[Charlie Fox - Security Officer -> Blue Beta, Promenade]"Okay," was Charlie's only response to the Commander's preference. She'd assumed they'd want to watch from the Security Suites, but one never knew with these strange Fleet types sometimes. They could have wanted it broadcast in Operations and via all comms for all she knew. Though if it was good enough, her story would end up being transmitted across the sector. "To my personal PADD, when you're ready, thank you," she added to the woman the Commander had summoned to compile the dossiers she required, and without further engagement, followed Harmon out of the room. She listened quietly to the briefing he gave as they made their way down to the bar. Her face was uncharacteristically expressionless as she held her own counsel and judgement. She noticed the awkward pause as Harmon explained Caldonia's use to the Federation, and found herself drawing comparisons to the doomed colony world she'd been found on as a child. Her jaw clenched, but she kept her dislike for the UFP quiet from the Starfleet Intelligence Officer. She enjoyed rattling cages, but Charlie wasn't stupid. She'd save whatever sympathy for the Kurjarian cause she might have for the people themselves. "Thanks, Officer of the Day," she said to the Lieutenant, a slight hint of amusement in her voice at how he referred to himself. Seriousness soon reasserted itself, however, as the urgency of the situation on the Promenade became clearer. Subtly, she waved her hand in a slight movement, and her spherical holorecorder activated itself and moved quickly into position. She pulled a much smaller, flat device from a pocket and keyed in a few commands, re-routing one of the automatic back-ups to a console in the Security Office meeting room, which would ping with a permission request before transmitting. Olsen began collecting images and data of the released hostages. Charlie eyed each of them; the old, young, vulnerable, then her eyes slid toward Harmon and she nodded. "If I don't make it out, nuke my search history. It makes me look like a psychopath." The pitfalls of a writer's research. Then she passed several people who had been released, and moved toward the entrance of the Blue Beta. "My name is Charlie Fox. I'm here to make sure your story gets told." [Jeren and Izeg - Blue Beta Bar]"Thank you for coming, Charlie," Jeren said greeting her as she entered, pulling up a chair at a table for her and then taking a seat himself. He was in a rush, he had no idea how long he had but presumed it wouldn't be too long. "Forgive me for the circumstances of this meeting. I really had little choice. It is not possible for Kurjarians to contact the outside. The Caldonian Technocracy suppresses us greatly...and furthermore your Federation doesn't want to hear what we have to say," he asserted. "I suspect we don't have very long before I will be apprehended or killed," he held out his hand with a small device. "This contains more information on my people, the situation on Caldonia, and evidence for some claims I am about to make," he paused and waited for her to take it. "Six months ago the Caldonians found a massive deposit of Trillium 323 in the far reaches of some of the mountains where our people lived free. It was an area previously untouched by the Caldonians, one of the few places we were free. But their military moved in. They have sent settlers nearby to take over. We have fought back, decided to draw the line in the sand here. They've called us terrorists and responded harshly not just on our groups but all Kurjarians. They've destroyed villages, gassed our children, enslaved whole tribes. The evidence is all in there," he again paused for a moment before taking a deep breath. "We demand that the Federation cuts off all trade with Caldonia and places an embargo over it. We demand the Federation speak out and condemn the Caldonian's actions. We request that if the Caldonian Technocracy does not end these crimes and allow for the self-determination of the Kurjarian people that the Federation intervenes in whatever way necessary to end these crimes and free our people," with his demands done he focused on Charlie. "I ask you, no I beg of you, that you publish all of this. Do not let Starfleet censor you. Do not hold back. Make the people of the galaxy see what is happening. Help us in our call for action. We have no other option. We cannot defeat them ourselves."As Jeren was speaking to Charlie, becoming quite focused on Charlie, Izeg carefully and slowly moved close to the young ensign and whispered to him. "If I help you take out Jeren and the others and help you apprehend the other groups..." he nervously paused and looked towards Jeren to make sure he wasn't paying attention. "Can you and your large friend help get me and some of the others some sort of deal? We can't be deported to Caldonia. They'll kill us. I don't want to rot in a Federation prison either. This mission was a mistake. But let me help you, don't make my friends and I suffer for Jeren and the clan leaderships vanity and desire to make themselves into a martyr. Please help me. Let me help you."

