[ Leanna - Blue Beta] Leanna had barely finished speaking with Sven before the plan concocted mere moments ago was just as quickly executed. There was no going back now for any of them and the Betazoid's instinct was to get out of harm's way and not end up leaving her children, without their mother. No they had lost too much already as Sven took down the third man and Izeg surrended, before Niles faced down the Clan Leader. This was sure to become a stand off with both men pointing their respective weapons at each other. Yet there was no ignoring the emotions of everyone concerned, especially as Jeren practically pleaded with Charlie to tell their story. Whatever happened next it was clear that this situation was almost over and yet what else she could she say to try and diffuse the situation between the two men. Then an idea came to her and she approached the exit, hoping she wouldn't become a target for a desperate Jeren. Standing just within the doorway, she looked towards those gathered outside and silently beckoned for Lieutenant Harmon's attention.

[ Kova Sh'qaleq - Sickbay, Front Ear Station] Peering inside as she noticed Petty Officer Swann advance into the room, Kova finally saw the Kurjarians surrender. There was a sigh of relief that left her lips. It seemed her plan had worked, with minimal casualties. Her eyes briefly glanced over at Avi. The Andorian did her best to equate the collateral damage as negligible. Hopefully, a dermal regenerator and a hypo with a nice analgesic would set the Bolian right. Looking towards the panel on the edge of the door, Kova opened a comm channel to report their status, but not before hearing the voice of Dr. Lunn declaring his dissatisfaction with the length of time it had taken to engineer his rescue. Perhaps she'd leave the EMH as it was for a while... and maybe set a timer for its reactivation. Pressing the panel, Kova began to speak into the air, seeing as she had no communicator of her own. =/\= "Kova to Eastman. Sickbay is secure. The security team is preparing to transport the prisoners," =/\= Kova looked in the direction of the Bolian and sighed. =/\= "Moz may have gotten a small scratch or something. She'll remain in Sickbay to have it tended to." =/\=Avi scoffed and rolled her eyes. She'd rather not continue any official interaction with Starfleet today. Pesky record-keepers and question-askers. "Aren't you chatty," she said and put her low-key casing of Sickbay on pause. She'd have to find her moment another time when Starfleet's Andorian (what was she now, a contractor?) was back minding her own business. Kova had claimed she didn't care what Starfleet thought of her which cast into complete mystery why she'd tie her destiny to their whims voluntarily. If Kova couldn't take Avi's well-considered advice to steer clear, that was Kova's problem. "What do you even get out of it," Avi pressed, despite Kova's hopeless loyalty. "Other than a headache?"

