" Take us back to the Nebula, Mr Graham" she said as she then opened a channel to Sickbay. =/\= Bridge to Sickbay, medical assistance is needed in Cargo Bay 2, we have three confirmed unconscious individuals =/\= With that done, there was one last call to make. =/\= Mac to Falcon, we have Captain Jett and those from the Royal ship, we'll keep hold of him for the time being, Mac out =/\=[...] As he observed and the Princess was scared, ask they asked the Red Forces to drop their weapons. “Shouldn’t have gloated. It sucks not having weapons.” . Tom responded as he observed them and they complied and dropped their weapons. They raised their arms as they surrendered. As the Caitlan Petty Officer came to him and welcomed him into the Mac. Tom looked at the Petty Officer and responded “Thank you Petty Officer and the Mac for your assistance. This is Princess Victoria “. Jett said as he introduced the Princess to the Petty Officer. He then would glance over her and said “Don’t worry, you are safe here” . Tom mentioned as he wanted to reassure her that Starfleet won’t kill her. Him, on the other hand, a completely different story. He looked at the ship and smiled at the irony. Out of the ships in the area it HAD to be her ship. The Mac. Captain Ellis ship he could just imagine how she would probably gloat that she had to save him. As the Caitlan looked at his trademark leather pants and made her comment. He responded “Everyone is always a critic” . Victoria looked at Jett and asked “Your outfit seems different than the rest of your people. Why is that?” . Tom rolled his eyes and responded “It’s a cool style people” Tom explained as he raised his hand up in the air. He just saved her life…and the first question was about his Leather Pants. Why do people care about his Leather Pants soo much . He wondered. It was clear that they would be escorted to the Observation deck and probably be debriefed by someone. As they took time maybe the Princess would give them more background of what the heck just happened. [Ens. Isaiah Quinn - Bridge, USS Mac] Isaiah finally felt like he could take a breath. Despite the fact that the royal ship had been saved, it seemed that all the remaining lives had been spared, and without further incident. Petty Officer S'Riia reported to the Bridge that the transport had been completed and that even Captain Jett was aboard. With things seeming to be falling back into order, Isaiah turned his attention back towards the long range sensors, wanting to take a few moments to see what else he could discern about that nebula. He overheard Thea's orders to have Jett brought to the Observation Lounge, as well as the orders to Mr. Graham to bring them underway back to the nebula. That was his cue to dedicate more of his attention to that nebula. How exactly did a nebula just suddenly appear? He certainly hadn't heard of anything like that happening before, which begged the question, how was it even possible now? ********** [NPC - PO1 S'Riia - Cargo Bay 2, Deck 9, USS Mac] One of the security officers moved to collect the weapons at S'Riia's direction, as she didn't want them to be a continued issue. She watched as Captain Jett gave a slight taunt to his earlier opponents, but then he shortly turned to her and gave his appreciation for the Mac's assistance. "Of course, Captain," she replied. She then turned her attention to the young woman he identified as Princess Victoria. She was definitely young and probably very innocent. She certainly didn't appear to carry herself as any sort of head of state. She was timid and seemed rather depended upon Captain Jett. "Greetings, Princess. Welcome aboard the USS Mac."He had just finished commenting on S'Riia's expressed appreciation for his attire when Lt. Commander Baker's voice was heard over the comm. S'Riia waited until the orders were concluded before responding. "Understood, Commander. S'Riia out." Her eyes then fell upon Captain Jett and his guest before she waved over a pair of the security officers. "Bishop. Dolan. Please escort Captain Jett and his guest to the Observation Lounge." She didn't feel inclined to add anything else, since Lt. Commander Baker, or even Captain Ellis herself, would let the pair know when they were relieved of the task. S'Riia gave the pair a nod and then turned her attention to the others. She realized that she still didn't know who the Samarans were and exactly how this feud had started. Yet, anyone that was hellbent on destroying an entire bloodline typically believed the actions were justified. The question was why. Perhaps she could gather some intelligence that Baker and the captain could use moving forward. Besides, those in charge had view on things, but those that followed orders sometimes had a unique perspective. She took a few steps closer, her arms crossing in front of her chest. "Gentlemen," S'Riia began, "I want to inform you that my commander has agreed to have medical staff report here to see to your injuries. As of right now, you're not prisoners, but guests. Though, I'm afraid we have a mission to finish before we will have the opportunity to contact your government." S'Riia looked over her shoulder and then back at their guests. "Can I trust that you will not cause trouble while you're aboard this ship?

