[Ens. Isaiah Quinn - Bridge, USS Mac] Ensign Quinn listened as Ensign Niles suggested some modifications to the firing plan. The scientist didn't object, but simply waited for the results. As the results came in, he examined them and then allowed his fingers to dance across his console as he made some modifications of his own. "All right, let's try this," Isaiah began. "Try the firing pattern again. I'm going to introduce trace amounts of combustible elements within the nebula's composition." The scans hadn't been entirely conclusive, and given that sensors were down he didn't want to take too much of a risk. Besides, if the nebula could appear at will, who was to say that it couldn't change its composition. Isaiah turned and nodded towards Niles. "Give it a try now," he said. He waited for those results to come in, and then made another suggestion. "Try it once more, then time reduce the phasers' yield by 50%. It should reduce the risk of combustion and feedback, and still give us something viable to analyze."As their tests continued, Ensign Quinn overheard Thea making her comm call to Captain Ellis. He was curious if she'd make an appearance, or if her whatever issue she had been dealing with had been resolved. He knew that it was well above his grade, but junior officers could wonder. His attention refocused on his console as he examined the latest results from their simulations. "Let's try one more thing," said Quinn feeling a bit more adventurous. "Try simulating a consistent burst from the main deflector. Coordinate a path connecting the same coordinates that I gave you before. It certainly couldn't hurt to try it, right? They still couldn't see into the nebula with their sensors, but perhaps they could inch closer for a peek. [Felicity Ellis - Stellar Cartography & Astrometrics, Deck 11][...] [Bridge, USS Mac]A short time later...The familiar buzz of an active Bridge greeted her before anything else. Her eyes automatically sought the First Officer, who was sitting in the center. As Felicity approached, her eyes moved over the crew present, taking note of those still on-shift. For a moment longer than the others, her gaze rested on the unfamiliar officer at Tactical I. She wracked her brain before the name Niles materialised - he'd been mentioned in Baker's report. "Status."The request was made to the Bridge at large, but Felicity would expect Thea to field it. [ Ens. Joshua Niles - Bridge, USS Mac ] While specializing in Tactics at the Academy, Joshua had known that no one really went anywhere in Starfleet without some sort of a science or engineering background. And the fields of study he had chosen to focus on, in theory should apply really well here. After all, he had studied specifically high-energy physics and subspace wave propagation. Granted, he'd not done this in order to be an intrepid explorer, but if the knowledge would come in handy, then why shouldn't he use it? With the first simulation completed, he waited for the results from Ensign Quinn. One thing that he had to appreciate, it was that at least on a Bridge led by Commander Baker, junior officers could actually contribute and not just keep seats warm for their superiors. Now, there was no way to know just yet if that was a ship-wide thing or only the doctor's style, but time would tell. So, with every further test Quinn wanted to run, he complied, following the directions he was given. First a straight repeat, then one with a lowered power output, and then another one using the deflector dish. And, all within a simulated computer environment as they were trying to find something that would make the nebula tick and release its secrets. Now, if any would work if or when it would be applied to the real world, that was up to anyone's guess. "Simulation number four underway, accompanying deflector blast... now."And just then, the hiss of the turbolift door drew his eye, and there he saw her. Slim, with a red collar, and four pips. The Old Lady... who was anything but old. And, that was when it took all of his concentration to suppress the old Academy reflex to announce the urge to call "Captain on the Bridge", and instead focused on the task at hand. However, to the keen eye, it would be very clear that he did start and had grown stiff, before relaxing ever so slightly over his console.

