[Charlie Fox - Room 212]Charlie wasn't used to being complimented or encouraged, least of all when it came to the aspects of her personality that others found unattractive or deceptive. She wasn't sure if it was the words or the way Kova said her full name like that that caused the embarrassing tint of blush to heat her cheeks a little, but she tried determinedly to ignore it and carry on as though nothing had been said. It wasn't hard; the topic of conversation was a rather fascinating one. She considered Kova's advice, happy to defer to the other's suggestion regarding the Major. At Kova's question, Charlie managed a smile. "It's decent." There were times when Charlie did not bother to hide how she felt, and then there were others that required her to be outwardly charming, affable, in order to get people to tell her all sorts of things that they wouldn't normally. She had no expectation that such things would work on Alliance Intel officers, but at the very least she'd be comfortable. "I manage to hide my general dislike for most people well enough when it suits." She placed the PADD back on the table and looked at the Andorian intently. "What do you have in mind?"

[ Kova Sh'qaleq - Room 212, Twilight Casino & Hotel, Front Ear Station ] Charlie Fox seemed to believe that she could carry on a facade without tipping their hand. That was good, because the people they were looking to interrogate would not easily part with whatever information they had. Morii had not only his reputation, but his wife's to consider. There was also the annoying fact that he was a telepath to contend with. As for Chromar... the dangers that surrounded that man were just as compound. "Because I feel that these interviews will be... unorthodox," Kova stated. "I think it will be necessary that we are both present at each of these if we are to be successsful. I can easily sell you as the author of a scathing article to Chromar. Can you explain my presence to Morii?" The Andorian assumed it should be easy enough. Though, she didn't want to put Morii on the defensive if he became suspicious of her presence.

[Charlie Fox - Room 212]"I've always wanted my own personal assistant," Charlie suggested, unable to stop herself. One would have thought that the serious circumstances and the fact that she'd just lost someone she might have had more than one feeling for would have given her a little sense of propriety. Alas, no. The recovery was quick enough, however. She waved her hand, dismissing her own words, and then pointed toward the holorecorder on the table. "Olsen here hasn't been performing as optimally as he should of late. I require a technical consultant. I can make it official, put the requisition through the FNN, even invoice them for the day. It should hold under any precursory scrutiny." Then she paused, eyeing the Andorian for a little longer, before she released the tight hold she had against her chest and offered a hand to her. It was a human gesture, of course, but Charlie felt it suitably symbolic. "I guess this makes us allies."

[ Kova Sh'qaleq - Room 212, Twilight Casino & Hotel, Front Ear Station ] As Charlie quickly made a quip about always wanting a personal assistant, Kova's eyes narrowed. She didn't actually comment on the suggestion, sensing that it was made in jest. Charlie then amended the idea of stating that Kova could pose as a technical consultant, especially if she did some paperwork to make it look as if her drone unit had been malfunctioning. Kova rolled the idea in her mind and then nodded. "That will be sufficient," Kova said. With a plan seemingly in play, it seemed the only thing to do now was to press forward. Charlie then said something else that gave Kova pause. She had called the pair of them allies. Kova stared across the room at her. It had been some time since Kova felt allied with anything, or anyone. There was only one response that seemed to flow naturally. "For now," the Andorian agreed. "Contact me once you've arranged the interview."Kova then turned to take her leave. She paused at the door, sparing another look in Charlie's direction. "I always believed Xyla to be a good judge of character," Kova said. She didn't linger long after those words, and continued to move beyond the door's threshold.

[Charlie Fox - Private Function Room, Twilight Hotel & Casino]Some time following the events of Season 1: Event 10 - Shore Leave in the Twilight CityMonths had passed since the night Charlie had returned to her accommodation to find Kova Sh'qaleq nosing through her stuff. She'd always known that investigations could be a lengthy, tiresome affair, but they'd been unlucky with this one. Van Morii, husband to the renowned senator and the first on their Shit List, had left the station on business the next day. With a return visit on the books for the future, coinciding with the Morriis' involvement with upcoming Caledonian re-negotiations, Charlie had managed to snare an hour slot with the man. She'd submitted the request with all relevant paper work and clearances attached, and in return she'd received a list of questions that she was not allowed to ask. Naturally, she'd ignore that once she got him in front of her, but beforehand, she'd toe whatever line she needed to to get what she wanted. The room was one of the suites used for high-rolling guests who preferred an element of privacy when they gambled. Often small groups were hosted there, and it was the perfect venue for intimate chats. Two large, comfortable sofas faced each other in the center of the sitting area, a low coffee table between them. Off-side she'd arranged for a spread containing what was reportedly Morii's favorite delicacies to be laid out. The bar was fully stocked, but Charlie didn't expect they would have much time to use it. =//= "Kova, it's me. He's five minutes out." =//= Charlie adjusted her blouse for the fifth time since she'd stepped inside the room. Used to simple vest tops and leggings, the suit of a pencil skirt and buttoned-up white blouse felt ridiculous on her. She smoothed down her hair, fixing a few stray strands back into the simple knot she'd tied at the back. Then she turned her attention to Olsen, who would be programmed to stealthily capture every angle that the drone possibly could.

