[Capt. Judith Eastman(-Williams), PhD & Max Williams - Park, Front Ear Station]As usual, Judy and Max took their dogs for an early morning walk. Most of the station was asleep, but here they were, with two leashed corgis. The couple were clad in casual attire - she in a knee-length pink dress with short sleeves, he in jeans and a red polo shirt. Suddenly, the dogs tugged the couple, towards a gentleman who was off to the side. The dogs were small, but their leashes long, so they could go quite far. "Stop it!""Down!"The dogs complied, but by now, they had pulled rather close to the man, making it a bit too awkward to just move on without a word. "Sorry about that," a somewhat flustered Judy said. "I hope we didn't disturb you too much."

[ Myker Vulbrix - Park, Front Ear Station] Myker had taken a liking to the park on the station, it had enough noise around that it wouldn't bother him but there was enough space that if he chose not to interact with people it was avoidable. There was even times when there were little enough people in the area that could release some of the shielding he had over his mind and let himself 'read' the world around him. It's why the telepath chose the early mornings to make use of the park, the risk of his mind drifting into others or their mind into his was greatly reduced. Myker had opted for casual attire for his walk, he was aiming to stretch out his legs a little after having spent the last few hours reading about an ancient language. It was a topic that was fascinating to the Betazoid. His dress was more human than one might've expected, dark jeans and a black t-shirt. It was comfortable but not overly casual. Myk hadn't been walking fast, he wasn't in a hurry so the little dogs didn't have to exert much effort to cross his path. His mind was free so even before the dogs had pulled their owners into close range his mind knew they were there and Myk quickly had to reign in his mind and the shielding he'd been trained to use quickly went into force leaving the man a little stunned, it took him a moment to realize he'd been spoken to. He glanced down at the dogs again, and then shook his head gently, " Not at all" he responded a little later than was probably normal but at least he had responded. He wouldn't want to come across as rude, especially with how flustered the woman was, he hoped she was reassured that their short legged companions hadn't disturbed him. Are they friendly? He asked, one could never tell and without his usual ability's to read the animals he wasn't so sure. He took a step back from the dogs just incase they weren't he didn't want to find himself surprised by a dog biting. Judith Eastman

[Capt. Judith Eastman(-Williams), PhD & Max Williams - Park]"Yes, yes, they're quite friendly," Judy answered, as graciously as she could. Slowly, the couple realized that the man didn't recognize Judy - a rarity for a Captain on her own station, and a pleasant (if always brief) thing. "I'm Max, and this is my wife, Judy," Max introduced them both, offering a handshake. "What's your name?"The dogs, seeing the change in their humans' stance, sniffed curiously at Myk.

[ Myker Vulbrix - Park, Front Ear Station] With confirmation the dogs are friendly, Myk simply nodded. He didn't move to pet the dogs, preferring to remain above their level for now. He wasn't afraid of the short legged animals but he wasn't altogether comfortable with them. All animals were just that, animals and could be unpredictable especially with people or species they didn't recognize or trust. From what Myk knew about dogs, they could be rather defensive should they sense a threat. Although these dogs just looked like stuffed toys, hardly like they could harm a soul. In his hurry to shield his mind from unwanted interactions with theirs Myk hadn't been paying attention to the couple, not close enough to realize this was the Captain of the station. His attention quickly shifted from the dogs and returned his focus back on the couple as the gentleman introduced himself and then his wife. Oh goodness. My apologies Captain Eastman. Myk finally caught up to who exactly he was talking too, I am Myker...Myker Vulbrix...Sir. He wasn't sure if that was how one would address the Captain's husband but it felt appropriate to the Betazoid. He shook the mans hand straightening up somewhat more now that he was in the presence of a Captain. The number of diplomats he met with his mother as boy didn't help him here, as he made a blunder of this interaction. He looked down again at the dogs, shifting slightly when they sniffed him. [Capt. Judith Eastman(-Williams), PhD & Max Williams - Park]And just so soon, it was over. Judy had been recognized, and, like so many who bumped into her off-shift, Myker was quite awkward. "At ease, Myker. I'm not really one for formality, especially when I'm just out walking the dogs."She chuckled gently. "If anything, I should be apologizing to you, what with these two hooligans."The dogs were still behaving themselves, not jumping or begging. Max was keeping an eye on them, to see if that stayed the case.

He couldn't help the awkwardness that ensued. He was generally bad with people, people who outranked him well that was worse. It wasn't that he was intimidated either, it was merely that he wished to extend to everyone the courtesy they deserved and those in ranks above him should be treated as such. Judy's words did have the Betazoid relaxing, although his posture remained ridgid. He nodded in response, "As you wish" he said although he didn't smile his tone was friendly and a little less strained than a moment ago. The mention of dogs Myker studied them for a moment, "They're alright. They were investigating, making sure you're not in danger." he said then looked back at the Captain. "An excellent choice, intelligent and loyal." he noted to her. He read a lot, so he knew that without ever owning a dog. The dogs weren't a bother now and seemed fairly content, or at least Myk assumed that's what he'd get if he were to read their emotional state. Judith Eastman

[Capt. Judith Eastman(-Williams), PhD & Max Williams - Park]Judy could pick up on a somewhat less tense mood, though not quite as relaxed as she wanted. "Oh, these two are troublemakers," Max said, as he crouched over to scratch one behind the ear. "They're clever all right, but they're incorrigible thieves."He was affectionate in this. "They're called Bridge and Tunnel," Judy added, pointing to each dog in turn with her left index finger. The dogs each glanced at their owner briefly.

