[Lt. Isaiah Quinn - Ten Forward, USS Mac ] In all honesty, it seemed as if they were in a furnace on the verge of exploding rather than a social gathering serving as a prelude to the Talorians' entrance into the Federation. Isaiah's eyes skimmed the room, and all he could see was the potential for it all to go straight to hell at every turn. First, it was the sight of Charlie Fox finding herself in the company of Princess Elana, and shortly joined by Lt. Niles. It was like the pair of them had tractor beams for danger attached to them. Luckily, they excused themselves which brought some relief. Though, Isaiah wasn't certain if leaving the Princess in Ensign Volante's company was a better alternative. Granted, she hadn't been aboard at the time, but Volante seemed to speak her mind rather openly from what Quinn had observed on their last mission. Not always the best at... filtering. Perhaps Crewman T'Karra would help temper that situation. Quinn's full attention was once again on Primary L'Sho. He didn't think leaving the Primary and the Commodore alone was any better of an idea. Small talk seemed to be petering out, and Quinn thought it best to stir the pot once more. Primary L'Sho, if I may, I'd like to express my excitement in seeing your people join the Federation. I'm curious if there are any particular member worlds you're looking forward to visiting at some point in the future. I know that several members of our crew are interested in just seeing your world. I, personally, wouldn't mind visiting the mountain range in the Eastern hemisphere of your world. The holo-images alone are quite captivating."
Tag: Thea Baker , Admin (Perry), Charlie Fox (L'Sho) [ Thea - Ten Forward, Deck 10] As both Charlie and Primary L'Sho returned her greeting and the Talorian Leader, thanked her for her efforts in welcoming them. Thea smiled in response, happy that things seemed to have been diffused by their arrival. That was until the Primary answered the Commodore and it was clear that L'Sho was no fan of the Princess or her entourage. Then again it wasn't surprising given what they had witnessed with how they had handled Orya. However as long as she didn't have to pick sides and keep the peace between everyone, then hopefully the journey wouldn't be too eventful. The goal to reach Argus Major without incident was something she wanted to achieve as Charlie then left the group and was immediately cornered by the Princess. Naturally she wondered how that encounter would go, especially when they moved towards Niles and Volante, closely followed by T'Karra. This was where she got a little worried, given Niles's less than enthusiastic response to being ordered to attend. Luckily it appeared as though Charlie thought the same, when the Princess became enamoured by the Security officer and promptly led him away from a potential blow up. Now Thea just wanted everyone to get through the reception, quietly observing the rest of the room and those who were speaking to members of the delegation, as the Commodore responded to L'Sho and Isaiah engaged in the Primary in conversation. Realising what her Boyfriend was doing, Thea once again appreciated having him by her side as it was now a case of ensuring that no one got offended as she added to what was said. " I too found the holo images stunning and your home world is beautiful Primary and whilst I'm here, you'll be happy to know that we have followed the recipes that were sent to us, in order to provide Talorian cuisine and refreshments".

