[Eta Borir - LZ-2 Kerelia Infirmary - 3rd St] Eta nodded with a smile as her eyes sparkled wickedly and she wished she had a phaser in her hand. She moved slowly towards the Bajoran. The Cardassian knew, why she actually wanted to avoid encounters with Bajorans. "Yes, I'm sure ," she replied to the comment that the investigator would surely look closely and breathed the warmth into her limbs so as not to do something she would later regret.
She hurried out of the infirmary again and walked at a normal pace to the stone she had been sitting on earlier.

{Quotes} [Ens. Syl O'Connell - Kerelia - Colony]Syl clenched her jaw slightly as Charlie gave her an honest answer and explanation. That was exactly the type of personality she had too much personal experience being on the receiving end of. Her father, her boyfriend, the Caldonian guards, and now potentially a coworker and senior officer. At least this time she had the heads up to prepare herself for it. Kova replied over the com to say she'd join them shortly, and Syl redirected her attention to their surroundings. The festive bottles Charlie pointed out was a welcome sight, and she nodded her agreement and followed the other woman towards the stall. She didn't recognize anyone they passed, with the exception of the Bajorans that had been on the tour and the young Trill that was talking to them. The two people she had met before didn't seem to be here. At least she had the others. Their steady presence was all that was keeping her from going back to the station and hiding out in her quarters. "That looks like a good spot," she said, pointing towards a table with an umbrella over it to provide partial shade to the attached benches. It didn't seem like a permanent addition to the plaza, likely put up for the sake of the festival and the amount of people they were expecting to attend. But it was vacant, and had a clear view of most of the surrounding area. [ Kova Sh'qaleq - N 3rd St. --> Plaza, Colony, LZ-2, Kerelia] [...] Eventually, Kova's eyes fell upon the trio that seemed to be searching for somewhere to sit. She began to move towards the pack: Syl, Charlie and Shavan. "I hope you three don't expect me to be touched that you waited for me before starting rounds," Kova chimed as she got closer. "Just means we're going to have to shoot doubles of whatever to keep pace."[ Shavan Th’zhaar - Plaza] “Sounds like a plan,” Shavan answered Charlie. He took a bottle of the springwine and nodded agreement when Syl pointed out a table. It better than nothing. Following the others as they took a seat, he briefly returned the wave of the woman he recognized as the owner of the Blue Beta. Before they had gotten settled they were joined by Kova, who greeted them in typical fashion. “Fine with me,” he answered with a grin and took a drink. [Charlie Fox - Plaza, LZ-2]"Nicely spotted," Charlie said to Syl as the others began moving toward the partially shaded area with benches and umbrella. She whipped out her personal PADD and with a few taps, paid for several bottles of springwine, along with a set of the beautifully crafted glasses. It wasn't that she was above drinking from the bottle, but even Charlie the Philistine and former Caldonian Prisoner knew that wine was supposed to be consumed from a wine glass. Not only that, she was there to support the festival in a way, and that included appreciating the Bajoran work and wares on offer in the plaza. She actually smiled a thanks to the glassmith, who seemed pleased, and joined the others at the picnic table, arms laden. "It was either these or the mugs with Sisko's face on them," she explained, good humour in her voice as she placed the wine and glasses down. "The ones with two handles where his ears should be - did you see them? Makes him look like a Ferengi."When Kova arrived, it was almost a reunion. It was strange that Charlie didn't pause to wonder what it was exactly they were doing, or why, all she knew what it was the first time she'd felt "okay" since landing on the jungle planet. She cocked a brow at the Andorian as she pulled the cork from the bottle of wine and began to pour. "You done with Captain "I'm Just A Fragile Grandma" Eastman?" She asked, then handed Kova the glass, thinking she might need a quick refreshment more than the rest of them, considering who she'd just been with. "New game - you take a shot every time she mentions a grandchild, baked good, or a member of her entourage tells her how wonderful or brilliant she is."With a sly smile, and feeling more herself than she had any right to, she continued to pour for the others.

