[ Kova Sh'qaleq - Room 212, Twilight Hotel & Casino, Front Ear Station] As the woman entered her room and called for he lights, Kova made no attempt to hide or make excuses for her presence in the room. In part, because she felt no need to explain herself and felt justified in her search, despite not having an actual warrant. Yet, the other reason is because she found herself a tad impressed with the tech at the woman's disposal. Her eyes watched the drone that hovered around her, clearly scanning and recorded her physical dimensions. "Is that a reconnaissance drone?" Kova asked. She hadn't seen one since the war... at least not one in a single piece. Charlie didn't seem inclined to answer questions, but asking them instead. She demanded to know what Kova was doing in her room, and even went as far as to threaten to expose her for breaking into the reporter's room to her five million followers. Kova was hardly shaken by the threat. And it was a threat. Kova had already served time in a penal colony. Repeating the experience was not something on Kova's bucket list. However, if this was something Charlie really wanted to happen, she would have done so already. Still, if the reporter wanted to air dirty laundry, then Kova was set to call the woman's bluff. "Let's do it, then," Kova said. "I'll be more than happy to tell them that you're responsible for Xyla's murder." The Andorian stood her ground, glaring into Charlie's eyes. If this was a conversation she wanted to have in front of five million witnesses, then so be it.

[Charlie Fox - Room 212]"Responsible for Xyla's..." She muttered, mouthing the words more than speaking as her mind tried to catch up with what she was seeing: the defiant Andorian, and what she was hearing: that Xyla was murdered. Charlie stared, her eyes wide and all colour draining from her face with impressive speed. The paper bag containing the take-out slid from her wrist when her arms went slack. Xyla's murder? She'd just seen her. They'd just begun to work together, she'd only been laying the foundations for their relationship. So many plans, so many ideas, all slipping away, sliding from her grasp... "Xyla's dead." She stated. She swallowed against the growing lump in her throat. "How." She could barely hear the question over the roaring sound of her own thumping heart in her ears. Her stomach dropped and for a moment, Charlie thought she was going to hit the deck. "Excuse me," she managed, before turning on her heel and practically running to the small en-suite. Once inside, she retched and threw up the contents of her stomach into the sink. For a moment she forgot about her recording ex-reconnaissance drone and Kova's crime, all she could think inside that restroom was that she'd only had coffee that day, and that Xyla was dead. She was dead because of her.

[ Kova Sh'qaleq - Room 212, Twilight Hotel & Casino, Front Ear Station] Kova had to admit, she hadn't anticipated this particular response from the reporter. As far as she knew, an overwhelming wave of nausea wasn't the typical response to guilt. It seemed to suggest that the woman's response of surprise was actually genuine. Still, be that as it may, Kova was far from prepared to absolve Charlie Fox of playing a role in Xyla's death. Though, she'd feed into the woman's curiosity to see what else she could actually learn from her. The Andorian waited for the sound of the woman's retching to cease before speaking. Perhaps the allure of actual facts would draw her back into the room. "Xyla was found dead in her quarters," Kova shared. "The preliminary cause of death is asphyxiation. She was found in her quarters... submerged in her tub," Kova shared. She was waiting to see if any of the details provoked some sort of response. "There are some signs that she wasn't alone in her quarters though. Someone left in quite a hurry." Kova then held up the key to Charlie's room. "Imagine my surprise when this bit of evidence turned up." "From what I knew of Xyla, she wasn't in the habit of bringing work home with her," Kova stated. "And you've had this particular room for quite a while. So, what was your key doing in her quarters?"