[ Thea - Bridge, USS Mac] Confident that they would succeed in the last part of their plan, Thea unmuted the channel as Lord de Leon responded to her last communication. Listening as he corrected her about what title she should of used, okay that was fair but then again, she didn't know that so let the comment about their bad manners slide. But when he informed her that the Freighter had fired on them first, Thea made a mental note to get Jett's side of the story, that's if they didn't end up putting him the Brig for getting them involved in what was clearly an internal matter. There would no doubt be words exchanged as Lord de Leon, then spoke about how they wanted to develop diplomatic relations with the Federation and potentially share technology. This was definitely an interesting turn of events, however before she could respond, the channel was cut as de Leon mentioned about withdrawing after finishing with this internal matter. Thea dreaded to think what he would do, as Niles confirmed that the beam out was in progress, before notifying her that the other ship had withdrawn the lock that had been placed on them and the Falcon and how they were now targeting the royal ship instead. Lost for words as she turned to see the Royal ship explode into a million pieces and atoms at Niles' warning and hoped that they had managed to get the people off it in time. She was about to ask when the Tactical officer asked if he should engage the retreating lead ship. " No, stand down with weapons Mr Niles, in the interests of future diplomacy and it not being the Starfleet way, we won't be firing on them today and also return us to normal as we won't be needing the red alert anymore".Turning towards Quinn when he said that transport was still in progress during the explosion, Thea's heart churned at the thought of losing those people, until there was a call from S'Riia. He thought that it would be a good idea to have them going at the warp speed of nine. He had no idea what would become of it and what would happen once they got to the nebula. They could encounter a variety of different scenarios once they arrived there. Instead of possibly overthinking everything he stayed focused on what he was doing and what was there in front of him. He didn’t think that it would take them long to get there. tag Thea Baker

[Unknown Nebula - Six Hours Later]Following the rescue of one Captain Thomas Jett, Princess Victoria and several Samaran's and the situation dealt with as much as possible, until they returned to Front Ear. The crew of the USS Mac have resumed their original mission and have just begun an investigation into the nebula discovered by Ensign Quinn whilst on route to the Falcon's aid. Where did it come from and why hasn't it been found until now?, can they answer these questions .... only time will tell.
[ Thea - Bridge, USS Mac] Six hours and Thea had to admit that she was glad to be back on the Bridge, after listening to Jett and the potential diplomatic headache that he had created. Although all they could do for the moment was to make the appropriate reports and deal with it, when they got back home. Not that Thea envied anyone who got that job, but for now it could be temporarily forgotten as they had a mission to complete. With the alert over and the Bridge back to normal, they could focus their energies on the unknown nebula that had been worthy of investigation, especially with it not appearing on any of the charts or databases which gave the crew the chance to make a name for the Mac as being the first ship to encounter such a phenomenon. As she looked out the viewscreen, the sight was truly spectacular with how colourful it was, before she turned towards Isaiah and asked for an update on the scans. " What have you found so far Ensign?".

" What have you found so far Ensign?".[Ens. Isaiah Quinn - Bridge, USS Mac] He still wasn't prepared to give up, though it seemed like nothing that he attempted was actually working. He was somewhere between intrigued and frustrated. His eyes looked at the viewscreen at the spectacle before them all. It was as if the nebula was taunting them. All of its beauty was there for them to see with their eyes, and yet there was something more hidden within. Isaiah just didn't know what that something was. He turned towards Thea once he heard her voice, and found that her query was directed at him. His brow furrowed as he tried to consolidate his update. "Well, preliminary scans gave us a breakdown of the gases present in the nebula. However," he started, "our attempts at more in depth scans have proved inconclusive at best."He was pretty certain that wasn't what they were hoping for in an update. "I'm going to try--" Isaiah began, but he soon got an unnerving chime from his console. "Commander, my sensors are down. In fact... I'm not receiving any of the telemetry from our probes." He pressed a few buttons, but got nothing. He then rose from his station and turned towards the Science II station just behind him. "I'm going to try to send another probe." He worked at the station for a few seconds, then moved back to his own to confirm what he'd just witnessed. "Telemetry went out almost as soon as the probe exited its tube. Initial diagnostics showed the probe itself was in nominal condition."Isaiah looked from his console to the viewscreen. It felt like the Mac was getting its hand slapped each time it tried to peek behind a curtain. It didn't make any sense. Isaiah continued to sift through the data that they had already accumulated. First, the nebula had appeared out of nowhere, and now it was all shy and wanting to keep its secrets to itself. Isaiah wasn't sure of what was happening exactly, but he sure as hell wanted to find out.