As far as the commodore knew, there hadn't been any complaints from any of the Talorians. Deciding to let the comment pass, he said, All right, then. Please be sure to let us know if you or your people need anything. The gathering across the room caught his attention, and Perry watched with concern as the princess approached Lt. Niles. Thankfully, Charlie Fox seemed to be taking care of him, as in keeping him away from a potentially volatile situation, and he relaxed slightly as the princess began speaking with the other security officer while Ms. Fox led Niles away. "Is that human lieutenant not one of the crew present on the USS Mac during our first fateful meeting, Perry?" He asked the Commodore. Unlike the Princess, Primary L'Sho did his homework. [Charlie Fox - Ten Forward]Without hesitating, Charlie just took the offered glass. "The least they could do is give us real booze. This is cruel and unusual." Still, she brought it to her lips and took a taste, believing that at least the act and sensation might provide a little comfort. "I'm fine," she said then, an automatic response as always, and handed the man back his bourbon. "I'm under orders to keep things light. Nothing inflammatory, write about everyone playing nicey-nice with each other and the fabulous futures we all have together." She shrugged one shoulder and arched a brow as she watched him, waiting for reactions. "I had a go at L'Sho, he's a tough nut to crack."He'd engaged in some strange, dangerous banter with her, but there was nothing she could use and besides if there had been, she'd have had to stow it for another day when these talks were well over. If she didn't, she'd be looking for a new job. A flash of mischief crossed her face as an idea suddenly occurred to her. "Want to get out of here?" [ Lt (JG) Joshua Niles - Diplomatic Reception, Deck 10 - USS Mac]
Josh was not entirely sure whether or not the drink he was offering would be accepted, but as it turned out, it was. However, as she tasted it, he had to address her complaint that it was indeed synthehol. "Well, there is the real stuff available, but I am technically on duty... and as much as coming here might've been more bearable a few drinks in, I thought it better to keep my head and ask for synthehol instead."When the drink was handed back to him, he quickly imitated her and pulled from it, letting some of the liquid fire, indescribably less warm and less smooth than that of a genuine bourbon, worm its way to his stomach. As he did so, he considered the directions she too, was operating under. So, he'd not been the only one who'd been instructed to attend, and cautioned to play nice. Well, Doctor Baker and Mister Quinn seemed to have no problems keeping themselves suitably diplomatic; but then again, for what he'd observed of them, their nature was far... gentler than his in a great many ways and they did not seem to have the... depth of passion he had where it came to dealing with those who'd proven their enmity; As for Commodore Perry, well, he was a flag officer so he could pretty much do whatever he wanted, then pass the buck to someone else to make sure everything would be copacetic at the end of the day. "And that sounds a lot like my own orders... don't pick a fight, play nice, and conveniently try and forget that one of our guests looks just like the one who murdered our people is here, right alongside with the guy who never let us pick up any survivors then claimed we murdered them all..." After speaking, if a little bitterly, he downed what was left of the thoroughly synthetic drink, just in time to catch the look of mischief in her eyes, and the offer to get out of there. Strictly speaking, he'd not been told how long he had to remain, just that he had to be there. And, given the levels of tension in the room, and that he was to try and avoid a diplomatic incident at all costs, the notion of getting out certainly had its merits. Though, departing alone would hardly seem politic, or even polite. But in company with the journalist? That certainly could work! "Oh, most definitely. Would you care to lead the way?" And, divesting himself from his drink with his artificial left arm, he offered her his right in a thoroughly gentlemanly fashion, though in his eyes, there was a glint. Not one of cold, tightly-leashed aggression, but on that was actually playful.

You'll find that Starfleet officers in general are quite disciplined. If there are any issues, they will be handled. [Lt. Isaiah Quinn - Ten Forward, USS Mac ] Isaiah was grateful for Thea's chiming in about the holo-images of the Talorian homeworld. His praise of the place was genuine, and the science officer believed turning the conversation to L'Sho's home planet would likely put the man in a better mood. Though, he still found a way to be critical of practially everything. While he appeared to appreciate both Thea and Isaiah's appreciation for his planet, he wasn't willing to concede that their sentiments were very widespread. Isaiah nodded. "I wouldn't presume that any sentiment is unanimous among a people, Primary," Isaiah stated. "Though, I do believe the steps that both your people and my own are taking together is something we will all benefit from."It was to be expected that there would be people that were far from pleased about this union. Isaiah certainly hadn't expected it to happen as quickly as it had. How or why it had was a mystery that many didn't seem inclined to explore, possibly for fear that it'd crumble under inspection. Lt. Quinn was, however, impressed with Primary L'Sho's attention to detail. He seemed to pick out Lt. Niles as having been one of the officers present during the Jupiter Star incident. It wasn't a surprise that he clearly recognized Commodore Perry, but seemed to have taken the time to recognize both Thea and himself as well. Isaiah nodded, knowing that there was no reason to lie. Perry also felt that way, but didn't take the critique from the Primary so well. Isaiah glanced slightly at Thea, feeling the tension growing, and wondering if Commodore Perry needed a little distance from L'Sho as well. Of course, Isaiah didn't entirely disagree with L'Sho. Having the people that had been at the initial confrontation could likely stir more trouble and jeopardize the mission entirely. "I can see how it may be ill-advised primary, but I think it also shows how dedicated we are to this union," Isaiah offered, hoping a more tempered response than the Commodores would help settle the waters. "It's an opportunity for us, potentially the ones most likely to be skeptical of this union, to demonstrate just how committed we are to seeing this come to pass."Where was a diplomat when you needed one? Things could certainly be going better, and that was without knowing how things stood with the Princess... whom was a ringer for her dead sister. One had to assume that she was just as eager to see these talks through. Hopefully, chatting up an ensign wouldn't be the extent of those willing to reach out to socialize with her. That could possibly sour the talks as well.

