[Lt. Cmdr. Pierce Taggert - Front Ear - Conference Room 2]Taggert listened as Niles' report came over the com. The fact that Perry needed telepathic intervention to remember what happened to him was another piece of the puzzle. "I wouldn't be surprised if Ms. Mazal discovers his memory has been deliberately tampered with." When the Captain agreed to the suggestion about keeping the Soteria docked, Pierce smirked and leaned back in his chair. "That's easy. There's been a security incident and the perpetrator escaped. We can't risk letting them flee off station, so we need to keep all ships docked until they're in custody." It was a bit dramatic, but fun. In his opinion, at least. "Or for something less flashy, a maintenance issue is interfering with the docking clamps releasing. " [LTJG Chloe Hudson - Conference Room]
Niles confirmed, or at least further added to the mountain of circumstantial evidence the Alliance was surprisingly poor at obscuring, that there was some sort of conspiracy afoot.
"Infectious disease outbreak?" Chloe suggested as they were asked for excuses to keep the Soteria there without a diplomatic incident. It was a more suspicious excuse, but had advantages. Would restrict the Alliance sending more people onto the station off the Soteria and would allow the station to request an inspection of the Soteria to see if they had brought the fake disease. [Capt. Judith Eastman(-Williams), PhD - Conference Room]Judy thought about the options. A fake epidemic seemed a bit iffy to her, like something Harmon - and only Harmon - might think is a good idea. "I like the crime idea," she decided. =A= "Eastman to Ops. Delay all departures. We're searching for a criminal." =A=
=A= "Eastman to Velal, I want you to make it look like we're searching for a criminal on the station. Be subtle, but make it so the Nyberrites are aware. Maybe bring in Avi Moz for public intoxication or whatever misdemeanor she happens to be committing today." =A= In the meantime, she hoped for more speculation. A deliberate memory-block - even theoretical - was a start, but she wanted a working theory.

