Two weeks following the closing events of Catching the Chain. The Caldonia 5 have since escaped The Pit, the prison and labour camp in which they'd been imprisoned for approximately four weeks. They approach Front Ear Station. “It's a funny thing about comin' home. Looks the same, smells the same, feels the same. You'll realize what's changed is you.” ― F. Scott Fitzgerald. [Charlie Fox - Stolen Transport Erudite]It hung in the blackness of space like a tiny ornament. Charlie stared at it, frowning, pushing herself to feel the normal, expected emotions. None came. It was just an installation in the middle of the quadrant, nothing special. There was no fanfare that accompanied her first sighting of Front Ear Station, only a vague feeling of something ending. She exhaled in a snort. "What, no red carpet?" And then she stretched out against a bulkhead and closed her eyes. Exhaustion, along with the other four people in that shuttle, had been her constant companion these last couple of months, and on the journey home she'd frequently succumbed to its demands. [Lieutenant Doug Dimmadome & Ensign Ev'ewa, daughter of K'turtang - Operations, Front Ear Station]0435 HRS"Contact!" Announced Dimmadome, before sitting up to position at such a speed that whiplash wouldn't have been out of the question. "Likely just debris," the klingon on the other side of the Communications Center said, flicking another discarded sweet wrapper against a console six feet away out of sheer boredom. "Or Nybbies." Swish. Petty Officer Grek really should clean up after himself at the end of his shift. "Same thing.""No... no it's not Nybbies." Doug Dimmadome's nervous voice sounded more bewildered than usual, which managed to catch Ev'ewa's attention. She grunted a wordless question. "It's a shuttle, small, transport probably. It's... No, that can't be right.""Stop your useless rambling, old man!" Finally, the ensign turned the full force of her stare on her own console, ready and willing to take her boredom out on her superior. Her expression changed quickly however, when she saw what Dimmadome was seeing. "It's Caldonian.""H-How... What?""Inform the Captain!""M-Me? But it's 4:30 in the morning!""Yes, you, k'pekt![fn]insult[/fn] daH![fn]Now![/fn]" Useless human. Ev'ewa immediately opened up a channel. =/\= "Unidentified Caldonian vessel. This is the Front Ear Station. You are on approach, identify yourselves immediately!" =/\= Meanwhile, with much less gusto, Lt. Dimmadome contacted the Captain. =/\= "Ops to Captain Eastman. Ah, Captain, um, this is Lt. Doug Dimmadome, in... in Ops. We have a Caldonian vessel on approach, Captain and we, ah, I, thought you might like to know. Thank you, Captain. G-Good morning." =/\=

[Ens. Syl O'Connell - Stolen Transport EruditeShe sat in the cockpit, staring out at the station that loomed before them. It seemed like a lifetime ago since she'd last made this approach. Almost like it was a vid she had watched. Charlie's sarcasm pulled her out of her thoughts, and a wry grin lifted her lips. "Maybe they put blankets in the brig for us." They still didn't know exactly what type of situation they'd be flying in to, but even a brig and court martial was better than where they had been. The console beside her chimed, followed by the slightly aggressive voice from the station. Her lips quirked coyly as she hit the button to reply. "Front Ear Station, this is Caldonian Transport Erudite." She had found the name whilst perusing the former pilot's logs out of boredom. "Requesting permission to dock. The crew is in need of shore leave and medical attention." Might as well have a little fun with it. Normally she would have let Matt or Shavan answer, but the cockpit was quite small and she didn't need them reaching over her. If the station chose to make visual contact, they'd be able to see her clearly. Her black hair was matted to her skull, her skin several shades darker than it had been before - though how much of that waa from the blazing Caldonian sun, and how much was the layers of dirt and trillium dust she hadn't had a chance to shower off was anyone's guess. Her cheeks were gaunt, though thanks to the supplies sent over by the Gorgon she no longer had the sickly look of fever and infection. But as she looked at the screen awaiting a response, there was an emptiness in her hazel eyes that hadn't been there before.

In her dream, Judy found herself on a porch, somewhere, observing spectacular mountains all around her, punctuated with flocks of sheep. She was at peace, calm, and calmer still when she turned her head to see Max beside her. And then, that peace was punctured by the most annoying beep of all... [Capt. Judith Eastman(-Williams), PhD & Max Williams - Eastman-Williams Quarters, Front Ear Station]Judy was jolted awake by the combadge, a particular form of awakening she would forever associate with her wartime service. A Caldonian vessel? On approach? Her brain booted up. =A= "What more do we know about it?" =A= she asked, sounding quite groggy, as she put on her glasses and housecoat. Taking the combadge in her hand, she approached her closet to get a uniform. Max, waking up, gave her an unmistakably worried look, and she looked sadly at him.