[Jeren and Izeg - Blue Beta Bar] [...] Meanwhile, Jeren continued his conversation with Charlie. He was pleased to find she seemed sympathetic. His contacts chose well when they singled her out for the operation. “Thank you,” he said as she pledged to publish it all. Then she asked a rather personal question. He was silent for a few awkward moments. He pondered why she was asking? Would she publish this? Eventually he broke the silence and spoke. “My two children, my thirteen year old daughter and my five year old son,” he revealed solemnly. “They were at school when our village was gassed. Supposedly they hit the wrong target...but I have my suspicions.” He was speaking quietly, his voice close to breaking. “This is not to mention the countless clansmen and women who have been slaughtered since I became leader,” he said sinking his head into his hands. [ Ens Joshua Niles - Blue Beta Bar, Front Ear Station ][...] And then, Sven Aune moved. As the Lieutenant launched himself at the third man, Niles snapped his pistol up in a steady two-handed grip, having taken careful aim at Jeren. The Clan Chief's own weapon was down by his side, not in a position to threaten the journalist, and even if this was hardly his specialty, there was no way the Ensign could miss at that short a range, or fail to react fast enough to prevent the older Kurjarian from bringing his weapon to bear. "Drop your weapon! NOW!"The normally quiet Ensign's voice had come out as a whipcrack within the bar, and while his face was an impassive mask behind his raised pistol and his eyes were hard, cold and emotionless, there was a single thought running through his mind at this time: please, don't make me shoot you. [Jeren and Izeg - Blue Beta Bar] Jeren was continuing his conversation with Charlie, focusing all his effort and attention her. Were it not for the noise, the sound of the sentinel yelping in pain as Sven grabbed him, the clattering of the dropped pistol, and the sound of the man being shoved into the floor, it was likely Jeren wouldn’t have noticed what was going on. Before he had quite processed what was happening he found himself staring down the barrel of the young ensign’s acquired weapon. He felt a little betrayed. Of course they were on opposite sides but he had no ill will towards the man, in fact he’d begun to trust him, that is at least as much as a hostage taker could trust a negotiator. Jeren looked for Izeg, expecting to see him resisting, the kid had spirit, however Jeren was shocked to find Izeg had just surrendered, laid down his weapon and put his hands behind his head. Knowing this was the end, Jeren was faced with a choice. One last desperate struggle, or give in? He contemplated for a moment, staring down Niles as he made his decision. He looked to Izeg, the young man who’s life was now probably going to be lost, either in a Federation prison or Caldonian execution block. He felt sorry, not quite guilty as he knew some of his people would have to die for Kurjarian freedom, but it still upset him as he cared deeply for his men. He then looked to Charlie and spoke softly and solemnly. “Promise me you’ll tell our story,” and with that said he grabbed his pistol and tried to take aim at Niles. He might get lucky and hit him, catch him off guard. But deep down, Jeren knew this was probably it for him. The pistols they were holding had no stun setting. Only one of them had any hope of walking away. [Charlie Fox - Blue Beta]Sadness was the first emotion Charlie felt when Jeren explained how his children had died, but it was fleeting, and quickly replaced by a righteous indignation that she was much more familiar with. "Unspeakable crimes have been committed against you and your people, Chief," she said with the confidence of someone who had abandoned the grey area, and embraced the black and white sides of this divide. She was about to ask a follow-up question, when the bar became a flurry of motion, threats, and guns. Charlie threw herself sideways off her seat as soon as she realised what was going on, intent on removing herself from Jeren's reach. It was Don't Be A Hostage 101 - when a dangerous man with a vendetta, a dead family and a big gun is in grabbing distance of you when crap goes down, you need to run. On her hands and knees, she began to scramble away, inwardly cursing the Fleet Meatheads and their impatient, itchy trigger fingers. She watched from the floor of the bar, knowing that Jeren only had his cause left to live for, and he'd likely be the most use to his people as a martyr. Inwardly, she cringed. It would make for a seriously compelling beginning and end to the story, and absolutely likely to be the catalyst for change on Caldonia once the rest of the Federation heard it. Alas, it would mean the loss of life of a man who was uniquely placed to speak for all Kurjarians. Even if those words were delivered from a prison cell. "I will tell your story," she promised again at his soft, solemn request. Her next words came out quicker, her wide eyes the only outward sign of her panic. Even though he seemed to need her to spread the word about his plight, that still didn't mean he wouldn't turn a gun on her in desperation. "But that story would be better coming from you, Jeren. Put your weapon down, Chief. Live to fight another day for your tribe, to make sure that what happened to your family doesn't happen again. While you draw breath, there is work you can do."

[ Ens Joshua Niles - Blue Beta Bar, Front Ear Station ]Having given his ultimatum, Niles was ready to fire his weapon, a weapon, he had quickly noticed, had but a single setting, which meant that if he did not intend to kill someone, it would come down to aim rather than setting. His heart was pounding in his ears, but his hands were steady. And all he wanted was for the Clan Chief to drop his weapon and surrender. The man had to have known that the moment he would take violent action, it would never end with him and his people leaving this station free yet he had tried this. Or had he been so naive to think the Federation, and Starfleet, would just back off from him once he would have been heard out after telling his tale at gunpoint? The real bitch of it, Jeren's plight was one that had resonated with Joshua personally; however, his actions, especially in his presence, meant that all this personal sympathy was gone, and he was dealing strictly with a Starfleet Officer from the Security branch rather than a mere individual. But Jeren would not play it smart. Instead, he chose to raise his weapon, but when Fox spoke to him, his movement was checked ever so slightly, catching his attention, and that bought the Ensign a split second, and that was all he needed. He shifted his aim minutely, and then his disruptor shrieked, and Jeren's weapon fell from nerveless fingers. Niles' aim had been for the Clan Chief's shoulder, and the impact had knocked him to the ground, and after the immediate shock, a scream of pain filled the room while the Ensign rushed forward, first to kick his weapon well clear of him, and second to kneel next to him to quickly take a look at his wound. However, he did take a moment to tap his commbadge. =A= "Niles to Ops, situation in the bar is under control. Four Kurjarians in custody, at least two requiring medical attention."=A= Then, he called out to Lieutenant Aune. "Lieutenant, I'd say the scene is yours now," he reported from his position. And then, he turned his attention to the stricken Clan Chief. "Sir, we would have listened. I would have listened. And, damn it all, I would have sympathized with you and your cause. But you had to attack us, you had to take hostages. Your duty is to your people, and I can't fault you for wanting to do it as best you can. But I have a duty to mine too, and I really wish it hadn't come to this, Sir."