[ LT Joshua Niles - Sickbay, Front Ear Station ][Primary Sickbay - Front Ear] When dealing with the mind and in particularly accessing someone's thoughts and memories. Leanna very rarely used verbal communication and often funnelled out background noise and chatter. That way it enabled her to fully focus on the other individual or individuals, depending on the circumstances. Considering what she had found so far, it was troublesome to say the least, especially with how pained Perry sounded as he accessed those memories with her. If it was truly something other than torture with these experiments, then either way, they had to figure it out and get the answers. Riyo's continued presence thanks to their link, certainly helped as Perry then told her to go deeper. Taking a breath, that's what Leanna did, using what she knew already to probe further into Perry's mind. His memories were still so very vivid as if she had been the one experiencing them as opposed to simply observing. Becoming clearer with every passing second as scientists?, dug around his mind. Strange as to why they would do that until ... bam as she came up against a powerful blockage. Stumbling slightly .. Lea attempted to pull herself free of the link that had been established between her and Perry. " Scientists .... were digging around the Commodore's memory ...." she began, her voice shaky as a result of the psychic block that she had come up against. " I haven't come across such as powerful psychic block before" she admitted, wondering if she would ever be able to unlock the secrets that someone was trying to keep hidden.
Tag Judith Eastman Jovireh Velal , soft tag Isaiah Quinn Joshua Niles [Capt. Judith Eastman(-Williams), PhD - Conference Room]Pierce got a nod, authorizing him to do what he could to track down that freighter captain. It was as good a lead as any.
=A= "Thank you. Keep me posted." =A= Judy assumed that, as the matter of Quinn's alleged dual loyalties had not been mentioned, it had been resolved without issue. And so, she turned her attention to the facts. If earlier, Judy had been on a singular search for more of them, the facts she had on hand now assembled into a narrative she could not - and would not - deny or ignore. "I think it's quite likely we're dealing with a conspiracy of some kind," she assessed. "The Commodore was almost certainly taken to this planet, and then taken from it to be interepted by the Soteria."There was one suggestion Niles had made, unduly blunt as was his nature, but with a good idea bundled in. "Folks, I'd like to keep the Soteria here, but we can't make it look targeted, or else we'll cause an international incident. Any suggestions?"She didn't feel any need to say that she was open to their suggestions and speculations in general. That was the default assumption, and these two had worked with her often enough to know.
Tag Jovireh Velal , Matthew Harmon [NPC - Commodore (Reserves) Calvin Perry - Sickbay, Front Ear Station]As Lea went on, the memories now became vivid, and Calvin was back in that place, strapped down to a biobed, attached to monitors and electrodes time after time. He remembered it all too well now, all that had happened on that planet, for all those many weeks. He had counted them, he remembered that too. But as he looked beyond this, tried to remember how he arrived or how he left, his mind returned to the pain. There was a blockage. He wasn't even aware of Leanna, or anything around him. He just needed to stop. "Enough," he whispered faintly.
Tag Jovireh Velal , Joshua Niles , Leanna Mazal [Lt. Paawin Riyo - Front Ear - Primary Sickbay]As Leanna delved deeper into Perry's mind, the images became more vivid, and through the open link Riyo was able to feel a little bit of the pain the man was now experiencing. His gaze remained focused on the monitor though, watching as heart rate and breathing began to elevate. While evidence of emotional distress, neither were reaching the dangerous levels, so he said nothing until Leanna suddenly stumbled. Instinctively, he reached out to wrap his arm around her waist to steady her. "That's enough for now," he told her firmly, barely able to hear the patient's whispered word of the same. "You should both get some rest. Counselor, do you mind staying for awhile in case the Commodore needs help processing what he's remembered?" Momentarily not caring about maintaining professionalism, Riyo kept his arm around Lea to hold her close to his side as he looked to where Quinn and Niles had been standing watching. "We're done here. Go ahead and report to the Captain that the Commodore is stable and safe, and further treatment will be discussed once he's had some rest." It was his polite way of telling everyone who wasn't a patient or helping a patient that it was time for them to leave Sickbay.
Tag Leanna Mazal Judith Eastman Isaiah Quinn Joshua Niles Keep her posted. Of course. What else could he really do when he was less than certain of where he stood at the best of times? Hell, that article by the Dirt Dude had hardly done him any favours, to the point that he tried to avoid being seen at all during his off-duty hours... However, he brought his mind to the task at hand, and before long, he had information that was thoroughly unpleasant all right. The Commodore's memory had been deliberately manipulated and a block of sorts had been put in place. Now, Niles most certainly was no expert on telepathic measures or mental conditioning of that particular variety, but he could see how poking around that particular matter was less than pleasant for Perry. To the point that he asked for the process to come to an end. This was not good all right, and just as Doctor Paawin made it clear that anyone not involved in patient care should leave, the Lieutenant did offer a nod. "Of course, the Commander and I will get out of your hair. But the security detail is staying until we know there are no immediate threats."With that said, Niles headed for the door, and his hand came back up to his commbadge. =A= "Niles to Captain Eastman. Ma'am, Miss Mazal discovered that the Commodore's memories have not only been deliberately tampered with, but a mental block was put in place to prevent him from recaalling what can only be critical information. At the Commodore's request and Doctor Riyo's directives, we're done probing for now."=A= Now that was the first half of the status report, now the remainder, the part that he was half-expecting would be thrown back into his face. =A= "I've ordered the security detail to stay; whether the Commodore's mental block is hiding dangerous reprogramming or someone doesn't want him to remember anything and are willing to take measures to stop him from doing so I'm not willing to take any chances. In the meantime, I strongly recommend that Colonel Vasser and her officers be invited back to the conference room."=A= Of course, the question would be whether or not his opinions would be considered at all. The Captain was, well, very much an old woman at times and while not nearly as concerned with schmoozing as Sleebaggo was, she aimed to please everyone more often than not. This was a time when being nice might not be the right course of action. Not when the Nyberrites had pretty much screamed on the PA that they were hiding crucial information.