Yino was reluctant to open the door, even when someone identifying herself as the Chief spoke to them. After a moment of contemplation and anxiety he opened the door however and was relieved to see it was indeed her and she had rescued them. He looked tired and stressed, and was clearly distressed. The others also seemed shaken. Chief Tlunch however, remained as stubborn as always. He tried to stand but didn't make it far. He was in a very bad way.

[ Leanna - Blue Beta] Leanna had continued her silent observations, the emotions of the room a constant reminder as to the potential for it all to go wrong or at the very least at the sacrifice of another hostage or perhaps the Kurjarian's turning on one another. This was a very delicate situation and yet it seemed as though Stryker and Niles were also now fully aware of what could happen, with the way they had gone silent due to the dissent in the visitor's ranks. There was a quick look towards the entrance, where Seamus was stood no doubt ready to reestablish security when needed. Although part of her understood that he had wanted to make sure that Xander was safely delivered into the hands of the medics, before he did anything else. However she was happy to have him there, especially when the call came through Niles' comm that Charlie Fox was outside. A sense of relief went through the Betazoid that those in the Fleet had gone through with their promise to bring the reporter here, watching as the elderly hostages were led out in the exchange that had been agreed upon. Less people in the bar in this instance was definitely a good thing as Jeren then welcomed Charlie and began to tell her everything that he wanted to say to her. Hearing it all was well ... racked with emotion, disbelief and anger at what was happening to the Kurjarian's at the hands of the Caldonian's. Lea hoped that this would be looked into and investigated before the one called Izeg caught her attention when he moved to Niles and began to whisper to him. Being close by, Lea managed to pick up on most of what was being said, especially the truthfulness that accompanied his words and the desire to help bring an end to what was going on. So Lea moved close and spoke in an almost whisper to both men. " Forgive me, but I heard most of what you said, Ensign he's telling the truth, there's no deceit only the desire to do what's right and the fear of what will happen if they went home .... I'm willing to help them as we have no reason not to trust them".If there was any resistance, she hoped that her being Betazoid would be enough.

[ Ens Joshua Niles - Blue Beta Bar, Front Ear Station ]With the arrival of the journalist, the young Ensign was finding himself in the unenviable position of having to juggle one more civilian in this mix, in close proximity to a man whose willingness to be reasonable had been eroding steadily in the last little while. At least, a good number of hostages were gone, and what was left within the bar was all people in their prime, including some Starfleet personnel. People who would know how to move, how to react should things go south. However, there were entirely too many weapons in play at this time for Niles to be comfortable with making a move, what with three Kurjarians including Jeren still about, and no idea what to do next. So, he simply backed away a little, giving him space to speak with the journalist. And this was when the math changed. The young man who had spoken against the Clan Chief approached him, and what he said drew a surprised glance from the officer. So, there truly was some real dissension in the ranks, and just as he was starting to consider his next move, the bartender came in closer, and rapidly confirmed what the Kurjarian was saying. One thing to be said about this woman, she had courage all right, and she had a lot of good sense. Hell, she probably was the single most effective asset they had on hand just now.. And now, he had a plan. "I won't lie, there's no way any of you are leaving this station free," the Ensign whispered back. The young man had some rather naive notions, but the Ensign had been entirely honest in all his dealings with the Kurjarians (although he had withheld information), and he wasn't about to change that. Not when he had a foot in the door, so to speak. "But if you help me end this without anyone getting hurt, if you can get the other groups to stand down and surrender, then there's a chance your trial will go better, and it will help your case should you ask for asylum. That's the only things I can offer." It wasn't much, but hopefully it would be enough to fully get him on board. "The one who was knocked down, give me his weapon, and I need you to go and cover the rest of the hostages and get the other one closer to the bar. When it all goes down, throw your weapon down, get on your knees and put your hands on your head."Then, he turned his head towards the Betazoid. "I need you to get a message to Lieutenant Aune, discreetly. Tell him what you've just heard, and if he could take down the third man, we can end this."