[ Shavan Th’zhaar - Transport Erudite] It was strange, seeing Front Ear getting nearer on the view screen after all this time. Even now that the moment was finally here, Shavan wasn't completely sure what to feel about it, if anything. Syl took the initiative of answering the hail, which was just as well, because he was suddenly at a loss for what to say to the crew member on the other end. He glanced at her with faint surprise as she chose not to reveal who they were, but he supposed it didn't really matter. “I wonder if they’ll be more or less welcoming if they think we’re really Caldonians,” he replied with a bitter laugh. It was probably the former. With no need to get up just yet, he leaned back against the metal wall, as usual during the uneventful two weeks they’d spent confined to the small transport. [Thea & Isaiah's Quarters - Front Ear] At first Thea thought she was dreaming until her brain caught up with what was happening and realised that the call from Dimmadome was actually real. Being careful not to wake Isaiah, Thea grabbed her commbadge and snuck into the bathroom. =/\= Acknowledged Ops, have them beamed to Sickbay, the moment that the shuttle docks =/\= Having the crew that had been taken on Caldonia return to the station was definitely a reason to be joyous. However it wasn't going to be easy for any of them, especially after the way the Mac had been forced to leave Charlie and the others to the mercy of the Caldonian justice system or lack of. Thea also knew how this had affected Judy and yet the priority for now was to get them the help that they needed and that meant being there to welcome them as soon as they arrived. If Ops had informed her, then they would of also notified Judy and with that in mind, Thea quickly dressed and left a note for Isaiah before leaving to head directly to Sickbay. =/\= Thea to Judy, I'm heading to Sickbay and have told Ops to beam the shuttle occupants there once the shuttle docks =/\=

[Matthew Harmon - Transport Erudite]
While the medical supplies from the Gorgon had kept him alive, Harmon was still in a very bad shape. Without the timely appearance of the captain Harmon later discovered was Kova's mother, it was likely he would have died of his injuries. He was still in need of medical attention from a proper medical facility. He felt guilty for being out of commission at that crucial time, but the others, Shavan especially, had handled it very well. He was proud, but the guilt he carried with him for all the trouble he caused was unlikely to ever disappear. While Harmon was prepared to find a way to allow them to disappear from Starfleet's radar, they had decided to face the music. He still wasn't sure what was awaiting the group, but he was determined to do everything he could to ensure he bore the brunt of any disciplinary action. He just hoped the others didn't decide to go for a "I am Spartacus" moment.
"I hope sickbay has a good drinks menu," he said weakly from the back of the shuttle as they approached the station for the first time in what felt like years.

[ Kova Sh'qaleq - Transport Erudite ] Kova stared at the sight of the station. There certainly didn't seem to be any additional fanfare, and the Andorian hadn't been expecting it. In fact, she chose to share that sentiment with her companions. "I think the opportunity for red carpets and parades left with the Gorgon," she said. Kova doubted Charlie of all people was expecting such a fuss. Though, Kova didn't think they'd shove them in a brig either. If that were the case, her shreya would have taken them into custody when she had given them the opportunity to come aboard. Kova listened as Syl made the call, requesting permission to dock. She then heard Shavan's comment wondering if they'd be more accommodating to actual Caldonians. "Possibly, if they believed it would improve their trillium negotiations," Kova added. "However, unannounced... if they haven't scanned us, they're probably wondering what the hell we're doing here." Her mind attempted to pull together what time it was aboard the station. She was pulled from her thoughts when Matthew mentioned the drinks menu in Sickbay. "Someone is feeling like his old self already, and we haven't even docked yet."

"Five life signs," she reported to Dimmadome as she activated and focused the sensors. The klingon narrowed her eyes when she realised that there were six bodies on the shuttle. "Requesting visual."Meanwhile, Doug had yet to respond to the Captain. He'd waited as long as possible, unsure as to how exactly he could report this. He realised then that there was nothing for it other than to tell the truth. =/\= "Five life signs, Captain. And they are... Well, they are sassing us."The viewscreen blinked to life, showing the inside of the errant shuttle Erudite. =/\= "Sirs, it's them." =/\= Ev'ewa glowered at the screen, though inside she was marveling at the prospect of the many songs that could be sung of the survival of these nobodies, and their daring escape. =/\= "Permission to dock granted, transferring docking instructions now. He hissed at Ev'ewa when she turned to glare at him and his emotions.