[CPO Jovireh Velal - Front Ear - Promenade Security Offices]Jov met his gaze and nodded a silent promise when he told her to be careful. There was more than one reason she was sending that part of the report up to Taggert, but it was a long and complicated story she didn't feel like getting into at the moment. So she focused her attention back on what she was doing, grinning when he agreed to her suggestion to not heal it completely. "I can't say I'd blame her if she did want you for an orgy," she replied playfully. Jov wasn't a doctor, and couldn't help but appreciate how he looked without his shirt on. But she at least tried to keep her gaze on the healing burn to not make it awkward for him. Once it had healed to the point that it shouldn't be painful, she set the regenerator back in the kit and turned her attention to the bruise that had become visible on his ribs. She gently pressed her fingertips against it to judge the swelling. "No fractures. Unfortunately I don't have anything to heal internal contusions. I can give you something for the pain for now, but you'll be sore for a few days."Just then Captain Eastman's voice came over her com badge, and her hand rested on Conor's side while she listened to the request. Well... That was certainly convenient. =A="I'm apparently two steps ahead of you, Captain. I'm just about to send people to bring Moz in for aggravated assault. She's wearing a disguise so it might take some time to find her. But there's another aspect to the report that I believe Commander Taggert should hear."=A=

[Lt. Cmdr. Pierce Taggert - Front Ear - Conference Room 2]Well, this was just getting better and better. When Niles confirmed the Commodore's memory had indeed been tampered with, that added a whole new level of suspicion and grounds for keeping the Soteria docked. When Velal responded that Avi Moz had already been involved in an incident, and they still needed to search for her, his eyebrows raised in slight amusement. That was even better than making something up. Though her following comment concerned him. After all the training he had done with her, the only reason she would pass up a report to him was if it required more authority than her current position granted. =A="I heard you, Chief. Inform the complainant that I'll meet with them as soon as I'm done here."=A= If it had been an emergency, she would have contacted him directly immediately. Right now his attention needed to be on this investigation.

She's wearing a disguise so it might take some time to find her. But there's another aspect to the report that I believe Commander Taggert should hear."=A= [Petty Officer Conor Lynch - Jovireh's Office]He chuckled a soft laugh at her very strange compliment, knowing that she was likely just trying to make him feel better. And he did; the fear from before had all but faded, as had a good portion of the anger. Replacing it was a weariness, and a longing. Despite the fact that he was sore almost all over, her touch to his bare skin was electrifying, sending sharp little shocks across his core. Obediently, he held up his arms so she could examine his rib cage. When she pronounced that he'd live, he nodded. "S'alrigh'," he said in response to the offer of pain killers, "I've dealt with bruised ribs a coupla times."The communication from Jovireh's captain, followed by her Chief's response, was the sign Lynch took that he should get going. He wasn't in the least bit surprised that she was already planning on acting on what had happened, though a part of him wished she wouldn't. Too late for that, he'd already spilled all the beans. Well, most of them, anyway. "I'll get outta yer hair," he said, reaching out to place a hand on her hip and gently guide her to the side so he could shift himself off the edge of the table. "I can make an official report on me way out." He suddenly felt the need to be somewhere familiar, preferably alone. He moved to the corner of the office, to the spot where he'd flung his shirt in frustration, and pulled it back on with a soft grunt of pain. It was back to front, with the burn hole falling somewhere around his shoulder blade, and he hoped that would pass muster if he was to run into his mother.

[LTJG Chloe Hudson - Conference Room]
Chloe was concerned when Judy suggested arresting Avi as a distraction. Remining the Alliance of her was potentially dangerous, and accusing her of committing a crime, while the Alliance was on the station was just inviting them to snoop around. Someone being chased for public drunkenness was hardly an excuse to hold the Alliance. These concerns soon became less pressing in Chloe's mind when Jovireh stated she was already on her way to arrest Avi. Instinctively, Chloe felt she should tell Matthew, however she quickly realised that was a bad idea for everyone's sake. He'd make things worse. And she needed to start being able to operate without his help.
Not only that, but Josh confirmed that the Commodore's memory had been messed with. "Ma'am, I agree with the Lieutenant. The Alliance clearly is up to something, and if they've tampered with the Commodore's memory, or know something about it they aren't telling us, we need to make sure they don't leave. This is more serious. What if they extracted secrets from the Commodore? It's potentially a major national security breach. If the ploy with Moz doesn't work and they still insist on leaving, I suggest we need to be prepared to hold them regardless of the diplomatic tension it would cause."

