GRAND OPENING!
~~ Open to all ~~ "Almost time!" Conor Lynch exclaimed, loudly enough to be heard over the computer's audio countdown, his mother's constant chattering from the kitchen and the band, Thin As Lizzy, who were setting up their instruments and engaging in some last minute sound checks and tuning. He was having an out of body experience. It was finally time to open up Peig's and to expose himself and all of his efforts to the world of Kerelia. And not just Kerelia, but his friends from the station, too. He had sent invitations to everyone he knew, with the instruction for them to pass it along. Everyone was welcome. Everyone except the two lovely individuals framed and hung behind the bar, that is. He winked first at the one with the pale face, then the blue. What people thought of him mattered most of the time, but the older he got, the more he realised that not all people mattered. "Don't just stand there, ye useless liúdramán[fn]Eejit.[/fn], help me with the pot!"Peggy stood in the archway between bar and kitchen, and small as the woman herself was, she looked gigantic. Hands on hips and unimpressed expression - her armour of choice. But Conor knew his ma, and he knew that she was proud that he'd finally found something to apply himself to. Decades of aimless wandering, flitting from one job to another and never quite finding something that fit, had left his mother despairing for her son. She may not have wanted to see him working in a bar, but owning his own, and being so close to her own business on the Front Ear's Promenade was something she could work with. And for the grand opening she had even provided her talents. Nothing could get Conor Lynch down, and so he cheerfully approached, spring in his step and grin on his face. Without much effort, he gripped the sides of the large stewing pot and hefted it to the waiting wire stand next to the catering tables. This wasn't quite going to be Peig's usual spread, but he'd decided to push the boat out for the first night. The tables were laden with all manner of treats, buffet style. Fresh summer salads, pots of aromatic, wine-braised beef with local mushrooms and sautéed onion, finger foods like the classic pigs in blankets, spicy wings and mini-quiches, and then of course there was Peggy's latest local recipe in her stewing pot; the Peppered Chomp[fn]A local fish, first caught and named by a 7 year old colonist[/fn]. It had been slowly simmering for 12 hours in a stock base of tomato, a red pepper local varietal and wine, and she promised that it would melt in his patrons' mouths. She returned to the kitchen to finish her work on her specialty - the potatoes. "Tellin' yis now, if tha' Mark Watney chap can grow spuds on Mars, then mark my words, I'll grow 'em on Kerelia."[fn]Yes I crossed the streams, leave me alone.[/fn] She began applying the butter glaze to her thrice-roasted tubers. Lynch rolled his eyes toward his fellow bartender, a Katarian lady named Tana, who had agreed to help out during the adjustment period. She gave him a knowing glance in return, seeming completely unphased by the chaotic Lynches. The first few actual strains of real music began coming from the artist area as Lizzy began a jovial rendition of Jenny's Wedding.[fn] Listen here for an idea of the present ambiance![/fn] They were traditionally an Irish rock cover band, but like all good musicians, they had mastered more than one genre and in the case of two of the band members, more than one instrument. They were in high demand on the Irish pub circuit, and Lynch had pulled in a couple of favours to get them to stay for more than a week. "5... 4..."Droned the Computer, her monotone delivery not in the slightest bit matching the turmoil of emotions within Lynch. He reached under the gleaming, brand new bar counter, and tapped the release for the windows. "3... 2..."The natural, powerful light of Kerelia spread out over his new home, inch by quick inch, bathing it colour. He had not wanted the traditional, dark and gloomy lighting of the typical Irish pub. He wanted something that offered an experience within, but fit seamlessly with everything outside. And then, after the sun set, the lighting would be soft, with with a golden glow. He wanted warmth and he wanted a hundred thousand welcomes.[fn]More on the layout and design of Peig's here.[/fn] "...1."He sucked in a deep breath, vaulted the bar and then pulled open the large wooden doors.
Open.