[ Observation Lounge Thomas Jett & Princess Victoria Victoria looked down after the man barely knew insinuated that maybe her father was not as great as she thought herself. She commented on how great he was but never thought that perhaps he did have flaws himself. She wanted to ask then where to start. However, before she could ask they were interrupted by the Doctor. [Observation lounge]
Reaching the lounge, she greeted the security officers posted outside and was let in. Stepping inside, she looked around at the two guests and greeted them with a smile. "Hello. I'm Doctor Sren. Our protocol dictates that we perform a health scan on all new arrivals. May I?" As he observed the Doctor come in Jett, quickly stood up. She introduces herself as Doctor Sren and quickly observed that she was wearing blue and had the rank of Ensign. She was brunette and greeted them with a smile. Tom slightly nodded and introduced himself as well. “Doctor Sren, my name is Jett and this is Princess Victoria. “. Like he did normally, he omitted his first name in the off chance that someone remembered who he was. He turned to Victoria and explained “Don’t worry she won’t hurt you. She is going to scan you with the Medical Tricorder.” . Tom explained as he was not sure how advance was their medicine. He knew that in comparison their technology might look futuristic to her eyes. As he understood that, she was only early warp. “You can start with me Doctor” . He said as he approaches her for his scans. He was fairly certain that he would turn up ok with some minors scratches and bruises as expected to be in a prolonged firefight. It was not long before another person entered the room. [NPC Yeoman Heather Hill - Observation Lounge, Deck 1 - USS Mac] Heather gave the ensign a winning smile, and turned her gaze and smile to Jett and Victoria. ”Princess Victoria, Captain Thomas Marion Jett, I hope you’ve been comfortable, of all the places to be stuck on the Mac, the Observation Lounge is probably the nicest. I’m Yeoman Heather Hill, personal administrative assistant to Captain Ellis. Please let me know if there is anything I can get for you, like a meal…”She glanced down at their table and the replicated whiskey in front of Jett. ”Or a proper drink. The replicator isn’t quite up to the real thing. Lucky for you, I have friends in high places.”Tom wanted to respond to her kind offer, before someone got excited. “Finally! A Servant!” . For the first time from losing her parents, the Princess seemed to perk up. She approached the Yeoman and attempted to hug her. If she was able to she would lay her head down as she had a single tear. A Servant was the only thing that seemed normal in this unusual world. They were replicators, food appearing out of nowhere. No one to give you the food, a man that was more interested in himself and lied. This was comfort. “Don’t worry, we will be best friends. You will see I am very kind. You can brush my hair and we can share secrets and talk about boys. You can help me get dressed, and it would be like the stories. It will be amazing! . She smiled at the Yeoman with happiness. Tom looked down and tried to cover his face. “She’s not a Servant….she’s a Yeoman”. . He said it in an embarrassed tone as he was not sure if anyone heard it. He covered his face as he was facepalm at the embarrassing situation. “I think, I’ll have that drink now. “ . Jett mentioned at the situation unfolding in front of him. He knew that the Doctor’s scan would reveal that he was a heavy drinker.

[ Thea - Bridge, USS Mac] After receiving an acknowledgement from Captain Ellis, Thea knew it wouldn't be long before Felicity arrived, which allowed the Acting XO a moment to listen to the two officer's who were still working on the simulations. It was good hear them work well together as they made adjustments and discussed their options. The CMO was confident that they would have something, that could be very useful and once the doors to the bridge opened, turned slightly as Ellis entered. When the CO then approached and asked for their status, Thea knew that it was up to her to fill Felicity in properly. " Our scientific sensors stopped working without any warning and we lost the probes that had been sent out into the nebula. However Ensign Quinn was able to fathom that they picked up some kind of mass in the centre of it, before the telemetry and data cut out. Ensign Niles did suggest that we use controlled phaser blasts as an alternative to the sensors and I have both him and Quinn working on simulations to see if was feasible".

