[ Princess Elana - VIP Quarters, Deck 6] " Thank you Phoebe Volante, that in essence is what we must do, even if we did not know the individual personally" Elana replied with a slight bow of her head, knowing it wasn't exactly normal circumstances or common to have a Bataq present for such things. However given the situation she was sure that Gods would still recognise the prayers to send the departed soul to the Gates of the Underworld and for their journey to continue beyond them. When asked what she needed to do, Elana looked at Phoebe and answered her. " Once I light the prayer candles, I need you to remain silent and to focus on the flames as I recite the prayer, our minds need to be clear in order for it to be successful".[Ens. Phoebe Volante - VIP Quarters, Deck 6] Phoebe simply continued to smile and nod as the Princess spoke. She had to keep her mind clear? Would the candle be able to tell if she was thinking about dancing Vulcans instead? She made herslf comfortable in her place as she suspected this may take some time, many cultures death prayers and rites took many hours. And while she herself didn'tfollow any particular path in this regard, she would respect those that do. That is the Starfleet way, after all. "I understand Princess. Candles, silence, flame. You pray, I watch." She made one final shuffle before looking to Elana again, "Ready whenever you are, Your Highnes." Thea Baker (princess)

[ Lt Laurel Andrews - Crime Scene, Deck 12] When Laurel arrived in dispatch that morning following a late night to ensure that everything was safe and secure for the Talorian delegates in the Banquet Hall. Little did she know that she would be dealing with a murder investigation as opposed to just being in close proximity should their guests need anything. The mission chief had stayed long enough to get what details they had, before she promptly turned around and made her way to the now sealed off deck to assist with the investigation and knew that Crewman T'Karra was already at the scene. As she exited the turbolift once she had accessed the deck, Laurel paused for a moment as Commodore Perry made a call requesting a discreet detail for Primary L'Sho and included his current location and instructions. This was an interesting development and Laurel quickly put in a call to dispatch, sending Ensign Morales and PO3 Hannigan to Sickbay, repeating the order from Perry, then acknowledged the Commodore's call. =/\= Andrews to Perry, acknowledged, I've sent two officers down to Sickbay, I'll be on Deck 12, assisting with the investigation, will contact you again once we have some information =/\= Laurel then proceeded along the corridor, spotting T'Karra guarding the scene and soon ascertained that this must of been where they had found the body. " Crewman, report".
****************************** [Ensign Morales & PO3 Hannigan - Sickbay, Deck 7] Ensign Juan Morales and Petty Officer Lucille Hannigan had just begun their morning patrol, when the call came from Chief Andrews informing them of a change in orders. Once Lucille had acknowledged her and spending a few minutes, quietly discussing the situation. Both officers arrived at Sickbay just in time to see the Talorian guard exit, leaving them wondering what was going on. However neither of them had wanted to query it considering the size of him, so took up a position either side of the door and if the Primary asked, they were here to provide additional security and protection due to the current situation.

[ Thea - Sickbay, Deck 7] With a look towards Velal as the Crewman seemed to challenge the Primary's Bodyguard, Thea hoped that there wouldn't be any further issues at least not until her and Isaiah could speak to Jovireh and find out why she was extremely wary about L'Sho. Her warning hadn't left Thea's immediate focus either as L'Sho then pointed out that Isaiah hadn't answered his question. However with tensions at risk, it appeared the Primary was satisfied with her own response as he informed them, that he had assured Perry that he had their full cooperation before mentioning what he expected in return. Now she understood what the Commodore had meant about L'Sho taking it better than expected and saw no problem with keeping him in the loop. So the Doctor acknowledged his thanks with a polite and respectful nod, before he turned down Isaiah's offer to assist with the ritual. That wasn't too surprising if she really thought about it and if L'Sho was somehow responsible for Kaelpra's murder then she doubted that he would do anything to derail that in front of them. Then again when he told her what she could and couldn't do, yes it was frustrating as it might prove impossible to find the poison that had been used. But they had to respect the Talorian's request and not make things anymore difficult than they already were. " Understood Primary" she replied, as he then allowed them to witness the Rites of Do'Jame and despite the circumstances, appreciated the opportunity to do so as L'Sho explained about the cleansed waters and recited what must be some kind of prayer. When he then asked for the vial to be replicated as they would have to adapt the ceremony, Thea understood as they were very far away from Talor Prime and with Isaiah taking care of the replication, she knew that if anything was suspect, he would be able to identify it. That left them waiting along with the return of Derk't who had gone to fetch the oil that was needed. " Is there anything else that we can get you to help with the ritual, Primary?" Thea asked, wanting to do what she could, considering the limitations that they faced. ************************ [ Princess Elana - VIP Quarters, Deck 6] Now that Phoebe Volante was prepared to assist with the prayer ritual, Elana looked at the security officer and nodded as she responded to her request. Then the Princess lit the four candles, one large red one surrounded by three smaller black ones and once the flames began to flicker and come to life, Elana finally spoke. " Let us begin" she stated clearly, then began to recount the prayer needed to guide the departed towards the gates to the underworld. " Sh'tek, koma, es'tat, unduma se Kamara, unduma se Rotek, Rotek rutemba, se Kamara, allembra, allembra".Then the Princess fell silent, closing her eyes as was custom, staying like that for a few more minutes before she opened them and blew out all but the red candle. " That must continue to burn and now we feast and drink" she explained as her advisor Ma'lan appeared carrying a jug containing jumjum wine and a tray of traditional seafood delicacies, breads and fruits. " Thank you Ma'lan that will be all for now" Elana said gratefully as Ma'lan nodded then respectfully retreated into the other room. Elana then poured two goblets of wine and helped herself to some of the food on offer, whilst gesturing for Phoebe Volante to do the same.