[ Avi Moz | Moz Workshop ]Gods dessert her, Avi Moz hated Matthew Harmon. He was an intestinal parasite, worming in and poisoning everything. Things had been going just great before he decided Avi could be helpful. And now he was interested in Mott. She moved towards him. "You stay away from him," she said low. "If you want to help, pay off Lynch to keep him quiet." Little Mott had made his presence on the station well-known since he'd arrived, running his mouth, getting in everyone's business. It was very Bolian of him. He'd naturally attached to Avi who was doing her bare-minimum best to care for him, but she was no mother. If she was surprised by her own protectiveness, she didn't admit it. But she knew she'd do just about anything to deflect Harmon's interest. "I'll handle Mott." With that, she pulled up her hood, donned the mask again and headed for the doors. [Matthew Harmon - Avi's Workshop]
Matt cursed under his breath as Avi decided to walk away and suggested he bribe Lynch. He could do it, but it was a bad idea. "Moz, you need to tell me what happened," he asserted as he followed her. "Chances are, he's already gone to Security. And if he was innocent, if he wasn't after you, then that makes this even more difficult. Bribing him is not going to work." She needed to turn herself in, but he knew that was unlikely. "You've either got to get out of here, which will be very difficult if you've already been reported," he would offer to represent her, but that was complicated by his involvement. Especially since it seemed he was innocent, making it far harder to mitigate what had happened. "I can try and get your charges and sentence reduced, that's harder with me involved." There were a few tricks he could use, particularly given her status as an intelligence asset. However, he couldn't, or rather wouldn't, get her out of it entirely. He could also pay civil damages on her behalf, but that was going to be an issue for much latter. The evidence wasn't particularly strong, unless there had been a camera, but it was still likely going to be enough to charge her with something. He'd considered checking if there was a camera and wiping it if there was one, but he'd decided that would make things worse. Often it wasn't the crime, but the coverup. It would be especially bad for him personally if the footage mysteriously went missing when the resident spook (or ex-spook?) was reportedly involved in making threats. If she was to remain on the station, unless by some miracle he didn't report them, there wasn't a way to escape entirely without consequences. "Your best way out is to turn yourself in. Go to the station, surrender yourself for assault and battery. Don't say anything beyond that until I can get there. Tell me where Mott might be, and I will get him to safety. He's upset at you anyway, so I might have more luck getting through to him now anyway." The other option was she could plead not guilty by reason of insanity.

[CPO Jovireh Velal - Front Ear - Promenade Security Offices] The first thing Jovireh noticed was his hand on her hip, guiding her to the side so he could stand. The second thing was the sudden, tangible change in his mood. She sighed softly when she realized what the cause was. That was the downside to 'living in the moment and doing what feels natural.' Turning to face him as he retrieved his shirt from the floor, she leaned back against her desk and folded her arms in front of her. "Hey... Can you do me a favor? As a friend." She briefly thought about how much she should tell him about what she was planning. While she trusted Conor, she decided he would only worry about her if he knew the details. "Please don't tell anyone you told me it was Harmon that was involved. Just knowing it was one of our officers is enough for me to send it up to Taggert." Of course, it was entirely possible Harmon would find out anyway. His ability to dig for information was precisely why she was planning on asking for his help. Jovireh didn't like the man from the start, and this incident certainly made that worse, but there was no one else who could get her the information that she needed.

With Niles, there was more to manage. =A= "Lieutenant, if I drag Vasser back in now, not only will I cause an international incident, but we'll also get nothing. She'll claim ignorance and tell us nothing," =A= she explained. =A= "We'll keep the Soteria from leaving, as much as we're able, but you'll have to give me more before we take a run at her. Treat the Commodore like a traumatized witness, see what he does remember and what can be pieced together from that. Eastman out." =A= She turned her attention to Chloe, who had more to say, and therefore more to answer. "It's a difficult situation. It's hard to believe the Alliance isn't at least partly responsible, but moving too fast, too early, and without enough evidence could backfire. We don't want our efforts written off as the work of a vengeful crew with a half-senile captain. It definitely won't make the Nyberrites unlearn whatever they've learned from Perry." To some degree, Judy believed that the facts didn't matter as much in Starfleet as they used to back in her day. If the Admirals wanted to continue playing nice with the Nybbies, they'd find an excuse, just like Caldonia.