[NPC - Colonel Helena Vasser - Bridge, N.S.S. Soteria (Docked), Front Ear Station] It had been several minutes since Vasser had her comm officer contact the Ops, and still no official word. Personally, Colonel Vasser felt that Commander Eastman was above some of the petty games that had been exchanged recently between Starfleet and the Nyberrite Alliance. Vasser's own officer had informed her that there were a few security officers that refused to file a legitimate complaint, suggesting a sign of prejudice. Vasser had followed up by bringing it up with the station's administration, not to make a mountain out of a mole hill, but in hopes that they could grow beyond such petty displays. Thus, the time that passed from Vasser's original message and an actual response drew concern from the colonel. She had leaned forward, prepared to inform her comm officer to follow up, when the officer announced that Commander Eastman was now hailing them. "Excellent. On screen," Vasser ordered. She then turned her attention towards the view screen which was soon filled with the image of the station's first officer. Personally, she preferred the view screen to the holographic communiques that some commanders were beginning to favor. =/\= "Hello, Commander Eastman," =/\= Vasser began, =/\= "I regret that I haven't had the pleasure of your company prior to now. Unfortunately, this isn't a social call." =/\= Vasser took a deep breath, and then pushed herself up from her seat. =/\= "It's come to my attention that members of my crew have been asked to shelter in place. In addition, we haven't been able to communicate with our personnel aboard the station." =/\=Vasser's hands had found themselves clasped behind her back. =/\= "With there being no prior notice of a drill, I presume you can understand my concern for the safety of my crew, as well as the inhabitants of the station." =/\= Vasser paused a moment before continuing. =/\= "If there is a present security risk, I want you to know that you have the full support and resources of the Soteria at your disposal."=/\= For some commanding officers, it was difficult to ask for help. Even more so, when those people didn't fly under the same banner.
Tag: Judith Eastman [Cmdr. Judith Eastman(-Williams) & Ens. Mabel Henriksen - Promenade Security Offices]Judy didn't have much love for the Nyberrite alliance, personally. I appreciate the offer," she began, in the spirit of politeness and courtesy, before being interrupted through her commbadge. With an apologetic look to Vasser, she answered it. Ryah nodded her understanding as she tapped her combadge to report in. =/\= Melihn to Eastman. Commander, we've taken the armory. She paused a moment to think. They're restrained, so we'll hold them here until they can walk to the brig. There's at least one injury. Please let me know when sickbay is cleared so we can get him help. =/\= =A= "Acknowledged, Chief. Eastman out," she answered succinctly. This was, all things considered, excellent news. Afterwards, she propped her PADD up against her handbag, to free her hands. "I'm sorry. We do have a situation on our hands, as you can tell. A group of insurgents has seized several locations on the station, but our personnel are containing the situation," she explained to Vasser. "I can't commit to a timetable, but it shouldn't be too long before we're back to normal. Hours, at most."Judy didn't need any physical assistance from Nyberrite personnel, nor did she have the faith in them that it would take to bring them in. However, that didn't mean she couldn't accept Vasser's offer. "I would imagine that you could potentially know a thing or two that I don't, since people do tend to talk a little more easily when they don't see Starfleet commbadges," she said, carefully adding the caveat to make it clear that she wasn't making any accusations. "Do you happen to know anything about the Kurjarian Free Tribesmen?" she asked. Judy wasn't here to make accusations, or pursue a vendetta. Her attitude was sincere, not entirely trusting, but not accusatory.

[Charlie Fox - Blue Beta]Her holorecorder's movements were almost completely silent as it strafed and corrected focus every now and then, running the identities of all those present against every database Charlie had access to, and transmitting the data offsite. Naturally, the Kurjarians would return no results, but all of her recording equipment was programmed to document everything. She barely noticed it, she was so focused on Chief Jeren's impassioned pitch as she sat at the table. She leaned forward in her seat and reached out slowly to take the drive from him. She held it in her open palm, looking down at it thoughtfully while he continued listing the crimes the Caldonians had visited upon his people, all for the riches and notoriety that trade with the Federation could bring. Who were the criminals here? The ruling race, intent on stealing the natural resources from their less technologically advanced neighbours, or the those who would defend themselves, with force if necessary, against the threat of ethnic violence and theft. Examples of the very same practices could be found during every era of humanity's history, and if these people hadn't decided to make their point by taking Federation citizens hostage, they would have had a very sympathetic audience with no reason to withhold support. "I will publish everything, you have my word," she said before slipping the device into the inside pocket of her jacket. "Everyone with communications capabilities will know what's happening to the Kurjarians on Caldonia, and why." She had become vaguely aware of some movement and whispers offside, but she maintained her focus. If she was going to negate the damage done by these misdirected, desperate tribesmen, then she'd have to offer a more humanitarian angle. Something for the people to relate to. She leaned forward again, the expression on her face open, earnest. "What has been taken from you, sir?" She asked softly, then she heard a faint whir from Olsen and she knew the holorecorder lens was magnifying for a close-up of her interviewee's face. "Who did you lose."