She was puzzled for a moment when she heard Elana's prayer in her own language, causing the Ensign to check that she had her commbadge with her, which she did. The universal translator had just chosen to not work at this moment. Perhaps due to the prayers cadence being similar to both Klingon and Romulan it couldn't decide if it was one of them or neither, so chose to not translate. That may have to be looked into if the Talorians are accepted into the Federation. Once the prayer was done Elana gestured for Phoebe to eat and drink, "Perhaps it was fate that made us miss breakfast, so our stomachs were empty to give the departed a proper feast." She beamed a smile over to the Princess as she raised a glass of the jumjum juice, "To the one we lost."After taking a sip and a few bites of food Phoebe looked back to Elana, "When a member of Starfleet dies, we place them into a casket fashioned from the casing of one of our probes and set them adrift into space. This is so, even in death, they can continue their exploration of the universe forever. After, we too feast and drink to celebrate their life, tell stories of them, remember them as they were." She took another drink from her glass, "I'm curious what each of the candles are for. I'm guessing the red one represents life?" Thea Baker (princess)

Perhaps it was or because she needed the sustenance now that she was recovering from the indulgences of the night before. " Perhaps but we may never know" she replied solemnly as Phoebe then raised a glass and gave a toast to the departed soul. " Se Kamara" Elana repeated as she copied Phoebe Volante's movements and then took a sip, before returning to her bread and seafood. Feeling a lot more like herself, the Princess then listened as Phoebe Volante then explained about the human custom when it came to honouring their dead, curious as to the vessel that they were placed in. However appreciated the slight differences as well as how they were similar. " It seems that whilst there are differences we also have similar practices" Elana commented as she was then asked more about the candles. Another sip of her drink and Elana nodded as she explained about the candles. " Yes you are correct the red candle does represent life or more precisely the life of the departed, we keep it lit for at least a day in order to remember them. The three black ones have their own significance in accordance with prayer ritual and have to be extinguished first for the prayer to be heard".

Phoebe Volante - VIP Quarters, Deck 6] Phoebe was curious as to the meaning behind the three other candles. Perhaps the Talorians believed in something similar to many Earth religions of 'Mind, Body and Soul'. She was quite curious but decided these questions could wait as Elana seemed to be in an understandably blue mood and instead opted to return to her previous question, "So, you were going to tell me about your hobbies? Things you enjoy? Things you don't enjoy?" Phoebe usually didn't like to ask too many questions at once, she knew how overwhelming that could be, but on this occasion the overwhelming could be useul in trying to keep Elana from falling too far into the abyss of despair. Especially as the negotiations could quite possibly depends on the finding of the investigation and how those in charge choose to proceed. That and Phoebe simply didn't like the sad look her new friend had and was determined to remove it. Thea Baker (princess)

