[ Thea - Ten Forward - USS Mac, Enroute to Argus Major] After spending the majority of the day, escorting their Diplomatic guests around the ship for the obligatory tour, followed by the official briefing. Thea had just enough time to shower and change into a fresh dress uniform before making her way to Ten Forward for the welcome dinner and reception. When the CMO and Acting FO first learned that the Mac would be undertaking a diplomatic mission, naturally there was some excitement at being involved in such an historical and important moment. However that feeling was somewhat marred when Command revealed that they would be escorting a Talorian delegation from Talor Prime to the meeting on Argus Major to resume talks regarding their entry into the Federation. Considering their history with the Talorians and witnessing not only the slaughter of the Jupiter Star but also the preventable death of the Princess. Thea thought it was some kind of punishment until Admiral Rafferty revealed that they had been asked for personally by the Talor Government. If that wasn't enough of a revelation, which had subsequently involved informing the crew to keep tensions and personal feelings to a minimum. Then came the proverbial bombshell that the delegation would include one Princess Elana, the recently discovered half sister of the late Princess Orya. So after many promises and planning every detail, they arrived at Talor Prime and Thea was amongst the small party waiting to greet the delegation. Which was interesting, especially when Elana arrived and Thea almost did a double take at how much she looked like her late Sister. However she quickly recovered and now she was here, ready to mingle and do her duty to ensure that everything went smoothly. When the doors to the lounge opened, Thea smiled as she entered, the staff having outdone themselves to transform it into an elegant reception area. There was several floral and plant displays, large buffet tables all showcasing a select number of Federation worlds, as well as the Talorian culture. A blended and beautiful masterpiece that also included the ships orchestra currently playing a piece by Mozart, at a respectable volume so you could still talk without having to shout. Now all she had to do was wait for people to arrive, including her beloved Isaiah, who had re-joined the crew for this mission, memories of their reunion played in her mind, keeping her suitably but not completely distracted as she stood by an ornate looking vase containing several of her favourite flowers, a few feet away from the main doors.
************************ [ Princess Elana - VIP Quarters, Deck 10] Discarding yet another outfit, Elana took a moment to just breath and wonder if this was all worth the effort that had been put in, to ensure that the old ways continued. Of course it was likely paranoia and slight doubt, something that hadn't bothered the Princess until she arrived and saw how Starfleet had reacted to her presence. If it wasn't bad enough that this responsibility had been put on her, it was nothing compared to the constant looks and whispers thanks to her outward appearance and resemblance to Orya. Even her name was shrouded by secrecy and only mentioned away from prying eyes, mainly out of fear and that they would suffer the same fate as Orya. However she hoped that they could be free once more and even though L'Sho was suspicious, he couldn't be seen to say that publicly not now, especially with the talks on Argus Major. Although it was fun to see him squirm and act so politely towards her, but she just had to get through this dinner and reception, then she could relax and plan with guidance until she was needed. So with that in mind, Elana chose an elegant blue green gown, the bodice covered in sparkling Talorian crystals, showing just a hint of cleavage. Then she fixed the matching tiara into place, before walking out of her room to partake in a ceremonial glass of Ramba wine with her advisors and bodyguard. " To victory in the name of Orya" she stated, raising her glass in the process, before downing it in one as it was decreed.