[Ens. Syl O'Connell - Kerelia - Colony Plaza]Syl lifted an amused eyebrow at the description of the mugs for sale. "I can think of a few people to give one too. You know, as a thank you gift." The doting Captain may or not be one of them. As Kova joined them, Syl gestured towards one of the unopened bottles on the table. "I was planning on finishing one of those before you got here, but we just sat down." It felt nice to be able to just relax with them, not worrying about watching their backs, scouting the area, or whispering plans... She picked up one of the glasses once Charlie had finished pouring, but before she could take a sip ended up snorting a laugh as the other human started making jokes about that particular Captain. Once upon a time she would have gotten defensive, but considering she'd only had one conversation with the woman before being stranded in a concentration camp, that dutiful sense of loyalty had disappeared. Of course, she'd do her job and remain professional... but considering she wasn't anywhere close to being released back to work, she didn't feel the need to be professional at the moment either. "Do people really do that?" she asked in regards to the barrage of compliments, finally taking a drink. The wine certainly wasn't as strong as she had hoped for, but it was definitely better than nothing.

=A= "Sh'qaleq to Eastman. According to the system's records, there was only one administrative account active during that time period and it belongs to the stiff." =A=
[NPC - Crewman Ezra Mora - N 3rd St., Colony, LZ-2, Kerelia] Captain Eastman eventually joined her husband and grandson. At some point during his communication with the Captain, the Cardassian woman had taken her leave. The Captain ran the serial number of the tricorder and saw that it had been registered to Dr. Murra. It didn't seem odd that it had been checked out by the victim. Yet, the fact that it had been registered to him and found beneath a cone, well that was a bit peculiar. Ezra reached for his own tricorder and began to scan the device. "Captain, I can confirm the victim's prints," he reported. "Along with everyone here, Ms. Borir...." Ezra's brow furrowed as he titled his head slightly. He ran an additional scan to confirm. "Captain, there's an additional set of prints that doesn't appear to be in our database." [Capt. Judith Eastman(-Williams), PhD, Max Williams, & Michael Eastman - Judy & Max's Kerelian Condo]Judy thought for a moment. "Let's go out to the porch, shall we?" she suggested to Ezra. "Mikey, Grandma's gonna save the day, and you can go check up on your auntie Anna. I'm sure she and Grandpa would love to play Settlers of Catan with you," she then told Michael. "We would," Max confirmed. "Okay. Good luck, Grandma.""Thank you, Mikey."Judy planted a kiss on Michael's forehead, and then Max's lips, before heading out onto the porch. "He's far too young to be in the middle of all this," the Captain explained herself. The porch was built into the dome-shaped structure of the building, shielded thusly from the bright sun. It had a picturesque view of the beach and the jungles. "Our victim, Dr. Murra, is a Cardassian war criminal, one of a list of 46 working in the Federation that the Bajoran government wants to try for crimes during the occupation," she explained. "What's more, the Tal Shi'ar wants most of them for their technical skills, so in the spirit of casting a wide net, I'll feed this print through some of Starfleet Intelligence's databases."She began a search to that end, when she got the comm from Sh'qaleq. =A= "Thank you. Eastman out." =A= She relayed the info to Jenkins: JEW: The Crane was tampered with using the vic, Murra's, credentials. "What do you make of it?" the Captain asked the Ensign in her company as they waited for results.