[ PO1 Kaya Som | Deck 7, Shuttlebay ]
Kaya had left Charlie's quarters and made her way back to main engineering to find something else useful to do for the day. By then, word of the Deck 12 lockdown had spread as had the reason for it. Murder. Speculation on who the victim was ran wild, some people even using their comm badges to contact their shipmakes to make sure they answered. And, somehow, a whole rachet of engineers became security experts, voicing opinions of how locking down a deck however many hours after the fact would do little to stop their movements throughout the ship. Maybe someone forgot to hit the big red 'intruder alert' button, someone mused.
Shortly, Kaya ended up on her own on Deck 7 in the main shuttlebay. One of the shuttles was handling poorly ever since the nebula and needed an experienced computer systems tech to do a deep dive as the diagnostics were playing innocent.
Kaya was on her back under the flight control panel inside the shuttle when she heard something out in the shuttlebay.

[ Commodore Calvin Perry - Deck 12 --> Bridge] Perry left the security officers collecting their evidence and carrying out his orders to head up to the bridge. As the turbolift swooshed through its tubes, the commodore leaned against the side and pondered everything that had happened. Despite the acrimony for the Talorians, he couldn't imagine any of the Starfleet officers doing this, he didn't think Charlie Fox was a likely suspect either, though he didn't really know her. That just left the Talorians themselves. Perhaps it was biased, but considering the treachery they'd already shown, it seemed most likely that the murderer must be among their numbers. Since most of them were on Deck 12 already, and Deck 12 was locked down, that at least kept them contained. =/\= Perry to security, put a discreet detail on Primary L'Sho. Don't obstruct him unless he tries to enter an area that's off-limits. He's currently in sickbay. Stay outside until they leave. =/\= The lift doors opened and Perry stepped onto the bridge, his glance taking in the busily-working officers and non-coms, including the jg lieutenant in the command seat. Lieutenant, he said mildly, plopping into the CO's chair. He didn't intend to take over the watch since he'd probably be having to run hither and yon as the investigation proceeded. [ Lt (JG) Joshua Niles - Bridge - USS Mac ]Niles was elbows-deep in reviewing the report from the last set of drills the torpedo room crews had gone through when the turbolift doors hissed open. The readiness statuses of the crewmembers actually working the various weapons systems, not simply operating from a Bridge or Battle Bridge console, was something he kept a close eye on; after all, it would not do to lose any kind of weapons capability at the worst possible time because their crews could not rectify a fault, or even operate those weapons in local control if absolutely necessary. And so far he had been pleased with what he was seeing... until a discreet light flashed on his console, courtesy of a Petty Officer stationed close to the doors who advised him that the Commodore was on the Bridge. It was an artifact from the days under Captain Ellis that he was not announced, and just as the junior flag officer sat down, the young JG looked up from his reports. "Good morning, Sir," he started even as his hand moved on the board before him to bring up an overview of the ship's status to the main viewscreen. "We are still on profile for arrival on time at Argos Major, all ship systems are nominal. Only thing of import to report would be a murder and the sealing of Deck 12 as the investigation is ongoing."Truth be told, that was not much of a report, and given that no further information had made its way to the Bridge about the homicide, there was indeed very little to say about it. "Do you wish to take the Bridge, Sir?"Generally speaking a senior officer would announce their intention to take the conn when they seated themselves in the center chair, but it was not an absolute necessity. Especially not from someone of such towering seniority as a flag officer did so. However, not knowing Commodore Perry particularly well, Niles instead preferred to put the option to him, lest he step upon his immensely senior toes by doing something as minor as acknowledging a report when he was expected to have relinquished the watch.
Tag Ozu Saya [ Commodore Calvin Perry - Bridge] Perry gave his attention to Niles as the man made his report and nodded in appreciation when he was done. Yes, I just came from dealing with things on Deck 12. You keep the conn for now. I imagine I'll be called away more than once as the investigation progresses. The commodore swiped a hand over his face and glanced over at the communications station. Get me whoever's in charge of this meeting on Argos Major.
Might as well give them a head's up, he added in a mutter. These were the times Perry missed being a junior officer. Usually, they were the busy ones; all he could do was sit and wait for reports.

