, it seemed that calmer heads had prevailed for the time being. Thus, he wanted to be sure to take advantage of it. What bothered Quinn was still the cause. This drastic weather was merely a symptom. Hearing Cerjess, Isaiah nodded as his brain began to turn ideas over in his head. "We could try to establish a weather modification net. A series of probes could be modified to act as satellites that would take some of the zing out of these storms," Isaiah mused aloud. "It's a temporary fix at best... and would likely have to be directed manually."Isaiah sighed. "Until we get to the cause, things will continue to get progressively worse," Isaiah stated. He then turned towards Captain Eastman. "Captain, any objection to us having the Mac modify and launch those probes into a geosynchronous orbit? The Talorians would see an effect, but it's imperative they understand that this would be a temporary fix at best. We're still working on the cause of all this."

[NPC - Elder Kohr'don - Sector 1A, Arrivals, Prime Camp, Talor City] He had to give Elana credit for being far craftier than he had anticipated. She had used her words to link Kohr'don's own faith and influence to her own. If the people didn't trust the Bataqs or their princess, then they would rely upon faith. And it certainly wouldn't be prudent to enter into some sort of power struggle so openly. Well-played. The Elder stepped forward before the crowd, lifting his hand to collect their attention. "My children, know that the gods test our faith and our courage in these hours. We find ourselves now being forged in a furnace of ice. We don't trust them to deliver us from this trial. We trust that they have already given us the strength to succumb the challenges we now face." His eyes gauged the crowd before continuing. "The tools we need to meet this challenge, have already been provided to us." Kohr'don waved forward a pair of stewards who were prepared to distribute the resources to the people.

[ Elana - Prime Camp, Talor City] Given what she had seen and wanting to do what was right by their people. Elana knew that she had to rely on the Elder and hope that her words would reach the part of him that everyone admired and listened too. Until the Bataqs succeeded in changing everyone's perception of them, Elana had to be that vessel that bridged the gap between her people and the outsiders. Whilst at the same time, she couldn't forget who she was and what she represented. It was a journey that she was willing to take and when Kohr'don the stepped before the crowd and began to speak. Elana smiled, feeling his words wash over her as the crowd reacted to his wisdom. It was truly breathtaking to witness and it was if she could feel the truth and the strength that they gained from it. " Our Elder is most wise and we will never forget these awful times. However our faith remains strong as we look to a new Talor, one that is prosperous as long as we respect the gods".Then as the stewards began to hand out supplies, Elana stood by Kohr'don and quietly spoke to him. " Thank you, Elder, I found that just as rewarding as our people did".