[Approaching Peig's - Kerelia] The decision to buy a property on Kerelia had been one of the best decisions that Lea and Riyo had ever made. Plus when you factored in how easy it was to just hop on a shuttle and be there within the hour was so appealing and meant that they could visit as much as they could. With the birth of the twins getting closer by the day, the couple had come to the colony to enjoy a 'Babymoon'. A few days of it being only the two of them whilst Jeffy and her parents looked after the kids and Shadow. Of course when she had received the invite to the grand opening of Conor's bar, she knew that she had to be there. So with it coinciding with their trip and the thought of just having a fun night of dancing, food and great company, she wasn't going to turn it down. Outfit sorted and with an air of excitement, Lea felt more positive than she had of late. The kind of feeling that she often associated with being on the planet and looked towards her Fiance as they walked hand in hand towards the bar. " I think tonight is going to be a lot of fun, I'm glad that we decided to do this".

[Capt. Judith Eastman(-Williams) PhD & Max Williams - Peig's]Outside the door stood one Max Williams, looking serene even compared to his usual standard, with his arm around his wife Judy. Her pending resignation was still a secret, kept between relatively few, but it was happening. The couple hadn't been to a proper Irish pub in years, and were eager to check this one out. Max, a veteran of the restaurant industry, was always very interested in new establishments. Judy shared this interest, as befit her old and new jobs. "Hello there," Max said as the doors opened. "Nice place."Judy nodded in agreement.

[ George and Evi Hugo - Peig's] George (Starfleet lieutenant, engineer, former ----- agent) and Evi (artist, FNN holo-photographer, half-Romulan refugee) Hugo had recently returned from several weeks of vacation on Risa. The stoic engineer had tolerated such 'fun' because he loved Evi and wanted to give her everything she'd been denied by her horrible father. While he'd never admit it to anyone but Evi, he had enjoyed himself, after the first week of adjustment. They'd done a mix of activities from swimming to snorkeling to hiking to staying in and, well, and a little bit of reading for him and painting for her. George had even gotten a bit of a tan. Now the diminutive (5 foot no inches unless you counted her hair) Romulan hybrid had talked her 6'6" mountain of a husband into some more fun, this time closer to home. Evi was eager to see the friends she'd made since coming to the station and maybe talking George into dancing with her. They joined the queue of people getting ready to enter the new pub, Evi gripping George's hand in both of hers. He was dressed comfortably in dark grey slacks and black button-down shirt and boots. His sleeves were rolled halfway up and he squeezed Evi's hands, smiling down at her. Evi, on the other hand, was dressed to the nines. she wore chunky silver heeled sandals that did nothing to bring her any closer to her husband's height. Her sleeveless black-to-white ombre dress ended a couple of inches above her knees, silver starbursts starting in the white at the hem and streaking up to end just below her bust. Her crowning glory was her trademark purple curls, gathered in a pouf on top of her head with tiny clear twinkle lights woven throughout. It was a relatively recent development that Evi had started to wear her hair up where her slightly pointed ears were visible. In rebellion as a teenager, she'd gotten a number of piercings in them, so the edges were lined with small hoops and gemstones in various colors. Evi bounced exuberantly as the doors opened and the cheerful music spilled out and they began moving inside. Tag Charlie Fox , Leanna Mazal , Judith Eastman

[Petty Officer Conor Lynch - Peig's]"Welcome, welcome! Tá fáilte roimh!"Lynch was exuberant as he ushered the first arrivals inside. "Bar straigh ahead o' yas, some food righ' over here, be sure ta sample the local chomp - caught this mornin'!"When he caught sight of the Captain and her husband, he almost faltered in his patter. "Ah, thanks, thanks. Labor o' love, it's been," he responded to Max's compliment, just as his mother poked her head around the kitchen archway. "Max, Judy! How are yis? I'll be ou' fer a chat once I'm finished in here!" She waved at the pair and then turned back inside, muttering something about her son being a tyrannical capitalist. Conor himself had no idea how she knew the couple; but then Peggy seemed to know everyone. Perhaps it was because most people liked potatoes, and she had a potato restaurant. He caught sight of a flash of brilliant purple and went back to welcoming the guests inside. "Welcome!" He smiled broadly at the next couple. He'd never seen a more opposite pair. It tickled his sense of romance. "A pint fer yis?" He asked, then gestured toward the bar area. "I'll be righ' there."He'd hired the extra bartender to ensure everyone was served in a timely manner, but that didn't stop Lynch from wanting to do everything himself.