[USS Mac - Deck 8, Crew Quarters] Crewman Velal stood in her temporarily assigned quarters, fixing her hair once more in the mirror. She had chosen to go with a slightly more formal style given the special occasion and requirement of dress uniforms. While the majority of her hair was tucked neatly into its usual bun, it was a bit higher on the back of her head, with a single strand at the front allowed to fall free and frame her face. She couldn't decide if she liked it or not. With a frustrated sigh, she turned away from the mirror, deciding it didn't really matter because she didn't have time to change it. At least she didn't have to clean cat hair off her clothes. Maybe that was why she felt like she was missing something. This being a short-term assignment, Jovireh had chosen to leave Kiz back on the station in the care of a coworker. Now that the panic had gripped her chest, she was deeply regretting that decision. Oh well, there was nothing she could do about that now, either. Taking a deep breath and releasing it slowly, she cast one last glance in the mirror before forcing herself out the door. [Ten Forward] As the doors to the lounge slid open with a hiss, the sight that welcomed her almost made her feel like she was stepping into her grandparents' home on Betazed. Almost. Thankfully the decorations weren't quite that extravagant, or she would have had an even more difficult time accepting that she was supposed to be there. Not for the first time, she silently questioned the reason for her being assigned to this mission. Perhaps it was her studies in cultural anthropology that were deemed beneficial. Or maybe her name had simply been selected by an automated, randomized computer generator. Jovireh surveyed the decorations she passed as she made her way to the far side of the room. Hopefully she'd be able to stay out of the way so she could keep a discreet eye on everyone. Apparently this was not the crew's first experience with the Talorians, and from what she heard things didn't go so well last time. Starfleet personnel were under orders to let bygones be bygones, but one did not have to be an empath to pick up on the tension in the air. Perhaps she'd been chosen due to the fact that she had not been present during that situation. A wry grin formed on her features as she stood next to one of the plants in the back corner. While she knew she would never get the answers, the train of thought provided a simple distraction from her growing nerves. Hopefully this mission would be over soon.

[Lt. Isaiah Quinn - Ten Forward, USS Mac ] This was certainly Federation Diplomacy at its finest, of course it was on a time table that even Lt. Quinn hadn't expected. It wouldn't have been the first time that the Federation found away to move past aggressions in the name of peace. It was what they were known for. It had happened with the Klingons... the Romulans... there were even constant talks going on with members of the Dominion. And perhaps that was simply the way the Federation. They made a show of making adversaries into allies. The only problem was, not everyone's wounds heeled at the signing of treaty or membership charter. This evening, they were supposed to be playing hosts to a Talorian delegation. Isaiah supposed it was poetic that the Mac had been selected to ferry the delegation to Argus Major. It certainly wasn't a coincidence. Likely, it was a political gesture, showing that the Federation bore no grudge and was ready to move on. The crew had certainly been reminded of what their duties were. And while Isaiah wasn't of the mind of condemning an entire world for the actions of a few, even he felt it was a tad soon. Perhaps the progress that had been made should have been encouraging. Though, he still thought about the article that Charlie Fox had published left a rather distinct image of the Talorians in the minds of many. And given what he'd seen firsthand, it wasn't an image that would fade so quickly. Still, these were thoughts he had to set aside, because it actually was time to meet and mingle with the Talorian delegation. It seemed no experiment warranted the attention of the Science Chief more than his attendance at this gathering was needed. Not to mention that Thea had to be in attendance as acting First Officer, and it was a responsibility she shouldn't bear on her own. After switching into his dress uniform, he proceeded to Ten Forward. As the doors parted, it seemed that those assigned with setting up the spread had gone above and beyond. His eyes fell upon Thea and he began to move towards her, a smile etched on his face. "Well, consider me stunned. Even in a dress uniform, you look beautiful," Isaiah remarked. He took a deep breath as he stood alongside her. It was always a question of how much affection to show, especially at an event such as this. "So, are you ready for this?"He imagined that most of the heavy lifting would likely be done by Commodore Perry for the evening, but the man did like to delegate, so Isaiah was far from certain how things would play out. Regardless, he planned to be there to support Thea as much as he could. Besides, it was a party. People had been briefed on the Talorian customs and encouraged to have a good time. And who would ever want to ruin a party?