[Charlie Fox - Room 212]The retching stopped. She was leaned over the sink in the bathroom, her chest heaving with laboured breathing. Charlie tried to balance herself, but she was thinking far too many thoughts, far too quickly. She waved her hand, activating the stream of water. She pooled some in her palms and splashed her face, trying to cool her ruddy cheeks and clear her mind. She bit her bottom lip and straightened up. She was staring at her reflection, and seeing nothing, when her uninvited guest began to speak again. She tore her eyes from the image in the mirror, and stepped back into the room, small hand towel in her hands as she perfunctorily dried herself off. She knew she should be feeling sheepish, apologetic, but such things seemed wasteful, needless. An offense in the face of this news she'd just received. At one time she might have doubted the veracity of what the Andorian was saying, mostly as a way to avoid feeling any responsibility, but in those few moments in Room 212 she recognised the ring of terrible truth to what she was being told. Charlie's eyes flickered toward the orange room key Kova Sh'qaleq held aloft, and began putting some pieces together. "I gave it to her," she responded simply. There seemed no point in lying about that, though the reason behind it would have to remain guarded. She did not know the Security consultant, and had no clue what skin she had in this race. The lump that was forming in her throat made it hard for her to speak, but she tried to push through it. Something was telling her that what she said from that moment on would have repercussions. "It was for her to use. Just her."She tossed the towel over her shoulder, and the thing landed with a faint splat on the bathroom floor behind her. She walked further into the bedroom and crossed her arms tightly against her chest. Above them, Olsen continued in sentry mode. "Is there any security footage?" Charlie didn't bother elaborating further; they would both know what she meant.

[ Kova Sh'qaleq - Room 212, Twilight Hotel & Casino, Front Ear Station] When the reporter emerged from the bedroom, she looked rather the worse for wear. As if hearing about Xyla's death had actually taken an emotional toll. Kova simply watched her as she seemed to drag herself back into the room. It certainly begged what sort of relationship she had with Xyla. The admission came flatly and honestly. She had apparently given Xyla the key, though the phrasing for her use, certainly piqued the Andorian's curiosity. "Where the two of you...." She allowed her voice to trail off. It wouldn't have surprised her. Xyla was beautiful... charismatic... alluring... invigorating. To say that she breathed life into the room was an understatement. Was she some clandestine secret of the reporter? Xyla mentioned not wanting Slilick to see the footage of someone leaving her quarters. Was it possible that Charlie Fox was that someone? It certainly seemed to be someone she cared about. Kova was pulled from her musings as she finally answered the question. "Nothing incriminating," Kova answered. "Whomever went there to kill her made certain to kill the cameras in that area long enough." Kova's eyes fell upon Olsen. "Is your drone capable of causing a temporary communications block out?" Genuine feelings or not, Kova wasn't ready to cross Charlie's name off the suspect list. Besides, crimes of passion were more than typical. And a lover's spat could certainly lead to this.

[Charlie Fox - Room 212]"Ah... No," Charlie answered, catching the drift of her question immediately, of course. Some colour was returning to her pale face. "Not that I didn't - or wouldn't - want... But, y'know." She gestured toward herself before continuing, "Fragile little human here."Charlie had no idea what Kova knew, or who she was in bed with herself. She had to be very careful with the information she was giving, because she had no idea who would be privy to it afterward. "We had business of another kind." That was all she could say. As much as the Andorian seemed suspicious of her involvement in Xyla's murder, Charlie knew the other woman could be standing there, in her room, investigating for any number of reasons or people. She could be genuinely looking for Xyla's murderer, or she could be looking for a scapegoat. Her eyes followed toward Olsen, where they stayed for a brief moment before returning to Kova. She gave this one a little more thought than she had the question regarding the nature of her relationship with the dead Deltan. "Yes, it is. There's a modification I can apply that works as a general comms inhibitor. It's limited, but it can buy a minute or two." She held out her hand, palm upwards, flat. The small sphere swiveled and began to glide toward her. It placed itself in her waiting hand and her fingers closed around it. "I haven't used that feature in over a year, not since the Breen incursion on Sierra."Tit for tat.Her expression cool, she held out the hand containing the holorecorder. "You're welcome to check." A brief pause. "Tell me how you know her."You're an idiot."Knew her," she corrected.