[ LT Joshua Niles - N 3rd St, Colony, LZ-2, Kerelia ][...] Though, when Jenkins arrived, Niles hit the ground running. "Mister Jenkins, I'm given to understand you have delegate access. Here is what I need right now. First of all, we have a Vedek here with administrative access to Warp Age's system; I need to know why, and who granted it to him. And this... Mister Keltner here, a computer support contractor. I need to know who granted the Vedek access and just how much, and I'd like to know what Miser Keltner, and this Stok, were up to lately."And that was just the start. He was on a roll now, his mind working through his analytical process; odds are, the hag would not approve of his methods, or think she could do things much better than him, but that was her problem. "Also, I need surveillance of the site between 0300 and sunup, and to account for the whereabouts of all of Warp Age's staff and contractors, and the Vedek, and not just with access logs, but with video surveillance as well for the whole time period. Let's make sure we have no discrepancies between the two.""Oh, and if you can, please forward Ms. Sh'qaleq individual encryption keys for administrative users, see if we can't speed up her work on the crane some."After all, if a bone had been thrown his way in the form of the time of death to narrow down his suspect pool. And now, it was up to Jenkins to make it happen. [NPCs - PO2 Roland L. Jenkins, Louisa Keltner, PhD, & Englebert Keltner - Louisa Keltner's Office]Roland entered Keltner's office, to find Niles standing there, and promptly received a slew of orders. "Sir, just keep in mind, I'm not Lt. Henriksen. I'm a bit slower," he said apologetically. Mabel was, in her own way, legendary, a lightning-fast typist and worker. With some taps on his PADD, he set the colony's central computer to work matching entry and exit logs with surveillance footage. The cameras had limited coverage, but there was some. "The comparison will take a few minutes.""Englebert is my idiot brother," Louisa pointed out, finding it worth her while to be helpful. Then, Jenkins got the message from the captain. "It seems Ms. Sh'qaleq is done. The credential used was the victim's own."Into the office strolled a middle-aged man of average built. "Bert.""Lou."There was no love lost between this duo. "Mr. Keltner, maybe you can answer a few questions for us."

[NPCs - Lt. j.g. Mabel Henriksen & Simkha Rif - Infirmary, Colony, LZ-2]Mabel thought there was something not quite right about a civilian walking into an autopsy, but the doctor allowed it, so she didn't intervene. Simkha, likewise, stood back. Then, it was all over. "Happy festival, sir. I'll let you know if the Captain needs anything more," the young woman said, as she bowed out. "Happy holiday, Doctor," Simkha echoed, as he washed his hands.

[Lt. Paawin Riyo - Kerelia Colony LZ-2 - Infirmary]
The autopsy complete, the report filed, and the body closed up and moved to cryo... He could finally get out of here. The others wishing him a 'happy holiday' barely received a grunted 'thanks', as he really couldn't consider this much of a holiday anymore. Lea and the kids would be waiting for him at the plaza by now... but he couldn't join them just yet, not with his head in the space it was. So after cleaning up and leaving the infirmary, he turned the opposite direction - towards the coast. The brisk, salty air soon replaced the stench of death and chemicals, and before long he found himself on an outcropping overlooking the shore. With a heavy sigh, he let his body relax, his gaze drifting out to the horizon as he released his hold on the emotions he'd been barely able to restrain. The anger swirled within him, and he reached down to scoop up a handful of rocks. He shuffled them between his hands a few times as he straightened, before selecting one and tossing it as hard as he could towards the sea.

[ Kova Sh'qaleq - N 3rd St. --> Plaza, Colony, LZ-2, Kerelia] As Kova settled among her... friends.... That's what they were, weren't they? She'd spent a considerable amount of time distancing herself from so many, that it suddenly dawned upon her how comfortable she felt around each of them: Charlie... Syl... and Shavan. His agreeable grin to her suggestion of catching up on their expected pace even cause her own lips to curl slightly. Though, was it that comment, or their earlier conversation. As Syl mentioned she was planning to be a bottle in by the time that Kova arrived, a slight chuckle left her lips. "Sounds like the pace is set then," Kova remarked. Charlie began to pour their drinks and inquired if she had finished working with Eastman. As she proposed the drinking game, Syl asked if the shower of compliments that Charlie had mentioned actually happened. "Ad nauseam," Kova replied. "And to answer your question, I am done... literally. I suppose as security consultants go, I'm now a free agent."The now jobless Andorian took a drink of the wine, and was convinced she'd get more of a buzz from water alone. "I take it Warp Age Design isn't an attractive prospect?" she asked casually, though her eyes were directed at Shavan, knowing that he had been speaking with Dr. Keltner when she'd left him before.