[ Princess Elana - Ten Forward, Deck 10] Not only was this the first time that Elana had left Talor Prime, but also the first time that she had come into contact with other races. So when Phoebe then explained more about Humans and their quirks, the Princess found it just as fascinating as she had about the lack of public nudity. They were definitely an interesting species and was hopeful that she could say the same about the others that were represented on the Mac. T'Karra was the first to come to mind as Phoebe graciously accepted the gift that Elana wanted to give her before she left. " I do find this all rather fascinating and it's my pleasure to give you such a gift".As talk shifted to the drink request that Elana had made, again she listened as Phoebe told her about this Champagne and how she actually preferred something called Cocktails. Elana was certainly curious as she was handed a glass of an unpleasant looking liquid, along with T'Karra. Not wanting to be rude, Elana held the glass up to see if the liquid within got any better, before Phoebe went on to talk about the crew and their last encounter with L'Sho and her sister. Whilst Elana appreciated her efforts, it wasn't surprising to hear how the Primary had been less than hospitable towards the Bataq. Even Elana didn't know all of the specifics and realised that it was something that she now shared with her new drinking companions, considering that they weren't around either. She may have that in common but it also made her determined to show the crew that she wasn't the same as Orya despite her similarity. " You don't need to be the one to ask forgiveness Phoebe, both parties need to earn each others trust and begin to move forward, rather than stay in the past. I myself don't know everything but I am hopeful that these talks will bring peace and resolution" she replied, before she took a sip of the Champagne and immediately lowered her glass, the liquid leaving an unpleasant taste in her mouth. " That is most foul, perhaps I should try these Cock..tails that you spoke about".************************* [ Thea - Ten Forward, Deck 10] Just when she thought that changing the subject would be the right thing to do, it appeared that L'Sho had other things on his mind. Unsure how to proceed at the moment, as the Primary spoke some truths about Isaiah's sentiments not being shared with others, how he was more focused on ensuring his people's success at the moment and finally how even that hope wasn't shared by all. Of course that was a recipe to make things even more uncomfortable, until there was a small glimmer of promise with L'Sho appreciating their comments. Maybe this wouldn't be so bad after all if they could keep him talking about other topics and make the most of the situation for it was. That was until he spotted Lieutenant Niles and suggested that him being present along with Thea and Isaiah was ill advised due to their previous encounter. At first Thea was unsure how to answer that particular awkward question, before Perry spoke and assured him that it wasn't and how any issues would be handled. As Isaiah then backed Perry up by answering both of the Primary's concerns, Thea became aware of Niles preparing to leave with Charlie. Normally she would of insisted that he stay but since this wasn't exactly normal circumstances and given the animosity, she had no issue with him doing so. Once Isaiah finished speaking, it was Thea's turn to show the same courtesy and how personal opinions shouldn't be an issue. " I agree with the Commodore and Lieutenant Quinn, what happened previously shouldn't be a reflection on the possibility of peace and the opportunities to learn from each other, this is our chance to change any perceptions and show what really matters to us all".