First, the nebula had appeared out of nowhere, and now it was all shy and wanting to keep its secrets to itself. Isaiah wasn't sure of what was happening exactly, but he sure as hell wanted to find out. [ Ens Joshua Niles - Bridge, USS Mac ] Well, being told to secure from Red Alert was all the young, enterprising Ensign needed to do just that. Still, he had found the whole encounter a little unsettling. That wasn't the way things were supposed to go. Starfleet was supposed to come in, put things to right, and if there was any shooting from one of the parties involved, it would be answered in kind by the starship dealing with the situation. But no. He had just watched some... neo-barbarians in ships that weren't far removed from the old NX-class annihilate one of their own at the word of some type who sounded not too much unlike any petty dictator he'd ever read about. Well, if he needed a reminder that the real world out there was nothing like the Academy, or even his Cadet cruise, or the semi-controlled environment of his hands-on training for his three months on the USS Fawkes, this was it. But, orders were orders, and once the ship was back in her cruising state, young Mister Niles excused himself from the Bridge to return to his other duties, which included the paperwork assignment from hell, only to come back up a few hours, and a late lunch, later as it was his scheduled time to be on watch at Tactical. Life on a starship, no rest for the wicked, let alone shiny new Ensigns. The nebula ahead was a fascinating sight. However, it was not like Joshua could spent too much time admiring it out the viewscreen, not when he had his own sensors to monitor and ensure there would be no security matters to pay immediate attention to. And, he also had to pay attention to the Bridge chatter, in case anything pertained to him. And, as it turned out, all the nice toys the Science department had to work with weren't really going anywhere. Well, that certainly was interesting, and while the Ensign at the Science stations seemed to be working on something, Niles had an idea. He wasn't quite sure of Mac's Bridge protocols just yet, but if he had an idea, what was the worst that could happen, other than be told to shut up? And besides, his major had been in high energy physics, with a minor in subspace wave propagation... "Commander Baker, Ma'am? I think I have an idea. Back in middle school, we'd take a flames to stuff to find out its properties, right? How about we do the same with controlled phaser blasts? We know how they're calibrated, so we would be entering a known quantity into the equation, right? If we record the results and compare them to what we know now, maybe we'll find what makes that nebula tick, and even find a workaround for what it's doing to our sensors and telemetry."

[Felicity Ellis - Ready Room, USS Mac]Six hours ago...The panels in the room were flashing, indicated that the ship, or her crew, were in potential distress. Yet its Captain remained rooted to the spot, her eyes flashing as they scanned the incoming data from Command. The screens granted a blueish tint to her skin and the shadows on her face grew under the dimmed lighting. Her bottom lip was tugged between her teeth; a completely subconscious movement, and she bit down on it, hard. After a few more moments of heavy silence, she spoke. "When did Orunmila stop transmitting?""Five days ago.""And this was their last packet?" Her back brushed off the seat's soft fabric as she reclined slightly, though she was still reading the lines of code and information. "Yes. Up until then we'd been receiving hourly updates. You understand what this means, Captain."It wasn't a question; at least, it wasn't one that required an actual answer. Felicity looked at Admiral Rhys McKenna. "It means we're out here with our pants down, Admiral." He didn't respond to her impertinence straight away, but the man's expression remained concerned, the frown creasing his forehead a reflection of her own. "Why wasn't I told of this earlier?"The Welshman sighed, then a tendon in his jaw made a brief appearance as he clenched. He looked somewhere off-screen, at something Felicity could not see, then he responded. "We are still holding out hope for a peaceful First Contact. For now, this is strictly need to know."She was conflicted. She was pissed at her mother for not keeping her in the loop, she was thankful to McKenna for breaking the silence and warning her, but mostly she was afraid. The odd hint that Antoinette Ellis had dropped, and her warnings to prepare for anything out here in the vast nowhere had resulted in some measures being taken to ensure their safety. But this - this was something they weren't at all ready for. "You are the closest vessel to the Orunmila's last known location," the Admiral continued, "Do all you can to find her.""I understand, sir." As soon as the link was terminated she opened another to Front Ear Station. 