[Charlie Fox - Room 212]Charlie wanted to be annoyed that she was being so easily manipulated by Xyla, but she found that she couldn't muster much of it. She had made the mistake of assuming the woman would inhibit herself in her presence, and that was something that she should never do in her line of work. Her eyes continued to follow Xyla's movements as she reached into her bag and retrieved the cylinder. Charlie knew what it was and she wanted to stop her from using it. Her arms, once tight against her chest, loosened, one of her fists opening, fingers paused in mid-air as she fought the desire to wrap them around Xyla's wrist. Her tongue slid out of her mouth, over her bottom lip as she wet it, all while she returned the other woman's stare. All manner of images flashed through her mind. She wondered how Xyla's skin would feel beneath her palms, her fingertips, if her mouth was as inviting as the words it spoke. How long could she look into those captivating eyes before she stepped over the line and dove straight in? Then the moment passed. Charlie had been holding her breath, and she loosed it in a sigh when Xyla rose to get her a glass of water. She took it, not out of need for hydration, but mainly for something to do. "Thank you," she said, her voice carrying a husky note. "That was a little... intense. I'm sorry." She took a sip and tried to regain full control of her senses so she could return to business. She thought maybe she should have been embarrassed by how she'd reacted to the other woman, but instead she could feel the corners of her mouth slide upward. "Does it get tiresome?" Charlie asked suddenly, her head falling to one side as she resumed studying the Deltan, hopeful that it wouldn't result in her wanting to remove all of her clothes again. "People constantly wanting to throw themselves at you, I mean. You must have a lot of self-control."

[NPC - Xyla - Promenade, Front Ear Station] After giving her the water, Xyla kept a little distance between herself and Charlie. Part of her reason was to give Charlie time to recover. The other reason was to admire the woman's beauty from afar. Even in her disheveled state, there was something about her. A humbleness that was typically buried by brash and confidence. It was almost as if she were glimpsing right at the woman's soul. Xyla was broken from her thoughts as Charlie stated how intense the experience had been. She even went as far as to apologize. A long sigh left Xyla's lips. "You don't owe me an apology," the Deltan said simply. Of course, if she was waiting for Xyla to apologize, she had a long wait ahead of her. Xyla had manipulated the situation to her benefit. That was something that she would never apologize for. She needed to know if she could trust Charile. If she were honest, she still didn't know. Yet, the reporter would be of little use to her if she had succumbed fully to Xyla's manipulation. Though, perhaps her actions were a sign of trust. One that could be built between the two of them. Only time would tell. Charlie asked if it got tiresome. The Deltan was a bit perplexed by the question until she clarified. She mentioned people wanting to throw themselves at her, even questioning her own self control. Xyla smiled. "You only ask that question, because you spend a great deal of time concealing who you are," Xyla said. The smile waned a bit as she continued. "I do not mean it as an insult, but your culture seems to ask you to suppress who you really are out of deference to others. On my world, we express ourselves more freely. Our desires... our pleasures." Xyla shrugged. "There are some cultures that don't repress themselves as much as you humans. Risans, Klingons, Bajorans, Betazoids...."Remnants of the smile that had been on her face as her mind thought of the Morii, and how intrusive they had been. She swallowed, attempting to push the episode from her mind. "I don't take the suppressants in part for my clients, who crave an authentic Deltan encounter. But I also don't because... it shackles who I really am." Xyla moved a bit closer to Charlie, staring down at her as she sat in the armchair. Timidly, she lifted her hand, moving so that the back of her hand would gently caress Charlie's jaw if the reporter allowed. "If only you knew...."