[Lt. Paawin Riyo - Kerelia - Peig's]Riyo had chosen his own outfit to compliment her dress, with a pale blue button down over black slacks. Sleeves rolled up to his elbow as usual, and earring in place as he had gotten in the habit of wearing it more often since they'd been together, he gave her hand a gentle squeeze as they walked closer to the new venue. "I'm sure it's going to be a lot of fun." It wasn't often they were able to attend a grand opening party. The vibrant purple hair in front of him indicated the presence of one of Lea's friends that she didn't get to spend much time with these days, also. It would be good for them to have the chance to catch up.

[Peig's - Kerelia] The gentle squeeze of her hand and just the general look in her direction, never failed to make Lea feel important and desired, even if she didn't always think that way. The pregnancy had done quite a number on her hormones and emotions and there were days where she felt nothing but huge and frumpy. Not tonight though as Riyo agreed with her about this being fun. " Definitely, Conor deserves success and I can see us being regulars whenever we're down here" Lea said with genuine happiness at seeing Conor set up business on the colony. She may not be close to the former security officer but as far as she was concerned he was family thanks to Jack and not she couldn't forget his lovely mother Peggy either. So filled with an excitement at getting to see what was on offer and spotting Evi up ahead alongside her husband George. Lea smiled again at the prospect of catching up with her friend as it had been too long and squeezed Riyo's hand back as they moved forward into the bar's entrance. " Wow, I like it already " she remarked to Riyo as she took in the immediate view and spotted more familiar faces.

[Lt. Cmdr. Pierce Taggert - Kerelia - Peig's]Pierce was glad this place opened up while he still had a couple weeks left in the area to enjoy it. Over the past several months he hadn't been able to spend nearly as much time on the planet as he would have liked, but there simply hadn't been enough time between running the department, training Jov, and mentoring a few of the other officers. But now with his ship on the way, he had officially stepped down into an advisory role, and was looking forward to spending as much time on the planet as he could over the next few weeks. He felt slightly out of place standing in line by himself behind several couples, but he knew as soon as he had a beer in his hand, that unease would disappear. His gaze swept over the building as he approached the doors, a small grin on his face as he appreciated the distinctly 'Earth' feel to it.

[Capt. Judith Eastman(-Williams), PhD & Max Williams - Peig's]"I can feel that," Judy replied to Conor. "There's an energy to the place."At the sound of Peggy's voice, Max gave the older woman a wave. "We'll be here!" he called out. As Conor moved on to the next customers, the couple moved on to the bar. They saw George and Evi, as well as Pierce, and they certainly wouldn't mind having company, but for now, Judy's throat was dry and in need of a pint.

[NPC - Lieutenant (j.g.) Yvonna Teller-Wright - Peig's, Kerelia] Well, talk about awkward. That's certainly what Yvonna felt like as she approached the Irish pub that was just opening on Kerelia. After hearing about it, Yvonna had definitely wanted to check it out. If only to have yet another place she could suggest some of her patients visit for a little down-time. Though, she had to admit that there was a part of her that missed some of Earth's more charming tokens. And while no one would ever admit as much, and Irish pub was just that. So, what was awkward? The number of couples that had decided to come to this grand opening event. Yvonna knew it would be a draw, but she hadn't expected this. She had already spent an hour and a half trying to decide what to wear. With it being an Irish pub, she had nearly settled on leather and denim. Though, with it being a premiere event, then surely it warranted something more, right? She had decided to upon a dark dress with a floral design, believing that to be a happy compromise, but seeing what others were wearing was starting to feel way underdressed. Dashing back to the station and her quarters would likely draw even more attention. It was just best to weather things from here, make an appearance and perhaps an early exit. Seeing the large wooden doors open and hearing a hint of the music steadily growing louder with each step caused a calming smile to spread across the young counselor's lips. As she crossed the threshold, her eyes took in the area that was just beginning to busy with its own pulse of bustle. The most attractive sight soon caught Yvonna's attention as she casually moved towards the bar, already debating what to drink: Irish Coffee... Bailey's... or some dark ale....