[ Princess Elana - VIP Quarters, Deck 6] Once she had explained the purpose of the candles, Elana hoped that would be enough of an explanation since Phoebe Volante was still an outsider and she was likely breaking a number of protocols by even involving her. However that was her cross to bear, as she could rely on the discreetness and loyalty of her own inner circle not to go telling the others about her slightly lax approach. Although if anything was said then Elana had no trouble standing up for herself even if her title and position no longer held any true meaning, at least for now. Her thoughts turning once more to the food and the celebration, until Phoebe Volante reminded her of the question she had asked, prior to the prayer ritual and Elana wasn't one to renege on her word. Shifting position on the cushions, Elana tore some more bread and looked towards Phoebe Volante as she answered her. " So I was Phoebe Volante and I haven't forgotten my promise either" she said. " I enjoy fine food, JumJum wine, spending time with my companions and learning. What I don't enjoy is seeing people hurt, to feel their suffering and injustice".That might shock the Bataq but she had seen horrors on her world, horrors that she wanted to change by being here and encouraging her people to seek help and not take matter into their own hands like her Sister. Once she had spoken, Elana ate some more, falling silent as she didn't want to be rude by talking when eating. **************************** [Shuttlebay - Deck 7] Once the message of a successful kill had been delivered, the hooded figure had been dismissed in order to prepare for their next task. Retreating to their quarters to study the information that they had been given whilst the Federation were kept busy with the discovery of the traitor's body. The reporter was an excellent choice for their second kill, with every intent of making it spectacular and worthy of being asked to silence her once and for all. Her articles had done a lot of damage to their cause but not anymore and so once they had learned where she was, made the final preparations in order to strike. Keeping themselves hidden and locating her quarters, they began to stalk their prey. That was until they spotted one Engineer by the name of Kaya exit the target's quarters. Having taken an interest in the Trill, their plans changed, deciding that they would come back for Fox later as this could mean a bonus kill and how could they resist such a trophy, especially with her markings. Retreating to their quarters, the Killer was able to learn more about the Engineer, discovering thanks to information gathered, that she was the one who had tampered with Talorian technology and led the Bataq to their home world. This was an interesting development and whilst this kill would be for pure fun, perhaps they would be equally rewarded for both the Trill and the Reporter. The prospect had excited them and so a new plan was hatched and soon learned where Kaya had gone too. Now all they had to do was wait for the perfect opportunity to strike. Almost blowing their cover as their robe caught on one of the storage boxes. Ripping it to free themselves, not that they were bothered about such things as they found who they were looking for and grinning beneath the hood, grabbed hold of the Engineer's legs and pulled her out sharply, where she would see a gleaming large ceremonial knife, hovering over her. " This has to be done, you're mine now Kaya Som".

Thea Baker [Deck 7 - Shuttlebay] The realisation and shock in Kaya Som's eyes as she realised that this wasn't some kind of playful prank, had the hooded figure grinning with glee. Enjoying the power and hold they had over the Trill as she started to kick and scream, something they had been hoping for as they liked it when their prey put up a fight. If she hadn't of put up a fight, then that was boring and who would want an easy kill. Certainly not the killer and so they sprung into action, stopping the Trill's attempts to kick them by sitting below their knees, their weight and strength holding her down. Then they looked into her eyes, an evil glint appearing as they struck the side of her face. " Silence or I'll kill you quicker" they threatened, removing the commbadge from her tunic before tossing it to one side. " Now were to start ... ah yes perhaps I'll make those markings of yours bleed" they said with venom in their voice as the knife edged closer.