[NPC - Crewman Ezra Mora - N 3rd St., Colony, LZ-2, Kerelia] "Later, kid," was Ezra's only comment as the captain asked that they take their discussion outside. He gave a curt nod in Max's direction as well. "Sir." He then made his way back outdoors, allowing the captain a few personal moments with her family before she joined him out there. Once she was there, she revealed additional facts about Murra. The man was a war criminal and in high demand for more reasons than one. It definitely brought more players into the game, but her vetting the print through Starfleet Intelligence was certainly a start. He then heard Kova report that it had been Murra's code that had been used on the crane. When asked for his opinion, Mora paused to consider it. "I think it begs the question of what he was even doing there at that time of night to begin with," Ezra stated. "Maybe he wanted to finish something before Bajoran eyes were laid on him... or maybe he was there to meet someone. I just doubt that he'd give his access codes with his dying breaths." Ezra folded his arms over his chest. "He either entered his codes before being killed... which begs the question: why? Or, whoever killed him had his code." That last question suggested one of two things: someone stole his codes, or Murra had shared it with them willingly.

Almost too much so at this point in time, that Engelbert Keltner just walked in just as he was about to be sought out for some questions. And, just to make things interesting, it seemed that the putatively good doctor had a few things to say about her brother; well, at least it was a relief that it was not a husband, or worse, a son, who had to be spoken to at this point. Though first, Niles nodded to Jenkins. "Well done, PO. Let me know when the analysis is run, but if you have a positive ID on anyone who was on the scene at the time of death, that's a priority."Jenkins was bloody smart, and having a mind of his caliber as an administrative assistant was... a bit of a waste so far as one Joshua Niles was concerned; with skills like that, he could easily find a home as an operations manager just about anywhere in Starfleet, or in the private sector where he could command some serious wages. However, he wasn't about to fault him his career choice at this time. Turning his attention to the computer support Keltner, Niles, once more, displayed his Starfleet credentials, but rather than return the simple fold back to his hip pocket, he hung it from his outer jacket pocket next to his commbadge, if only to appease any individuals who were of a mind that no uniform meant one was not with Starfleet. "Mister Keltner, I'm Lieutenant Niles, Starfleet Security, and I'm investigating the death of one Doctor Murra. I have some questions for you."Now, his tone was far more measured than it had been with the putatively good doctor, but some strain from that previous interaction remained in evidence. "I'm given to understand you are the head of computer support services for Warp Ages Designs. First question I need to ask you, why was a visiting Vedek granted full administrative access to your system, and who did that? Second question, what sort of credentials are used to log in to one's administrative role, and how are they secured from unauthorized usage?"Now, some of those answers he expected would be duplicated by Jenkins' own efforts on his behalf, but one basic rule of investigation was that no single piece of information, especially from questioning, could be taken at face value and needed corroboration. And if there was a discrepancy between what the computer was saying, and what answers he would be getting, that would certainly develop further leads.

Let's see what's up there."She looked through the reading segment of her glasses, pulling the information up on her PADD with a number of swipes. "He did have an 0400 appointment, but there's no info about it."Her PADD buzzed at this point. "It appears we don't have any individual name to pull, but we do have a decent match for the species. There's an 97% likelihood that the prints were made by a person of Bajoran descent, either a full Bajoran or a hybrid."With a succession of taps and swipes, she passed the information to her assistants as well. "None of which answers the matter of his credentials."