'Need to know' was such an ambiguous phrase... ~~~ [Observation Lounge, USS Mac]One hour ago...Felicity stood, arms folded across her chest, leaning against the archway as Dr. Baker dealt with the Jett situation. Her acting First Officer had been present on the Bridge for the entirety of the debacle, so Felicity herself felt it prudent that she see the issue through to the end. She'd been thankful for the Commander's quick thinking and clear head while she'd been unavailable, and truthfully, a little shaken, following the update from Command. If the doctor's preliminary report was anything to go by, all of the personnel on duty had worked well together and responded with speed and ease to her orders. Silver linings, she thought as she watched the civilian Captain and this princess of his with a detached air. Then, without a word, she pushed off the corner of the archway and left the lounge. She was bound for the Astrometrics Lab. She had a new project for them. *** "Sorry, fighter?" Kaya narrowed her eyes. They were kitting out fighter vessels? She began to do the math on why the Mac would need that kind of fire power, but her train of thought was interrupted by a red alert. Then Lieutenant Baker's voice sounded through the comm. And now with the battle stations. Grippen didn't seem alarmed, but Kaya couldn't ignore the shipwide change of plans. Kaya's battle station was in Engineering unless otherwise specified to put out fires both literal and metaphorical. =/\= Som to Engineering, orders? =/\= A superior officer's voice responded. =/\= As you were, Crewman. Stand by for further instructions. =/\=Kaya shrugged and mumbled to herself, "alright, then. Let's make some fighters." She tuned back into the project at hand, to Grippen and Black. Never one to turn down food, Kaya took up some kind of hot pastry thing. Mouth full, she pointed at one of the fighters. "Mmm, that one's going to give you trouble getting back out of atmo. Oh, and those there are supposed to have an integrated quantum gyroscope - really excellent handling." Then Kaya turned her attention the Ark. She leaned back on her heels and pointed at it. "We have this? Where'd we get it?" She had a look on her face. [Deck 8 - Holodeck 1] Derek automatically glanced at O'Leary, taking his cue from her regarding the red alert declaration. Being a 'new kid on the block', at least figuratively speaking, he wasn't about to jump the gun if his boss didn't, and judging from her reaction, and those of Grippen, it didn't look like anyone was in a rush. More interestingly, the holodecks didn't automatically shut down either, something he'd seen on some other starships. "I just got here myself, haven't seen the Ark yet, or how much we can modify it. At the end of the day, this is going to be a big project, and we really do need that set of requirements from our skipper before proceeding. We can find a holoprogram designer, write up a simulation to run some of these fighters through, and choose the best option from there. Would mean alot of extra work ontop of our regular duties, though. Probably double shifts, and we might get just a tiny footnote in our personnel files for all our efforts if 'Fleet brass catch wind of it. From what I've noticed, upper management appreciates initiative, but they do tend to wash their hands fast if things go sideways." Increasingly aware the senior pilot might reckon he was stealing her thunder, Derek wrapped up his thoughts quickly. "Feel up to it, Som, and maybe some of your friends from Engineering or Ops?"Just then, without warning, the deck shuddered and bulkheads rattled, Derek instinctively widening his stance to keep balance. It didn't last long, but to him, it felt like they'd just passed through some sort of subspace eddy or shockwave. Maybe it was something related to that alert status. Perturbed, he looked again towards O'Leary. "Anyone else concerned or curious about what's going on up there?" [Lieutenant Niamh O'Leary - Holodeck 1]Six hours ago...Niamh O'Leary felt like the project was getting away from her a little. She should probably feel pride that her Flight team were as professional, knowledgeable and enthusiastic as they were, but maybe the hangover was impacting on her better judgement, because her eyes were a shade greener than usual. At least they seemed to be partaking in her sausage rolls. She felt an inordinate surge of smugness when the engineer chose tasting one of her breakfast offerings over Grippen's frou-frou desserts. She found herself shrugging her shoulders when talk turned to the brass. "The Talkin' Heads upstairs will call this project everything under the sun, but never offensive. It'll be coached as a defensive precaution on paper, and they'll do whatever mental gymnastics they need in order to make it work, so they will." She shook her head and started to read the PADD in front of a smaller assault vessel. Being department head, she should probably care about the reasons behind the things they were asked to do, but she couldn't bring herself to. When Black brought their attention to the Red Alert she looked up, as though she'd just noticed it. "Ye can draw straws for the honour of gracing the hallowed Bridge, if ye want."

