[Lurai Sren - LZ-1, Kerelia, base camp]
Lurai had let go of the crate before Thea even told her to abandon the project for now. The sensations of pain grew stronger as the life forms gathered in the trees, and she was starting to feel really antsy and uneasy because of it. Her heartrate had picked up and her stress levels were going up. She had a really bad feeling about this. Then something changed ever so slightly in the emotional state of the creatures: A stone-cold resolve through the pain. The feeling made Lurai cry out in alarm and telepathically-projected pain just as the first creatures broke through the foliage. The ensuing chaos was full of emotions, thoughts and sensations of pain, terror and desperation, knocking the air out of her lungs. Unable to think clearly, she reacted instinctively and threw herself in behind the stack of crates. Hyperventilating from the onslaught of sensations coming from everywhere all at once, she fought panic while fumbling for her phaser with trembling fingers and forcing herself to take deep, although shuddering, breaths. Block it out, block it out, block it out, listen to your own heartbeats, listen to your own thoughts...

[Ensign Lurai Sren - LZ-1, Kerelia, clearing]
Lurai looked at Saya. ”I'm afraid I can't tell what it is. Hopefully not a predator. I wonder if it's hunger”, she mused. "Sorry, I haven't seen your hyperspanner either, Chief."
She nodded in agreement to Thea as she suggested they start sorting out the crates of medical equipment. ”Right away, Ma'am.” Walking over to the crates, she suddenly froze in place as more sensations swept into her mind and made her look up at the trees again. ”There are more.” Looking from tree to tree she continued: ”Now there's... a dozen of them, I think. They're all feeling the same sort of pain.” She still couldn't make out just what was causing it. The Ensign shook her head. The crates. Back to work.
Lifting up the first crate she began to sort and stack them neatly. All the sensations of pain coming from the unseen life forms in the trees were a bit distracting, but she wasn't going to let them infringe on her work performance. [ Chief Ozu Saya - LZ 1 - Kerelia] Saya blew out a frustrated breath and nodded her assent to Thea's assistance. Yes, thank you. I can't imagine where it could have gone. Not a single one of these engineers would touch my personal tool kit, not without my express permission. She put her hands on her hips and looked around in consternation. I set the bag down there by the shuttle, and I wasn't away from it for very long. She crouched to peer behind the panels that leaned against the side of the shuttle but saw nothing in the shaded space beneath. She popped to her feet when the Betazoid doctor reported the dramatic increase in the number of creatures in the trees, her brow furrowing in concern. Eyes on the trees, Saya called out, Let's set up a perimeter guard and try to get some scans in the trees above and around the clearing. A couple of engineers left the building efforts to assist the security officers in carrying out her orders. Saya tapped her combadge: =/\= Ozu to Ellis. I hope I'm not being alarmist, but Dr. Sren now reports that there are a dozen of the creatures in the trees, all in some kind of pain. I'm becoming quite concerned that they might attack if they feel they are under threat or that there may be some predator around agitating them. We're setting up a perimeter now. =/\= Lurai Sren Thea Baker [ Thea - LZ1, Kerelia] When another plausible explanation was given for the animals pain, it was definitely something else to consider before Sren also admitted to Saya that she hadn't seen the missing hypospanner either. Although as the Ensign then acknowledged her suggestion of checking the crates and preparing them to be moved accordingly, the CMO couldn't help but steal another glance towards the trees. Thankful for the momentary distraction, as Saya accepted her offer of help and understood where she was coming from, when she explained that none of the other engineers wouldn't of took it. " Not a problem at all Chief, this whole situation seems to be getting stranger, the longer we're here but hopefully we can find your hyperspanner".Following Saya as she told her where she had set her bag down, before stopping as Lurai informed them that there were more of the creatures, which only confirmed Thea's earlier fears of something strange going on. To have a dozen or so creatures all experiencing pain was equally worrying and wholeheartedly agreed when Saya then wanted a perimeter guard to be set up and for them to try to scan the trees from above and around the area they were in. " Good idea" she replied, turning towards Sren as Saya then contacted Captain Ellis again. " Ensign, leave the crates for the moment, so we can do these scans and hopefully find out what's going on".
tag Ozu Saya & Lurai Sren [In the trees, "LZ-1", Kerelia]One had been joined by another. And then more. And then too many, but the strong trees of old were sturdy, and held them safely. They stared with their sets of unblinking and black eyes, keeping their sensitive skin beneath the shade of the canopies, only venturing out when they had clear paths. The newcomers were loud. The newcomers disrupted the flow of the air. The newcomers hurt. They approached. They wielded weapons at the trees. One, who had been hurting the longest, sprang from the safety of its branches and straight at one of the newcomer's eyes. Less than a heart-thud later, the many followed. They would end the hurt. ~~~ [Crewman Mehl, daughter of K'tozh - LZ-1 Perimeter, Kerelia]Having received orders to form a perimeter, Mehl had immediately moved away from the mundane task of erecting a wall of some kind, and volunteered to stand watch instead. The klingon warrior felt it a much more prudent use of her time. She joined a quickly forming, but loose, line, and followed everyone else's gazes up into the trees. If there was something up there that threatened them, she would eliminate it. Her hand rested on a standard issue Type II phaser when her sharp eyes picked up movement. But as highly trained as Mehl was, and as quick as her reflexes might be, she was still no match for the things that shot out of the trees. Chaos reigned all around as the small creatures with the wicked sharp claws and drooling jaws began to scurry with impressive speed around the camp. With powerful leaps they bounded through LZ-1, leaving pandemonium in their wake. {Spoiler}{Click me, if you dare.}