[Cmdr. Judith Eastman(-Williams) & Ens. Mabel Henriksen - Promenade Security Offices]Judy allowed herself a smile at Vasser's cooperative manner. It was a slight, professional smile, as opposed to the broad, grandmotherly beam she could produce, but she was visibly pleased nonetheless. "I think we're good for now, but thank you for the offer," she replied. "Perhaps you and I should meet face to face, but that can wait. As you can see, I'm spinning a lot of plates at this moment."It wouldn't do for Judy not to invite Colonel Vasser for a sit-down, and therefore a meal, after such courtesy from the Nyberrite. No, the First Officer had a clear personal code, and in this situation, an invitation was proper. Out of the corner of her eye, Judy could see (after having extended the invite) things stirring in the Blue Beta over the recorder's projection (which unfortunately was being rendered on a 2D screen). However, she trusted Mabel to parse that. Mabel, in turn, realized that the hostages were taking action, but didn't say so aloud at this juncture. The Nyberrites were not part of the fleet, and discretion was still needed. [NPC - Colonel Helena Vasser - Bridge, N.S.S. Soteria (Docked), Front Ear Station] Colonel Vasser nodded as Commander Eastman expressed some gratitude for the offer to help further. She also made mention of possibly meeting, but didn't go into details on account of situation she was presently dealing with. Vasser certainly understood. She wasn't certain she had the grace to spin as many plates all at once as the commander had expressed. "Of course, Commander. I look forward to hearing from you," she replied. She waited a few moments before gesturing for her communications officer to close the channel. After all, Commander Eastman clearly had business to attend to, and now apparently so did she. "Contact Major Chromar, and have him report to my ready room," the colonel said as she rose from her seat once more. She began to move towards her ready room door, but paused after a few steps. "Also, keep me apprised of situation on the station. The minute there is any change, I want to know about it." With the last order given, she retreated into her ready room, awaiting the arrival of her Intelligence Officer.

Avi scoffed and rolled her eyes. "Other than a headache?" [ Kova Sh'qaleq - Sickbay, Front Ear Station] An annoyed sigh escaped Kova's lips as she heard the Bolian's voice yet again, commenting on how chatty she was. Kova turned to look in her direction. She was certainly one to talk. If anyone was in the running for having a morning talk show right now, it was Avi. "And yet, you're the one that can't keep your mouth closed," she replied to the comment. Kova had been ready to take her leave when Avi asked yet another question, desiring to know what Kova got out of it. She stood there a moment, and didn't understand why. It wasn't as if she owed the Bolian an explanation of any kind. Still, the longer she stood there, the greater the inclination to share felt. "Access," she said. The Andorian didn't go into further detail, feeling that the answer she'd given was more than sufficient. She started to leave, but paused once more. "I also get this enormous pain in my ass that talks and won't shut up," Kova remarked. "I should really see if there's anything the doctor can do to remove it... short of pushing out of an airlock." Kova took a deep breath and started to move away from the Bolian, though came to yet another stop. "But if you're really interested in sharing... why the monkey suit? Did Harmon find some naughty pictures of you? Were you helping an old lady cross the street?Kova was genuinely intrigued with what could possibly make Avi get into bed with Harmon. Unless, she was really getting into bed with Harmon. "What makes an anarchist like you fall in line? I'd be very disappointed to learn it was only a threat?" Kova started to back away. "Find me when you're actually ready for this little... talk between us."