It seemed odd to him that the step after scanning the nebula failed would be firing phasers into it, but he was no science expert. "Pardon the interruption," Derek suggested cordially, "Since sensors and probes don't seem to work, has there been any thought about flying a shuttle in and taking a look around?" [Ens. Isaiah Quinn - Bridge, USS Mac] Isaiah continued to review the data that he got in from their simulation trials. Well, if one could call it data. It wasn't really numbers as much as monitoring the wavelength of the phasers and now the deflector's emissions. He double-checked his calculus with the computer's computations, but he was certainly learning something. He then heard the Captain's voice. Isaiah looked towards Niles. He could have sworn that he'd be that guy. Some captains enjoyed the announcement, but Isaiah didn't think Ellis cared for that sort of pomp and circumstance. At least, perhaps not while she was dealing with whatever had pulled her from the Bridge. Perhaps there was hope for Niles yet. Mostly due to the time he had spent time with Captain Ellis on the away mission to Kerelia, he got the impression that she preferred to get to know her crew, and while he had the upmost respect for her as a commander, she didn't come off as one that stood on ceremony. She had her own style of command that screamed structure, but not ceremony. Captain Ellis asked for a report and Lt. Commander Baker brought her up to speed noting that Quinn and Niles were presently working on alternatives. It was then that Ensign Black emerged from the turbolift asking if they'd considered using a shuttle to move through the nebula. The sound of Quinn's throat chimed almost as if on cue. Had he just done that aloud? "Actually, the thought crossed my mind, but I thought it best to run it through simulation to make sure it's viable before suggesting it," Quinn reported. "With Mr. Niles assistance, it appears that heat and emissions from a deflector dish wouldn't catalyze any volatile materials within the nebula," Isaiah continued. "This is all theory and based on simulation," the dreaded disclaimer that no scientist really wanted to say, but that some commanders preferred to hear, "but controlled bursts of thrusters and low-levels of impulse power could theoretically propel a small vessel through the nebula. A shuttle perhaps a runabout would likely be preferable. They offer visibility through the portholes as sensors don't appear to be reliable." That definitely suggested the pilot would have to be comfortable flying by sight. He had a few more theories worth considering, especially as it pertained to how the nebula could affect additional systems, but his ability to test those theories was limited, especially without the external sensors. He paused a moment, giving both the captain and the commander a moment to consider what had been shared by everyone.

He paused a moment, giving both the captain and the commander a moment to consider what had been shared by everyone. [Felicity Ellis - Bridge, USS Mac]Felicity had caught the stiffening of the Ensign's posture, and the corners of her mouth twitched upward ever so slightly. She had no idea if any of the others had warned the newer officers about her aversion to being announced or if they were generally just the more relaxed sort. Whatever the reason, she was glad that she wouldn't have to continually state her preferences at the beginning of every new shift. That would become tiresome, and she'd likely just have to accept the practice. How distressing. She listened as Thea began her report and took her seat next to the Commander. At the mention of a mass inside the nebula, Felicity's interest was piqued. She'd heard about a number of spatial phenomena during both her studies and travels, but the disappearing probes and this hidden, mystery center was a new one. Before she could respond though, she was well and truly distracted by an all too familiar voice. It had been some time since she'd seen Derek Black in the flesh. Her face split into a wide grin when her eyes alighted on her former CMO, standing just outside the turbolift, and naturally, offering his opinion by way of introduction to his new crew. She was struck by how little things sometimes changed, and yet, how different they were both bound to be after so much time passing, and having accumulated such vastly different experiences. Despite that, she was very glad to see him. She leaned back in her chair, finger tapping her chin as Ensign Quinn spoke up to add his own speculations to Derek's suggestion. Under normal circumstances she might stand to greet her mentor; maybe offer a salute or settle for a hearty hug, but that probably would not do for either of them at that moment, on the Bridge, surrounded by relatively new acquaintances. Instead she settled for an amused, if not slightly wry smile as she asked, "Are you volunteering yourself, Mr. Black?"If he wanted to take a shuttle into the nebula, the very same one that was lunching on their probes, who was she to deny him? She turned her attention to the Bridge's science officer. "Let's put that theory into practice, shall we? I'd like to see if we can possibly collect a little more information on the nature of this phenomenon before I send my pilots into it blind." Felicity knew that curiosity would likely win out eventually, and that she'd have to concede to allow further exploration, but that didn't mean she couldn't adequately prepare. And speaking of anomalous forces of nature... There was the matter of the "Princess" to attend to. The next subject of her focus was Ensign Joshua Niles, whose personnel details were quickly returning to her. Political family, history of service, if she recalled correctly of the young Ensign, not to mention of an age with the Lady Victoria - almost. Add to that his Sec/Tac training, and he was potentially the perfect liaison. On paper, at least. "Ensign. I'd like you to report to the Observation Lounge and ensure our royal guest is being suitably taken care of. You are to offer your services as my representative, and please, provide any protection she might need." It was such a complicated, almost loaded order, and Felicity knew there wouldn't be many on that Bridge who would fail to read between the lines. "Inform your department head that you will require a replacement here. I have every confidence in Ensign Quinn's abilities to realise your simulations without much assistance, but I would feel better with someone manning Tactical I. Thank you."She turned away and caught Baker's eye. If the Commander had nothing else to add, they could pull the trigger on their plan.