[ Thea - Bridge, USS Mac] Thea was sure to give Isaiah her full attention, as she prepared for him to give her an update on what may of been found, during the latest round of scans. Appreciating the science department for what it was and for how daunting this must be, considering the size of what they were seeing and the sheer amount of time, it would take to get the answers that they sought from it. Offering him a friendly reassuring smile, as she listened to him, with interest and a curiosity of her own. To hear the outcome of the preliminary scans was encouraging so they could at least understand what the nebula consisted of. However it didn't have the same excitement as getting the more in depth scans. So could understand the possible frustration with them being inconclusive so far. Although Thea was intrigued to see what Isaiah would suggest, before he notified her of an issue with the sensors. They definitely didn't need this, not after what they had gone through to get here, especially with them losing contact with their probes. So when Isaiah informed her that he would send another probe, Thea nodded as he moved to the secondary science station. However there was still bad news even more so when there appeared to be nothing wrong with the probe itself. " Acknowledged, Ensign, were we able to get anything from the probes themselves, before they stopped working?" she asked, wondering if that was the reason or if it was just the nebula itself. Not that she was about to give up trying to unearth its secrets. When Ensign Niles then offered up a solution to the sensor and probe issue. Turning towards him, Thea listened as he explained more about it and definitely gave it some consideration. Thinking that it wouldn't hurt to give it a try, but before she called the Captain and give it the go ahead, she wanted them to test it out first. " That's not a bad idea, Mr Niles, however before I go to the Captain about it, perhaps you and Ensign Quinn can run some simulations?".

[ Observation Lounge Thomas Jett & Princess Victoria
Tom gently took a sip of his drink as he waited to hear more about this fate. He already told him everything he knew to the best of his knowledge, but it was the Princess that could provide greater insight.
The drink tastes different than his usual one. As this one was replicated. Replicated drinks did not contain the same, but it some something to take the edge off. He felt tricked by the Royal family as if he knew it was a Civil War that he was getting involved in he would have acted differently. Even though he was not part of Starfleet and he disagreed sometimes with the use of the Prime Directive. He could not help but feel that there was the wisdom of letting the world deal with their own problem internally.
He looked at Victoria and explained how replicators worked. It did not occur to him that she might not know how they work. “Your highness, If you want something to drink, you go in front of that machine and you can see what they have. I am sure, that there is something similar that in your homeworld…Samara is it?” . Jett asked wanted to make sure. The time was enough that it would make her feel safe and it would not be imposing.
Victoria looked at Tom and responded “The Kingdom of Samara…and no thanks, I rather wait until a Servant comes in and serves it to me. Even in this situation, I need to appear dignified” .
Ohh boy, this is going to suck. Jett thought to himself. As he took another sip of his drink. He approached Victoria’s table and sat across from her.
“Your highness, you mentioned in your distress message that you were attacked by Pirates, but they were organized military, why did you lie?” . Tom asked as he wanted to first tested her.
“You Prude! We did not lie, they are pirates, traitors people that broke their oath to serve the people of Samara! . She answered and she took a deep breath. “The people of Samara was ruled by the Royal Family. We were disorganized, divided. Until by great great Grandfather Francisco the First, conquered his rivals and united our people in peace. We became advance and developed the theory of Warp. To take our place into the stars. We were living in a Golden Age when the Baron’s sleeked power for themselves. They declared my Father King Alfonso, the second an enemy and the Civil War began. Those traitors killed the rest of my family and now it’s up to me to lead. “. Victoria continued as he looked down for a second. She attempted to hold her tears back but Tom could see a single teardrop coming from the cheek. It was obvious to him that she was hurt about the entire situation.
“Yeah one second…. Tom said softly. As he could imagine how it felt losing a family member. He still carried the scars of not saving his mother in his childhood because he was not good enough. Tom stood up from the chair and headed to the replicator. “Whiskey Jameson, on the rocks” . Tom asked as he requested on the rocks of her. He brought the Whiskey to her and said “I’m sorry for your loss your highness. Try this”
Victoria grabbed the drink and took a sip of it. The then placed it down the table and has a face is disgust towards the drink. It was clear she did not like it “Yuck….are you trying to poison me, Captain Jett?” . She asked as Tom smiled and said “I guess is an acquired taste, your highness. .