[Chief Dr. Kece Lunn - Sickbay, Front Ear Station]Kece didn't emerge right away from the office. He had to make sure it was safe, and that the hostiles were subdued, but in addition to that, he couldn't go out with his hair frazzled and a bruise so visible from the violence he'd suffered. A little dermal regenerator work, some treatment with a comb (a far cry from the proper routine his hair required), and he was good enough to go. "At last!" he exclaimed, taking in the security team as he re-emerged into the main space of Sickbay. "I cannot stand for the desecration to which this great house of healing was subjected! It's a disgrace!"Always with a flair for the dramatic, Kece asserted himself. [Sickbay Kurjarians]
The remaining conscious Kurjarians in sickbay, seeing no way out and no way to meaningfully resist surrendered and allowed themselves to be taken into custody. [ Kova Sh'qaleq - Sickbay, Front Ear Station] Peering inside as she noticed Petty Officer Swann advance into the room, Kova finally saw the Kurjarians surrender. There was a sigh of relief that left her lips. It seemed her plan had worked, with minimal casualties. Her eyes briefly glanced over at Avi. The Andorian did her best to equate the collateral damage as negligible. Hopefully, a dermal regenerator and a hypo with a nice analgesic would set the Bolian right. Looking towards the panel on the edge of the door, Kova opened a comm channel to report their status, but not before hearing the voice of Dr. Lunn declaring his dissatisfaction with the length of time it had taken to engineer his rescue. Perhaps she'd leave the EMH as it was for a while... and maybe set a timer for its reactivation. Pressing the panel, Kova began to speak into the air, seeing as she had no communicator of her own. =/\= "Kova to Eastman. Sickbay is secure. The security team is preparing to transport the prisoners," =/\= Kova looked in the direction of the Bolian and sighed. =/\= "Moz may have gotten a small scratch or something. She'll remain in Sickbay to have it tended to." =/\=

Soteria (Docked), Front Ear Station] Commander Eastman eventually disclosed that there was a situation brewing on the station, however she stated that she and her personnel had it under control. Honestly, Vasser suspected that it was possible that would have been the default answer regardless of the situation. Nevertheless, Commander Eastman was more than a capable commander, and her reputation certainly proceeded her. If she said that she had the matter under control, then Vasser took the woman at her word. She was under the impression that things would be back to normal in hours and Vasser had no cause to doubt that would be true. "Understood. Thank you for the disclosure," she said. Such trust between Starfleet and the Alliance had recently been a rarity. Perhaps this was a sign that things were changing for the better. Of course, it seemed the disclosure came with a slight request. Vasser listened as Eastman inquired what more she knew about the Kurjarians. The colonel didn't have any personal interactions with them, but there was information she'd read about in mission reports and gained from conversations with her own colleagues. Still, she was selective about what she shared for the sake of client confidentiality. "I haven't personally had any interactions with the Kurjarians, but the Alliance has had some business with them in the past," Vasser shared. "They've sought our services for protection. Typically when transporting people and cargo. The Alliance, however, has no interest in fighting a Civil War. These free tribesman often speak of grievances with their Caldonian brethren."A long sigh left her lips. "I prefer to remain neutral on such internal matters," Vasser stated. It was a testament to her own training as a former Starfleet Captain. "However, there are some colleagues that sympathize with their cause. I mean... to the extent as members of Starfleet often sympathized with the Maquis Rebellion." Vasser thought it was a frame of reference that Eastman could understand. Though, as soon as she had uttered it, her own mind began racing. How had these tribesman gained the intelligence to pull something like this off? "Am I correct in assuming that you believe these Kurjarians had some assistance pulling this off, Commander?" the colonel asked. She felt it was a question that didn't require an answer. However, she'd only asked to see if the Commander was prepared to point fingers, particularly in the Alliance's direction. Considering what Vasser had shared, the Alliance could be a comfortable scapegoat. Still, that wasn't a line so boldly crossed. In Vasser's opinion, Commander Eastman didn't seem the sort to make such a claim without proper evidence.