[ Kova Sh'qaleq - Hotel Lobby, Twilight Hotel & Casino] The Andorian sat in the lobby of the hotel frustrated. Why? Because it had been someone's bright idea to look like she didn't want to kick someone through a wall. Where was the fun in that? Kova fidgeted slightly the orange pant suit. It was bright, and Kova couldn't understand why they didn't have time to replicate it in black. She continued to type away on her computer. Were anyone to look over her shoulder, it would appear that she was editing footage, but there were a pair of screens that were actually live feed. One of them was tapped into Olsen's feed, the other cycling through the promenade's footage as she watched for any sign of Morii. She conveniently laid a forged FNN badge on the end table next to her seat on top of a briefcase. It should answer enough questions without her having to. The man hadn't been easy to get ahold of, having left on business. Though the return of the Moriis back to Front Ear had been fortunate, and Charlie had been quite vigilant in securing the interview. She could hear the human in her ear stating that it was almost time. Kova examined the footage and her eyes widened slightly. =/= "Your date is here," =/= she said. Her eyes rose from her screen to see the man stroll towards the hotel's lifts. =/= "You sure you don't want company?" =/= She allowed the question to linger as she watched the feed of the room. =/= "I bet he'll find you very... pretty." =/= Kova's lips curled into a playful smirk. =/= "I think the other reporter showed a bit more leg though." =/=
{Now You See Me...} [ Van Morii - Private Function Room, Twilight Hotel & Casino] Her name hadn't been one that he recognized right away. It seemed that Charlie Fox was more of an investigative journalist and possibly new to the world of politics. Her work seemed to indicate she liked to moonlight with Starfleet on some of their missions. Perhaps she had finally come to her senses and decided to go where the real news was, or maybe FNN simply thought it was time for a fresh face. Hers was certainly one that he could appreciate. As he took his final steps to the room where they were scheduled to meet, he checked his reflection while passing a mirror before finally reaching out to press the door's chime.

[Charlie Fox - Private Function Room, Twilight Hotel & Casino]=//= "What, you don't like to watch?" =//= She shot back smoothly when her "partner" asked if she wanted company. Charlie held up Olsen, her brow raised as she stared into the center lens and gave Kova a knowing look. Some people might not appreciate a bit of biting banter when preparing to question a potential conspirator, or even murderer, but weirdly enough it seemed to settle Charlie's nerves. =//= "The other reporter was a Kelpien, Kova. They got nothing but leg." =//= Using her thumb she tapped another command into the PADD, and then re-released Olsen to the room and the Andorian's control, should she need to take it. A few minutes later the room's chime would sound and Charlie sucked in a breath. =//= "Five gets you ten he's a breast man... Just my luck." =//= She muttered, more to herself than to her audience of one, while she looked a mite critically at her blouse. With one last tug on her skirt, she approached the doors as they opened. "Mr. Morii, welcome. Thank you so much for taking the time to speak with me." She reached out a hand to shake in customary human greeting. "Come in, make yourself comfortable." [Vaken Tariwat - Hotel Lobby, Twilight Hotel & Casino]Beta ShiftThe Bolian server was in love. She sat, so prim and proper and with that secret smile of a smirk on her face, gazing at those screens and her obviously very serious work. The seconds, minutes ticked by, and still he found himself unable to approach her. He didn't deserve to breathe her air. She was a goddess in blue and orange pantsuit perfection. She would be thirsty, he thought, she was working so hard. She would welcome his offer of a quencher, surely? If he could be of service to her then perhaps he would be worthy of her gaze. Vaken inhaled deeply in attempt to settle himself, then strode over with a purpose he hadn't felt since the week before, when that stunning Betazoid had come in and ordered tacos. "Madam," he croaked. He held up a finger, cleared his throat and then started again. "Madam. Might I interest you in some refreshment? On the house, of course."