[Shavan Th’zhaar & Jurgha, daughter of Khar - Peig’s]
For those looking for a night of drunken revelry, the opening of the new bar on Kerelia sounded like an attractive enough prospect for a night out. And so two more joined the varied queue of people waiting for things to get started.
With a suspicious glare at the Orion hybrid in line behind her, Jurgha pushed forward and swept through the doors as soon as they opened. Making straight for where they were serving drinks, she banged a fist down on the bar top. “Your finest ale, now!” The shout cut above the music and quieter chatter, and she fixed the bartender with a grin, and a stare of deadly challenge. This was supposed to be a celebration, after all; someone had to make things more lively.
Shavan entered more slowly, and ended up leaning against the bar at the other end. He cast a glance over the growing crowd for anyone he knew, or anyone that might make for interesting company.

[SCPO Jovireh Velal - Kerelia - Peig's]
Jovireh had arrived not long after Commander Taggert, but had chosen to hang back so it didn't appear as though they had arrived together. She wasn't deaf to the rumors that had been circulating about her swift promotions after months of spending extended hours in the Holosuite with her superior. While she couldn't stop the rumors, she didn't intend to give them more fuel, either.
After a couple more people got in the ever growing line towards the front door, Jov was about to join them when she saw an all-too familiar hue of turquoise step in line behind Jurgha. Oh, this could not be happening... Suddenly panicking at the idea of both of her interests being in the same room together - including her - she quickly ducked around the corner of the building and braced her back against the wall, closing her eyes and trying to calm her rapidly beating heart through deep and slow breaths.
Of course Shavan would find the grand opening of a new bar irresistible... Jov should have expected him to show up. And she knew Conor would be hurt if she didn't go support him. At least she and Shavan had already talked about their openness when it came to others... So she knew he wouldn't be offended if she didn't spend much time with him that evening. Hopefully that would be enough to not ruin Conor's night. After all, this looked to be like a very successful grand opening... And she'd never forgive herself if she ruined it for him in any way.
So with another deep breath of resolution, she straightened away from the wall. After running her fingers through her hair that she'd left loose around her shoulders, she brushed off her slacks and adjusted the matching open-back halter style top that showed off as much of her tattoo as any shirt could, and turned back around the corner to start walking towards the suddenly formidable looking doors.

Tags: Judith Eastman , Left Ear to-Ennien [ George and Evi Hugo - Peig's] Evi returned Lynch's grin, the excitement infectious. ' I'd love a drink,' Evi responded. ' The place looks great! I love the aesthetic.' As an artist, she couldn't help commenting on that side of things. ' Sounds good to me, too,' George said with a nod at the young Irishman. The engineer enjoyed a good pub, but he'd never been one to gush over, well, anything. The pair navigated across the room to the bar, George practically velcroed to Evi's side. She was so small that it wasn't unusual for people run into her. How they managed to miss the purple hair, George couldn't figure out. Evi was also a tad clumsy, so on the chunky heels, she was more likely to take a tumble if someone did run into her. ' Captain, Max,' George acknowledged as they sidled up to the bar not far from the other couple. His years of training made it near impossible for him to not acknowledge a superior officer formally, even out of uniform. Evi waved cheerfully at the pair as she turned to lean against the bar and see who else was around. Tag Charlie Fox and Judith Eastman