[Jeren and Izeg - Blue Beta Bar] Izeg was pleased to see the bar owner come on his side and plead with the ensign. His hopes however were dashed when Josh replied making it clear he would be facing at best prison no matter what. At least he was being honest, Izeg mused. When the ensign mentioned the possibility of asylum a smaller glimmer of hope appeared in Izeg’s eyes. He listened carefully to the young man’s plan and considered it, eventually giving a firm and empathetic nod of agreement. He slowly walked over to Qembi, who was still lying unconscious, making it seem as though he was just patrolling and when Jeren and the other Kurjarian weren’t looking he quickly grabbed Qembi’s weapon and made his way back to Josh, handing it to him covertly. Without any more words he moved towards the rest of the hostages and pretended to be guarding them, as instructed. Meanwhile, Jeren continued his conversation with Charlie. He was pleased to find she seemed sympathetic. His contacts chose well when they singled her out for the operation. “Thank you,” he said as she pledged to publish it all. Then she asked a rather personal question. He was silent for a few awkward moments. He pondered why she was asking? Would she publish this? Eventually he broke the silence and spoke. “My two children, my thirteen year old daughter and my five year old son,” he revealed solemnly. “They were at school when our village was gassed. Supposedly they hit the wrong target...but I have my suspicions.” He was speaking quietly, his voice close to breaking. “This is not to mention the countless clansmen and women who have been slaughtered since I became leader,” he said sinking his head into his hands. [ Leanna - Blue Beta] To Leanna's relief, Josh didn't need to question how she now or explain her own resolution to help the Kurjarians in some way, even if it had meant putting her own reputation at risk. It wasn't as if she hadn't done that before and yet it had taken very little to convince her that she was doing the right thing by helping Izeg and the others. So when Josh came up with a plan, Lea listened intently, absorbing the details and understood what was being said, especially when Joshua turned to her and asked her to deliver Izeg's message to Sven, as well as what Josh needed him to do. " Understood" she replied once Izeg had moved off to retrieve the weapon from his unconscious comrade and she discreetly made her way over to Sven. Of course the Betazoid was aware that she might be getting watched but if anything she would simply say that she was checking on him, especially after what had happened to Xander. The Bar Owner was also aware of Izeg returning to Josh as she leaned as close as she dared to the tall Security officer and gained his attention with a low whisper. " Sven ... Ensign Niles wants you to take down the third Kurjarian so we can stop this once and for all, Izeg and his friends want to help us as they don't want to suffer because of what Jeren wants to do ... he thinks the mission was a mistake and is willing to do what he can in exchange for some kind of deal ... he's definitely telling the truth and we've agreed, that is myself and Ensign Niles to help him".As she said this, Lea could hear Jeren continue his conversation with Charlie and the emotions were slightly overpowering and knew that the sooner that they executed the plan the better for all of them.

[NPC - Colonel Helena Vasser - Bridge, N.S.S.
Tag: Judith Eastman [Cmdr. Judith Eastman(-Williams) & Ens. Mabel Henriksen - Promenade Security Offices]Judy listened quietly, maintaining a neutral expression. She could understand that it wasn't exactly in the Nyberrites' financial interest to get tangled up in this, just as it wasn't in the Federation's financial interest to support the Kurjarians. She, before this incident, had sympathized with the oppressed Kurjarians herself - with millennia of anti-Semitism hacking at the roots of her family tree, how could she not? "I find it hard to believe that they pulled this off entirely on their own," she explained, before another commbadge interruption came in. She'll remain in Sickbay to have it tended to." =/\==A= "Acknowledged, thank you very much," =A= Judy answered the comm, and then turned to Mabel. "Update the others; sickbay is secured," she ordered the young woman. "On it," Mabel answered. =A= "Henriksen to Ops, Melihn, and Harmon, Sickbay is ours." =A= "So sorry about that," Judy apologized to Vasser. "As I was saying, with their limited technology and means, I think it's very likely that they had some assistance, a spy at the very least. Whether it's one of my people, one of yours, or some other group, I don't know."Judy took a brief pause to catch her breath, and then added one more thought. "I will say that my intuition says it wasn't the Alliance itself. I think everyone knows that you're the most likely, and most convenient, scapegoat for the Fleet. I can already hear the chorus calling on us to retaliate against you," she shared. She genuinely thought so: this incident, and whatever tensions endured after it, didn't benefit Vasser, in Judy's assessment.