Tag Joshua Niles [ LT Joshua Niles - N 3rd St, Colony, LZ-2, Kerelia ]Niles nodded when the computer support specialist offered to accept a less formal mode of address. In a way, that did put the Lieutenant a little more at ease now that he was fairly certain he would not be dealing with nearly as prickly a person, but that also meant he may have to be vigilant about getting too comfortable around him either. And just now, he found himself understanding one of the things that made him glad he'd specialized in Tactical rather than Security: at least with Tac he didn't have to be wary of everyone he was dealing with and wondering if they had hidden motives. And he certainly knew he was hardly the best at sussing those out! However, as information came at him with regards to how administrative access was secured, Niles started finding some serious flaws in it; if all that was required was an authorized tricorder and a biometric scan to gain access with no further safeguards, that meant one could log in under duress, or even if unconscious. That was a major vulnerability all right. Though, when he saw the message from the Captain, his questions about the Vedek became even more pressing. Just as his need for somewhere to work, given just how much in a hurry to get rid of everyone Doctor Keltner was. However, before he could address that, the nature of the log-in system could be truly a key to crime all right. =A= "Niles to Captain Eastman. Ma'am, I'm currently speaking with the head of computer support here, and seems like administrative access is based solely on connecting an approved tricorder to a console and a biometric scans grants access. I'll have to look into it some more; if there are no duress provisions in place, that could explain how Doctor Murra's codes were used on the crane. In the meantime I'll action what you've sent Jenkins and I will advise when I have more. Niles out."With that report given, he needed to order his thoughts some more, and once his plan found itself revised, he returned his attention to Jenkins. "PO, based on the information you've just shown me, revise and refine the search, if you please." Well, that would narrow down the list of primary suspects all right. "Mister... Bert, thank you for that information. Now, if you wouldn't mind, could you PO Jenkins and I to somewhere we could work and possibly meet people, starting with you as I have more questions?"

[ Shavan Th’zhaar - Plaza, Kerelia Colony] Shavan accepted a glass from Charlie, then snorted in amusement as the conversation turned to the lighter topic of the ridiculous mugs and continued at Captain Eastman’s expense. “This will be gone in no time,” he replied to the comments about the drinking game. Of course, that was the idea. He took a long drink of the springwine. At Kova’s question about Warp Age Designs, he shrugged. “It sounded attractive enough, if you want to risk being the next murder victim. I didn’t hear much before security came to talk to her.” In truth, it might not actually be the worst idea, especially if she was really done with Starfleet. Which was not exactly surprising to hear. [NPC - Crewman Ezra Mora - N 3rd St., Colony, LZ-2, Kerelia] Several facts came to light as Captain Eastman took advantage of several of the resources at her disposal. One of them being Murra's calendar. It seemed he had actually scheduled a meeting for 0400 hours. "If there was any doubt, it definitely more and more like this was premeditated since the killer knew Murra would be there." It was still possible something sparked and Murra was killed in the heat of the moment, but Ezra wasn't readily convinced of that... especially with the use of the crane. There were better ways to hide a body than in plain sight. It soon became apparent that the prints on the tricorder belonged to someone of Bajoran descent. "Bajoran?" he repeated. If they were aware of whom Murra was then it made sense it would be a Bajoran. "Perhaps we should look into which of the Bajorans here lived in the province Murra was stationed at during the Occupation," the engineer suggested. Of course, his mind began to wonder as he stared off into the distance. Where the hell was Rimi? Perhaps she had wondered off with Kova, or gone off to visit one of the shops or something. There wasn't much trouble she could get into on this planet. And surely, she couldn't stir the ire of a murderer. Yet, the sign of Ezra anxiously biting at his lower lip was a testament of how well he truly knew his daughter.

[ LT Joshua Niles - N 3rd St, Colony, LZ-2, Kerelia ] =A= "Niles to Captain Eastman. Niles out." It was a worthy line of inquiry, anyway. =A= "Eastman to Henriksen. Eastman out." =A= "Turns out the tricorders are used to scan user biometrics to access these parts of the system," she told Ezra. And yet, as a mother, and especially as a mother whose older children were now parents themselves, she could tell her subordinate's mind was elsewhere. There was no mistaking it. "You have children running around here, don't you?"