[ Kova Sh'qaleq - Room 212, Twilight Hotel & Casino, Front Ear Station] The human reporter quickly pointed out that there was nothing intimate about her relationship with Xyla. She played the fragile human card, but Kova wasn't entirely convinced of that. Perhaps the human had desired more and was just limited by her physiology. The Andorian arched an eyebrow as she silently appraised the human. "Hmph," Kova uttered dismissively. "You don't look that fragile to me." It may have been a compliment, but it was certainly an observation. Charlie didn't come off as the sort that readily accepted any weakness. Perhaps that's what made her claim a tad less credible in Kova's eyes. Then, came the admission that they had business of another kind. That certainly intrigued Kova, though the Andorian's imagination was quick to latch on to the obvious. "So, she was your source in some sort of story?" Kova asked. She doubted she'd get an obvious answer, but it was appealing nonetheless. Kova had her own goal of trying to bring down Slilick. If this reporter had acutally managed to get Xyla to go on the record, that could certainly be a clue the Deltan's murder. However, Kova couldn't accept Charlie as a potential ally, because of her later admission about her drone. It seemed it did have the capability to kill surrounding communications. Kova wasn't sure that the few minutes would be long enough to commit the murder and clean the scene. Of course, if she was lying, then she could have been lying about how long it took. Then, came the invitation to check if she desired. That was rather convenient. Perhaps this was just some sort of way to get Kova to let her guard down, making her victim number two. "Let me guess: you have nothing to hide?" Kova remarked sarcastically. There was still the lingering question that had been posed to Kova, regarding how she knew Xyla. In fact, the over-correction to use the past tense was yet another sign of human emotionality. They were always so quick to be overly empathetic to anyone they met. Granted, there were a few that were cold ball-busters. Kova actually preferred them, as you knew where they stood. But this one, she may know how to distance herself, but it apparently wasn't as easy where Xyla was concerned. Grief... or guilt? Which emotion was trying to rear it's head? "Xyla and I were acquainted. I did her a favor, hoping she would return it," Kova admitted. "She valued her privacy. Didn't want people to know who was visiting her quarters. She never did business there, so I could understand wanting to keep the professional and the personal separate." Kova continued to watch Charlie for just a hint of reaction to what she was sharing. "In exchange, I was hoping she'd be willing to speak out against her boss. Doesn't look like that'll be happening now."

[Charlie Fox - Room 212]Had the circumstances been different; had Charlie not been trying to compartmentalise some complicated feelings, then she definitely would have laughed at the Andorian's dismissive statement. As it was, the corners of her mouth twitched slightly, but returned to their down-turned position quickly. In many ways she was far from fragile, but she had no doubt that Xyla would have left her a useless, babbling puddle of brain-addled mess had their 'professional' relationship taken a turn for the carnal. "Something like that," she offered when Kova rightly identified the obvious reason for Charlie and the Deltan escort to have any contact with each other. Xyla was dead, the damage there was done, Charlie had no reason to protect her or consider her safety. Instead, she realised that at this stage, the danger was to her. Her brows rose at the sarcastic response to her offer; it was unexpected. She pulled back her arm that held the round drone and then placed it on a nearby end table. "Oh, I've plenty to hide." Didn't everyone? Wasn't that likely why Xyla was dead? "Just not that."It probably didn't matter in the grand scheme of things if Kova believed her or not. Sure, the woman had connections on the Station, but so did Charlie. If it was the case that she was trying to set her up to take the fall, well, she'd walked right in on that attempt, Greek takeaway food in hand. It was when the intruder began talking about her own relationship with Xyla that Charlie began to realise the similarities in their positions. And when she referenced the bossman himself, Charlie wondered if it was all too good to be true. If this was a trap, it was an effective one. "There's more than one way to skin a Saurian," she said, refolding her arms and looking very intently at Kova. "Even with Xyla dead, the things she knew could still help bring down Slilick."