[Charlie Fox - Room 212]"And then there's the Vulcans. A species who claim that their society would devolve into chaos and violence if they didn't repress themselves." Charlie didn't disagree with Xyla, in fact, she might rather express herself in whatever manner she saw fit, but she wasn't Deltan. Nor was she Risan, Klingon... "I think humans see their management of self as a way to hold on to their humanity."She watched the woman's mouth as she spoke, and found herself measuring her smile. Xyla had many different types of smile; amused, soft, maybe even regretful. Charlie thought she'd like to spend some time learning them all. She couldn't have moved away from the other woman's touch if she'd wanted to. The tingle left in the wake of her caress might have been a result of unique physiology, or it might have been plain old, routine chemistry. Charlie had no idea, and at the moment she found she didn't really care. "Would it scare me to know?" She asked, her expression open, the tone of her voice thoughtful. Perhaps it wasn't the woman who would scare her, but Charlie herself if she let go. "There's an old saying: ignorance is bliss. I think maybe the person who coined it hadn't known the bliss of your company."It was right there. All she had to do was raise her hand, wrap her fingers around Xyla's wrist. With a tug she could pull her closer; down, all the way down until her lips met. She sighed. "So close, so far."

[NPC - Xyla - Promenade, Front Ear Station] Hearing Charlie's words in her ears, asking if it would scare her to know caused the Deltan's lips to curl slightly in amusement. It was such an innocent question, and also one that the Deltan was tempted to answer. Charlie went on to speak of an old saying: something about ignorance being bliss. Though, Xyla had to agree that it was likely the speaker hadn't known true pleasure. "You can only fear what you don't know," Xyla said as she continued to gaze down at Charlie. The Deltan began to wonder who was really in control now with her pheromones now suppressed. The Deltan continued to hover just over Charlie as she closed her eyes. Her own mind reveling in the sensation of the touch of her hand caressing Charlie's jaw. And she thought to herself, just one kiss. It was her own imagination entertaining the possibility of the human's lips finding her own. How, with over a million nerve endings in her lips, she could truly relish the moment. How shadows danced upon the contrast of their skin, meshing them into one. The fervor of the moment could consume them. It was just a thought... an image, but perhaps one that didn't remain contained in Xyla's mind. It wasn't like what happened at the bar. Xyla had shared a thought, merely an image. The Betazoids had made her feel the sensations, manipulated her mind and what she felt. Still, the mere thought that she could be accused a violation like that ended he images as quickly as they had begun. "I'm sorry," she said with a hint of alarm in her voice.

[Charlie Fox - Room 212]"I don't know a lot of things," Charlie responded. The statement was true of most people, she thought, though she delivered it in a teasing manner. Was she inviting the other woman to show her? Are you mad?She definitely wasn't altogether present, that was for sure. She did feel like herself, though, which might surprise her later when she picked apart and over-analysed this meeting to within an inch of its life. That is, of course, if she was able to leave in one piece. The simple fact that she was somehow open to the possibility of risking not being able to leave at all was enough to show her that she wasn't thinking straight. Xyla was still above her; and Charlie's arms raised, her hands reaching upward to lightly graze the material that hung around her hips. Then the mood in the room changed suddenly, and Charlie found herself staring up at her, bewildered. "What for?" She asked in the wake of her apology, finding herself a little concerned over the hint of alarm in the other woman's voice. The flash, the sudden urge to pull her, to taste her lips and lose herself in a kiss, was that... not her own desire? "Oh, I thought that was all me. Felt like it." She dropped her hands to her lap, then squeezed them between her thighs, her skin rubbing roughly against the material of her jeans. "It's okay Xyla. Sit with me?" She asked, brows arched as she nodded toward the other empty chair.

[NPC - Xyla - Promenade, Front Ear Station] As the moment subsided, Xyla actually found herself pleased to see that Charlie was coiled up in a ball on the floor. Of course, there was a science to it all, but Xyla wasn't a doctor. From Charlie's words, it seemed the brief moment between them had been intense. Xyla felt it warranted an explanation, but thought she could do a lot better than some long-winded answer about hormones released during arousal activating a portion of her brain responsible for latent telepathic abilities. "Typically, if the attraction is mutual, it often feels more intense," she attempted to explain. "A connection where it's sometimes difficult to know where you begin and someone else ends."It wasn't something that Deltans hid, but they didn't go out of their way to talk about it either. In most cases, they simply came with a warning label, and that was the end of it. Charlie then asked Xyla to take a seat. After a few moments, wondering if it would have been better to leave, Xyla moved towards the vacant chair. As she lowered herself into it, her eyes moved to Charlie. She had trusted the woman with a great deal so far, it was only fair to hear her out completely. She waited for the reporter to continue, either with what she had to share, or for the questions that were likely coming.