She let out a small chuckle at Elana's reaction, "I did warn you, but some traditions are hard to get rid of." She tugged on her dress uniform again, "Much to the annoyance of many. But at least now you can say you have tried it, and never have to drink it again."The ensign caught one of the passing wait-staff, "The Princess wishses to try share some cocktails. Shall we start with some Somarian Sunsets?" She placed her champagne back on the serving tray and smiled back at the Princess, "One of my favourites. Very fruity, sweet and has a nice aftertaste too. Though may I suggest that at a later date you let me try some of the drinks you enjoy? It seems only fair after all, Princess. We can consider it a cultural exchange." A wicked grin crossed the womans face, "We can make a night of it." Thea Baker (Princess)

As they carried on in a rush to reassure him, L'Sho silently reflected on his position. He had expected a welcome from the Starfleet crew, but their overtures were borderline submissive. It bode well for him. "I must say I am pleased that your people are no longer slinging accusations of murder at us. That was unpleasant, and not at all conducive to effective communication. I am expecting a formal apology for your behaviour at the outset of these talks, and then we can concentrate on the important matters to us all, and proceed with peace."His own lips twitched very slightly upward, and he finally took a drink of the piss in his glass.

I am hoping for a more moderate compromise between both, but I am unsure that we are ready to achieve this." Kaelpra's voice was low, and his levels of anxiety amped up a couple of notches. He had not intended to cause any concern, but Jovireh was proving as perceptive as he had expected, and was asking questions he felt obligated to answer. "You are obviously skilled, you are intelligent, and you seem naturally inclined toward cultural exchange. I would ask that you just watch. Draw upon your Security training. If you hear of anything that might jeopardise these talks, I would ask that you let me know. Apart from that, I believe I would value your opinion and analysis at the end of each session."He smiled a little distractedly, but he was conscious of the possibility of too much truth scaring away the potential ace he could secure in his sleeve.

[Charlie Fox - Ten Forward -> Corridor, Deck 10]Normally Charlie might have scoffed at the officer's reluctance to imbibe and his sense of duty, but in this case, she thought it was smart. Their situation was unique and it seemed everyone had a bit of accepting and adapting to do. And as Josh continued to point out the similarity in their instruction, she could tell that not even the aftertaste of the synthetic bourbon would neutralise the bitter taste being left in his mouth. So when he offered his arm to her and seemed willing to meet her offer of mischief with one of his own, she grinned and slid her hand into the crook of his elbow. "I would care to lead the way, thank you, Lieutenant," she declared in a lofty, loud tone, and then they set off to leave the room with the oppressive atmosphere behind them. As they passed behind Primary L'Sho, Charlie took the opportunity to wink conspiratorially at both Quinn and Baker, who were facing her way. She had no idea how her leaving the event with Niles would be perceived, but she thought that offering a little cheek as she was escorted out might help to lessen any concern. She nodded and smiled to a few familiar faces on their way out, but once they stepped into the corridor, she loosed the chuckle of amusement she'd been holding back. "What a dog and pony show!" She announced, before giving Josh's arm a quick squeeze and releasing it. She sighed, though with less frustration than before, and stepped away. "If you're up for it, there's something I want to show you." She gestured ahead of them, toward the turbolift close by at the end of the passageway and continued, "In my guest quarters. Where, incidentally, there's also real booze."

[USS Mac - Ten Forward] Jovireh took another small sip of her wine as she listened to his explanation for wanting her there. If she was understanding him correctly, she would essentially be the Diplomatic Advisor's diplomatic advisor. Oh sure, should be easy. What could possibly go wrong? Setting her now empty glass on the table beside her, she worked the situation over in her mind. Of course there was always the possibility that there was more going on than he was telling her; he may even be attempting to play on her inexperience to use her for his own agenda. After all, they hadn't even known each other a few hours yet, and she wasn't able to read him as well as she could most Federation species. The Crewman would have to be careful, lest there be a lot more than just these talks at stake. She had, however, noticed his nervousness increasing the more he spoke, and decided it was best not to draw attention. Gesturing to a nearby server for another two glasses of wine, Jovireh turned back to Kaelpra with her friendly smile, but kept her voice low as she answered him. "I will need to learn your language. Not all of it, of course. Just important words and phrases that may not translate." Learning an entire language in a matter of days was too much to ask of anyone. She was good, but not that good. "It would also be beneficial if I could spend time with the Talorian delegates in a more casual setting. I can make do if they aren't willing, but it would certainly help in more ways than one." Her main hope was that if she spent time around them when they were less concerned about being polite and diplomatic, she might be able to read them a little easier. Even if Kaelpra was the only one willing to see her outside of Ten Forward, it would be better than what she could do now.