Thank you."She turned away and caught Baker's eye. If the Commander had nothing else to add, they could pull the trigger on their plan. [ Ens Joshua Niles - Bridge, USS Mac ] As more ideas to confirm what was going on within the nebula were being tabled, Joshua kept an eye on the Captain. He did not know her. Had not been formally introduced to her just yet either. But, such was life on an active starship: there was not always time to observe all the niceties of tradition and formality. In a way, he liked it: it meant there was an emphasis on getting the job done. He could live with that. But on the other hand, there was this thing about tradition and the way things were supposed to be; he had been taught that even in a crisis, as much normality must be maintained, and that as an officer, it would be his job to keep non-commissioned and enlisted members of his crew working; to maintain their morale and promote good order and discipline even when things were so bad that all would be impacted, and the chain of command could be disintegrating from casualties or breaks in communication. So odds are, in due course things would settle down... And then, she addressed him. Instantly, Niles straightened at his position, and it was only through all of his willpower that he didn't stand at attention like some first-year Cadet in front of their basic officer's training course instructors. And she had a job for him. To report to the Observation Lounge and... what?! To be the Captain's liaison to the Princess, whose existence he only knew because of the notification that had flashed across his board while securing from Red Alert? As an Ensign, let alone one who was not diplomatically trained? His mouth opened, but instead of objecting, three words came out crisply and smartly. "Aye-aye, Captain."As soon as he'd acknowledged the order, he made use of his console to request an immediate relief, as well as send a message to his department head briefly explaining the situation. Clearly, he'd been relieved of Bridge duty for this watch, but what would it mean for later ones? "Captain, one question if I may: will I still be expected to stand future Bridge watches, and do I assume my battle station remains unchanged?" After all, changing Bridge watches would mean reworking the watch and station bill altogether, and if he could be spared from is current non-bridge duties, that did not necessarily mean there was personnel available to take over his watch here permanently. And, frankly, he did not want to lose his Bridge position once that particular task would be over, whenever that would be! For a moment, his heart hammered in his ears. After all, he had just questioned his Captain, though once the answer came, without tearing his head off, he waited just long enough for his relief to arrive before he made for the Observation lounge. [...] Tom wanted to respond to her kind offer, before someone got excited. “Finally! A Servant!” . For the first time from losing her parents, the Princess seemed to perk up. He knew that the Doctor’s scan would reveal that he was a heavy drinker. [ Ens Joshua Niles - Observation Lounge, USS Mac ] Standing outside the door for a moment, Joshua took a few deep breaths. This was just one more task, one that he needed to take care of, and one he would discharge to the very best of his abilities. Already, the guards at the door had been notified of his arrival, and they just nodded at him when he finally approached the door and entered... Just in time to see a young lady, in the sort of clothing he'd never thought he'd see someone wear anywhere but a fancy dress ball, refer to a red-headed Petty Officer as a servant, and then hug her while gushing away at what she expected their relationship would be like. Even though another individual present, a male, human, this 'Captain Jett' according to the minimal information he had, tried to explain things, Niles had to make every effort to not smile, let alone laugh. A few more deep breaths steadied him, and finally he spoke. "Your Highness, I am Ensign Joshua Niles. First and foremost, please allow me to offer my sympathies for the loss you and your people have suffered today. Captain Ellis has assigned me to be her personal representative and liaison to you and your people. I... ah... understand you have some needs that need tending to, and I aim to do everything in my power to see to it they are addressed as best as possible, within the confines of onboard resources."

[bridge -> sickbay-USS MAC]
With someone else taking over at the helm it would have made sense for him to go and get a physical at the sickbay. He figured that it would be a good idea for him to be as healthy and uninjured as possible. After he was done with getting the physical done he would go to the mess hall to grab a bite to eat and interact with anyone who might be there. As he approached the sickbay he wondered who he would need to go to for it.
He was rather confused but he hoped that he would get the answers that he was looking for when he asked his questions. He only had one question to ask someone. “Is there someone I should be reporting to for this?”