[Charlie Fox - Room 212]"I see," Charlie said in response to the Deltan's explanation, though she could admit to herself that she was still feeling a little lost over the whole thing. It had at times felt as though she could so very easily forget herself, and for a moment there when those images and the promise of those titillating sensations had assailed her, she might even have considered giving in. She wasn't sure how to respond to the intensity of the attraction or Xyla's words, so instead she swapped her glass of water for her ale. She watched as Xyla sat again. She was still close, still within touching distance should Charlie want to reach out, extend her fingers, and brush the other woman's beautiful skin. She chose not to. "What is it that you want, Xyla?" She asked instead, trying a different tack. She dispensed with her roundabout posturing and decided to just ask. "What was it that brought you here? Have you a goal or an ambition that I could help you with?"Credits, eliminating a problem or a roadblock to promotion - these were all juicy morsels that could be dangled as incentive. Problem was, Charlie still had no idea if Xyla was a vegetarian.

[NPC - Xyla - Promenade, Front Ear Station] The Deltan continued to watch Charlie as the conversation moved from their brief moment to what Xyla wanted. The woman was actually frozen by the question. She didn't say anything, instead truly thinking of the answer. She took a deep breath and exhaled slowly. "How does one answer a question they've never been asked before?" Xyla asked. She honestly couldn't remember the last time she'd had anything that she truly wanted. Many of her decisions were made by Slilick and Slilick alone. When asked what had brought her there and the talk of goals and ambitions, it almost seemed if they should have been words with no meaning. Finally, Xyla thought of something that she actually wanted. "Hope... that isn't an empty promise," she said simply. "You're not the first to approach any of us. Lawmen have as well. My friends have spoken with them... told them things... and nothing changed. In fact, things got worse for them... and for some, well... let's just say they haven't been seem since."Xyla shrugged. "How is this going to be different?" Xyla asked. She honestly felt as if she could trust Charlie, but it was possible it was her own intrigue in the woman that was clouding her judgement.

[Charlie Fox - Room 212]Charlie thought her heart could break at those words. How was it that Xyla had never been asked what it was she wanted? How could a woman like her get through this life with her basic needs ignored? She would turn heads everywhere she went, but never merit the kind of consideration that everyone else took as a basic right. This time, she did raise her hand and lean closer to the Deltan's seat, wanting not to reach out with lust this time, but with something else, something beyond. She balled up her hand into a fist then, and stuck it beneath her chin, her elbow resting on the arm of her chair. She'd never be able to turn the compassion she felt off, so instead she decided to channel it into something else. She listened as Xyla spoke of empty promises, of dangers to her and to others, and the consequences of helping. Charlie could only offer a small smile and a resigned expression. "I won't blow smoke up your skirt, Xyla. I'll be straight with you." What other choice would she have had? Had Charlie not felt compelled toward honesty in present company, she still wouldn't have sugar-coated anything. She still would have wanted this woman to know what she was walking into, eyes open this time. "The only thing I can promise is that I want you to have hope. Hope that you'll have something better, something that's just for you. And the only other truths I can offer is that I've been in this situation before, on Torros, and I have an idea of what's going on. A better idea than any lawman that came knocking on your door."She paused for a breath, eyes on Xyla's face. "And I'm not Starfleet. I don't follow their rules, I don't exist within their particular code of conduct and I'm definitely not restricted by their ethics. We might call them in at the end when we've done what we needed to do, but before that, they're relatively useless to us. I can promise you that I'm going after that Slilick prick, with or without you, but if you or any of your colleagues want to lend a hand or drop a word or a name every now and then to push things along, then I'll happily facilitate it."She took a drink, draining her glass. It was the effects of the Deltan beside her, probably along with the strong ale, that prompted the wave of tiredness that crashed through her. She'd have happily given it up to have the sensations of Xyla close again. Charlie couldn't help but wonder what the exchange might have been like had it not been for business, but just for pleasure. "It's a tough choice. It's a dangerous offer. You should think about it before answering."