[ Chief Ozu Saya - LZ 1 - Kerelia] Saya couldn't suppress a small squeak of shock as the strange little creatures suddenly descended on their camp. She fumbled as she tried to get her weapon in hand, almost dropping it. Out of the corner of her eye, she saw Lurai hide but couldn't spare too much of a thought for her. There were shouts around the clearing and a few phaser beams streaked through the air, narrowly missing the fast-moving creatures. Stun! Only stun! Saya yelled over the chaos. She aimed at the creature attacking the Klingon crewman and fired, but her shot went high. Saya cursed quietly in Vulcan. For a people that suppressed their emotions, they had some rather creative expletives. =/\= Ozu to Ellis. We're under attack! Return immed- =/\= Her words were interrupted by a scream as one of the alien creatures latched onto her ankle and bit her calf. She tried to shake it off, but it clung tenaciously. Saya turned her phaser downward and took careful aim, even as pained tears ran down her face and green blood down her leg. Her first shot went into the ground. As Saya aimed again, she thought how utterly ridiculous it would be if she managed to stun herself in the process, followed by the less amusing thought that the creature would probably then kill her. The second shot was true, grazing along the beast's back and causing it to go limp. Saya turned her gaze back to the poor Klingon, wiping a sleeve across her eyes to clear her blurred vision while her leg throbbed with pain. Another shot went wide, and Saya growled in frustration. [ Thea - LZ1, Kerelia] Everything seemed to happen in a blur as Thea saw Lurai stop what she was doing, before the camp became swarmed with creatures that looked like something from a nightmare. Part of her wanted to shut out the terrifying image, knowing it would probably haunt her nightmares. But at the same time, she needed to focus, especially when they launched themselves towards Crewman Mehl, causing havoc and chaos as more of them descended. Thea was vaguely aware of Lurai finding a hiding spot, before Saya shouted out to everyone in the vicinity to stun the creatures. Her brain catching up with the need to do something, before she ended up as a victim of whatever these things were. Of course there was a moment where she wondered if these were the same creatures that Sren had detected, but as the sound of phaser fire, filled her ears and brought her out of whatever she had gotten herself into. " Hold on Sren, you too Mehl" she called out, as she reached for her phaser, only to discover that it was missing. This was all she needed as one of the creatures then latched itself onto Saya after she had called the Captain and the CE managed to shake it off her, whilst attempting to help Mehl at the same time. " Bue'quet!" she exclaimed in frustration, using one of the Klingon curse words that she had picked up from a former patient and friend. She had no idea where it had gotten too, or how it had vanished, but that was the least of her worries right now as she looked around for anything that she could use as a weapon. After a couple of seconds or what felt like longer, including several more choice curse words,Thea found some loose small rocks and picked one up. Feeling how smooth it was in her hand as she then concentrated and aimed it, towards the creature nearest Mehl. Throwing it with all of her might, hoping it would hit its target and prayed that it did, as she picked up another and threw it in the same direction to make sure.