[Charlie Fox - Ten Forward -> Corridor, Deck 10]Normally Charlie might have scoffed at the officer's reluctance to imbibe and his sense of duty, but in this case, she thought it was smart. Where, incidentally, there's also real booze." [ Lt (JG) Joshua Niles - Diplomatic Reception > Corridor, Deck 10 - USS Mac] ...
Niles remained silent for what little time they had spent at the reception. For one thing, he hardly wanted to be overheard saying something that might compromise these talks, no matter just how much he wanted to express his displeasure at the situation. He had said it before, that the uniform did mean that much of his personal feelings would be overruled... but it was far easier said than done in some situation... such as this one. However, once they left the room and the door hissed shut behind them, the cast of Josh's shoulders changed dramatically as the tension started to leave his body, and his spine seemed to turn from a length of rebar back to its proper state of flesh and blood. At the mention of the nature of the reception, he nodded his assent. "If I never have to attend one of these again, It'll be twenty years too soon," he replied while both his now free hands went up to his collar and released the top two hooks as to make the closely tailored dress tunic gape at the top. Were dress whites always this tight around the neck, or did he just feel an overwhelming need to breathe more freely just now? As she mentioned wanting to show him something, assuming he may be up to it, he found himself wondering precisely what Charlie had in mind. That woman was, well, very much his opposite in a lot of ways. Of course he had some notions, but the odds were good he might be well off the mark... which hardly meant he wasn't feeling up to what challenges she may pose for him. "After this, I'm certainly up for just about anything. Provided you are willing to share some of your booze first? Synthehol has its place, but after this, I need a real drink."So, he hardly needed to be asked twice to follow her towards the turbolift, and as far as possible from that infernal reception.

{Quotes} [Sir Dugris "Doug" Zaman, MBE, PhD, JD, MBA, PE, RA - Ten Forward]Sir Doug was a little surprised to be joined by the Talorian. He knew that just about everyone was out for information, but it was still now his first interaction with one. The question asked was less surprising. "That's right. Sir Doug Zaman, at your service," he introduced himself, after Kaya had introduced him. Naturally, Sir Doug thought, perhaps he could figure out now what the rumblings were on the lower decks of the other side. He was curious. "What do you make of all these negotiations?" he asked. [ Relan - Team Kaya, Deck 10] At first Relan hoped that his directness hadn't caused any offence, however that particular concern quickly evaporated as Kaya introduced herself and the El Aurian who she had been talking to. The careful tuck of hair behind her ear, hadn't gone unnoticed either but for Relan her markings were unlike anything he had seen until now. That didn't stop him from being polite though as she winked in regards to the outfit Sir Doug was wearing and the Talorian smiled as he figured out what she had meant. "It is a great honour to meet you both" Relan replied, after Sir Doug had confirmed who he was. Although when asked what he made of the negotiations, Relan hesitated for a moment, before giving his response. "It's not my place to discuss such matters as I am just a lowly assistant, here to ensure that the Primary has everything he needs, but I am thankful for the opportunity to meet and talk with others that don't come from Talor Prime".
[ PO1 Kaya Som | Ten Forward ]"A room full of lowly assistants and no one's talking a nanobyte of shit," Kaya said. "I just fix the ship's computers and he's basically a passenger." She indicated Sir Doug. "Come on, we won't tell. Your boss looks smug enough, like he's won the zho'tem tara." [fn]Trill saying about a competition in an old folktale.[/fn] It wasn't exactly the graceful bearing of a petitioner to join the Federation, but what did Kaya know. Thea Baker (Relan), Dugris Zaman