[ LT Joshua Niles - N 3rd St, Colony, LZ-2, Kerelia ]Niles nodded when the computer support specialist offered to accept a less formal mode of address. Now, if you wouldn't mind, could you PO Jenkins and I to somewhere we could work and possibly meet people, starting with you as I have more questions?" [NPCs - PO2 Roland L. Jenkins & Englebert Keltner - Louisa Keltner's Office -> Grandview Conference Room]"I'll show you to a conference room," Englebert answered, and walked them up the stairs to the third floor's pompously named Grandview conference room. It had a suitably grand view, looking over Research Boulevard towards the sea. "Let's start at the beginning: where were you last night?" Jenkins took the lead on interrogating. "My apartment, with the missus. It's a so-so alibi, but it's what I have."

{Quotes} [Ens. I didn’t hear much before security came to talk to her.” In truth, it might not actually be the worst idea, especially if she was really done with Starfleet. Which was not exactly surprising to hear. [Charlie Fox - Plaza, LZ-2]Charlie laughed at Syl's idea to buy a few Emissary mugs as thank you gifts, thinking it was a brilliant idea. She continued pouring, and when everyone had a drink in front of them, she sat down to try her own. It wouldn't leave her wasted in a ditch somewhere, but on a sunny day in a plaza it would certainly do. "They do," she confirmed along with Kova in response to Syl's question about the brown-nosing of the Eastman-Williams pod people. "It's like they're all brainwashed or something." Charlie shuddered. She had some experience of close families, the kind who supported one another and said nice things, but she'd never witnessed quite so many people quite so obsessed with one person before. Perhaps if the woman wasn't Starfleet, and perhaps if Charlie and the people she was sharing wine with at that moment hadn't been left in a prison for a month, she might have given them all the benefit of the doubt. Or maybe not; she was self-aware enough to know that she was a very judgmental person. She grinned a cheeky grin at Shavan when he proclaimed that there'd be nothing left of their springwine if they were to completely embrace the spirit of the game. "I'll drink to that." She took another long gulp as she listened to the exchange about Warp Age Designs. "You could consult," she said, glancing between the two Andorians. She wondered if Shavan would ever seriously consider officially leaving the fleet. "No need to tie yourselves to one organisation." Charlie had contracted Kova before through the FNN, she saw no reason that the specialist couldn't become one of their go-to contractors for certain tasks.

Tag Joshua Niles [ LT Joshua Niles - Grandview Conference Room, Colony Ops Building, LZ-2, Kerelia ]The conference room they were shown to certainly had a pompous name all right. Though, considering just how few such facilities there were at the colony at this time, naming it at all spoke of someone with such an ego that if it had gravity it would be giving the Messier 87 supermassive black hole a run for its money in terms of event horizon! However, it was a place to work, and at least the view lived up to its name, so there was that. Between what he now knew, and the information from the Old Lady, Niles was starting to work on a plan of attack for the investigation. Now, once Jenkins' algorithms would be done crunching data, it would generate a solid, and hopefully manageable, suspect pool, though when the Petty Officer took the lead in the investigation, the Tactical Officer said nothing, but picked up right after Keltner's response. "We will be verifying your alibi through every mean at our disposal as a matter of due diligence, of course," replied Josh; after all, someone was dead, and barring corroborated truly exculpatory evidence, no one could be ruled out just yet. "Now, I have two streams of questioning for you. First, Doctor Murra, the victim, did you know him? And did the have any enemies that you know of? Second, I need to know more about Vedek Dima. You said you did not grant him administrative access; as the head of computer support, can you tell me who authorized it?"Then, Niles thought of something. "Mister Jenkins, can you bring up a log of what the Vedek has been up within the system, or is that something that will require a higher degree of access?"Incongruities, that was where he needed to focus his efforts for the time being. But first, he had to define them and find the right angle of attack to properly investigate them. Otherwise, it was all speculation.