The remaining conscious Kurjarians in sickbay, seeing no way out and no way to meaningfully resist surrendered and allowed themselves to be taken into custody. [Armoury Security Officers]

| Blue Beta Bar and Grill || Lt. Sven Aune | Kurjarian Sentinel |Sven watched from the corner of his eye as Leanna and Niles spoke in hushed tones. At the moment Jaren was preoccupied with the reporter. A few minutes later Leanna had discreetly made her way towards him. He tilted his head to hear her hushed tones better. Izeg was getting cold feet and seemed that he wasn't all on board with what Jaren wanted. Sven didn't like the proposed counter attack. Not with a reporter there catching everything on film. He was concerned that it would all be spun in a negative light and defame Star Fleet. But he also didn't like being idle. But he did have something. He had already made himself a mark. He knew that that in itself could create enough of a distraction that Leanna, Niles and Izeg could incapacitate the others. He gave a very little nod to Leanna. And when Niles glanced at him, he made direct eye contact and gave a very small nod to him. Now it was the waiting game. He watched the third Kajarian walk around the bar making his round. He planned his attack. As the man got closer Sven felt his muscles tense. "Just a bit closer." his heart was racing. The hostage taker moved a little closer. Sven sprung to action. With a quick dash he was right in front of the man who brought his gun up to defend himself. Sven raised his right hand, used the back of it to push the tip away, then reaching under with the left he grabbed the back of the gun, twisted hard. The sudden shock of pain to the Kajarian's wrist caused him to drop it. In a flash Sven had disarmed the weapon and pulled the power cell out dropping it. In almost the same motion he brought his now free hand up in a hard flat palmed jab and stuck the man's face splintering his nose. The hostage taker yelped in pain once again, staggered backwards holding his nose as hot blood spurted from it. "You!" the Kurjarian yelled and took a stumbling swing at the large man. Sven side stepped, grabbed his wrist. With another sharp twist he turned it upon itself forcing the Kurjarian to turn. Using the momentum Sven swung the arm about the mans back and pressed him down onto the ground. Tags Matthew Harmon Joshua Niles Thea Baker Soft tags to anyone else in the bar

[ Ens Joshua Niles - Blue Beta Bar, Front Ear Station ]Niles really had no way to know if the younger Kurjarian, who probably wasn't any older than he was, would accept what was being offered, especially when he visibly deflated when he was informed that simply walking out just wasn't going to happen. However, the glimmer of hope at the mention of asylum that showed in his eyes did give the Ensign some encouragement. And, as it turned out, he was willing to go along with it when he pressed the unconscious man's disruptor pistol into his hand. Joshua found himself remembering the various courses on combat and tactics he'd taken at the Academy. He remembered what the grizzled Chief instructing basic defensive tactics spent his entire Freshman year saying: there was no such thing as dangerous weapons, only dangerous people, and so long as one kept their head and could keep thinking, they would never really be unarmed. That seemed odd, coming from a man who'd clearly refused the miracles of modern medicine to make the various scars on his face vanish, fix a nose that had been broken many a time, and straighten out cauliflower ears. But now that lesson was more clear than ever. Even with his hands empty, Niles had not been unarmed for he had used his mind to guide the situation, keep people safe, and now create an opportunity. The pistol that was now in his hand was just... a tool to support the use of the real weapon he had in play: himself. And something else he had been told at the Academy: tales of derring-do were better left as just that: tales; it was always better do deal with things calmly and rationally, with a good plan and a careful execution. But if that nice Plan A with its deliberation and contingencies and preparations couldn't be used, one would indeed have to resort to those less than ideal acts of derring-do. However, Josh having seen the bartender speak to Lieutenant Aune, and catching his nod, he knew the message had been sent, received, and concurred with. With Izeg making his way to 'cover' the rest of the hostages, the last Kurjarians approached the bar where the young man had been stationed, and that was when things became perfectly clear: the big man would be the one to initiate when he would be ready, and in the meantime, the younger officer moved some widening the angle so that he would be in a better position to engage when the time would come, and less likely to accidentally hit the journalist if he had to fire. And then, Sven Aune moved. As the Lieutenant launched himself at the third man, Niles snapped his pistol up in a steady two-handed grip, having taken careful aim at Jeren. The Clan Chief's own weapon was down by his side, not in a position to threaten the journalist, and even if this was hardly his specialty, there was no way the Ensign could miss at that short a range, or fail to react fast enough to prevent the older Kurjarian from bringing his weapon to bear. "Drop your weapon! NOW!"The normally quiet Ensign's voice had come out as a whipcrack within the bar, and while his face was an impassive mask behind his raised pistol and his eyes were hard, cold and emotionless, there was a single thought running through his mind at this time: please, don't make me shoot you.