[NPC - Xyla - Promenade, Front Ear Station] It wasn't very often that Xyla found herself in the position of being seduced, but there were very few words that would do justice to the words that were leaving the lips of Charlie Fox. She could see the passion in the woman's eyes. Her desire to bring down Slilick and his entire operation. The way she spoke of what she'd seen on Torros. There just seemed to be something more there. And then, there was her honesty, her desire to help Xyla and the others. Perhaps it was a hint of innocence in those words that made them sound so alluring. Still, there was enough wisdom in Charlie Fox to make no promises. Her words were like a serenade, a sweet melody drawing the Deltan closer and closer into belief and possibly acceptance. And then, there was the tease.... The mere suggestion for her not to decide now, made the idea of returning to Charlie all the more seductive and rather difficult to resist. "I will," she answered, slightly mesmerized by the brunette's words. "... think about it." She felt inclined to repeat the words as a reminder of what she was supposed to do. After all, there was still the danger that Slilick could learn about all of this. And when power was threatened, it reacted expeditiously. "How should I contact you?" Xyla asked. She assumed it would be best to keep a low profile. Slilick may not like the idea of anyone in his employ meeting with a reporter. To do so openly was inviting retaliation upon herself and possibly danger to Charlie. The woman didn't seem to bare a hint of fear within her, but Xyla knew Slilick and would insist on some sort of preparation just in case.

[Charlie Fox - Room 212]Charlie released the breath she'd been holding, and nodded when Xyla said she would think about it. It sounded to her as though the other woman was already giving the idea some serious consideration, which in itself was pleasing. Charlie could not ask for, or expect, anything more. When the Deltan asked how she could be contacted, she was quick to explain. "There's an Andorian, Tivra, who works an evening shift in the Alibi." Charlie had a couple of people who worked as an irregular go-between for her, but seeing as the Spotty Alibi was where Xyla seemed to meet most of her clients, Tivra was the obvious choice and would rouse a lot less suspicion. "When you want to speak to me, order a gin and lemon from her. She'll let me know and I'll come to you."Charlie's heartrate had increased again, though this time it was less to do with the Deltan's influence and more a healthy spike of adrenaline at the thought of this large puzzle piece being added to the big picture. "I won't ever approach you in public, or communicate with you via typical channels."

[NPC - Xyla - Room 212, Twilight Casino & Hotel, Front Ear Station] Xyla was actually impressed with the lengths that Charlie would go to in order to protect her. It seemed as simple as ordering a particular drink at the Spotty Alibi would suffice. She nodded a she received the instructions believing them to be simple enough. "A gin and lemon," she repeated, making a mental note of the order. Once again, she found herself warmed by the sincerity in Charlie's voice. Although, for some reason the promise of never approaching her in public, while necessary felt a tad bittersweet. "Understood."With that seeming to be all there was to be said, Xyla slowly pushed herself to her feet. Even now, the reporter's words weighed heavily upon her. The mere complexity of speaking with Charlie was certainly one reason to go through with this. Yet, there was a great deal more at stake, than just her comfort. "You will have my answer soon," she said simply. For a moment, she found herself simply lingering as she stood there staring at Charlie. "Um... good night." Xyla started to turn and leave, but recalled at least one other thing that she needed to say. "And... thank you."