=/\= Ozu to Ellis. =/\= [NPC - Sir Dugris "Doug" Zaman - LZ-1, Kerelia]"Your loss, Mr. Jett," Doug answered. "And go ahead, cross the Bridge of Death. The French already got you beat."The group walked, and Doug walked with them. At some point, as PooDoo (her legs being as short as they are) decided she was tired, Doug began to carry the little creature. In good time, they reached the spot. "Whoever, or whatever, took it, it wasn't much more careful than I am," he joked. "Let's look around for anything out of place. Maybe PooDoo can smell something."Doug set the small animal on the ground, and she began to explore. She walked around a bit, sniffing and pawing, until suddenly, she rushed back towards Doug and climbed up him, claws extended. "Ow!" he yelped, as a little blood came from one scratch on his lower leg. "Come on, Pood-pood! You know better!"He turned to the others. "I'm not sure what she found, but she's distraught, and I could use a dermal regenerator." [ Lyric- Hunting Tricorders- Jungle, Kerelia] The quotes did not show except for Dougs. "Feel free to use it as long as you need to," Lyric seemingly wasn't going to let the captain go without a tricorder. She was in charge and without her own tricorder, it meant that she couldn't really do anything without it. Lyric wasn't too worried about her tricorder getting lost. " You're welcome." Lyric nodded as she may have sounded over eager to search for discoveries and who could fault her for being so interested in discoveries. A missing tricorder was more important. She believed she did something right about handing over her tricorder to the captain so she could triangulate the location of her own. As they walked, she saw Doug pick up his feline pet She followed the captain and about a kilometer from where the captain had last seen her tricorder, it was scattered across the small clearing. She wondered what they were dealing with. " What are we dealing with here?" She asked, not really sure what may have destroyed the tricorder. While the captain had her tricorder, she began to search for foot prints. It was a clearing and that meant they had either walked here or flew, or went tree to tree. She continued to search for foot prints, being a little more careful about 'walking'. If she could find a print, she could probably make a 'set' in plaster. While Lyric was looking for foot-prints, she heard Doug say something about letting his Poo-Doo down to sniff around before she had spooked causing a yelp from Doug. At the time, she was starting to wonder the same thing. What took the tricorder and destroy it? "That means the 'thing' that took the tricorder is bad. What would spook a Poo-Doo?"
At the same time, a screeching animal alarm emanated from Lyric's pack. She winced visibly and immediately took off her pack. She immediately opened it and was assaulted by a smallish creature jumping from her pack on to her head, screeching in alarm. It resembled a small monkey of some kind and it clung to her head. [Felicity Ellis - Jungle, Kerelia]They'd spread out, looking around for any sign or clue as to what could have 1., taken Felicity's tricorder, and then 2. smashed it so thoroughly. She shook her head in response to Sinclair's question, having no explanation to offer. They had performed many scans of the planet's surface, and had mapped it from both above and below orbit. The teams who had visited previous to them had declared Kerelia to be without truly sentient lifeforms, and with only a small number of species of local flora and fauna to be avoided. When Ozu's next communication came in, Felicity was even more stumped. She watched Zaman's pet PooDoo climb the man like a tree while she listened to their Master Chief's report. The talk of potential predators seemed to match with the fluffy feline's present behaviour. Felicity glanced at Sinclair when she spoke again, and shook her head. "It wouldn't necessarily be "bad", in the sense of the word as we know it, Ensign. We're dealing with animals here, predators, perhaps, but definitely creatures ruled by instincts and learned behaviours."She was about to report their own findings back to basecamp, when Ozu's voice returned, this time the urgency was unmistakable, as was the scream. =/\= Ozu to Ellis. We're under attack! Return immed- =/\= Her words were interrupted by a scream as one of the alien creatures latched onto her ankle and bit her calf. Felicity's head flew toward Sinclair, who appeared to have a monkey on her, but she didn't really see her. Instead her sharp gaze moved across them all and she was walking before her mouth seemed to catch up with her. "Let's go! Move out. Double-time it back to the LZ, people. Weapons-ready, stun settings."Once out of the clearing, she paused momentarily to one side to allow her people to precede her. Inside, her stomach was in a knot and she felt a tightness in her chest, but she schooled her expression and tapped her badge to respond to Saya. Felicity was unsure if anyone would even hear her response, but she would always try, regardless. =/\= "Ellis to Ozu. We are en route, hold tight." =/\= She had no idea what it was attacking the camp, but she had a sneaking suspicion that they might be the very same creatures that she could now hear above them, rustling through the trees, all heading in the direction of LZ-1.