[ Thea - Ten Forward, Deck 10] [...] " I too found the holo images stunning and your home world is beautiful Primary and whilst I'm here, you'll be happy to know that we have followed the recipes that were sent to us, in order to provide Talorian cuisine and refreshments".[Primary L'Sho - Ten Forward, USS Mac]"I do not believe that the rest of your people share your sentiments, Lt. Quinn," L'Sho told the man when he declared his happiness at the prospect of the Talorians joining the Federation. He looked at him coolly, but his eyes brightened a little as he continued, "I cannot say any of your worlds have captured my attention. For the moment, my attention remains firmly on ensuring the success of my people. However," he gestured with an arm toward his advisor, Kaelpra, glass of untouched ordure still in hand, "That is not a sentiment shared by all."He did appreciate their words about Talor Prime, and the beauty of the East Mountains. "A place for quiet reflection," he said of it, "Our priests often spend several seasons in silence there before taking their vows." L'Sho himself had grown up close to one such retreat. His tired muscles and cold feet cried out for the naturally occurring hot springs. Despite the conversational turn, he was still closely watching the Princess and the crowd gathering around her. He was displeased that she hadn't approached him first, and certain that he would not be the one to make the first move. "Is that human lieutenant not one of the crew present on the USS Mac during our first fateful meeting, Perry?" He asked the Commodore. Unlike the Princess, Primary L'Sho did his homework. He narrowed his eyes at the man in charge, and then looked at both Quinn and Baker. "And you both, you were also present. This seems... ill-advised."Thea Baker [Commodore Calvin Perry - Ten Forward] [...] His lips twitched to the side wryly. That may be true, but we are the ones who are here.
Tag: Thea Baker , Admin (Perry), Charlie Fox (L'Sho) [ Princess Elana - Ten Forward, Deck 10] Not only was this the first time that Elana had left Talor Prime, but also the first time that she had come into contact with other races.

The commodore had heard rumors that the pair was a couple, and he wondered if that contributed to their seamless working together. They were certainly saving his ass; Perry could not muster up that much enthusiasm for the Talorians. He listened quietly with an occasional nod in appropriate spots as the Primary spoke. Quinn's assurance that they were... what was that overly saccharine human sentiment? "All in this together". His response was adequate for both, but it did convey his doubt.
Tags: Admin , Isaiah Quinn and Thea Baker [ Commodore Calvin Perry - Ten Forward] Perry thought that Baker and Quinn were going quite a bit overboard in their solicitation to the Primary, but he wouldn't cause Starfleet problems by scoffing about it aloud. He'd fight tooth and nail against an order he disagreed with, but once past a certain point, it was counterproductive to continue rocking the boat. So he'd go along until things fell apart. And then he was having to repeat, discipline, discipline, discipline, to himself as the Primary informed them that he expected an apology before the negotiations could proceed. The commodore clenched his teeth and rocked his jaw behind closed lips as he considered and discarded any number of responses that would have caused an interstellar incident. Finally he settled on a change of subject. We should avail ourselves of this feast. Is there anything you'd like to try, Primary? There, that was as diplomatic as he could manage through repressed anger.

As an El-Aurian, he was very much used to people who wanted to speak and be listened to, but this was a diplomatic session. As for him being a passenger, he was. Starfleet drew on his talents now and then, and tolerated his presence the remaining 95% of the time. Perhaps this was the 5%. "Does the Primary attend to negotiations like this often?" he asked, hoping maybe to get something with this angle of questioning. Time would tell if Relan's self-effacement was an act of evasion, a matter of politeness, or a function of a rigidly classist society or workplace. There was far too much not known about the Talorians.