[ Lt (JG) Joshua Niles - Diplomatic Reception - USS Mac ]
If he'd been told coming out of the Academy he as a young and ambitious tactical officer would enjoy serving under the likes of Commander Eastman and Doctor Baker, a certain Joshua Niles would've laughed in their faces. Certainly, the command arrangements between the Front Ear and the Mac were rather unconventional, and in a way it was a good thing he'd gone there right after being commissioned, via a three month voyage, for he'd gotten there when he was still new enough that mental flexibility was not going to be too much of an obstacle for him.
And heading out on a diplomatic mission? That was par for the course. He'd not had to do much of that since he had dealt with Princess Victoria and Jeren and his delegation... and he certainly hoped this would go better than the last time. Trying to talk down a religious fundamentalist had been the kind of exercise he'd most definitely not been prepared for, and he hadn't particularly enjoyed having had to shoot him either; he could have sympathized with his cause, but when that same cause turned into a real threat against the people of the station, well, that had thoroughly changed the equation all right.
But when the word came down they were escorting a Talorian delegation, the young tactical officer had been forced to bite down on the inside of his cheek to prevent a most unprofessional outburst with such force that he had tasted blood afterwards. Was this Admiral Rafferty's idea of a joke? To send a ship and crew that had been accused of murdering Talorian royalty to escort them for some peace talks? The notion that they'd been specifically requested for the task, too, was something that simply did not compute well for him and he pretty much expected that they would be dropping out of warp in the teeth of an ambush designed to exact retaliation, or capture them for prosecution... or even sentencing.
However, neither had come to pass, and Niles had been thankfully occupied with duties that had him desk-bound and somewhere out of sight when the delegation had been embarked and were given the grand tour, and he'd volunteered to take over the watch on the Bridge over the course of the reception as to remain as far away from their guests as possible. The memories of the Jupiter Star had come back to him with a vengeance, and he'd hoped he could be kept away from them... but such had not been his luck and he had been specifically ordered to attend the reception... and cautioned to remain professional and not pick a fight.
So, with his beard freshly trimmed and his his neck closely shaven, he put himself in his dress uniform and took one last look at himself in the mirror. Oh, he certainly did look the part of a Starfleet officer, but within him that rage still simmered... At least the ones who had attacked the Jupiter Star were no longer a problem, but he hardly considered them his favourite people in the universe... "Come on, Josh, no nice way to do this..." he said to his own reflection before taking a deep breath, and making his way to this particular assignment.
Arriving at the lounge, he did not come in through the main doors, instead selecting a secondary entrance, and starring at the bland door panel first, he had to steady himself with a few deep breaths, before stepping in. This was just another assignment...
Softies to everyone!

[Primary L'Sho - Ten Forward, USS Mac]Primary L'Sho stood in the middle of a large room, in the midst of something he could only describe as immoderate. The space itself was wasteful. It was large, open, lacking in usable cover and most certainly a weakness in the design of the great ship. Everywhere he looked he was reminded of the Federation's riches and their obvious disregard for resources. Laid out on tables were various morsels that he had no hope of identifying, even after the extensive study he'd made of the primary species that comprised the Fleet. In his hand was a liquid that matched the colour of his people's ordure, though smelled slightly more inviting. The people themselves were tidy and well-presented in either matching uniforms or garments that glittered in the light. L'Sho wondered what this practice denoted. A display of wealth? A show of fertility? Surely nudity would serve that particular show better. The Supreme Commander of the Talorian Armada himself was dressed in pristine white. His uniform was striking against his skin and his fitted shirt was heavy with his many awards and adornments, all won in service to his system. Perhaps the most obvious difference between him and his Federation hosts, however, was his lack of footwear. Tapered pants ended just below his ankle, exposing his bare feet. Which, incidentally, were very cold. With all of their opulence and desire to please, it seemed it had not occured to Starfleet that many species found the practice of covering the feet to be unnecessary. In fact, it was only recently, the last one hundred years or so, that his people had begun to wear clothing of any kind. Even in modern times it was mostly the older generations, having completed their v'tra, who covered themselves up as completely as L'Sho did. The younger generations, as reactive and indulgent as they were, often preferred total freedom while in the company of their own. The Primary had, however, noticed a little status snobbery permeate the lower ranks. Some were falling victim to these useless displays of shine and perceived wealth, much like other species in the quadrant. The charlatan "princess" was one such simpleton, and L'Sho thought she would fit in with this frivolity quite well. The thought of the young royal threatened to ruin his good humour. "Primary L'Sho," came an equally grating voice, "Charlie Fox, Federation News Network."His eyes, glowing with displeasure, slid to the side as the human sidled up next to him, glass of ordure in her own hand. "Charlie Fox. My staff have become quite accustomed to the sound of your appalling voice."~~~ [Charlie Fox - Ten Forward, USS Mac]"Shame I can't return the compliment," Charlie responded smoothly with a slight incline of her head, "They don't seem to want to speak with me anymore. I do hope I haven't done anything to upset them."If L'Sho thought his rudeness would scare her off, he had another thing coming. One corner of his mouth twitched ever-so-slightly upwards at her words, and her brow arched with surprise at the reaction. Was he amused? "After your article reached us, I had our media outlets demonise you. It is said that your preference for laying with beasts has deranged your mind."Amused, indeed.

