Frontier Station Citizen Advisory Council (FSCAC)The council was founded in part by Ferengi station resident and businessman Brack who invited a few others to join the council, including Apazi Fellin and Leanna Mazal. The goal being for non-Starfleet station residents to have a stronger, official voice in station governance. Threads - 2381.08.05 - Speak and be Heard - The first meeting of the council, open to the public. Issues taken up include: supporting the establishment of a Bajoran temple on the Promenade, changes to docking policies to improve timing for smaller vessels, and how to be more welcoming to other species' and visitors. A committee was formed to propose docking procedures to present to Starfleet station leadership.
Members Original PostI had a thought that it would be interesting that if in-character there was a citizen advisory council on the station. It makes sense that the Federation runs a Federation station, but with everything that seems to go wrong, I get the sense that some residents might see a need for more transparency and communication, and more of an official say in station matters. Would anyone be interested in this? I can think of a handful of characters who'd be considered either having strong community or business ties and be approached to serve. The council would have briefings with command and meet independently on station life matters. Matters might be coordinating for better trade relationships, conflict resolution between residents, hosting community events, grumbling to Starfleet about security and maintenance, forming a school, etc.

For the business side, I can offer Brack the Legendary, legendary owner of the Twilight Hotel & Casino, and Jorzar Kehl, grumpy trill proprietor of the Spotty Alibi. To mess shit up and bring endless issues to the council I can offer the intrepid Charlie Fox, and the ornery Ambassador L'Sho.

Hey, cool! Glad you're all interested. My councilor would certainly be Apazi Fellin, with perhaps appearances by Vedek Dima. I figure we can just jump to the chase and have their first meeting. I feel like any character could come to observe or bring up issues as well. It's tricky to know when to set it though. I'd like to set it in August so that it happens *before* the current unresolved mission. That would mean the council is in existence during the current mission/event, but I think we can avoid a paradox. Apazi would *not* be the type to start this council. If your character(s) would be the type, have at it. Councilors can have been approached and asked or pressured to join. I would expect it would have the at least tentative support of Starfleet, but perhaps they have no choice to support it.

Brack certainly would be the type to start the council, especially if he believed it to be in the interest of his business, so go ahead and feel free to namedrop him as the organiser/instigator.

I imagine Judy would be all in favor of the council pre-retirement. Working more closely with the promenade business community has always been a priority for her.
And after she retires (about when I retire), she can find her place on the other side of the table.

Thea would be supportive with this too. She's a frequent visitor to the Promenade when she's not on the ship. This particular timeline she's undergoing surgery but she would attend when she could at future meetings etc :-)

Jeb and I have been devising a new local politician character to debut at some point. Not going to give too much away, but I think he could fit. Either on the council himself or if not as a local and community focused politician he'd probably interact with it a fair bit. He is, lets say passionate but not necessarily super reliable, and probably would be a bit tardy and not attend every meeting as he'd spend most of his time on Kerellia and neighbouring planets.

Ooh... I love this concept!
Let's see... among my civilian characters, I have only a few with political ambitions: either Ambassador Morii or her husband. Either would naturally try to sell her position as an asset the council needs. I even think some (such as Slilick) would rather lurk from outside the council and try to advance their agenda with the only thing that really matters: gold-pressed latinum.
Definitely eager to see what the minds not bound by a badge seem to think about the community aboard the station, and the grievances and progressions that come with.

Let me know when the FSCAC thread progresses past the November mission & event, and I'll throw Judy in there.