[Conor Lynch - Peig's]
He had worried that people wouldn't come. He'd thought he would never be able to fill even a portion of the space within Peig's; thought he'd vastly overestimated everything. Especially himself. At least tonight, for the Grand Opening, people were showing up. Soon, if it continued at this pace, Peig's would be wall-to-wall packed, with standing only space. Lynch knew that it wouldn't continue as such, that the pub would eventually, with any luck, fall into a regular pattern of ebbs, flows, action and lulls. He would learn a lot in the coming weeks.
And nobody knew as much about these things as Leanna Mazal, who had just arrived with her fella. "Ah, Lea! How are yis? I'm delighted yis are here. Someone else can serve ya fer once, righ'?" Conor wasn't long in this game, but he foresaw many a late night behind the bar, and even earlier morning hours pouring over the books. It was good that Leanna could enjoy an atmosphere such as this without having to worry about the others, or be on the clock. "We got Warp Core on tap," he added with a wink, sure she'd be pleased that they were serving Seamus' brew.
"Mr. Taggert, how are ya, we've a fine selection o' ales, pale an' dark. Ah, Counselor! Hello! Fáilte![fn]Welcome![/fn]"
His cheeks went a little pink when he saw Yvonna, the memory of the things he'd said about her to Kova and Kaya popping unannounced back into his head. "I'll be to the bar presently!"
He spotted an Orion and a Klingon, and up above everyone's heads was a flying ball with a life of its own, which suggested the presence of someone filming. He was about to make his way back to the bar, which had become very busy, when he spotted Jovireh.
"Jov!" He roared over the quickly elevating din, then in a few quick steps reached her and enveloped her in a hug. He'd acted instinctually, not giving it any thought, and so when realisation dawned completely he felt a little shocked at himself. Newfound confidence aside, he was pleased to see her. "So glad ya made it! Whatya think?"
[Charlie Fox & Bnada - Peig's, Kerelia]
Charlie Fox stepped one foot up onto the gold-brushed foot rest that travelled along the length of the bar and leaned over. There was no other way someone of her stature would be seen properly or taken seriously without a height boost.
"What have you got on tap?"
The Ktarian bartender, who now had the attention of quite a few patrons wandering over, intent on ordering their first drink in the Irish pub, began touching each tap, fingers light. "We have Warp Core beer, which I believe is the creation of one of the barmen from the Blue Beta up above, so many of you will be familiar with that. We've got a couple of barrels of Serenity's latest export, which someone brought back from the colony the last time the Mac crew visited. We're just calling that Serenity Brew. There's Guinness, of course, transported in directly from James' Gate Brewery in Dublin, which is supposedly a big deal. If you were to ask the proprietor of Peig's, he would claim it to be the best ale of all." She returned the Klingon's grin with a smile of her own and began pouring her a Guinness.
"Then there's a tropical pale from Torus VI and a golden ale from Arkaria, served at 4 degrees centigrade and boasting a citrusy finish."
The glass was angled perfectly, and the black liquid poured into the pint glass, with later a swirl of the creamy head rising to the top. The perfect pour, as Lynch had insisted many a time, came in two parts. With about a quarter of the glass left unfilled, she put it down to "settle". Bnada thought it tasted awful, but there was certainly an art to it.
"There's also a new cocktail menu. The Peggy Sour is the house special." She pointed to the old-fashioned blackboard hung behind the bar, that listed several interesting names, all written by hand with chalk.
It read:
Peggy Sour The Red Shirt Amber Alert The Dirty Tritter
Charlie did not want to be reminded of anything to do with Serenity, so that was discounted. She wasn't a tropical kind of person, and Seamus' brew, although tasty, she'd sampled. "Pint of the Golden Arkarian, then. Thanks."
Bnada nodded, then returned to taking other orders with a practiced ease. Once the Guinness was ready she placed it in front of the Klingon. "For you," she said with reverence, then turned toward the Orion and the other gathered humans. "What can I get you all?"

[Capt. Judith Eastman(-Williams), PhD & Max Williams - Peig's]When George addressed the couple - Max by his first name, Judy by rank - the couple exchanged a meaningful look. Soon enough, they could be free of that title, and some of the social awkwardness it brewed. "Evi, George, hello," Judy greeted back. "Lovely place, isn't it? The structure really seems to fuse together the Irish influence and the Kerelian environment."Max, meanwhile, turned to the bartender. "I'll have a Guiness for me, and one of whatever syntheholic beer you have for the lady," he ordered.