[ Thea - Ten Forward, Deck 10] From her vantage point, Thea had a great view of the entrance, allowing the Commander to observe the arrivals and politely acknowledge each and every person who entered. One such person was Crewman Velal, one of the newer recruits who immediately took up a position at the far side of the room and appreciated her reason for doing so, especially Security had to be on their top game considering who they were watching out for. Then her most favourite person in the universe was the next to arrive and Thea knew that she could deal with anything by having Isaiah by her side. That smile and the way he complimented her as he approached, never failed to elicit a smile and a nice feeling that spread through her body, instantly pushing the nerves deeper out of her mind. As much as she would of loved to have been greeted by a kiss and to have his arm around her waist, that would have to be saved for later, considering the nature of the event, but having him close was definitely a bonus. " Thank you, you always know how to make me feel better" she replied softly as he then asked if she was ready for this. Knowing she could be honest, Thea thought for a moment on how best to respond, as Lieutenant Niles appeared from the side entrance aware of his reluctance to attend, before her gaze moved to L'Sho and Charlie Fox. The Doctor could only imagine how that conversation was going as she answered Isaiah. " As ready as I'll ever be and I suppose we should go say hello to L'Sho and Charlie, but first a drink is definitely needed".There was no hesitation as she took two flutes of Champagne from a passing server and handed one to Isaiah.

[Ens. Phoebe Volante - Quarters - USS Mac] Phoebe glared at her dress uniform in the mirror, it didnt quite sit right. Something was off. Had she grown? Had she put on weight? Had the uniform shrunk somehow? She turned to see her profile and let out a sigh at how form fitting the uniform appeared to be, "Definitely need to visit the tailer when we get back to the station and get a new one." She gave one last spin in the mirror as a final check before heading out to the event, hoping everyone would be too busy eating, drinking and talking to notice her. [Ten Forward - USS Mac] The Ensign gave one final tug on her uniform before the doors opened, put on her practiced smile and walked into the extravagant display that was the gathering. As if her wardrobe malfunction wasn't bad enough, she now had to mingle and socialise. Her least adept skills and she had to use them on an ambassador and entourage, what could go wrong? Not to mention half the crew seemed to hold a deep seeded displeasure, if not hatred, for the Talorians. Yet one more thing to add to the watchlist as the security personnel. As she entered the room, she immediately spotted LT. Comm. Baker and Lt. Quinn, she politely bowed her head and beamed her smile at them as she passed by. Phoebe scanned the crowd and caught glimse of Primary L'Sho. The report she had managed to glance over when she got time said he had a tactical and strategic mind, perhaps talking to him about such things would offset her general social ineptitude. As she walked across the room to introduce her self, she saw Charlie strike up a conversation with him. Phoebe did a sudden left turn on the spot and headed for a quieter part of the room, abandoning all hope of social interaction. 'At least this way I can focus more on spotting dangers, I guess.' She attempted to console herself with the silver lining of the situatuion.