[ Relan-Ten Forward] The Secondary Assistant to the Primary was quickly beginning to realise that talking to Kaya and Sir Doug may of been a bad idea, especially when Kaya explained her own role, before trying to tempt him into saying what he really thought about the situation. When nervous, a Talorian's ear frills tended to flatten, poised to unleash the black liquid inside and immediately became scared due to the binds that someone of his status, was held to for fear of retribution and death. Even as Sir Doug asked another question, Relan looked at both of them, struggling against the invisible shackles, his eyes darting around the room, before falling on the Primary who appeared to be getting agitated. Finally after a few agonising moments, Relan managed to speak. " Please forgive me, but I cannot answer your questions, I am bound by the terms of my status".It wasn't worth the punishment that would come his way, if he was overheard discussing his own opinions about this supposedly historic moment. No he had his own part to play and he wasn't about to fail now or be seen to be as weak as Kaelpra or the Princess, talking to the Bataq as though everything was right with all of this. No he had already showed to much interest and that could be his undoing, bowing slightly as he made a decision to leave, before his tongue became loose. " Perhaps we can talk another time but I must leave and prepare for the Primary's return".Of course he didn't know how much longer L'Sho intended to humour the Bataq, especially the one named Perry but Relan wasn't going to hang around to find out and promptly bowed once more, before making a hasty retreat.

Her main hope was that if she spent time around them when they were less concerned about being polite and diplomatic, she might be able to read them a little easier. Even if Kaelpra was the only one willing to see her outside of Ten Forward, it would be better than what she could do now. [Kaelpra - Ten Forward, USS Mac]He looked at Jovireh with some surprise when she mentioned their language, but as she continued to speak, he began to appreciate his choice in confidante more and more. He nodded and then reached out to receive the second glass of the delicious wine when it arrived. It wasn't until the server stepped away, that he answered properly. "The first meal of the day is a very important one to Talorians, and it is always shared with one's family. In the absence of our closest loves, we will gather tomorrow morning to break our fast together. One of your Mess Halls has been set aside for this purpose, I believe. I will meet you beforehand and escort you inside. Once I declare you as my personal guest for the duration, you will be accepted. At least," he added after a moment, his expression reflecting just a bit of amusement, "On the surface."Kaelpra took a sip of his fresh, fruity wine and felt his spirits buoy just slightly. "We'll start there." He glanced over at Primary L'Sho, who was glaring at him with some intensity. His back stiffened then, and the anxiety returned.

[Charlie Fox - Corridor, Deck 10 -> Guest Quarters]"They're not all that bad, surely?" Charlie asked with a grin, her tone slightly disbelieving. She'd heard so many stories, and indeed seen some reports from diplomatic functions such as these, and more than once or twice, proceedings had climaxed entirely differently. "Come on, if they weren't psychopathic murderers they'd be prime candidates for some alien no-pants dancing!" She thought maybe Josh might not appreciate that sentiment, yet it didn't stop her from laughing. Perhaps sharing some fancy booze would make up for it. A short turbolift ride later, they'd arrived on Deck 8 and the corridor of guest accommodations. Charlie had been assigned the same rooms every time she'd been onboard the Mac, so she'd settled in immediately. Naturally that meant that her quarters looked as though a tornado had cut a path through it. There were clothes everywhere, PADDs on almost all available surface, plates and glasses as yet to be returned to the replicator. In short, it was quite the mess. She ignored it and strode directly to a discarded backpack in the corner of the room. "Leanna Mazal sent me a bottle of something unusual and fancy as I was boarding. As a thank you for the last Blue Beta review, I think. Knowing her, it'll be exceptionally strong - Let's drink it." Almost all of her arm disappeared into the pack as she groped around, looking for the treasure, her eyes narrowed slightly. "Get us some glasses?" She asked Josh, before locating the prize and straightening up. The liquid inside the clear bottle was a deep red. When disturbed, tendrils of orange spread upward, like flames. It was probably a shame to drink it, but she supposed how pretty something looked should never stop someone from sampling the goods.