[ Kova Sh'qaleq - Room 212, Twilight Hotel & Casino, Front Ear Station ] The Andorian was actually impressed with the honesty of Charlie's answer, stating that she had plenty to hide, but not what Kova was looking for. Kova stared at the drone that was placed on the table, apparently welcome to her inspection. The Andorian stared at it and lifted her eyes towards Charlie. "And you trust me to poke around in there?" she asked. In all honesty, Kova could likely get a look at it one way or another. Either now, or later by bringing security back with a warrant. There simply seemed to be something about that Charlie Fox. She wasn't like other humans. She appeared to be more open and forthcoming. She wasn't hiding behind smiles and hopeful optimism. She seemed to be a realist, and someone that wasn't trying to avert her eyes from the filth that littered this station. That much was apparent with her clear disdain for the likes of Slilick. She was still on her quest to make sure that justice was served where he was concerned. That was certainly something that Kova could get behind. "All right, you've got my attention," Kova said, intrigued by the human's bravado. "You clearly know about his operation aboard the station. But he's managed to slither out of any charges thus far. So, what exactly do you have in mind?" It was possible that Slilick had something to do with Xyla's murder, and justice for the Deltan was certainly something that Kova wanted to deliver. However, proving it... well, her chances of making out with a Vulcan were probably higher than that.

[Charlie Fox - Room 212]"I trust you to know what you're doing," Charlie said as she nodded toward the offered drone, and her tone of voice turned a little contemptuous. "More than those Sec/Tac oafs you work with, anyway." No matter Kova's reasons for being there, the Andorian did have working connections that Charlie did not, and even without them, Charlie would rather be in a position to watch her own investigation. And to have the investigation of Olsen completed by someone who was technically-savvy enough to appreciate what it was. There were a few on the Station who considered her holorecorder as some sort of hindrance to effective police work, or even more that considered it a threat to their privacy. It seemed she'd said something that Kova liked, or at least perhaps approved of. Her language suggested no love lost between her and the Saurian either, and that possibility began to colour her opinion of the other woman even further. "I wanted to start small, ease into things. So I asked for a name here and there. Clients. There was one in particular I knew of who had a lot to lose. I think if we can compile a list of her recent contacts, maybe pull on those strands a little, one might unravel things enough to give us something that we can finally threaten Slilick with."She'd never said those words before, but they just slid out with her of all the ease of a practiced speech. She might have hated the man and what he stood for before, but Charlie realised at that moment just how much more personal Xyla's death would make things for her.

It had been years since Kova had actually seen one of these droids. Truth be told, most of the ones she'd had the opportunity to see had been damaged and scrapped for parts. To see one actually working and in tact. There was some mild curiosity as to how it ended up in the hands of a reporter, but that was easily a tale for another time. "An interesting little companion," she remarked simply. Personally, she thought it'd fare better with a splash of personality. Of course whether it's memory could support a personality subroutine was another question altogether. Kova's attention naturally drifted towards the human as she spoke about what she had in mind. It was wise to consider the clients, because a great deal could be learned from them. Compiling a list certainly sounded like a good idea, but would it be easier said than done. The most direct route to get the list would be directly from Slilick, but he likely wouldn't be very forthcoming. After all, the clients typically paid for the discretion that Slilick could provide. Still, Charlie mentioned knowing of one that had a lot to lose. "I may know of someone that can possibly identify a few of Xyla's clients," Kova shared. "There was a little Grazerite creeper that was trying to sell holo-porn he compiled from some some tiny surveillance units he planted." Kova shrugged, knowing it was one of the last things Xyla had asked of her. The little twerp was also tring to blackmail the girls for some of their cuts, leaving them with practically nothing after the girls would have to square things with Slilick. "Xyla asked me to look into it, and I handled it. Either way, he probably recognized some of the faces of some of her clients."Of course, that thought also renewed Kova's interest in the client that Charlie had mentioned. When Xyla had come to her before, it sounded as if she had been trying to protect the identity of someone else. Could it have been the same person? "You said that one of the clients had a lot to lose," Kova stated. "This client have a name?" Kova tapped her chin. "If it gets out that Slilick can't protect the identities of his clients... well, that could certainly make him rather uncomfortable." It was the first time in months that she actually felt like there was something that culd be done about that filthy Saurian. And it wasn't on the snail-pace of the Fleeters.