[ Lt (JG) Joshua Niles - Diplomatic Reception, Deck 10 - USS Mac ]The outer edges of the gathering were plenty for Niles for now as he was growing accustomed to the surroundings. The Talorian delegation was far larger than he would have liked, but such had not been his call, and there seemed to be some tentative contacts between the Federation personnel and their guests, but he could not help but feel a certain air of tension within the room. And much of it was concentrated within him. Looking about, he caught sight of Commander Baker and Lieutenant Quinn. He was not quite sure what to think of the pair being involved while one was the Chief Science Officer and the other was the Second Officer, but so far it seemed it hadn't affected how they did their job, so to him it was a matter of live and let live until it would prove to do so. However, he did envy the support they could derive from each other, and just how at ease they were in this environment. And while part of him wanted to resent her for ordering him to be present, he knew at least intellectually that he was the ship's tactical officer with all that it involved... Including public appearances. Though, with some luck, no one would recognize him from the communications that had flowed between Mac and the Talorian ships; he was not inclined to pick a fight and had even been cautioned against it, but the subtext he'd gotten was that he was not to get into one regardless of who would have started it... However, a quick look about got him to see Ensign Volante, one of the more recent additions to the crew, and he made his way towards her, though he did flag a steward to kindly fetch him a thoroughly synthehol Old Fashioned in the process. As he neared the clearly uncomfortable Ensign, another steward intercepted him with his drink, which he graciously accept, and with his free hand he tugged his jacket down. He was not sure himself where the issue was, but its tendency to ride up was most aggravating. "Miss Volante. I see you are enjoying yourself."

[ Commodore Calvin Perry - USS Mac - Ten Forward] Perry was running just a few minutes behind arriving at the reception. He hadn't been thrilled - no, more than that - he'd been horrified that the Mac were being forced to ferry the Talorians to this meeting with the Federation. He'd fought tooth and nail for it to not be them, but in the end, the admiral had, in so many words, told him to shut up and do the job. So the Commodore took a bracing breath as he stood outside Ten Forward for a moment before stepping close enough to trigger the doors. A glance around told Perry that the staff had done its usual amazing job setting up the lounge for the reception. Their guests, ahem, were present, as well as a number of the officers. He tugged his dress uniform tunic down and approached Thea and Isaiah. The CMO did such a phenomenal job of running things most of the time, Perry felt a bit superfluous, but this sort of diplomatic thing required all hands on deck, best foot forward and all that. Doctor, Lt. Commander, Perry greeted. How did the tour go? Are our guests causing any problems? And even more, are the crew causing any problems? I hate having so many here who were involved in the Jupiter Star disaster, he said quietly.