Victoria looked at the drink and said “Y’know, I was never meant to lead my people. That honor fell to my two older brothers. My Father trained them, taught them to lead. I spent all my time learning about poetry and art, music. I was never meant to lead” .
Tom looked and said “Let’s not get too much ahead of ourselves. But, maybe that is a blessing in disguise. You can make yourselves a different image than your Father, a different type of leader.”
Princess Victoria looked confused at Jett. As she did not realize what he was trying to say. With a confused looked she asked. “Why would not want that? My father was beloved by the people of Samara. The people adored him. He was a leader in which people loved.” .
Tom then asked “Which people are those, your highness? The people that died because of him or the people that died protecting him?”.

[...] And, as it turned out, all the nice toys the Science department had to work with weren't really going anywhere. If we record the results and compare them to what we know now, maybe we'll find what makes that nebula tick, and even find a workaround for what it's doing to our sensors and telemetry."[...] " Acknowledged, Ensign, were we able to get anything from the probes themselves, before they stopped working?" she asked, wondering if that was the reason or if it was just the nebula itself. " That's not a bad idea, Mr Niles, however before I go to the Captain about it, perhaps you and Ensign Quinn can run some simulations?".[Ens. Isaiah Quinn - Bridge, USS Mac] The only thing that Isaiah hated more about the mystery of this nebula was the fact that he had to report not knowing more about the mystery of the nebula. Still, information was a commodity to be treasured, especially right now. Thea asked if he had detected anything prior to their sensors failing. Isaiah took a deep breath before answering. "Well, preliminary scans did reveal the composition of the nebula, at least the extreme portions of it. However, before sensors went dark, we did detect something in the middle of the nebula. Unfortunately, I can't tell you more than that, Commander. Nothing of its composition, but there is a mass there."In Quinn's opinion, the report was hardly helpful, but it was something. It felt like they'd been poked in the eye for trying to look through a peephole. And at this point, the nebula wasn't keen on them getting a second look. Ensign Niles then made a suggestion about using the phasers to try to attain more data. Thea then suggested that Niles and Isaiah try to run some simulations to see if it showed any promise. "Aye, Commander," Isaiah responded. He then turned towards Niles and gave him a nod. "All right, Mr. Niles," he began, "I'm going to share with you a mock up the nebula based on the information we were able to accumulate thus far. He watched as on his image formed on his screen. "I'm also going to send a variety of coordinates for you to target with... sustained phaser bursts of 3 seconds each. That should be enough to determine where we could safely poke the nebula for real."His console chimed as he sent the model to the tactical station. "I'll monitor the fluctuations to our phasers' the feedback on the phaser banks' telemetry to see what we can extrapolate," he said as he set up his console to commence with the simulation. "Ready when you are, Ensign."Hopefully, they would learn something useful for Thea to report back to the Captain. And speaking of Captain Ellis, she had certainly been busy today. Busy to the point where he began to wonder if there was cause for concern. The Captain hadn't reported to the Bridge during the red alert. Granted, it had proven to be left in the hands of a very capable X.O., he simply hadn't expected it to play out like that. And once it was over, she had barely returned to the Bridge. Whatever was keeping her busy... had to be big.

Whatever was keeping her busy... had to be big. [ Ens. Joshua Niles - Bridge, USS Mac ] "Yes Ma'am," responded Niles as Lieutenant-Commander Baker seemed to agree with the basic premise of his idea, and then asked to see some simulations before trying it live. Of course, a simulation could only do so much good, but if it could get a start to mapping the inside of the nebula, that would be at least a decent start. First real watch on the Bridge, and already he was being acknowledged for ideas... or lining himself up to step on his own genitalia in an epic fashion by trying to be the good idea fairy... As data came to his board, the Tactical officer considered the firing plan in front of him. It wasn't bad, but he did a few tweaks. "Mister Quinn, I have your data, but I'm going to modify your firing plan a little. I'm going to make it two parallel blasts in each location, close enough to cause some resonance between the beams. I think that with those harmonics, we might be able to get some low-level subspace ripples, could help us map the inside of the volume if you combine it with the feedback you're already looking for."That was a bit of a stretch. Interactions between phaser beams was something any tactical officer worth his salt would know about, but the idea of using that kind of harmonics as a mapping tool? That was something he was improvising on. In theory something like that might work... and worse comes to worse, there'll just be a need to deconflict the telemetry from multiple emitters. But hey, this was what exploration was supposed to be about, some trial and error, right? His hands danced on his board, ensuring everything would be within the simulation with no live weapons fire, and his hand hovered over the firing controls. "Initiating simulated firing plan... now."And he fired.