The warrior registered shouts and even the sounds of phaser fire, but for an appalling thirty seconds, her entire world had shrunk down to this beast and its needle-sharp claws hooked into her skin. She reached up, intent on squeezing the life out of her assailant, but that seemed to only make it dig deeper. Blood flowed freely from Mehl's face, and she continued to roar. She heard a couple of thuds. What it was, she had no idea, but it elicited some noises from the creature that Mehl thought sounded decidedly pained. It loosened its hold on her slightly, and she seized the opportunity. She squeezed around it's neck, which felt strangely soft to her, and pressed the barrel of her phaser into its body. She released the charge at point-blank range, and suddenly she was free. The beast was momentarily limp in her hand, but though Mehl's constitution was very impressive, she too was feeling the close proximity effects of the stunning. She stumbled backward, growling threats to the air, and then flung the offending thing back into the treeline. Around them the camp was being destroyed.

[Lurai Sren - LZ-1, Kerelia, base camp]
Over the noise, she could just make out Ozu and Baker calling out. Lurai's phaser was set to stun anyway, and she was working on the holding-on part. Taking deep breaths and focusing her mind, the initial surge of emotions from the pained critters was starting to even out to a level where she could handle it without being overwhelmed. Getting up on one knee, phaser in hand, she peeked out from behind the crates. The creatures were so fast! Taking aim at one of them, she shot to stun, but only hit one of the animal's back feet. It wasn't enough to stun it, but enough to render its back foot useless and definitely enough to piss it off. It turned its black beady eyes on her and she could sense its pain and anger upon being injured. Lurai ducked back in behind the crates, but the swift-moving alien leapt up onto the crates. She fired another phaser shot, which missed, and the creature jumped at her. Throwing one arm up to protect her face, she felt the razor sharp claws slashing into her arm. Crying out in pain, she lashed out blindly at the creature and managed to hit it over the head by slamming her phaser against it. The animal shook its head, but she could sense that it wasn't going to give up. Lurai scrambled out from behind the crates, the furious alien jumping at her for round two.

[Kerelia, Jungle] Looking back on it, Caroline supposed she ought to have left the problem-solving to the ensigns, considering she was here to observe. But, she couldn’t help offering a solution when she saw an issue arise. She was just too helpful for her own good, a virtue and a failing. It was disappointing not to get a rise out of Jett or Captain Ellis, though the latter did seem amused. Not enough to get a good feel for testing the waters of their relationship though. She took the tricorder Jett had handed her and made the appropriate adjustments before returning it to him. Much as she knew how to use them, that wasn’t her job right now. ”There ya go, do with it what ya will. I should be watching the crew, not the sticky fingered nature.” Or you, was silently implied. ”It’s too bad, I am fun once you get to know me.” The last was said quietly, almost a sigh as she walked away from the leather clad man. It seemed the scientists had gotten a lock on the captain’s missing tricorder. Caroline resumed her observation. Trying to be unobtrusive and objective was really boring sometimes. [Jungle Kerelia] As the team moved on for the search of the Tricorder, Jett remained steady at it said it was moving. Maybe an animal was attractive to how shiny it was. As she was mentioning the issue and was able to problem solved the issue with the Tricorder “Thanks, Science was never my suite” . Jett responded. As he heard the comment that she was fun if he got to know her. He proceeded not to take the bait and focus on the task of finding the Tricorder. [NPC - Sir Dugris "Doug" Zaman - LZ-1, Kerelia]"Your loss, Mr. Jett," Doug answered. "And go ahead, cross the Bridge of Death. But, if we do…hopefully, the animator would have a heart attack” Jett responded as it was a hint that he saw the same movie which he spoiled the ending for everyone in the Science team. Jett listened at the person as he was hurt by his pet. Jett reacted by keeping walking as it was none of his business. [Felicity Ellis - Jungle, Kerelia]They'd spread out, looking around for any sign or clue as to what could have 1., taken Felicity's tricorder, and then 2. smashed it so thoroughly. Jett heard the message as he stopped as to what destroyed the Captain’s Tricorder he did not have much of an explanation As he heard that they were attacked Jett nodded at Felicity and said “Got it”. The man began moving and check his pulse pistols. As he observed the creatures in the air. He felt a surge of adrenaline coming to him as he remembered hearing about friends and allies being attacked. As they began running he mentioned “I have a pulse pistol that we can borrow if anyone needs it” . Tom informed the party. As he continued he looked at the away team and remembered that most of them were not soldiers but scientists and explorers. The man pulled out his primary pistol and checked the settings for Stun as the Captain ordered. The man pointed the weapon into the ground as he was trained and moved quickly to the LZ. As they moved Jett would have tried to touch her shoulder once to get her attention. “Captain, if I may say something, we don’t know if these creatures are sentient or how the Communicate. They might have basic Tactics” . The man offered in a low tone of voice not to attract attention to everyone in the group. The man then said “Captain, I request authorization to drop my gear and scout before the group. We could be walking into an ambush”. Tom did not mention it but he was willing to take the initial risk by himself. They had several blue Starfleet Officers and a Civilian. He wanted to break off from the group and see what is happening first hand. There was a chance that they were more intelligent that they thought or rather someone or something which controls them can at the same time.