[ Thea - Bridge, USS Mac] When the familiar swoosh of the doors announced the arrival of someone else, Thea instinctively turned briefly to see that it was Ensign Black, no doubt here to relieve Ensign Graham. However when the Ensign then added his own suggestion regarding their current problem with the sensors, she had to admit that it was definitely something to think about. Although that decision wouldn't be up to her to make, especially with them knowing so little about the nebula and if it would be worth the risk. Still Thea acknowledged Black politely as Isaiah took Black's suggestion into consideration and offered up a possible solution in order to include the Flight Officer's idea. Thea couldn't fault the dedication being shown to try and find a resolution to this and to also learn more about the nebula. As the Captain then spoke to Black, the CMO could tell that there was a familiarity between the pair, before Felicity told Isaiah that it was time to put the theory into practice. She could understand why the CO wanted to gather more information on the nebula before she sent any shuttles out and rightly so, considering the unfortunate fate of the probes. Then as the Captain turned her attention to Niles, Thea listened as she ordered the new officer to report to the Observation Lounge in order to be her representative and essentially babysit their royal guest. Judging by what she had seen so far, she didn't envy him for being assigned such as task. As Felicity then caught Thea's eye, Thea understood that look and had nothing to add other than her agreement, as she was equally keen to have this plan put into motion. " I'd agree Captain, let's put it into practice".For a moment Niles seemed to question the Captain after acknowledging the order, but as far as Thea was concerned, he had worked well during his time on the Bridge, before he left and his replacement arrived. ********** [ NPC - Lt Laurel Andrews - Bridge, USS Mac] After receiving the relief request from Ensign Niles, the Mac's Security Chief had decided to deal with this particular request herself, especially as she was curious as to what was exactly going on up on the Bridge. Having already dealt with the potential headache of the Princess, Jett and the Samaran's now under their watch, it would be nice to have some Bridge time, not that she couldn't fault either S'Riia's or Niles' for what they had accomplished so far. So once she arrived, Laurel acknowledged those present, catching the end of their conversation as well as the image of the nebula, that seemed to take your breath away, before she took up her station.

[Felicity Ellis - Stellar Cartography & Astrometrics, Deck 11]Her movement was sharp as her hand reached out to slap the commbadge on her chest. =/\= "Ellis to Engineering. We are having some problems with resetting some long-range, passive scans we have programmed here in Astrometrics. Please advise." =/\= It could very well be that the lateral sensor arrays were earmarked solely for use elsewhere, and with her sudden need for more covert, continuous scans, she had exceeded Stellar Cartography's allocation for the month. But then Commander Baker effectively put her musings to bed. =/\= "Acknowledged, Commander. I'm on my way. Ellis out." She shifted her weight slightly; a brief pause before issuing another request. "Engineering, Ellis again. Please send someone to the Bridge immediately." =/\= The Ensign beside her was looking at her, his expression more unsure than before. She offered him a small, reassuring smile, but prepared to leave nonetheless. "Once sensors come back online Ensign, I want you to focus your attentions on Sector 417-Beta of the established grid. Graviton particles only, forget the rest of the filters."He frowned, but nodded. As Felicity left the room and the doors swooshed closed behind her, she realised that she had already forgotten his name. She was quite worried, indeed, but she made a mental note to ask Heather Hill for one of her special "fact packs" on the young man. [Bridge, USS Mac]A short time later...The familiar buzz of an active Bridge greeted her before anything else.

The call had come over the comms suddenly for an engineer to arrive on the bridge. =/\= Oerstadt to bridge, I'm on my way. But in the meanwhile, what sort of issues are you experiencing in the reset? =/\= He might as well attempt to multitask as he began to head into the turbolift. If it was a reset problem, potentially they had missed something obvious in the reset, or it could be one of those nasty wiring issues he had been dealing with earlier in the banquet hall - either way, he was hoping it was the former. Coming out of the turbolift, he walked quickly towards the doors of the bridge as they swooshed open. "Captain, you requested engineering?