[ Ens. Lurai Sren – USS Mac – cargo bay] The comm signal came from Baker. ”On my way, Ma'am.” Grabbing a med kit, she headed off for the cargo bay. *** A while later Lurai did one last sweep with the dermal regenerator on the last recently picked-up patient. The other two had already been handed over to security and escorted out. ”There, we're done here”, she said with a smile. ”Now I'll have to turn you over to security, so this is goodbye.” The waiting security officer escorting the patient out of the cargo bay. Taking her med kit, Lurai headed off to the observation lounge to pay a visit to their new guests.
[Observation lounge]
Reaching the lounge, she greeted the security officers posted outside and was let in. Stepping inside, she looked around at the two guests and greeted them with a smile. "Hello. I'm Doctor Sren. Our protocol dictates that we perform a health scan on all new arrivals. May I?"

[ Ens. Lurai Sren - Observation lounge] Reaching the lounge, she greeted the security officers posted outside and was let in. Stepping inside, she looked around at the two guests and greeted them with a smile. "Hello. I'm Doctor Sren. Our protocol dictates that we perform a health scan on all new arrivals. May I?" [NPC Yeoman Heather Hill - Observation Lounge, Deck 1 - USS Mac] After a quick nod to the security officers stationed outside the entrance to the Observation Lounge, Heather slid inside, unchallenged. Sometimes working for the Captain had its perks, and not just the fancy desk she worked at. The atmosphere inside the room was… tense, and she had a feeling it hadn’t been caused by the medic who’d come to look the guests over. The younger woman, more girl really, had a look on her face that could sour milk, and it was an obvious guess it was directed at the man with her. The scuffed leather wasn’t doing him any favors, but then the years since she’d seen him last likely hadn’t been kind. He’d been a polished officer then, and she was willing to bet he wouldn’t remember a junior enlisted whatsoever. The lofty ones rarely did. Either way, it didn’t matter. She was here to do a job. ”Please, don’t mind me, Doctor. I’m just here to check in on our guests, and see what I can do to make their stay more comfortable.” Heather gave the ensign a winning smile, and turned her gaze and smile to Jett and Victoria. ”Princess Victoria, Captain Thomas Marion Jett, I hope you’ve been comfortable, of all the places to be stuck on the Mac, the Observation Lounge is probably the nicest. I’m Yeoman Heather Hill, personal administrative assistant to Captain Ellis. Please let me know if there is anything I can get for you, like a meal…”She glanced down at their table and the replicated whiskey in front of Jett. ”Or a proper drink. The replicator isn’t quite up to the real thing. Lucky for you, I have friends in high places.”The yeoman winked. Being friendly would likely yield better results than a flat out interrogation.

[ Thea - Bridge, USS Mac] The Acting XO once again appreciated the information that Isaiah was able to provide her and despite the issues that they faced in regards to the lack of sensors and in depth information, they at least had something. Okay this mass that had been detected could be anything, even something as simple as just another part of the nebula's composition, but still hopefully the simulations that she had ordered, would provide the tool, in order for them to continue. " Thank you, Ensign, I appreciate what you've been able to find so far and perhaps Ensign Niles's idea will help us to solve this mystery".That's what it was beginning to feel like and as Isaiah and Niles got together in order to work on the idea of firing controlled phaser blasts. Thea sat back and contemplated everything that had happened so far and perhaps it was now a good idea to summon the Captain back to the Bridge and update her, with what they had so far. Activating the comm, Thea then hailed Captain Ellis. =/\= Baker to Captain Ellis, I wanted to make you aware that there's been some developments in regards to the Nebula and we've also lost our scientific sensors =/\= Perhaps the sensor loss could be explained but Thea was now getting the feeling that this was just the start of something big.