[ Myker Vulbrix - Park, Front Ear Station] Myk remained a little on edge, mostly because this was the Captain and therefore outranked him. He was also generally bad at talking and interacting with people. Myk once again looked at the two dogs as Max scratched them. The animal seemed to enjoy it, seeing the interaction between dog and owner confirmed to Myk that both dog and owner adored one another. Bridge and Tunnel. Myk repeated looking at the dogs, he was certainly more curious about what was going on between their fuzzy ears. He slowly let the shielding he'd carefully put in place. They're very content, they feel safe with you. He said looking to Judy, May I? Myk asked gesturing to the dog, he simply wanted to pet them and didn't think clarification was needed. They also didn't feel threatened by him...at least not yet so he figured it was safe to touch them. Possibly. Some nervousness persisted, the dogs weren't as predictable as their humans and even if he could read their emotions, it was rarely linear like humanoid species.

[Capt. Judith Eastman(-Williams), PhD & Max Williams - Park]"Oh, sure, go for it," Judy answered. "In fact, let's have a seat on that bench, shall we? My joints aren't what they used to be."She led them to a nearby bench, and then sat down, with Max joining her. The dogs came along: Tunnel sat up vigilantly, while Bridge lay down on his back, inviting belly rubs. "I take it you're new to the station?" the Captain asked, curiously.

[ Myker Vulbrix - Park, Front Ear Station] At the suggestion of a seat Myker nodded and followed the woman. Although older himself, his species lived somewhat longer than humans and therefore he didn't have the same complaints as many humans his age would. Myker didn't sit quiet yet, opting to squat down and tickle the dogs belly, intrigued by the way the two behaved so differently. His eyes fixed on the dog for now, head cocking slightly to the side in curiosity. When Judy asked her a question Myk simply nodded, forgetting his actual words for the moment because of the dogs capturing his attention. Judith Eastman

[Capt. Judith Eastman(-Williams), PhD & Max Williams - Park]Judy accepted the nod, seeing the lull in conversation in this moment as, perhaps, inevitable. Dogs were, after all, more engaging than people. "Tunnel," she summoned the more timid corgi closer to her. "Tunnel, down."The dog complied; Judy then took off her left sandal, and with her foot, gave the little creature a belly rub. Tunnel received this happily, occasionally licking the foot. "They love legs and feet," Max explained to Myker. "I don't understand it, but dogs exist to amuse us with their absurd little tics.""These two are particularly ridiculous," Judy added. "They know that the more they act dumb, the more the grandkids laugh, and the more treats they get, so they lean into it hard."
Bridge and Tunnel knew that it wasn't hard to beg Judy and Max for treats, but it was much easier to leverage the small humans - the grandchildren - for that goal.

[ Myker Vulbrix - Park, Front Ear Station] Dogs were rather more interesting than people for the most part and the Betazoid was generally bad at the whole conversation thing, ironically given his job and such. What was more interesting than both dogs and humans though? Was they way both species interacted. Myk listened to Max speak and then nodded, It seems so, although if I recall this particular breed existed for the herding of large animals. Myk noted, he'd read that somewhere about Earth. Of course that was in a time long before the Federation or Starfleet was even a thought. Myker nodded, I am sure the Grandkids enjoy the antics as much as you do. Often that's reward enough, although food seems to be a good motivator. Myker again was stating facts, nothing he was talking about came from experience but he knew and spoke to enough people who had pets themselves at some point. Also children don't know how to say no. Myker noted. Judith Eastman

[Capt. Judith Eastman(-Williams), PhD & Max Williams - Park]"It's the confluence of everything you just said, and one more thing - grandparents are horrible, horrible at saying no to our grandchildren," Judy remarked. "We spoil them relentlessly, all eight of them.""You're right about this breed having been herding dogs. They'd nip at the heels of cows to effectively chase them wherever they needed to go," Max added. "They do it to us sometimes."Presently, the dogs looked far too cartoonish to be as clever as the sentient beings had implied they were, but looks could be quite deceiving.

[ Myker Vulbrix - Park, Front Ear Station] A light smile came to Myk’s features as the Captain went on to speak about her grandchildren. It was very clear to the Betazoid that Judy was fond of her grandchildren. Not surprising really. Myker himself didn’t have grandchildren nor children for that matter but he knew the value of the role played by grandparents, his own having been integral in his upbringing and subsequent training. Do you see them often? The Betazoid asked, he was a curious individual especially with regards to other species. Myk’s attention shifted to Max, as he continued talking about the dogs. The smile returned to his features for just a moment as he looked at the dogs, Now they serve best as companions, loyal and loveable. They were amusing and clearly brought joy to their owners. Such comical creatures. This pair of canines certainly seemed more interested in the love they could get than chasing cattle or large animals. Judith Eastman

[Capt. Judith Eastman(-Williams), PhD & Max Williams - Park]"Well, 5 of them live here on the station, so we see them quite often. The others, we only get to see when we come back to Earth."Judy very much enjoyed the luxury of having grandchildren close by, though she wished she had them all. "We've only made one visit in the last year and a half. In fact, we just got back last week."Max nodded in confirmation.