[ Thea - LZ1, Kerelia] There was a small amount of sheer vindictiveness and victory as the stones made contact with the creatures surrounding Crewman Mehl. Although she hated to see an animal suffering, in this case, she couldn't feel to sorry for them, given what they were doing to not only the crew but also to the camp, they had barely begun to set up. It was still a mystery why they were in pain and why they felt the need to attack. However those questions may never be answered as she prepared to pick up more stones. That was until she saw Crewman Mehl, get hold of the creature attacking her and managed to launch it back towards the trees, which was impressive. The move by Mehl also highlighted her injuries and Thea knew that she had to get to her, to treat her. The CMO was also very much aware that Mehl wasn't the only to need medical attention, even more so as Sren found herself battling with a creature, who seemed as equally intent to hurt her fellow medic. How she hadn't become a target she didn't know as she mentally assessed the situation, glad that she had more stones as she pivoted slightly and aimed it at the creature attacking Sren, hoping that luck would continue to be in her favour. Hearing it connect, she then called out to Sren and Saya. " Both of you, get back behind the crates if you can, use stones if needed, I'm going to help Mehl, then I'll be over to treat you both".It wasn't ideal but considering everything, Mehl looked the more severe at the moment and prayed that her luck wouldn't run out as she raced over to the injured Klingon, glad that she was still carrying her kit. " Let's get you fixed up Crewman, I was impressed by how far you threw that thing, whatever it was".Getting out the necessary equipment, Thea then began to tend to Mehl's injuries, hoping that the creatures wouldn't come near, especially without her having any more stones or her phaser.

=/\= Ozu to Ellis.

[Crewman Mehl, daughter of K'tozh - LZ-1 Perimeter, Kerelia]Mehl's scream as the creature attached itself to her face was blood-curdling.

Mehl took care of her own attacker, and Thea was headed over to help the Klingon. Saya was headed for the stack of crates when Lurai scrambled from behind and Thea ordered them back. Saya took a few more shots at the alien creatures, all of the phaser blasts going wide since she didn't take the time to aim. It did seem to keep them clear of her, though, at least for the moment. Come this way, Saya shouted to Lurai. Under the panels! Better for defense. She gestured for the modular panels still leaning against the side of the shuttle. They would be protected from above and have a smaller area to defend at each end. Saya reached for the young doctor to pull her in that direction.

Razortoes might have been a better name for your little beastie there. I wonder what spooked it.” Her voice got a bit quieter, a little uneasy. ”You don’t think it’s birds, do you?” Caroline squinted suspiciously at the surrounding trees. ”Birds are the worst.
[Jungle, Kerelia] Caroline was already making her way over to the eccentric civilian scientist, dermal regenerator in hand. Mentally, she was patting herself on the back for remembering to pack her small emergency med kit. ”Sir Zaman, right? I can lend you a hand with those scratches. I’m a counselor, not a surgeon, but I can manage some first aid.” Once she was close enough, she dropped to one knee to eye the gouges his weird pet had made before applying the regenerator. ”Oof, any deeper on some of those punctures, you might have needed a surgeon. Razortoes might have been a better name for your little beastie there. I wonder what spooked it.” Her voice got a bit quieter, a little uneasy. ”You don’t think it’s birds, do you?” Caroline squinted suspiciously at the surrounding trees. ”Birds are the worst. Black, beady eyes, pecky beaks. And the swooping.” The slight woman shuddered, only partially for effect. As Caroline watched nearly all her crewmates pull out their standard issue phasers and head back to the landing zone, she nervously approached the Captain. There was no time for beating around the bush, it seemed. ”Ah, Captain Ellis. Given the data we had on Kerelia, I uh, neglected to bring a weapon in favor of a med kit and… more provisions. I wasn’t expecting a massive animal attack.” She looked down at her feet before she hastily added, ”I’m also… not weapons certified. Not entirely anyways.” It was probably for the best that she left out what her weapons instructor had added to her record, that she was more hazardous with the phaser than anything she’d be firing one at. Probably for the best.