[ Kova Sh'qaleq - Hotel Lobby, Twilight Hotel & Casino] There was something about Charlie Fox that was different from the human company she kept. It felt as if her "partnership" with Charlie was one of the truly mutually beneficial relationships that she had. Perhaps it was the warrior spirit within the woman. She didn't seem inclined to back down from anyone. =/= "You? Always," =/= Kova replied briefly with a smirk as Charlier stared back at her through Olsen's camera. Kova had to conceed the reporter's point. Kelpians were all legs. The Andorian continued to type away, not ignoring the proposed bet. =/= "You're one," =/= Kova remarked, though she wasn't going to let the clear disadvantage that Charlie was at if Morii was in fact a breast man. =/= "I offered backup." =/=Only a few moments had passed as she watched Morii enter the room. She then heard the voice of a Bolian offering her a drink on the house. Kova almost dismissed him immediately, not caring for the distraction. Still, free drinks? It was prudent to maintain cover. Charlie certainly would. "S.o.B," Kova said aloud, but to no one in particular. She seemed to realize, she had expressed her recollection aloud. "I mean... Sex on the Beach. Thank you." Her eyes then returned to her screen, as she continued to watch the Charlie and her Betazoid guest.
[ Van Morii, Private Function Room, Twilight Hotel & Casino] As the door opened, Van's eyes instantly took in the sight of Charlie Fox. He was skilled enough to get a full picture of the young woman without staring. His eyes remained with hers, casually dipping to see her outstretched hand before taking it, and raising his eyes back to meet Charlie's. "Ms. Fox, I believe the pleasure is mine," he said as he accepted her invitation and entered the room. His eyes immediately noticed the drone. Clearly, she was using it as her recording device. Throughout the room, nothing else seemed out of the ordinary. "Thank you, he said as he moved towards one of the vacant couches. "I must confess, I was intrigued by your request for this interview. FNN typically goes with more seasoned reporters where my wife is concerned." Van chuckled slightly. "Not that I'm complaining, of course. Just... pleasantly surprised."

[Vaken Tariwat - Hotel Lobby, Twilight Hotel & Casino]Beta ShiftAt first he thought his heart would never feel such sorrow as when she dismissed him, but then he realised that it would know the very pit of despair when she called him a son of a bitch. His hand clutched to his chest and he swallowed several times against the sudden lump in his throat. He was halfway between bowing and backing away, feet shuffling backward with dejection, his face managing not to look as though he was a broken man within, when she clarified. "Oh! A Sex on the Beach, of course, what an excellent choice, Madam!" He beamed, his smile extra white against his skin. "Right away."He'd give her the best Sex on the Beach she'd ever had. [Charlie Fox - Private Function Room, Twilight Hotel & Casino]"Ah, well, our usual political correspondent was dispatched a couple of weeks ago to Argus Major to cover that whole Talorian murder scandal," she supplied, her tone suggesting she was enjoying imparting that little bit of gossip. It also had the benefit of being the truth. "And honestly, sir, I've recently become aware of how much more appealing this side of the job can be." That, was not the truth. But she smiled and took a seat in the sofa across from the one he chose. "We all have to start somewhere, right?" She asked as she repositioned herself so she was perched forward, closer to the edge of her seat. The wave of her hand was subtle, but Olsen's response was immediate. The small drone whipped through the air to position itself just above and to the left of her.

[ Kova Sh'qaleq - Hotel Lobby, Twilight Hotel & Casino] Kova smiled slightly at the rather eager Bolian. She didn't think too much of it, as Bolians were typically quite eager to please in her experience. As he left to get her drink, she turned her eyes back to her screen. It appeared that Morii was making himself rather comfortable. Olsen had just whipped around, from the vantage point right alongside Charlie. They were at a disadvantage given that Morii was a walking lie detector if he chose to be. There may not be much they could do about that, but perhaps they could level the playing field a bit. Kova's hands quickly moved about her keyboard as she keyed up some software. It was designed to detect very subtle changes in the subject's appearance: sudden ticks, change in facial blood flow, change in voice cadence and pitch. "He give you hell, punch him in the face," Kova said. That was much safer than any safe word. It'd hopefully give Kova a chance to get to the room if an issue did arise.
[ Van Morii, Private Function Room, Twilight Hotel & Casino] Van nodded slowly as Charlie explained that the typical political correspondent had been send away to cover the Talorians. And that was when the recognition fell upon him. He wasn't sure, but wondered if it was joy that he sensed at the mention of the murder scandal. If he had, it made sense as Fox's name quickly seemed more familiar. "Yes, there's a beginning and an ending for each of us," Van said smiling. "All we can do is make the most of the time in between."He leaned back in the couch. "So, what exactly is it that you want to ask of me, Ms. Fox?" He took a deep breath, his arm stretching over the back of the couch. "What exactly can I do to help make your dreams come true?"