[USS Mac - Deck 12 - Corridor] [...] "Commodore Perry wants your team to keep this deck on lockdown while the investigators do their job. I've been relieved from duty until someone is available to question me, so if you need anything I'll be in Sick bay." Briefing the other Crewman had been enough of a distraction to calm her slightly, which she was grateful for. Now she stood a better chance of actually making it to Sickbay. Turning and walking towards the turbolift, she stopped and looked over her shoulder at the Vulcan once more. "Oh, and I'm sorry for last night. I should have thought of a different way to get your attention. It won't happen again." And with that, she kept moving. [ Comomdore Calvin Perry - Deck 12 - Talorian Breakfast --> Crime Scene] [...]Perry made his way back to the open panel in the bulkhead where security officers were just beginning to gather evidence. He approached the Vulcan crewman, the one that Dr. Baker had specifically suggested calling. Crewman T'Karra, I'd like regular updates on the progress of the investigation - every hour, or immediately if there's something major. Check the sensor logs as quickly as possible, also make sure that the Talorians don't come this way when they leave." [ Lt Laurel Andrews - Crime Scene, Deck 12] [...]Laurel then proceeded along the corridor, spotting T'Karra guarding the scene and soon ascertained that this must of been where they had found the body. " Crewman, report".[Crime Scene, Deck 12, USS Mac] Crewman Velal's words had stayed with T'Karra long after she had given her pass-ons and left for sickbay. It was likely she had never interacted in such a fashion with Vulcans; the woman could not have known psychic contact of that nature would have affected her so negatively. She would have to let Crewman Velal know that she harbored no ill will towards her the next time they met. T'Karra and her security team had spent the better part of the last hour and a half keeping the area secured, reviewing logs, and providing the Commodore with his regularly requested updates. Thus far, the small investigation team that had accompanied them had yet to discover any evidence of substantial value. At least, not yet. She listened quietly as the hiss of the turbolift doors and footsteps signaled the arrival of someone new. Though it was unlikely that any of her fellow team mates had let anyone through who did not belong on the deck, she still preferred to to be prepared and placed a hand on the grip of her blaster, waiting for the individual to round the corner. "Lieutenant Andrews," she began, recognizing the woman and snapping to attention. "The investigation is progressing per the Commodore's orders. Petty Officer Mat'lekh is currently searching the sensor logs. Crewmen Karavet and Dak are holding entry control points to this corridor to keep any unauthorized personnel, Telorian or otherwise, from disturbing the scene. The investigators have been analyzing the area for approximately 90 minutes." She stool silently, awaiting further orders. It was unlikely the Lieutenant had come all this way unless there was something she needed. Thea Baker Soft Tag: Admin [Perry], Jovireh Velal

[ Lt Laurel Andrews - Crime Scene, Deck 12] Nodding in acknowledgement as T'Karra recognised her and snapped to attention, Laurel then listened as the Crewman gave her an update. It was good to hear that the investigation was well under way and with each individual dealing with an important aspect, Laurel was satisfied that every base had been covered. Although given the amount of time already spent if there had been any results she would of heard about them and just like the murder itself, it seemed as though the Killer hadn't left any trace. However that didn't mean that her or her team were about to give up as there had to be something and so as Laurel answered, a new idea had popped into her mind. " Good work so far but considering we haven't found anything yet, I'm thinking that the killer didn't stay around for too long afterwards" she began as she looked around the immediate vicinity. " I know Primary L'Sho is currently in Sickbay and we have officers posted outside and with this deck locked down, I believe that now is the perfect time for us to conduct a search of the other decks. If you come with me Crewman, we'll make a start and I'll have other teams dispatched across the ship".It may a little extreme but with a killer on the loose, they couldn't be to complacent and this might be the only way they could catch them.

{Hooded figure} [Deck 7 - Shuttlebay] The realisation and shock in Kaya Som's eyes as she realised that this wasn't some kind of playful prank, had the hooded figure grinning with glee. "Silence or I'll kill you quicker," they threatened, removing the commbadge from her tunic before tossing it to one side. "Now were to start ... ah yes perhaps I'll make those markings of yours bleed" they said with venom in their voice as the knife edged closer. [ PO1 Kaya Som | Deck 7, shuttlebay ]Kaya was crying now and the attacker's words came through like watery echoes, muffled in her panic. Her legs now pinned Kaya began grabbing for whatever she could reach. She threw the tricorder at the attacker, she grabbed at their sleeve, she pulled on the support for the pilot's chair - anything, anything. "Computer! Intruder alert!" she managed in a cracked shout, hoping the computer would register the command. Somehow, in the frenzied, one-sided melee, something registered. Markings. It was that creepy, gholbin'tema Talorian from the reception who'd commented about her spots! She cried out in anger and fear, lashing out and cutting her hand on the knife. Thea Baker

[Ens. Phoebe Volante - VIP Quarters, Deck 6] Phoebe's smile widened when the Princess mentioned the promise she had made the night before, "Oh yes, the pretty dresses. I'd almost forgotten about that. And I must say this Jumjum flavour is delicious, I would love to get some for myself at some point." She took a bite of a bread roll as she thought about Elana's dislikes before swallowing and speaking, "Have you ever considered working in security? It's not as glamoorous as royalty, but it has it's perks." She let out a small chuckle and took another sip of Jumjum. The ensign leaned forward to grab some more bread and paused as she thought of something causing a smirk to spread across her lips, "Tell me Princess, have you got a special someone back on Talor? Or has your duties kept you too busy for such things?" Thea Baker (princess)