The poor thing must've been horrified. Then, one of the teal-shirts came to help him out. "Believe me, I know what she could do to me, and since her kind can live into their 40s in nature, she'll be doing it to me for a long time," Doug replied to her. "Please, call me Doug, and thank you."[Felicity Ellis - Jungle, Kerelia]They'd spread out, looking around for any sign or clue as to what could have 1., taken Felicity's tricorder, and then 2. smashed it so thoroughly. Promptly, they ended up called in the opposite direction, back to the landing zone. "I have a phaser pistol on me, but someone else can borrow it," he shared helpfully. "I happen to excel at starting fires, throwing projectiles, and throwing projectiles that are on fire. Molotov cocktails are my specialty."He'd gotten in trouble for throwing Molotovs in the past, but he firmly believed they were among the finest weapons.

As Caroline watched nearly all her crewmates pull out their standard issue phasers and head back to the landing zone, she nervously approached the Captain. [Felicity Ellis - Jungle -> LZ-1, Kerelia]Felicity remained mostly quiet while the others offered their theories about the "creatures". For now, they were nothing more than that, for none of them had even caught a glimpse of what these things were yet, and all they knew was that their basecamp was under attack. Yet she listened, and continued to gesture forward in front of her, hoping to herd them all in the right direction. She had no idea if they had tactics, or if they were hunters or leading them anywhere; she would just have to take what was presented to her at face value, and act in such a way that would ensure the safety of her people. However, when Jett offered to scout ahead, she nodded. "Do it," she affirmed softly, very much wanting someone leading ahead if she was to direct from the rear. She was falling in at the back of the group, checking the stun settings on her own phaser and trying to keep an ear out for further, telltale rustlings, when their counselor approached. When she reported that she not only had no phaser, but wasn't even certified to use one, Felicity found herself looking at the Lieutenant with a very doubtful expression. It was standard procedure to arm oneself on an away mission, she knew that Riordan knew that. It was also standard procedure to get your certification. Otherwise, you really had no business ever going off-ship. "We'll have to fix that when we get back to Front Ear, Lieutenant," she replied wryly. "Perhaps in the meantime Sir Zaman can teach us how to make Molotovs."She cocked her head to one side, signalling Riordan to fall in beside her. "Stay with me," she said in a quiet tone to her, before raising her voice to address the others ahead, "Pick up the pace, people! We're still about half a klick out!"She kept forward, and it wasn't long before they'd be able to hear the sounds of chaos coming from their camp. But before they could burst into the clearing, the critters burst from the tree tops, and leaped directly for them. A pair of the hairless, almost glistening things came barreling toward the small troop. In fact, almost every member of the group was about to be set upon by the knee-high terrors. All with the exception of Thomas Jett; who drew no attention at all.

" Let's get you fixed up Crewman, I was impressed by how far you threw that thing, whatever it was".Getting out the necessary equipment, Thea then began to tend to Mehl's injuries, hoping that the creatures wouldn't come near, especially without her having any more stones or her phaser.
tag Lurai Sren , Ozu Saya , Felicity Ellis [Crewman Mehl, daughter of K'tozh - LZ-1 Perimeter, Kerelia]"What are these baktag, Doctor?" Mehl demanded, not quite ready to hold still. She shifted her weight from one foot to the other, ready to move at a moment's notice. She'd been caught out by the animals once already, she vowed internally to never allow that to repeat. The klingon tightened her grip on her phaser with one hand, and swiped some blood from her face with the other. It was dripping freely down her cheeks and down her neck and chest at that stage. There were still screams and shouts and bangs - the sound of battle - all around them. It called to her, but as she watched the vicious little things advance through their camp, she could see that their movements weren't random. They were crashing through, but they weren't stalling for individual skirmishes. "Make it quick!" She growled when the Chief Medical Officer began to see to the deep cuts just below her temples. Then she ducked her head as she realised who it was she'd been talking to. "My apologies, ma'am. I meant no disrespect. I merely want to give chase to these creatures, so that I may restore my personal honour." Mehl should never have been such an easy mark. But while she received medical attention, the sounds around them began to quieten. Almost as one, the attacking animals broke off and scampered back into the treeline, leaving behind them destroyed equipment. Crates and containers had been overturned, tools had been smashed and consoles, yet to be integrated, had been raked by sharp claws. The place was a mess. Beyond reach, the many fell silent, but continued to watch.