[Charlie Fox - Private Function Room, Twilight Hotel & Casino]If these were any other circumstances, Charlie probably would have rolled her eyes at the man's shallow philosophizing. A beginning and an end indeed, oh, and what else? Yes, of course, a bit in the middle, too. Basic prick. Instead, she did absolutely nothing but smile placidly at him. Kova's words in her ear, encouraging her to fight back if needed, bolstered her somewhat. Morii made himself comfortable with an enviable speed. When he delivered his question her brows raised; a genuine reaction. The smile turned wry. "What a loaded question," she pointed out, wondering if this was going to be one of those exchanges that left her wondering who was interviewing whom. "Don't happen to have a Pulitzer up that sleeve of yours, do you?" Taking his question literally was probably a safer route than taking the obvious flirtation path, at least this early on. "All good things to those who wait." She waved her hand, somehow managing to dismiss herself. "Let's start with some simple, lifestyle stuff, if that's okay with you. Both you and your wife come here frequently, one assumes it's necessary to use Front Ear as a base of sorts. But what is it you do here when not engaged in duties; is there anything that sets our station apart, that keeps you happily returning?"

[ Van Morii, Private Function Room, Twilight Hotel & Casino] Van Morii smiled at the young reporter. It was a stroke to his ego that she was so easily moved by his words. Still, he wasn't about to let it go to his head. He simply nodded slightly in her direction. "A mere shadow compared to fine work of a journalist of your caliber, Miss Fox," he replied. Her comment about good things coming to those who waited certainly piqued his interest. Perhaps Miss Fox was seeking to be something more than 'just another journalist.' She proceeded to ask him about how he and his wife frequented Front Ear station so often. It seemed to be a rather routine question, but he could sense that it was somewhat probing. He smiled at the reporter. "Well, the Federation certainly keeps my wife busy in this region of space. And you're right, it makes sense that the station tends to be a frequent focal point for us. Beyond the logistical advantages of the station, I find the people themselves to be quite an attraction. Venturing on the edge of the unknown, it's just a unique way to get the adrenaline pumping." Van took a deep breath. "I'm sure you can relate, of course."
[ Kova Sh'qaleq - Hotel Lobby, Twilight Hotel & Casino] As Kova sat there listening, her lips curled in a slight frown. Just hearing this guy's voice made her feel... icky. "I would say we should beat the information out of him, but he'd probably enjoy that," Kova remarked quietly. Clearly, they'd made the right call to allow Charlie to take point on Morii's interrogation. Had Kova been along with him, she'd probably be threatening to expose his fingertip to liquid nitrogren.

[Charlie Fox - Private Function Room, Twilight Hotel & Casino]Charlie thought Kova's new plan was probably the superior one, especially since Morii's face had turned out to be so punchable. Automatically, she dismissed the compliment as an attempt at flattery; she was under the impression that he actually had no idea who she was, let alone what the standard of her work might be. But she held the smile, and when he began to answer her question, found herself nodding slightly along in encouragement. And then in response to her probe, he volleyed with another one of his own. "Ah, a fellow adrenaline junkie I see. I can relate," she said with a pleasant smile, a cheeky crinkle to the corner of her eyes. "One doesn't come all the way out to the unknown for a quiet life, that's for sure." Olsen began to move steadily, re-orienting himself for a fresh, closer angle of the interviewee. "It lends the people living here a kind of freedom, almost like the small disconnect from the center of what we consider our civilisation is what opens us up to... stepping closer to that edge." She made a purposeful show of pausing in her movements, fingers no longer tapping a note or two on her PADD, her eyes locked on his as though she could telegraph the hidden message of her words without elaborating further. "Though I am surprised you've managed to figure that out so quickly," she added, tapping on her PADD once again. Her cheeky smile turned a shade rueful. "It took some of us a little longer."Once her fingers stopped moving, a message would flash across Kova's screen: GOING TO MAKE A SHOW OF DEACTIVATING OLSEN. OVERRIDE. [Vaken Tariwat - Hotel Lobby, Twilight Hotel & Casino]Beta ShiftA tall glass of ice, then the vodka, the peach schnapps and the freshest fruit juices, sourced from Earth and Risa. Vaken Tariwat stirred gently using a special spoon, and then garnished with glacé cherries and burnt orange slices. It was probably the best Sex on the Beach he'd ever made. He loaded it on a tray, along with three ramekins filled with delicious nuts and snacks, then a small, dainty vase with a single miniature sunflower. He fussed over his presentation a little more before declaring it somewhat satisfactory. He approached the goddess in the lobby and coughed. "Madam, your S.o.B."He began to onload the contents of his beautiful tray onto the small side table beside her, his eyes naturally drawn not just to her, but toward the screen that she studied so ardently.