[Ens. Isaiah Quinn - Bridge, USS Mac] Ensign Quinn listened as Ensign Niles suggested some modifications to the firing plan. The scientist didn't object, but simply waited for the results. As the results came in, he examined them and then allowed his fingers to dance across his console as he made some modifications of his own. "All right, let's try this," Isaiah began. "Try the firing pattern again. I'm going to introduce trace amounts of combustible elements within the nebula's composition." The scans hadn't been entirely conclusive, and given that sensors were down he didn't want to take too much of a risk. Besides, if the nebula could appear at will, who was to say that it couldn't change its composition. Isaiah turned and nodded towards Niles. "Give it a try now," he said. He waited for those results to come in, and then made another suggestion. "Try it once more, then time reduce the phasers' yield by 50%. It should reduce the risk of combustion and feedback, and still give us something viable to analyze."As their tests continued, Ensign Quinn overheard Thea making her comm call to Captain Ellis. He was curious if she'd make an appearance, or if her whatever issue she had been dealing with had been resolved. He knew that it was well above his grade, but junior officers could wonder. His attention refocused on his console as he examined the latest results from their simulations. "Let's try one more thing," said Quinn feeling a bit more adventurous. "Try simulating a consistent burst from the main deflector. Coordinate a path connecting the same coordinates that I gave you before. It certainly couldn't hurt to try it, right? They still couldn't see into the nebula with their sensors, but perhaps they could inch closer for a peek.

[Felicity Ellis - Stellar Cartography & Astrometrics, Deck 11]Nothing.Well, it was true that the vastness of space was mostly nothing, and that the outer thresholds of their scanning capabilities were absolutely finite, but still, somehow, the nothing was so disappointing. They'd been at it an hour, which in the grand scheme of the search game wasn't a very long time, but already Felicity had changed the parameters twice. She was beginning to think that perhaps their close proximity to this nebula might be causing some problems when a young ensign spoke up. "Um. Captain?""Um. Yes?" Felicity was frowning at her console, which had begun to bleep with some urgency, and didn't look up at the officer until she realised he hadn't answered. She glanced up, brow raised expectantly. "I think there's a problem with some of this sensor data." He seemed uncertain of the report, or perhaps he was just a little unsure of how to act in the presence of the Captain, who admittedly very rarely made it all the way down to Astrometrics. Inwardly she sighed, thinking that perhaps she should not take her discomfort over the developing situation out on the furtive young man. He was barely a wet day out of the Academy. That made her feel old. "What kind of problem, Ensign?" She asked, her tone lighter as she approached his station to hover oh-so-helpfully over his shoulder. He shifted a little but seemed capable enough to draw her attention to the problem. "There is no data," Felicity observed. Where there'd previously been a constant, steady stream, there was now nothing; the readings they'd been taking had stopped, seemingly without warning. "It just cut off. Must be a problem with the sensors, the array..." She stepped away and to the side and accessed the workstation next to him. "Try again, Ensign."He nodded and began the restart procedure. Moments later, his console made that infernal noise again, and he leaned back. "No joy. I have navigation, we can see the area we're searching, but we can't look at it." It was an odd turn of phrase, but Felicity followed it well enough. Her movement was sharp as her hand reached out to slap the commbadge on her chest. =/\= "Ellis to Engineering. We are having some problems with resetting some long-range, passive scans we have programmed here in Astrometrics. Please advise." =/\= It could very well be that the lateral sensor arrays were earmarked solely for use elsewhere, and with her sudden need for more covert, continuous scans, she had exceeded Stellar Cartography's allocation for the month. But then Commander Baker effectively put her musings to bed. =/\= Baker to Captain Ellis, I wanted to make you aware that there's been some developments in regards to the Nebula and we've also lost our scientific sensors =/\= =/\= "Acknowledged, Commander. I'm on my way. Ellis out." She shifted her weight slightly; a brief pause before issuing another request. "Engineering, Ellis again. Please send someone to the Bridge immediately." =/\= The Ensign beside her was looking at her, his expression more unsure than before. She offered him a small, reassuring smile, but prepared to leave nonetheless. "Once sensors come back online Ensign, I want you to focus your attentions on Sector 417-Beta of the established grid. Graviton particles only, forget the rest of the filters."He frowned, but nodded. As Felicity left the room and the doors swooshed closed behind her, she realised that she had already forgotten his name. She was quite worried, indeed, but she made a mental note to ask Heather Hill for one of her special "fact packs" on the young man. [Bridge, USS Mac]A short time later...The familiar buzz of an active Bridge greeted her before anything else. Her eyes automatically sought the First Officer, who was sitting in the center. As Felicity approached, her eyes moved over the crew present, taking note of those still on-shift. For a moment longer than the others, her gaze rested on the unfamiliar officer at Tactical I. She wracked her brain before the name Niles materialised - he'd been mentioned in Baker's report. "Status."The request was made to the Bridge at large, but Felicity would expect Thea to field it.