Isaiah Quinn - Jungle, LZ-1, Kerelia] Judging from the reaction of Dr. Zaman's pet PooDoo, Isaiah felt that the creature had recognized the scent of whatever had been responsible for taking the Captain's tricorder. It was obvious that it was nothing less than fear that drove him back to the safety of his master's vicinity, seeking to climb up into the El Aurian's arms. He agreed with Lyric's assertion that it was a predator. Though he still had some question regarding how sophisticated they had been in their hunting practices. There just wasn't enough evidence to support it, but there also wasn't enough evidence to dispute what Lyric was suggesting either. Isaiah immediately began to make certain that his phaser was set to stun after the Captain called for them all to do so. It seemed that the camp had fallen under attack by some sort of native creatures. Isaiah couldn't help but wonder just how credible Lyric's suggestion had been at that point. It was then that Jett suggested that he go ahead and scout the situation. It was an odd request, but the fact that the Captain agreed to it gave a bit more credence to the man's skill. She certainly wouldn't send someone into the jungle alone after the comm from the rest of the away team. It only further begged the question of exactly who Jett was. A mere civilian and acquaintance of the Captain's seemed highly unlikely. Still, that was a mystery for another time. He listened as Counselor Riordan stated that she didn't have a phaser, instead opting for a medical kit. Isaiah had every confidence that it would certainly be handy shortly. Dr. Zaman had offered his weapon, stating that he was more proficient with projectiles. Isaiah began to wonder just how much support they would be. Though, that would be difficult to determine until they had actually returned. He began moving at a brisk pace through the jungle. He was hardly perturbed by the run, but he did continued to glance over his shoulder occasionally to see how the others were keeping up. He could hear the Captain urge them on, and noticed she had beckoned Riordan to keep pace with her. Likely to try to keep the counselor safe, given her lack of confidence in her own proficiency with a phaser. As they moved through the jungle, a thought came to Isaiah's mind. Perhaps a way to make use of the resources they had on hand. "Captain!" he called back in mid-run. "The shuttle's engines. Perhaps if we fi-aah!" Isaiah quickly felt something drop on his shoulders from above. The momentum sent him tumbling forward, and whatever had dropped managed to latch on rather tightly. He heard what he could only perceive to be a snarl in his right ear, and felt something sharp digging into his left shoulder. His collision with the ground had dislodged the phaser from his hand as it had tumbled a couple of meters away. Reaching up, Isaiah's fist collided with some mass of flesh that was near his ear. The creature tumbled backwards, and Isaiah quickly turned to see something with about as many eyes as claws. It gave another snarl and then rushed towards him again. As it leaped towards him, felt what he thought to be it's claws dig into his lower leg. He gave a slight cry and then gave a swift kick to force the creature away. He then rushed towards his phaser. He managed to fire a beam at the creature as it came to him once more. The beam hit the creature, just as another dropped from above, digging it's claws and teeth into his arm. He cried out in pain, and then instinctively drove his hand towards the creature, a few of his fingers. raking across the eyes of the creature, forcing it to release its grip. He then took aim at the creature as it tried to scurry away to regroup, the beam hitting it in the back. Isaiah quickly glanced around as he attempted to appraise the chaos that had engulfed them.