[Charlie Fox - Room 212]
Charlie was awash with so many different emotions as Xyla moved to leave, and try as she might, she could not catch and hold onto any of them for long enough to truly examine them. She found herself nodding mutely when the Deltan assured her that she'd have her answer soon, and then stood up from her seat as though she intended to see her out. She didn't move any further than that, however, and remained rooted to the spot, returning the intense stare that Charlie wondered was just part and parcel of who she was, or if it had something more to do with the atmosphere between them.
She was caught off-guard again, for it seemed like the tenth time that evening. Her brows shot up when Xyla thanked her. "Thank you," she replied. "You didn't have to come and listen, but you did. It's more than I could have asked for."
Once Xyla left, the room felt empty, yet Charlie did not want to escape it. She felt drained. She picked up the bottle of ale, shook it to gage how much remained, and then stepped the short distance to the bed. That night, she'd be getting value out of rates paid.
End scene.

83 hours later...[ Kova Sh'qaleq - Room 212, Twilight Hotel & Casino, Front Ear Station] She knew that she wasn't supposed to be there, but honestly, she didn't give a damn. She wanted answers. As Kova came to a stop, her eyes examined the key card and matched it to the room number. Room 212. Kova already knew whom the room belonged to. She supposed she could have gone straight to the source, but what good would that really do? It wasn't as if she'd just up and admit to knowing Xyla. And that was a hazard of the Deltan's profession. It was inconvenient for anyone to know you... to care about you... to miss you. No, if Kova wanted answers, this is how she would get them. The Andorian slid the keycard into the slot and her the acknowledging chime granting her entry. As the doors parted, she stepped inside. It was quiet, and it appeared to be empty. The smartest thing to do was to get in and get out. Kova slipped into the room, allowing the doors to shut behind her. Her eyes skimmed the room, finding what she was hoping to find first: a personal computer. Kova reached into her pocket and attached a portable device onto the computer. Given a few moments it would work it's way past her firewalls and personal securities and clone the local drive and leave an open trail to any cloud-networks. That left the physical search up to the Andorian. Kova wasn't really concerned about leaving it tidy. She knew the people that the woman would run to to report a break-in. They'd find nothing. The surveillance to this corridor had been hacked and looped. She was wearing glove and being careful to limit the DNA exposure. And when the call came, she'd just be sure to come along. That would explain any findings of her own DNA at the scene. She tossed the drawers... the closet... nothing. She kneeled down to look under the bed. Would anyone be that elementary? She made a note to look between the mattress, when she heard what sounded like someone approaching.

[Charlie Fox - Corridors, Twilight Hotel & Casino, Front Ear Station]The chirp of her PADD was heard easily over the silence of the Twilight Hotel's carpeted corridor, where the only other sound was that of her feet shuffling as she returned to her room, bag filled with Greek take-out swinging from her wrist. Barely slowing down, Charlie pulled the pinging device from the inside pocket of her leather jacket. The light from the screen illuminated the dim passage and she squinted at the data that scrolled in front of her. Xyla? Charlie had heard nothing from their mutual friend at the Alibi, but the Deltan had been given the card that had been marked just for her use. She could only assume that Tivra hadn't been able to get word to her, and had passed on they key. She frowned as she pocketed the PADD, her mind processing the alert her room's security protocols had sent, and picked up her pace to a hurried stride. It wasn't that she was unhappy to learn that Xyla wanted to speak again so soon, quite the opposite, but she hadn't been expecting it. She figured out why her gut instinct had been one of suspicion as soon she stepped into her own room and found a blue-skinned Andorian intruder leaning over her bed. "Computer, lights."As soon as the small room illuminated itself properly, Charlie raised her free hand and snapped her fingers. The holorecorder whirred to life and shot out from beneath the queen-sized bed like a tiny missile from a tube. Olsen, now on sentry mode, began to circle the room and automatically captured the woman's image. A knot clenched in Charlie's stomach, her hand clenching simultaneously into a fist as she recognised Kova Sh'qaleq. "You've got five seconds to tell me who sent you here." Charlie's angry gaze flickered from her computer, to the haphazardly strewn underwear on the floor. "Or I'll live-stream your little break-in to my five million personal followers."