I hate having so many here who were involved in the Jupiter Star disaster, he said quietly. [Lt. Isaiah Quinn - Ten Forward, USS Mac ] Isaiah could only imagine the stress of the day that Thea had endured. As if tending to the crew's health wasn't enough, she often found herself labored with these duties as well. He was glad that he was able to lift her spirits with his presence alone. It was certainly a mutuality in their relationship. He then heard her comment upon greeting Primary L'Sho and Charlie Fox. His eyes turned to scan the room and fall upon what she had clearly seen. "Well, right in the deep end, huh?" he asked rhetorically. For better or worse, Charlie's voice had certainly been one of the Federation as it had deplored the actions of the Talorians, or at least of Princess Orya and her band of followers. Though, it certainly hadn't gone out of its way to absolve the rest. And to have her there face-to-face with L'Sho himself was possibly a recipe for disaster. Instinctively, Isaiah's eyes glanced around the rest of the room for potential fires that may need to be put out. He first noticed Crewman Jovireh Velal. He hadn't had the pleasure of meeting her personally, though anyone of Romulan heritage tended to be more popular than they cared to be. For the time being, she seemed to be lingering off alone. There wasn't anything wrong with that, and working Security, he could understand the desire to be undistracted. He only hoped she didn't remain too distanced. Next, his eyes fell upon Lt. Niles and Ensign Volante. Ensign Volante had certainly made an impression upon him on Kerelia. Still, Isaiah saw it as her being passionate about her job. It wasn't something he held against her. As for the company she was keeping for the evening, well, Mr. Niles had been rather vocal about how he felt about the Talorians after the Jupiter Star Massacre. Still, he was a professional and seemed to be avoiding exacerbating a potentially volatile situation. Perhaps it would be best if he managed to keep his distance for most of the evening. His eyes centered back upon Charlie and L'Sho. They both appeared to be playing nice for now, but how long would that last? Isaiah would like to think that Miss Fox was a friend. They certainly hadn't formalized any sort of friendship. However, they had experienced the witnessed the horrors of the Jupiter Star and shared a fervent dislike of Kerelia. That only added to his agreement with Theta to defuse a possibly volatile situation. Of course, that would have to wait as Commodore Perry arrived. He greeted Thea... and him as well. Isaiah didn't call much attention to the mention of rank (unless there was something else he didn't know.) Besides, he still hadn't had the chance to get to know Commodore Perry too well. It wasn't uncommon for commanders to keep to themselves. And Perry had always seemed the sort comfortable delegating responsibilities to his crew when he could. There was nothing wrong with that, merely the man's style of command. "Good evening, sir," Isaiah replied simply. He then listened as he asked basically for the status of the room and if everyone was still playing nice for the most part. "Actually sir," Isaiah paused a moment as he entertained how to address Thea in the Commodore's presence, "Doctor Baker and I were just about to extend our personal greetings to Primary L'Sho and Miss Fox." Isaiah was rather confident that Perry would understand exactly what he had meant.

[ PO1 Kaya Som & Talorian assistant Ailobin | Ten Forward ]
Kaya Som had somehow made fast friends with a Talorian counterpart and was in close conversation with him near the kitchen. He was called Ailobin and part of the Talorian delegation's support staff.
"It's fermented fruit," she laughed in a whisper.
"I'm telling you, it looks like literal piss," assistant-to-an-assistant Ailobin insisted calmly. "Fresh morning piss!"
The Mac crew were all meant to be on their best behavior. And for reasons no one but Kaya understood, she was perfectly able to do exactly that. It seemed like everyone else was fussing with their uniforms and gnawing over their own unresolved feelings about the Jupiter Star the Dies Irae. The whole reception stank of repressed emotions, strained tempers, and mismanaged vengeance. Maybe they felt guilty, or they hadn't had the closure of having control over the outcome. Maybe some people just couldn't erase those dead bodies from their minds' eye.
"Maybe it's a Federation thing," Kaya said happily snacking on something crunchy and looked out over the rest of the party. "But I don't know. Seems like bad diplomacy to compare the food to excrement."
"I can't help what it looks like..." Ailobin said skeptically even as he took a long loud sip of the champagne.
Then Kaya realized the entire Jupiter Star original boarding party was here. Quinn, Doctor Baker, Niles, even Charlie Fox. She was standing with Primary L'Sho.
Ailobin noticed where Kaya was looking. He kept his voice low. "Speaking of bad diplomacy..."
"What are you talking about?"
"I'm surprised she's allowed to be here, that reporter." Sssssssssssip.
Kaya snorted. "Yeah, right. She wrote what she saw. Probably last person your boss needs to worry about."
"That's where you're wrong," Ailobin said sweetly and moved on, leaving Kaya to her own devices.