[ Van Morii, Private Function Room, Twilight Hotel & Casino] Van chuckled as Charlie identified him as a fellow adrenaline junkie. "It's one of the most natural ways to really feel alive," Van said. He took a deep breath as he allowed the words to linger between them. "Octogenarians find it in solar sailing, I tend to prefer a more natural experience." Van couldn't deny the temptation to take a slightest peek was so great, and only growing with his intrigue in this reporter. "I've always considered myself a quick study," he boasted. "You stay on this station regularly," Van observed. "Are there any hidden gems here that I've yet to discover?"
[ Kova Sh'qaleq - Hotel Lobby, Twilight Hotel & Casino] Kova continued to watch the screen. There was a part of her, wishing she had simply been waiting in the closet, so that she could spring out and put an end to this nauseating banter. How Charlie hadn't lost her lunch in Morii's lap, she'd never know. Though, one small treat seemed to present itself as Vaken returned with her drink. He was so polite as he presented his drink. It was then that the message appeared on Kova's screen. It stole her eyes from the drink that was being placed on the table as she quickly read over it. "Deactivating? Wha--?" Kova quickly noticed Vaken's wondering eyes. She had no idea how much he'd seen, but quickly pulled the screen a bit closer to herself. Why couldn't he be a normal creep and simply stare at her chest. "You know what else I could use? What is it that humans call them? They're red... with spots all over them. Some sort of berry, I believe." It was as if the name accompanied the thought. "Strawberries! Could you bring me a small bowl of them. Frozen if possible."She needed the Bolian to be all obedient and disappear before Charlie did something... ill-advised. Of course, when had the woman ever done anything that wasn't ill-advised?

[Vaken Tariwat - Hotel Lobby, Twilight Hotel & Casino]Beta ShiftVaken Tariwat straightened up quickly, eyes blinking furiously, in response to the goddess' urgent movements. He had offended her! She was obviously very particular and private about her work and messages, and he had violated that! He couldn't even deliver a drink without causing upset. But who was this individual who sent such words that required such enthusiastic protection? Who was this Olsen? The vision of Vaken Tariwat and Kova Sh'qaleq, walking hand in hand down the Promenade, preceded by two perfect little blue children was beginning to melt away in his mind's eye... And then! A lifeline! "Strawberries?" He asked uncertainly at first, but then he began nodding enthusiastically. "Absolutely. Excellent choice! I will return momentarily, Madam, with your strawberries."He bowed again and backed away. They had no frozen strawberries on the premises, but that wouldn't stop him. The hunt was on and the clock was ticking. [Charlie Fox - Private Function Room, Twilight Hotel & Casino]"I'd have to agree," she said, her nod slow, her expression amused, "The best pleasures are surely the most simple ones." Charlie actually believed a lot of that. She'd done some ridiculous, reckless things in her young life, but they were fleeting experiences. She could conjure memories of dangerous encounters, but the memory very rarely held anywhere near the same kind of high or adrenaline rush. She held up her hand, palm upwards, and without delay the little holorecorder responded. It positioned itself safely in her grasp, and she tapped a command on her PADD. "I think to properly answer your question, we might need to slide a little into off-the-record territory." Charlie smiled a cheeky grin, the one that always brought the dimple in her right cheek to the fore. She'd noticed a long time ago that it seemed to have something of a disarming effect on people. She leaned forward to place Olsen on the coffee table, and stayed in that position as she continued to talk. "There are places that hold private parties; the kind that require you to be invited. There's also What Lies Beneath. It's ostensibly a lingerie shop, though it offers what's beneath, too, and no direct invitation is needed. It's a good introduction, if you haven't already had one."