[OOC - Posted on Matt Harmon's behalf]
[Jeren and Lieutenant Harmon - Blue Beta Bar] Jeren was prepared, and even ready to embrace the end. He knew it was unlikely he’d shoot first and even more unlikely, bordering on impossible that he could escape this station. But he had made the choice to effectively commit suicide by cop here. It was better than rotting in a Federation prison or Caldonian labour camp, and it would make what happened here seem even more serious. But then, just as he was ready to attempt to shoot, Charlie spoke. She emphasised that he still could have more to give for his cause, for his people. His decision was now more difficult. He hesitated, long enough for Ensign Niles to make that decision for him. Jeren cried out in pain as his shoulder was hit, knocking him off his feet and causing him to drop his weapon. The young ensign spoke to him, but Jeren showed no sign of listening. He was in far too much pain, not just physically but emotionally. As all this went down, Harmon, still waiting outside with security and some medics, caught Leanna’s eye as she indicated something was about to go down. He silently indicated to the six armed security officers to be ready to enter and he stood back with the two medics. Once the hostage takers had been safely taken down and Niles gave Ops the all clear, Harmon ordered the breach and security entered securing the bar. They tended to the Kurjarians and took them into custody as the medics tended to their wounds. Once it was secure, Harmon entered the bar himself. “Make sure the wounded are under armed guard at all times. Take the others to the Brig. Do not let them out of your sight,” he ordered.” Well done, Ensign,” he said as he approached Niles with a polite nod. The kid did well for a situation he wasn’t really trained for. Who knows how the situation could have deteriorated if it weren’t for him. “Leanna...I’m so sorry this happened,” he said in a rare moment of what he perceived as weakness. As far he was was concerned his failure to gather intelligence on this attack meant this disaster was on him. “Xander’s stable,” he said simply to Sven before turning to Charlie. “Thank you for your assistance, Ms Fox,” he said professionally. Deep down, Harmon hoped she published whatever Jeren wanted. He knew Starfleet and the Federation were in the wrong. The Kurjarians deserved better than what they got.

[ Leanna - Blue Beta] Even as Leanna stood at the entrance as she waited to see if she had managed to catch Harmon's attention, it hadn't stopped the Betazoid from avoiding the continued myriad of emotions of what was going on behind her. She had hated that it had come down to this, but she would play her part and hope that justice would be found for not only the Kurjarian's that had wanted to help but also for their people in general. It had been a terrible situation to be in and one that wouldn't be forgotten in a hurry, before the sound of disruptor fire, forced her to turn slightly, dread filling her at the thought of what she would see. However instead of death, she saw that Ensign Niles had brought this to an end without the need to kill Jeren. Yes there was pain and a sense of defeat, along with other emotions associated with what had been witnessed and heard, but through all of that, there was still some sympathy for the cause that had been responsible for all of this. Although she was glad that she had managed to alert Harmon without the worry of having a disruptor blast aimed at her, as more security entered the bar, along with a medical team and watched as they got to work. Now she could breathe a little more easier, as Harmon followed his people and started to issue orders. Leanna wasn't far behind him and when he then told her how sorry he was that this had happened, she could tell that it was genuine, if a little out of character. " I appreciate that thank you, but at least it's over now and I will say that Izeg is the one who wanted to help us stop this".Lea had felt that it was important to mention the Kurjarian and what he had done for them as Harmon then spoke to the others and included an update about Xander, which was a huge relief to find out. Meanwhile Seamus had returned to the bar, reassuring staff and the remaining hostages, some wanting to remain whilst others took the opportunity to leave now that the danger was over.

[Charlie Fox - Blue Beta -> exit]Charlie automatically ducked when the disruptor whined and fired. She peered at the downed Chief, experiencing some guilt that it might have been her words and distraction that could have given the Fleeters the opportunity to murder the mishandled man. She, too, ignored the Ensign's parting speech to the terrorist, wondering what the point of it was. Instead she focused on righting herself, and getting the bloody hell out of there. She gripped the chair, and hauled herself upward. She'd managed to injure her hip when she'd thrown herself to the ground in effort to ensure she stayed out of the danger zone, but she kept her mouth resolutely shut about it. She offered a nod to Harmon at his thanks, and then spoke to only him. "Call me for debrief. I'm out of here." She thought about letting him know that she might not be quite as willing to assist them again, considering she almost became part of the story herself, but she knew that was an irritated, knee-jerk reaction, and that she'd always run headfirst into these things. It was just the way she was. She reached out, plucked Olsen from the air, and walked out of the Blue Beta, her eyes completely avoiding Jeren.