[Sir Dugris "Doug" Zaman, MBE, PhD, JD, MBA, PE, RA - Ten Forward]Sir Doug Zaman wasn't exactly a diplomat. That wasn't the cloth from which the man was cut, with his tendency to say the wrong thing, or launch into some anecdote that someone or other would find offensive. Not to mention, he refused to wear a tuxedo, opting instead for the pastel colors of morning attire. However, as long as Starfleet kept inviting him, he kept coming. That much was basic manners. It was possible they were only inviting him as a courtesy, but that was on them, not on him. Out of the corner of his eye, the ancient man - for once not accompanied by his loud pet - noted Kaya Som. The Trill seemed to be reasonably well-attuned to the movements of the lower decks, and had just been speaking with a Talorian. "I'll bet you 50 slips that we're going to see a fight in the next 15 minutes," he said, as good a conversation starter as any.

[ PO1 Kaya Som | Ten Forward ]"Ahoy, Sir Doug," Kaya said, genuinely pleased to see the strange El-Aurian. She still wasn't sure what he did here but he brought a useful and merry pastel chaos to any affair. "That's interesting, because seventy-five is my price to deck Niles," she said with a thoughtful smile just loud enough for the two of them. She tapped her chin. "Hmm." Dugris Zaman

[ Thea- Ten Forward, Deck 10] The fizzing bubbles of the Champagne popped against her tongue as Thea took a small sip of her drink as she considered their next move towards the Primary and Charlie. It may appear foolish to some but for the Acting XO it was a case of exchanging pleasantries now and not be accused of ignoring all of the Talorian delegation. However her attention moved briefly towards Ensign Volante, looking as uncomfortable as she felt in the not very practical dress uniforms as the junior officer acknowledged her and Isaiah. If time permitted Thea intended to catch up with Phoebe, especially as she found herself a spot away from everyone. Although she wasn't alone for long as Niles approached and engaged her in conversation, before Isaiah spoke to her and her Boyfriend wasn't wrong about diving into the proverbial deep end with her suggestion of conversation partner. " Yes, might as well get it over with rather than leave it to later".Thea then steeled herself and took a deep breath as she prepared to lead the way over to L'Sho and Charlie. That's until Commodore Perry approached her and Isaiah, addressing them both apart from a slight mistake with Isaiah's rank, before asking questions about the delegation and the crew. His tone may be quiet but Thea knew that Perry hadn't been happy about their mission. Appreciating Isaiah's use of Doctor as he answered Perry and mentioned what they intended to do. " Yes we thought it best to extend our greetings now, as for the tour it went well as did the briefing" Thea replied then added. " So far there's been no problems with either the delegation or the crew, well unless you count Lieutenant Niles' slight reluctance to be at the reception, but I understand the sensitivity around our previous encounter with the Talorians".

[USS Mac, Ten Forward]
Everything seemed to be going rather well so far. There had been a few spikes in tension, but everyone remained on their best behavior. A few glances had been cast her way, primarily by the Commanding and Senior officers present, and Jovireh sighed softly to herself. Looks like she wouldn't be able to get away with standing in the corner by herself all night. Time to go mingle. If... there were anyone available to mingle with. The more sociable of the crew present had swooped on the Talorian delegation like a flock of crows to a pile of gems, and the less sociable crew members were naturally drawn to those they already knew. She hated joining conversations without an invitation. Perhaps she'd luck out and more people would arrive soon.
A server approached with a tray bearing glasses of champagne, one of which Jovireh accepted graciously. As the server walked away once more, she lifted the glass to her lips for a small sip, and immediately regretted it. The severe taste assaulted her tongue, and she swiftly turned her head to the side in attempts to hide the grimace. She'd forgotten just how much she hated champagne. It was one human custom that she would never be able to understand - the insistence on champagne always being the drink of choice for any sort of celebration. There were plenty of other wines that were equally elegant and far more palatable, even a few "sparkling" varieties if it was the carbonation they were drawn to. She would have to see if there were any other options available after she finished this glass. If she were able to finish this glass.
Soft tags everyone