[Lt. Commander Isaiah Quinn - Sickbay, Front Ear Station ] Isaiah watched carefully as Ms. Mazal proceeded to help Commodore Perry 'remember.' Isaiah wasn't entirely certain what this exercise would reveal, but he was content to let the facts play out. This particular practice didn't seem to meet the Nyberrite physician's approval as he started to take his leave. Niles asked after the doctor, but the Breen offered little of an answer as he took leave. It was admittedly strange, but Dr. Bel also had no obligation to remain in Sickbay being that Commodore Perry had been officially received from Nyberrite custody. There didn't seem to be any physical issues to occur during the procedure, but Commodore Perry did hint at remembering something. Or at least parts of something: A lab... and someone working with a purpose... not torture. Isaiah could only assume that it was Leanna's expertise that led her to pull even more from Perry's memory, that scientists had been digging in Perry's memory. She had also discovered some sort of psychic block. One more powerful than she had encountered before. They weren't able to learn much more as Perry called for them to stop. Clearly the strain pulling at that psychic block was uncomfortable to say the least. Dr. Paawin mentioned that that would be enough for now, and that it was okay for them to report their findings to the Captain. Clearly, he felt that his patient had reached his saturation point for interrogation for the day. "Thank you, Doctor," Isaiah said with a nod. He then looked towards Leanna and Perry. "Leanna." He nodded and offered a slight smile at the Betazoid who had been incredibly helpful. They certainly wouldn't have been able to learn as much as they had without her. "Try to get some rest, sir." Those were his departing words to the Commodore as he nodded towards Yvonna who remained. Isaiah proceeded towards the exit of Sickbay along with Niles. The tactical officer was prompt in calling the Captain and reporting their findings. Quinn didn't say anything towards his suggestion at inviting Vasser and the rest of her officers back to the conference room. Captain Eastman settled for delaying the Soteria's departure instead, suggesting that they'd need much more if they were to take a run at Vasser. As the com ended, Quinn finally broke his silence. "The Captain is right," he began, "but stalling is only going to get us so far. Vasser will see through that almost immediately. Which means, if there's a thread to pull, we need to find it soon." Quinn took a deep breath as he mentally recalled everything they had learned. "To be fair, not once did either Perry or Leanna mention that these scientists were from the Nyberrite Alliance. Of course that doesn't absolve them of guilt either. And that psychic block... it may be there to protect someone's secrets or Perry himself. Maybe even both." Quinn wasn't so sure that he believed that, but this delicate house of cards between Starfleet and the Alliance made it necessary to at least consider the possibility. "Right now, there's no one that can give us the answers to those questions, so perhaps we should focus on someone who actually can give us answers about Perry," Quinn said.
[NPC - Lieutenant (j.g.) Yvonna Teller-Wright - Sickbay, Front Ear Station ] Yvonna certainly had her reservations about this procedure, but she couldn't think of a reason to object, especially if Perry was willing to undergo the procedure voluntarily. It was about that time that Dr. Bel decided to take his leave. The Breen's decision to depart when he did certainly seemed to capture Josh's attention. Yvonna had to agree that it was odd, but right now her primary concern was Perry. As the procedure concluded at Commodore Perry's request, Yvonna was certainly concerned about this psychic block. Apparently probing at it and trying to surpass it seemed painful for Perry. It made Yvonna wonder if it was some heavily traumatic experience that it was concealing. "This block you mentioned, was there any indication if it was artificial or naturally constructed?" she asked Leanna. She knew that Betazoids had such capabilities to erect such protections from traumatic memories. However, the human brain did have the ability to protect the psyche from such memories as well through memory loss. Of course, the counselor was ready to submit to Ms. Mazal's expertise being the only telepath presently in the room. WARNING - SENSITIVE CONTENT - reference to predatory behaviors[NPC - Rimi Mora - Spotty Alibi, Promenade, Front Ear Station ] Rimi wasn't certain if relief was the right word, especially sense she kept looking over her shoulder to see if Bolton had followed suit. Though when it seemed that they had gotten far enough away, Rimi's liberator spoke mentioning that she had looked as if she needed rescuing back there. Rimi wasn't entirely certain that she trusted this woman either. After all, her judge of character clearly wasn't what she thought it had been. Yet, the sense of being threatened was apparent with her. "Um... yeah. I guess so," she said mousily. Her head twirled a bit to again check her surroundings to see if she had been followed and simply missed Bolton. She was then asked what her name was and whether or not she was visiting the station. "What? No, I... I live here. My dad's an engineer... Starfleet." Somehow, just uttering those words seemed like an additional layer of protection. Whether it was just the thought of her father, or the hope that mentioning Starfleet would deter any sinister intentions, Rimi wasn't entirely certain. Still, this woman didn't seem like a threat. In fact, it did feel like the exact opposite.