[Kerelia – Just outside LZ]
Tom nodded at Felicity as she allowed him to go ahead of everyone else. He was not sure of the situation but he knew just charging in blindly is a good of potentially getting the group killed. The first step is to get intel. As much as he wanted to help everyone on the landing site, his first instinct is to do it smartly.
Jett listened to Lyric’s theory and remained silent. He had no wisecracks, no comments, or anything to respond. He pondered that they were dealing with a predator, but he also wondered the cause. Territory, Food, Resources, creatures become hostile for different reasons. Until they had more information, it would be hard for Tom to figure more pieces of the puzzle.
He was permitted to Scout ahead and he reacted by taking his pack off and only carrying his weapons. He looked at the group as he heard that Cara only had probably basic theory on weapons. Seeing that all of them were wearing blue, it would the bigger priority keeping them alive. He trusted Felicity's combat experience and the ability to keep the group alive.
Before leaving, he said “Be Careful” . To the group. He then began walking quickly and lowly. He muttered to himself as he was talking he acted like a female “Hey Tom…let’s go explore this beautiful planet”. The man was walking silently as he carried out the conversation. Tom responded to himself. “Ohh, yes that sounds fine….
He continued the walk as he tried to mimic Felicity’s voice “See this planet is soo pretty”. Jett continued his walk and said “Little do we know that we might end up on Planet Australia, where every animal there is trying to kill you”. Jett muttered to himself as he tried to get a better view of the LZ.
As he approached the LZ area, he dropped down onto the ground and began crawling to a ledge. He had his pistol on had and tried to see what was happening in the LZ from the distance. From the corner, he could observe that Thea was treating Mehl and the creatures. Other people were trying to hide or using Panel’s to help their defensive.
The creatures moved as a group and they moved together. There was a pattern in their movement as it was not random but it would be hard the reason why. “Ok…so they like grouping together and move together. Tom remained silent as he pondered what he meant and how he could use it to their advantage.
The man took a second and thought if they go into the high ground and do covering fire it would give them some relief from the distance. They walk in with the numbers and their movement they would be more susceptible to getting overwhelmed. “They don’t seem to have as much range as our weapons”. Jett spoke to himself as he was thinking of what to report to the Captain.
He would turn around the place in which the group would be and would have tried to communicate visually with the Captain via hand signals. Tom did not know how they would attack. They could be attracted to noise. “What is going on there?” . Tom muttered to himself as he was expecting the group to pay attention to his location and his signals.
He realized that they were under attack and Tom looked at the situation. “Crap!”. He muttered to himself as they attacked everyone else but himself. Tom was curious as he was closer to the LZ. It did not appear to the random and it made no sense. He tried to quickly to get to the attack area as he approached he shot one of the creatures from a distance. It was controlled as all of the movement and chaos would not permit him to shoot at Ensign Quinn's one as it was too close. Tom did not want to accidentally hit someone. Then he saw his opportunity. In the middle of the Chaos, Tom calmly held his pulse pistol and took aim to his target.
He pointed his Pulse Pistol directly at Felicity’s face. He then yelled “Get Down!”. Hoping that she would follow his request.

[Costa - Caves, Kerelia]Oblivious to the strange activity above the surface, Costa, with her breath held, was busy scraping the glittering rocks under the water. She'd located what she considered to be the perfect sample, and with the wide blade of her machete, was trying to dislodge it. At regular intervals she had to stop and break above for breath, but she was so focused on the task at hand she saw nothing but the sparkling shiny. Eventually she loosened one of the gems, which had been buried in the rock, enough to free it. Grinning broadly at a curious, colourful fish, she tucked the stone into the cup of her bra. Then she let go of the uneven stone wall she'd been hanging on to, and let her natural buoyancy take her back to the surface. She broke, sucked in a huge, exultant breath, and then paddled back the short distance toward the ledge. It took her a second to notice the very ugly thing bent over one of her boots. The pair stared at each other for a moment, it blinking its six sets of eyes, her widening her measly one set. Then she let a roar out of her, raised her arm from the water and brandished the blade. The thing hissed at her and she launched herself out of the water. With her bio-mechanical arm she heaved herself up, and grunted with the pain in her ankle when she kicked her legs. As soon as she was clear, she stabbed at the ugly alien cave creature. It was still hissing, but it backed up and skittered away from her and her blade. It was only then that she noticed the roof above her was moving. She glanced up and inhaled sharply at the sight of dozens of the grotesques, hanging almost upside down, and scarpering for the exit. They paid her little heed, seemingly intent on reaching the outside world. Costa hurried and began to pull her pants on, grimacing at the positions she was contorting her foot into. She plucked her comms device out of the boot the thing had been pawing and pressed it. =//= "Hust. Kepelésh to?" Her voice was very quiet, barely above a whisper as she eyed the departing creatures and tugged on her boots. "Mowteng to bek fo da kapawu. Lock im xox gut, sasa ké?