[bridge -> sickbay-USS MAC] With someone else taking over at the helm it would have made sense for him to go and get a physical at the sickbay. “Is there someone I should be reporting to for this?” [NPC - Dr. (Lt.) Kece Lunn - Sickbay, USS Mac]Kece had been enjoying some time in the CMO's office, the one that was rightfully his and yet formally still belonged to LCDR Baker, when he became aware that there was a non-Medical individual here. "Dr. Kece Lunn, surgeon extraordinaire," the Betazoid surgeon introduced himself with a rather self-assured air about himself. "How may I help you, Ensign?"

[ Observation Lounge Thomas Jett & Princess Victoria ] Tom wanted to respond to her kind offer, before someone got excited. [ Ens Joshua Niles - Observation Lounge, USS Mac ] Just in time to see a young lady, in the sort of clothing he'd never thought he'd see someone wear anywhere but a fancy dress ball, refer to a red-headed Petty Officer as a servant, and then hug her while gushing away at what she expected their relationship would be like. I... ah... understand you have some needs that need tending to, and I aim to do everything in my power to see to it they are addressed as best as possible, within the confines of onboard resources."[NPC Yeoman Heather Hill - Observation Lounge, Deck 1, USS Mac] If Jett had been paying attention, he would have caught the glance of abject terror Heather gave him as the princess flung herself bodily at the Yeoman, spouting off about girlish things like gossiping about boys. Was this kid for real? She was dressed like she’d escaped a beauty pageant. Lightly, if somewhat awkwardly, she patted the girl’s back in comfort, and attempted to extricate herself from the tangle of limbs. When she quietly spoke to the girl, her voice was firm, but not unkind. ”I think you misunderstand my position, but I will offer you any help I am able to.”The gold shirt Ensign Niles was basically a godsend. Well, Captainsend, since he’d been sent by Felicity. Heather made a mental note to make sure she had the boss’ favorite chocolates on her desk posthaste. Her professional face was back on when she addressed him. ”Ah, you’ve made it in excellent time, Ensign Niles. I’m sure Princess Victoria would appreciate any strength and kindness we have to lend in this difficult time. We haven’t had a chance to become acquainted yet, I’m PO2 Heather Hill, yeoman to Captain Ellis. I was just asking our guests if they would like a meal, and Captain Jett has requested a drink. I will see to these things now that you are here to keep them company.”The yeoman gestured to the bar against the far wall, and motioned for Jett to follow. She stood behind the bar with authority, like a seasoned barkeep. ”Name your poison, Captain. I’m a bit rusty with the fancier mixed drinks, but you don’t strike me as Warp Core Breach type. Those are mostly sugar anyways.” If she was lucky, the man was either tired enough, or thankful enough, not to question that she hadn’t been sent to oversee them by the Captain herself. Honestly, if he asked, she wasn’t sure what she’d tell him.

[USS Mac - Bridge] The expression on Felicity's face when she turned around made those bottles of whisky he'd traded to keep his name off Mac's newest intake roster all the worthwhile. Derek returned her infectious smile with a conspiratorial wink, conscious of the other unknown faces around them. Still, he continued to regard the skipper with what could only be described as a sense of pride, watching as she swiftly allocated new orders to those around her. A long way from that young, friendly, optimistic counselor who sometimes forgot it was her turn to speak. Some others had questioned his recommendation to Starfleet Medical for the newly minted lieutenant to replace him as Chief Medical Officer of Columbus, but he knew she was ready for that challenge. And look at her now. One of the youngest CMOs in Starfleet history is now one of the youngest Captains.Catching the blue collared commander's glance, Derek dutifully loped with purpose down to his station, taking over from the crewman who had previously been filling that role perfectly well. He could only imagine the helmsman had something better to do rather than sitting unproductively while their ship was stationary, and perhaps this was O'Leary's tongue-in-cheek way of fulfilling his previous curiosity about that short stint at alert status. It was certainly intriguing to listen about what was happening with the nebula on their viewscreen, rather than tucked belowdecks wondering where they were going. Well karma's a bitch. Derek chuckled inwardly when Felicity voluntold him for the potential shuttle mission, a reward for making the unsolicited suggestion no doubt, and a trick he'd used himself in the past. There was some promise of exploration though, and he glanced back at the science officer reporting on those sensors issues. A good scientist to snap some pictures, maybe get a few mark-1 eyeball scans in, and someone from Ops to stop us from blowing up. Might turn out to be fun.