[Charlie Fox - Room 212]Charlie nodded, agreeing with Kova's choice of words. Olsen was indeed very much like a companion. A useful piece of tech that helped her do her job, true, but still a constant shadow. It served only to confirm what she'd thought previously: of that whole department, Kova would seem to "get it" the most. When the Andorian started sharing information of her own, Charlie's arms fell to her side, no longer pressed tightly against her chest in a defensive fold. She took a step closer and listened, her head cocked to one side, her eyes very slightly narrowed in thought. "Gross..." She muttered at the mention of the Grazerite, but she didn't interrupt further. This was mostly new information to her, so she did not want to give Kova an excuse to pull her cooperation, even if it only turned out to be temporary. "Van Morii."Charlie saw no reason at that moment to sit on that name, or protect it. Xyla was dead and her client list could help her find out why. "Shavana Morii's husband - the Federation Ambassador. He met her in the Alibi. He seemed pushy." She didn't have to point out just how potentially damaging the whole thing could be to the Morii family, even if it did win sympathy for Shavana. She took another step closer. "So presumably you saw a number of her clients in that surveillance compilation."

[ Kova Sh'qaleq - Room 212, Twilight Hotel & Casino, Front Ear Station ] Kova's eyes narrowed at the mention of Shavana Morii's husband being responsible for causing a bit of a scene in public with Xyla. If anyone had an excuse at keeping up appearances, it would certainly be him. First, of all, for the sake of his wife's image, and secondly to stay out of his wife's crosshairs. "It may be worth it, trying to get an audience with him. See if anything tracks out of the ordinary," Kova said aloud as a mental note. As Charlie asked about anyone being caught on surveillance, Kova's head tilted to the side slightly. "Not clients," she responded. "Xyla always did business in neutral locations like here in the hotel... the holosuites.... She didn't bring any work home. If someone went home with her, then it was personal." Kova tapped her chin. "There was one person that Xyla definitely didn't want seen coming from her quarters: that Romulan officer that works with the Nyberrite Alliance. He strikes me as the type that really values his privacy."

[Charlie Fox - Room 212]Kova might have been making mental notes aloud, but Charlie was ready to make something official. She plucked a PADD from the table where she'd left Olsen, and began tapping on it, pulling up various articles and calendars. "Let's. He's still here. I'm sure I can request an interview with him via the proper FNN channels, say it's about his wife's role in the upcoming talks." Her tone was nonchalant, like it was no major thing, but she at least knew that she'd cross all of her T's later and ensure everything seemed above-board to the man and his wife's team of public relations experts. She worked quickly, all the while listening to the Andorian as she explained how little Xyla used her personal quarters for clients. At the mention of the Alliance, Charlie looked upwards, eyes sharp. "Romulan officer?" The hand holding the PADD dropped a little as she thought. "Chromar?" It was Charlie's business to know the who's-who of the station, whether they be civilian, fleet or otherwise. This bloke was definitely otherwise. She let out a breath between pursed lips, shaking her head. "I had no idea." Of all the clients Xyla could potentially have engaged with, Charlie thought that perhaps the Alliance officer should get bumped to the top of their suspect list. "How do we get to him?" She was automatically already including Kova in her plans. Or perhaps it was she who was insinuating herself into Kova's investigation. Either way, she'd made herself pretty clear.

[ Kova Sh'qaleq - Room 212, Twilight Casino & Hotel, Front Ear Station ] Kova turned to study Charlie, watching as she nimbly navigated her way along the padd, discovering that Van Morii was still on the station, and possibly having some insight into his intinerary. Either way, it seemed the reporter's plan was to gain access to him through the guise of an interview. It was clever to play off the man's hubris. Kova slowly nodded. "Very clever, Charlie Fox," Kova remarked. She also seemed to recognize the difficulty that would come with cornering a man like Major Chromar. He was an Alliance Intelligence officer. One of those titles made it difficult to access the man. The pair of them made it nigh impossible. Somehow, it seemed that subterfuge may not be in their best interests. "With him, it may be best to approach him directly," Kova suggested. "We could simply tell him that he is likely to be implicated publicly in the investigation of Xyla's murder. A story you plan to run soon. A man in his position would prefer to avoid the publicity."Of course, Kova had no intention of simply taking his word. She'd have to find a way to corroborate any alibi without Chromar realizing she was doing so. With a man of Chromar's resources, that typically meant doing so in plain sight. "How is your... poker face?"