[Cmdr. [...] =A= "Acknowledged, thank you very much," =A= Judy answered the comm, and then turned to Mabel. [NPC - Colonel Helena Vasser - Bridge, N.S.S. Soteria (Docked), Front Ear Station] Colonel Vasser wasn't surprised when Commander Eastman announced her conclusions that it was unlikely the Kurjarians had managed as much as they had without support. As Vasser stood there, she figured it was only a matter of time before the accusation fell afoot. However, after a brief interruption, Eastman took a different stance. She allowed for the possibility that the Alliance had nothing to do with it. In fact, she pointed out that she didn't think the Alliance itself was responsible based upon her own intuition. Vasser nodded slowly in agreement. The Alliance would be all too good of a scapegoat which could spark a proverbial, if not literal, Cold War between the two at best. "However, I doubt you have enough evidence to rule out actual individuals," Vasser stated. The situation was laid out before them, and there were certainly answers to get to. "I plan to have my Intelligence Offer, Major Chromar, look into this matter immediately. I'll be sure he coordinates his findings with your own Intelligence Officer, Mr. Harmon, isn't it?"Vasser thought the best way to proceed forward was with transparency. She could already anticipate the fight Chromar would put up about working with a Starfleet Intelligence officer. Still, Vasser felt it was in the best interest of everyone involved to be forthcoming with whatever they found. "Can we assist you in any other way, Commander?" Vasser asked.

It was a slight, professional smile, as opposed to the broad, grandmotherly beam she could produce, but she was visibly pleased nonetheless. "I think we're good for now, but thank you for the offer," she replied. "Perhaps you and I should meet face to face, but that can wait. As you can see, I'm spinning a lot of plates at this moment."It wouldn't do for Judy not to invite Colonel Vasser for a sit-down, and therefore a meal, after such courtesy from the Nyberrite. No, the First Officer had a clear personal code, and in this situation, an invitation was proper. Out of the corner of her eye, Judy could see (after having extended the invite) things stirring in the Blue Beta over the recorder's projection (which unfortunately was being rendered on a 2D screen). However, she trusted Mabel to parse that. Mabel, in turn, realized that the hostages were taking action, but didn't say so aloud at this juncture. The Nyberrites were not part of the fleet, and discretion was still needed.

[Jeren and Izeg - Blue Beta Bar] Jeren was continuing his conversation with Charlie, focusing all his effort and attention her. Were it not for the noise, the sound of the sentinel yelping in pain as Sven grabbed him, the clattering of the dropped pistol, and the sound of the man being shoved into the floor, it was likely Jeren wouldn’t have noticed what was going on. Before he had quite processed what was happening he found himself staring down the barrel of the young ensign’s acquired weapon. He felt a little betrayed. Of course they were on opposite sides but he had no ill will towards the man, in fact he’d begun to trust him, that is at least as much as a hostage taker could trust a negotiator. Jeren looked for Izeg, expecting to see him resisting, the kid had spirit, however Jeren was shocked to find Izeg had just surrendered, laid down his weapon and put his hands behind his head. Knowing this was the end, Jeren was faced with a choice. One last desperate struggle, or give in? He contemplated for a moment, staring down Niles as he made his decision. He looked to Izeg, the young man who’s life was now probably going to be lost, either in a Federation prison or Caldonian execution block. He felt sorry, not quite guilty as he knew some of his people would have to die for Kurjarian freedom, but it still upset him as he cared deeply for his men. He then looked to Charlie and spoke softly and solemnly. “Promise me you’ll tell our story,” and with that said he grabbed his pistol and tried to take aim at Niles. He might get lucky and hit him, catch him off guard. But deep down, Jeren knew this was probably it for him. The pistols they were holding had no stun setting. Only one of them had any hope of walking away. Tag Joshua Niles , Sven Aune , Felicity Ellis , Leanna Mazal