[Bridge, N.S.S. Soteria ] As the doors parted, Vasser strolled onto the Bridge and moved towards her chair. "Sergeant Gorsk," she began, "prepare to depart as soon as all of our people have returned." Vasser lowered herself into her seat, but soon found herself observing a rarity: Gorsk delivering disappointing news. "I'm afraid all departures have been delayed, Colonel," Gorsk reported from her station. Vasser's brow furrowed. She had her suspicions, but thought it best to explore the situation herself personally. "Open a channel the station," Vasser ordered. As the communications officer notified her that she was live, Vasser spoke aloud. -♦- "Soteria to Station Ops. This is Colonel Helena Vasser. Please advise to the nature of this delay." -♦- Vasser paused, waiting eagerly for a response.
[Corridors, Deck 29, Front Ear Station ] The Breen exited the turbolift and continued along the corridors, making his way back to the Soteria. He still wondered if it was common practice for Starfleet to simply pluck strangers off the street to perform mind probes. Either way, it was hardly any of his concern. He couldn't say the same for Perry, but at least he wasn't in any danger from engaging a telepath, given that his four-lobed brain was impervious to telepathic contact.

[Petty Officer Conor Lynch - Jovireh's Office]"'Course," he said readily when she asked for a favour. Lynch remained quiet as she made her request, not entirely sure the reason behind it. Was it concern for him? There would be no need, if anyone said anything to Harmon about what had happened he'd deduce straight away the source. Lynch had been damned either way, which was why he'd told Jovireh. He'd wanted to warn her, too. "I'll keep me mouth shut," he promised. He glanced at the door and then back at her. "Tanks fer the medical assist. Less blood this time, righ'?" With a somewhat rueful grin he gave her a small wave and stepped outside. He would locate the nearest officer, give his report, and then make himself scarce.

[Primary Sickbay - Front Ear] The foray into the Commodore's mind had been an experience, one that had reminded Leanna just how vulnerable people could be. Her mind was still a mixture of both her and Perry's emotions, jumbled together as she became aware of Riyo holding onto her, before she heard Perry himself. She wasn't about to argue or even attempt to suggest that they continue, not when she had encountered that powerful psychic block. Whoever had done this to the Commodore was clever as Riyo spoke to her directly. " I've done what I can" she replied softly. He would know that she wouldn't go against his wishes, medical advice or his concern for that matter. Grateful for the physical support that he was still giving her as he addressed those still in the room. Knowing that he would want her to remain in Sickbay until he was satisfied that her and the babies were okay. Leanna tried to clear her mind as Niles finished a comm to someone and prepared to leave alongside Commander Quinn. Managing a smile in response to Isaiah's acknowledgement of her name and what she had done, before Yvonna then asked her a question about the block. Sifting through the information that she had gleaned, Leanna was able to answer that with conviction. " This wasn't a natural occurrence so whoever did this to the Commodore, put the block in deliberately ... for what purpose I don't know".

[Lt. [NPC - Lieutenant (j.g.) [NPC - Commodore (Reserves) Calvin Perry - Sickbay, Front Ear Station]The various people in the room seemed to talk over Calvin, as they were wont to do, and so his eyes closed, lulled into a much-needed sleep. In this sleep, however, he found no rest, as he found himself in a fighter, an awfully familiar one. Suddenly, he felt searing pain.
"Get me out!" he howled. "Get me out!" And then his eyes opened, he saw Sickbay, and instantly felt very sheepish.

Mabel Henriksen - Ops, Front Ear Station]The call came in as Mabel, the newish Chief of Ops, occupied the center chair. For the young woman, this new job was a splendid opportunity to grow and to apply all she had learned, and she was enjoying it greatly. =A= "Soteria, there's a criminal loose on the station. Under Chapter C of the Transportation Safety Act, we're implementing a full hold on departures, embarkations, and disembarkations until this criminal is apprehended. Thank you for your cooperation." =A= Mabel could recite by heart so many of Starfleet's bureaucratic proceedings, almost as a Vulcan or a computer - it was a point of pride for the young woman. =A= "In the meantime, we can send you some brownies." =A=