[Ens. Syl O'Connell - Stolen Transport Erudite]Muting their side of the open com channel after stating her request, she grinned at Shavan's musing. He realized why she hadn't been immediately forthcoming about their identities. The initial reactions that greeted them upon visual contact would tell them all they needed to know about how welcome they were there. Matt's comment about a drink menu in Sickbay increased her grin, and Syl looked over her shoulder at him. "Are you buying the second round?" She asked playfully. "I feel like Eastman owes us the first one."She turned back to face her console just as the light blinked requesting visual. With a flip of a switch, the screen revealed Front Ear's Ops... Filled with unfamiliar faces. Judging by the stunned stares and moment of silence, they all knew exactly who they were though. A female Klingon glared at her before granting permission to dock and stating they would be transported to Sickbay. Then the Lieutenant sitting in the Command chair welcomed them home, voice strained with emotion. It was better than being turned away. "Acknowledged, instructions received." Syl replied, once more assuming her professional tone groomed in the Academy. "Initiating docking procedures." Cutting the com link, she guided the shuttle around to the indicated docking bay. Thankfully the long trip had given her plenty of time to become more familiar with the Caldonian controls, and she set down with barely more of a bump than a Starfleet shuttle. True to their word, she had barely finished powering down the engines when the world around her began to fade, and when it came back into clarity she was sitting on a bio bed in the sterile grey Sickbay. The sudden rush of clean air into her lungs caused her head to spin, and she squeezed her eyes shut against the sudden wave of nausea and resisted the urge to lie down. There would undoubtedly be plenty of time for them to rest later. They were finally home.

[ Shavan Th'zhaar - Transport Erudite -> Sickbay, Front Ear Station] “I'm glad to hear I’m not the only one with the right priorities. And adding a bar to sickbay is the least they can do,” Shavan replied to Matt and Syl's comments about drinks with a grin. That was when a response came from the station. Suddenly the Ops crew knew who they were, and they were landing in the familiar docking port. The shuttle dissolved around him, replaced by Front Ear's sickbay, and any more teasing remarks were momentarily forgotten. Whatever happened later… they were really here. They were really back. He could only imagine what he must look like to the crew on the station. Gaunt and lacking a certain vitality, like the others. And any medical scan would reveal the injuries in various partial states of healing, that had resulted from being beaten and shocked over and over again. However, it was with a wary determination that Shavan watched the door to Sickbay for the arrival of whoever came through to meet them. Matthew Harmon Kova Sh'qaleq Charlie Fox Syl O'Connell

[Primary Sickbay - Front Ear] Her journey to Sickbay had turned into a sprint the moment, that the lift doors opened and she received confirmation from Ops. Glad that her and Isaiah still kept up with their twice weekly runs as the last she wanted was to show up wheezing or with a stitch in her side. Plus there was a sense of urgency that pushed through everything else. The names of the Caldonia Five swirled around her mind, preparing herself for their reaction to seeing her and the myriad of emotions that they would naturally be experiencing. Entering Sickbay, Thea called to the staff that weren't occupied with other patients, briefing them quickly as the sound of the transporter filled the room. Five figures then materialised onto bio beds, giving Thea the first glimpse of those who the Mac had been forced to abandon. Charlie, Shavan, Harmon, Kova and Syl were actually here and it wasn't some kind of dream as various nurses began to make them comfortable. " Welcome home to all of you" Thea began sincerely as she looked at each individual. Visually assessing them before the scans started. " I'm sure you'll have questions and want answers but my priority at the moment, is to make sure that your all given the treatment and recovery that you need".Thea then turned to her staff, " Let's begin with IV's of fluids, get their electrolytes up" she instructed as the scans started giving her data. Malnourished, injuries that hadn't healed properly were things she could deal with but none of them would be going anywhere until they were ready too as this wasn't something that could be rushed.

[ Kova Sh'qaleq - Sickbay ] Shortly after docking, Kova felt herself being transported. The interior of the Erudite gave way to familiar image of the station's sickbay. Kova could see all the uniformed nurses moving towards them. Kova began to wonder if they thought this was some sort of holographic simulation as well, with both groups believing the others to be holograms. Then, came the redhead... Baker. It seemed to track that they'd send in the one that hadn't been present during their capture to what... smooth things over. Kova's thoughts then went to her own hair, after studying the redhead's mane. She could only imagine what she looked like. The one things he was certain of was that her ivory hair probably had a dusty, lackluster look to it. As one of the nurses reached for Kova's hand to adminster an IV, the Andorian jerked her hand away. There was still something uncomfortable about someone else touching her. She finally relented, allowing the nurse to do as she had been instructed, but watching carefully and making no effort to hide her scrutiny. So, this was their welcome home? Ushered out of sight before anyone else could lay eyes upon them.