Felicity knew that curiosity would likely win out eventually, and that she'd have to concede to allow further exploration, but that didn't mean she couldn't adequately prepare. [...] To report to the Observation Lounge and... [...] Then as the Captain turned her attention to Niles, Thea listened as she ordered the new officer to report to the Observation Lounge in order to be her representative and essentially babysit their royal guest. A good scientist to snap some pictures, maybe get a few mark-1 eyeball scans in, and someone from Ops to stop us from blowing up. Might turn out to be fun. [Ens. Isaiah Quinn - Bridge, USS Mac] Captain Ellis had Ensign Quinn's full attention as she began to issue orders. Her first words had been to the pilot that had stepped onto the Bridge to relieve Ensign Graham. She had asked him if he was volunteering to take a shuttle into the nebula. Isaiah almost felt sorry for him, until the captain turned her attention to him, and basically tasked him to make the idea an actual reality. Lt. Commander Baker seemed to be in favor of the idea as well. His mind was already turning with how to fine-tune the idea to make it a bit more plausible. "Not a problem, Captain," was his response as he turned his attention back to his console. There was quite a bit of confidence in his voice, but Isaiah had never been the sort to shy from a challenge. As he worked, he listened as the Captain gave Ensign Niles orders to act as a liaison to their guest that had come aboard with Captain Jett. Isaiah wasn't sure if he envied the young ensign. It was a potential first contact situation, and those could often go a number of ways. He asked if he'd be able to return to his posting on the bridge once this mission was over. Isaiah assumed this was the captain's way to gauge more of the man's skills. A bit of a shakedown mission to see what he was made of. As Niles left the Bridge, the Mac's Chief Tactical Officer, Lt. Adams came aboard the Bridge and began to man the Tactical I station. It didn't take long before Crewman Oerstadt reported to the Bridge as well. Isaiah assumed he must've been summoned by the Captain earlier. Turning his attention back to his duties, Isaiah examine the work that he had completed previously with Ensign Niles. He then looked towards Ensign Black. "Mr. Black," Isaiah said to the helmsman. "I need your assistance with the finishing touches of this make shift photonic doppler. I can use the combination of a series of wide-beam low-intensity phaser blasts in conjunction with the deflector emitter to map a path through the nebula. However, I need to gauge your live reaction time to make sure you have enough advance warning while flying." Isaiah pressed a few keys at his panel before nodding towards Ensign Black. "I've just sent you a nav simulation. I'm going to try to map the path using the information we have, Isaiah said. He then looked towards Lt. Adams. "Lieutenant, I've also sent your the last phaser and deflector parameters Mr. Niles. If you could repeat the procedure during the simulation, it would be a big help. Coordinated bursts at the suggested intervals." He looked back towards the helm. "Feel free to adjust speed as you need. Once you find the idea one for you to successfully navigate, I'll be able to determine the ideal radius for the doppler.Isaiah paused a few moments to double check that he was prepared to convert the wave data he was receiving into an actual image that the ensign would be able to use. "Whenever you're ready," he said. If this worked, they should have a very decent chance of navigating into the nebula to get a closer look of what was at the center, and possibly an idea of what was knocking out their external sensors.

[NPC - Lt Laurel Andrews - Bridge, USS Mac]
Laurel had been quietly looking over the latest readings on her display as the others on the Bridge continued their conversation. Catching snippets to establish what was going on and that they were about to test a theory of some kind. This was further confirmed when Oerstadt appeared before Ensign Quinn spoke to Ensign Black who had just taken over the helm regarding what he needed the flight officer to do. The Tac Chief listened until Quinn then looked towards her.
" Acknowledged Ensign" Laurel replied as she acknowledged what he has asked her to do, in order to assist with his plan.
Returning her focus to her station, Laurel quickly brought up the information that Niles had been working on, finding it immediately and familiarised herself with it, so she would be ready to go. However her attention was then drawn to the long range sensors when they alerted her to the presence of another ship.
" Captain, Commander, I've got something showing on long range sensors, it appears to be a ship of some kind, trying to get more details on what type it is".