Judith Eastman(-Williams) & Ens. Mabel Henriksen - Promenade Security Offices]Judy politely nodded a goodbye before the call ended. This had gone quite well, all things considered. She turned to Mabel. "What's going on in there?" she asked. "It looks like the hostages fought back, and won," the young woman answered. "That's wonderful!" the First Officer exclaimed. Then, she got a comm from Ops. =A= "Ops to Eastman. The Blue Beta situation is under control." =A= =A= "Acknowledged," =A= Judy answered. After a moment of thought, she decided not to do anything rash. She did not need to gallivant around the proverbial Ground Zero with a megaphone. She knew there would be a lot of work involved in making the station's residents feel safe again after this day, but rocking up to the scene would easily be seen as a publicity stunt. This crew, and this station, had taken too many punches. This station needed a bit of calm, badly.

While you draw breath, there is work you can do." [ Ens Joshua Niles - Blue Beta Bar, Front Ear Station ]Having given his ultimatum, Niles was ready to fire his weapon, a weapon, he had quickly noticed, had but a single setting, which meant that if he did not intend to kill someone, it would come down to aim rather than setting.

Soft Matthew Harmon , exit Charlie. | Blue Beta Bar and Grill || Lt. Sven Aune | Orderly | Sven had the man incapacitated on the ground in a policeman's hold. He knew that things were going to happen fast. A showdown between the young ensign and the grizzled chieftain commenced. A part of Sven felt guilty that the young ensign was put directly down the sight of a disruptor, but it was the career path that he choose. He chose to put his life on the line for others and there was honor in that. It happened fast. The screech of a the blast followed by the sound of a thump and the pungent stench of ozone. He lifted his head and saw Niles standing there. His training saw him though the ordeal still alive. The hostage situation was over. But the ordeal was far from it. And that was made clear by the callous statement made by the ensign. "No, I think I'm needed in the infirmary. You're the active collar on duty." he said with quite resolute. He wasn't budging on this. Today was his last day of vacation. And what shitty one it turned out to be. He had finally taken the gold in a bodybuilding competition. A life long dream and the celebration of that came to a screeching and inexplicable halt when Xander was shot. The doors opened and Harmon entered into the scene, with a handful of security. Sven felt a rush of loathing for that man. The spook was ordering around the common police on the station. He hated that dynamic. He didn't work for him. He worked for Rayh. Why didn't Harmon have his own cronies to push around? But worse, it meant that he knew this was going on and possibly knew that all this was going to happen. "Good, the spook is here. Your mess to clean up." he said as he lifted, one handed, the sentinel with almost no effort back to his feet and dropped him into the hands of one of his peers that Harmon brought in. He pushed past Harmon without saying another word. His walk to the infirmary was one of daze. The events whirled in his mind, muted and dull. He was led to Xander's bed. He was lying there, eyes closed, angry black bruise swelling up around his neck and. The medical reader was blipping every so often. An orderly came by and wrote some things down. She looked at Sven with sad eyes. "Will he make it?" Sven asked. She looked at him, "I can't give you a medical diagnosis." "I'm not asking for that.""The blaster pierced the aorta. He's had sever internal bleeding, and his lungs were filled with blood. It's going to be touch and go. Infection, embolism, and heart failure are very real possibility." But her sad eyes said infinity more. She swept out of the room. Sven took Xander's hand and gave it a squeeze. There was no response. _______ Tags Matthew HarmonJoshua NilesExit Sven and Xander

[ Kova Sh'qaleq - Sickbay, Front Ear Station] An annoyed sigh escaped Kova's lips as she heard the Bolian's voice yet again, commenting on how chatty she was. "Find me when you're actually ready for this little... talk between us." [ Avi Moz | Sickbay ]Avi barked out a laugh. Thank the ancestors, Avi Moz's reputation was intact to the point that even Kova Sh'qaleq knew Avi'd never voluntarily join a club with a dress code. It was nice to feel seen. Cowing to Harmon's well-crafted piece of Tal Shiar flavored blackmail, no, that hadn't been Avi's most on-brand moment, but toying with the Romulan black operations was the galaxy's best-kept secret path to getting disappeared. Even 'anarchists' had to compromise sometimes. "Any time, die in a fire, love," Avi called back sweetly and waved a blistered hand farewell. Exit AviKova Sh'qaleq