[Charlie Fox - Sickbay, Front Ear]Olsen secured himself into Charlie's palm just as the transporter beam was activated. She rematerialized in Sickbay and she couldn't help but cringe away from the large room and the too many people. She swatted at a nurse; much like Kova she reacted to the stranger's presence and touch. She pushed herself off the biobed, feeling affronted that they'd been imprisoned for so long, and stranded for half that time again in a tiny matchbox puttering through space, only to be talking about electrolytes. She released Olsen and directed him toward the medical staff. The drone began transferring data of all of the medical attention each had received and given to each other in the last two weeks, what medications had been used, what injuries they'd tried to manage. "He got shot," she said matter-of-factly, pointing at Matthew. "She got stabbed with a homemade shiv," she twisted to point in turn at Syl. "She got beaten to half-death." Kova, who she'd been torn away from after the run in with Solin, and then lastly, Shavan. "And I don't know how he's still upright, protecting us, but he is."Electrolytes! Pah!An acute dizzy spell overtook her, but Charlie stayed where she was, frowning for all that she was worth, a tiny slip of a thing with hands on hips and looking like a strong breeze would knock her over.

=/\= "Five life signs, Captain. And they are... Well, they are sassing us."The viewscreen blinked to life, showing the inside of the errant shuttle Erudite. =/\= "Sirs, it's them." =/\= [Capt. Judith Eastman(-Williams), PhD & Max Williams - Eastman-Williams Quarters]As she realized what the lieutenant was trying to communicate, Judy found her legs feeling quite wobbly. She was overwhelmed by emotions: relief and joy, but more than that, guilt and shame. Max could tell. "What's the matter?" he asked. "They're back," she answered, her voice trembling. "Alive."The chef knew his wife's emotional struggles, the way she cursed herself for letting them go on this mission without any scrutiny, and for leaving them behind (under orders, sure, but that excuse didn't hold water to her). He left the bed to approach her, putting his arm around her waist. "And you don't know how to face them."She nodded. "Just be honest with them, my love. There's nothing else to do.""They'll hate me, and they have every right to," she pointed out shakily. "That's their choice, but you're a strong woman; you'll go on."She sighed, appreciating his attempt but not quite sold. "Why don't you go freshen up a bit?" he suggested, taking the edge off the conversation for a moment. [Capt. Judith Eastman(-Williams), PhD - Sickbay, Front Ear Station]Judy entered Primary Sickbay, a study in dissonance. Outwardly, her appearance was immaculate: hair, makeup, and uniform all in order, with a flattering pair of cat-eye glasses resting on her nose. However, internally, she still wanted to curl up into a ball. How could she look them in the eye? How could she continue to lead them (or at least, the three that wore the uniform)? All the progress of therapy seemed to be wiped away now, as she strode uncertainly into Sickbay. And then she saw them: five sickly, gaunt, miserable bodies, and her heart seemed to burst. "I'm sorry," she uttered, softly and shakily. Her hands trembled before her, and both her cheeks and her nose flushed red. "I'm so, so sorry."A tear streaked down her cheek - the first, but probably not the last.

[Matthew Harmon - Sickbay]
Not long after they had approached the station, they found themselves materialising in Sickbay. They were back. It was strange being back, what did people think had happened? How much trouble were they in? Federation prisoners were nicer than Caldonian ones, but prison was prison. He didn't have any intention of living the rest of his life behind bars.
They were quickly greeted by Thea, it was nice to see a familiar face, though he scowled at the suggestion of being plugged into IVs. "I thought we'd escaped the torture," he said, half jokingly. Needles were not fun. He could drink a few bottles of water on his own. When Charlie explained his injuries he nodded. "It's not good doctor," he said stoically. "Just make sure you put me under if you're going to use anything sharp," he said as he made his way towards a biobed to sit down on.
The Captain then entered and she was arguably in a worse state. Her usual stiff upper lip seemed to have disappeared. That was sure to be a bad thing for the morale of everyone involved. "Chin up, ma'am," he said. It wasn't her fault, none of it was. They knew the risks when the set off. He was sure she had done whatever she could have. The reality was a few officers and two civilians were not as important to Starfleet as the tense diplomatic game. "You owe us a round of drinks."
